The 16 Best Restaurants In Palermo - Palermo - The Infatuation

"Italians don’t really eat pizza for lunch, which means non-touristic pizzerias tend to be open only for dinner. Fúnnaco Pizzalab follows suit. Here, you’ll find all kinds of pies, from 48-hour slow-fermented dough to contemporary Neapolitan, gluten-free options, and perciasacchi, a local Sicilian wheat variety. Your choices are endless with traditional toppings, more innovative add-ons, and a “crunch” section of high-hydration crispy focacce garnished after coming out of the blazing oven. It’s big, with roughly 100 seats inside and outdoor tables on the quiet side alley in the summertime. They’re always packed, so reserve a table and enjoy a casual night out in the heart of the city center, just behind the Piazza di San Domenico and the Vucciria Market." - linda sarris

I first saw this amazing pizza place on TikTok and had been dying to try it. On our first evening we couldn’t get in without a reservation because it was fully booked, but we booked for the next night — and it was 100% worth the wait. The pizza was insanely good, honestly one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. We ordered pizza with ham and burrata, and it was absolutely perfect. The cocktails were very generous on alcohol — I had a Limoncello Spritz — and we also tried some desserts, which were delicious. We loved everything: the atmosphere, the service, and how quickly the pizza was served. We left extremely happy. Highly recommend this place — it’s fantastic, but definitely make sure to book in advance!

This place was awesome! All the pizzas we tried were absolutely delicious — the wine and spritzes were fantastic too. Everything was outstanding. The atmosphere was lively and full of great energy. Definitely a spot worth visiting!

Food and service were superb! Loved everything here. Especially the thicker pizza's and the parfait! The waiters were all so very kind and alert, they would give you what you needed ahead of asking for it. Definitely recommend this place.

Google
Real italian pizza experience. To start off, the place is amazing. It is located in an alley with great lighting, creating a classic romantic Italian atmosphere. We got seated, and the menus were already there. The menu is a bit overwhelming with a lot of options, but they try to distinguish them via a traditional and experimental approach (it is a pizza lab after all). They have a gimmick where they offer different pizza dough, but in my opinion, it is still a bit of a gimmick. I am lactose intolerant, but they had a great alternative by replacing the monzerrale dir extra tomato sauce. Great. The pizza was a big enough fill and looked like the most stereotypical pizza: thick crust and well-filled. The ingredients were nice, but the crust was a bit chewy, so if you're into that, by all means, but not for me. The wine was great, and the glasses had generous amounts as long as you don’t look at the prices. In my opinion, if you have an extra buck in your pocket and want a great, rich pizza experience in Palermo, go experiment at FunnaCo Pizza Lab.

I would have given more stars if that were possible. We went there around 9.30 pm without a reservation and had to wait for about 30 minutes. Totally worth the wait. We shared a caprese, four different pizzas and three desserts among four of us. All of them were amazing. You can also choose from different dough options including gluten free dough. The Neapolitan dough was chewy and soft, and marinara sauce hit a perfect balance between the acidity and sweetness. The wait staff spoke English and friendly. Although the place was full, we didn’t have to wait long to get our food. The ambiance is good, too. They have outdoor seating in this narrow, stone-walled backstreet with fairy lights. A must-visit if you fancy high quality pizza.

Google
The mixed salad was quite simple and came without dressing, instead, they brought salt, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil for us to add ourselves. The Diavola pizza was excellent, and the pizza dough overall was really good. However, the iconic Funnaco pizza wasn’t my thing, and I didn’t enjoy it.

Google
Great location, great pizza and great service! We reserved a table on the day (which was a good idea as we saw people being turned away given this was Saturday night). We had a really nice table in the small street by the restaurant. Would definitely recommend. Giovanni our waiter was really good.

Google
Best Pizza place of our Italian travels so far, with a good price for great food. Chiara, our waitress was very nice and spoke perfect english. The pizzas are fully customizable from the crust to the toppings, with gluten free options. Additionally there is outside and inside seating with a great vibe. I recommend everybody come to Fúnnaco PizzaLab.

Yelp
Excellent service and solid pizzas. We opted to sit inside as it was muggy and hot (and the alley al fresco dining didn't seem appealing to us). What makes Funnaco Pizzalab different? They have dough options aside from the classico (1-2euros for these alternatives) include: napoletano, Sicilian ancient grains/whole wheat, and gluten free. We tried napoletano and the whole wheat, but honestly think we would have preferred to stick with classico so that's on us! Other lessons learned: 1. If intrigued by the bruschette trio -- just skip that set of carbs and go to the pizza! Bread was good but you're not missing out on anything here topping wise. 2. Though there are a lot of unique choices for toppings, just go for it! Don't be like me and get daunted / rushed into sticking with the usual margherita (bc its a pass) On your way out as you pay, you will definitely be offered candy... And maybe a limoncello shot ;) 3.5 stars

Yelp
This place was fun. They have interesting pizzas and are very creative. If you don't like pizza, don't go there. The toppings were both the usual and very different. Service was prompt and quick. It was a casual restaurant.
