"Are you in the mood for fish of the uncomplicated and Asian-inspired variety? Then head to the trendy and lively Funky Fisch by The Duc Ngo. The centrepiece is the large fish counter, where you choose the fish you want to eat, which is then prepared in the open kitchen. A wide range of Asian food, from Chinese to Vietnamese, is served, with influences from all over the world." - Michelin Inspector

We visited Funky Fisch yesterday evening and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The service was efficient and genuinely welcoming — despite arriving nearly 20 minutes late, we were greeted with warmth and made to feel at ease right away. The menu is concise, featuring a thoughtfully curated selection of dishes that makes choosing both straightforward and satisfying. The wine list is extensive, with an impressive array of non-alcoholic options as well. The food itself was outstanding — fresh, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. It’s the kind of place where, as you settle the bill, you’re already imagining your next visit and wondering about the dishes you didn’t try this time. Highly recommended!

It was an amazing experience! The service in this restaurant is the best from what I saw in Germany so far. They proposed me to have an extra meal for free because I didn’t enjoy a soup (not because it was bad, but because it wasn’t for my taste). I said that I’ll take 2 oysters instead, and the waiter said he will bring 3 :) when he came back, he brought 4 oysters for me for free… I was amazed. Also the waiters answered all our questions, were very nice and caring. It was such an experience. 💛

Great fish restaurant, food was delicious, maybe best popcorn shrimp ever. Was for a birthday dinner, so ready to splurge a bit. End to end everything was really good, the only area for improvement would be the daily fish board. As only English speaker, this as you pick fish special was bit challenging to fully understand, even though the waiters were trying to explain, was just a bit difficult to translate it all via discussion. Which put a bit of a damper on the meal. Would still go back, and maybe second time that we know the score it would be better

Like the name you get all sorts of funky fish here - from tuna, hamachi, octopus, scallops and oysters. Everything cooked to perfection - grilled and served with just a little salt and tangy, funky sauces. If you fancy anything not on the menu, just ask. We wanted one raw oyster and one tempura oyster each - just fantastic!

The food was absolutely delicious. There was one English speaking waiter who made great recommendations. The food is eclectic but everything makes sense together. We ordered a little too much but we were stuffed and happy. The coffee and dessert were so delicious! I can highly recommend this restaurant and everything we ordered (see pic captions) was amazing! This places is great for special celebrations as it is a little more pricey than what is normal in Berlin. We went to celebrate our friend’s birthday.

Paid 45 euros for two portions of 'unfinished' poke bowls that I took to go. It's without rice and raw. Tastes spicy but nothing special. Had also 100ml of Riesling. The waiters, while very polite and friendly, told me they usually serve extra bread and olives but the bread is 'baking', so I didn't get any. The toilet smelled very funky, indeed, and the raw fish on display looked stale. The restaurant might want to consider joining food rescue programmes. Not sure why Berlin can't get fish right.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had. We picked a variety of fish from the seafood bar and each were cooked to perfection. The flavors of the fish were superb and the sauces on the side were excellent. We also had a crudo, oysters, and a few side dishes. Can’t wait to come again!

This is the best place I have ever been to in Berlin! The stuff is very hardworking and professional as well as nice and super sweet!! I could not recommend this place more! I got a chance to speak to the interior designer of the place who is also one of the nicest people I’ve met. I am very impressed by the interior and overall concept of the place. Very thankful for the opportunity to visit this amazing place. The restaurant is amazing! Please go there!!!!

Yelp
Our concierge recommended this restaurant as a seafood/asian fusion restaurant & it did not disappoint. We had an 8:30 reservation; unfortunately a table was not ready so we did end up waiting a little while for one to open up. The hostess was really incredible & made sure we had some drinks while we waited and greeted all her regulars so warmly. Once the table was ready, we opted for "tapas style" and the food was really delicious. Raw oysters were on point and the sea bream ceviche and chef specialties were all wonderful. We also ended the night with the passion fruit crème brûlée & it was one of the best I've had. Nice patio seating outside with some indoor seating as well. Definitely recommend making a reservation as this place was quite busy!

Yelp
Oh no here we go again. Someone had a bad experience and they're writing another scathing yelp review to try and bomb another restaurants reputation. Before you go so quick as to dismiss sub 3 star reviews as rants, I'll preface this by saying the FISH was fresh. Taste was good. So thank you Funky Fisch for bringing what seems to be an exotic species to land locked Berlin. Came here with my significant other. Having tried all of Mr Ngo's spots, we were excited at the prospect of another solid meal. We started the night with oysters from some coast of France. Oysters fresh, not the best that I've tasted but they were fresh which is what matters. We then split a small mixed poke with salmon and white fish. Hamachi seems to be somewhat of a rarity in Berlin and both FF and Ryotei have it. Solid props to the food purveyor and the Ngo restaurant dynasty for bringing it to Berlin. Poke was also good. Here's when the night went sour. We ordered the sea bass some Pommes and fish tacos. We sat playing with our leftover poke rice for 35 minutes which felt like a goddamn eternity. I won't go into specifics nor do I want to whine, but a single apology would've made a world of a difference. It's almost as if we were to blame for the delay in the food when half the time the cooks in the kitchen were walking around with their hands behind their back. Sea bass good. Was fresh and grilled perfectly. Fish tacos meh Pommes soggy and cold. I think what irked me the most was the manager who at the end knew that they had ruined our evening but instead of addressing the problem head on, decided to be a dismissive to the idea that an error was made by offering unnecessary services as to wonder if we needed a cab or a receipt. Quality of food is definitely important, but when service is bad, food no longer becomes enjoyable. TLDR: good fresh seafood, bad service. Not worth it.

Yelp
Nothing special at all. Quality is average. Will not go back. Considering the price, a one star rating would also be justified.

Yelp
We decided to go spontaneously for a glass wine around 5pm today. A few people were sitting inside the restaurant eating food, but the manager told us only drinks - food will only be served again at 6pm. The only spots they could offer us where directly at the bar, which was fine for us. We ordered drinks and my husband had his drink sitting on one of the menu cards. The manager proceeded to just grab his glass without even asking or excusing herself, to take the menu from underneath. No explanation, no "excuse me" - we are still not sure what her issue was but we suspect she didn't want a stain on her laminated menu cards. In the meantime (10 minutes had passed) 3 of the staff members including the bar person had gotten in the kitchen to get their staff lunches and all set with us at the bar. The bar is pretty small, 5 seats in total, so it got crowded and obviously it started to smell of (delicious) food. Other staff members were busy setting up the restaurant for the night and there was a lot of back and forth and shouting (especially the manager who liked to mention that they had a full house tonight). It seems like the place was officially only opening at 6pm (even though we still are wondering who the other guests were and why they had food :). If the manager would have told us, we would have left again no problem. However putting us at the bar, where all her staff was eating back to back with us and her rude behaviour towards us made us feel extremely unease and we are definitely not interested in going back. Even if the food looked great, service always plays a big role in the whole dining experience. Schade!
