Where to Find Sufganiyot for Hanukkah in the Twin Cities | Eater Twin Cities

"Formerly Valley Pastries, I found Funner Brothers’ sufganiyot dusted with powdered sugar and stuffed with a variety of fillings — strawberry, apple, raspberry, Bavarian cream, or lemon — and they’ll be available starting around December 6 or 7 this year; the bakery also sells DIY Hanukkah cookie decorating kits online." - Alex Lodner

This place has *SO* much potential!! I really hope that this is still a work in progress and that they're still adding more to their store. As of now, this donut shop is very average and the definition of ordinary. The donuts they offer are traditional, nothing special or unique. The lobby didn't have any seating unfortunately, and it was terribly dark inside. I was hoping that the outside & store sign matched the inside, but I was let down in a way. Same thing with the donuts. I tried the Donut Holes (theyre more like a medium sized donut circle- not a small hole), Cinnamon Twist, and the Blueberry Cake Donut. They were all decent! Slightly overpriced for the quality, but I have no problem paying a little extra to support a smaller business- I'd just like to see them put themselves out there more!! The lady who was working at the front also didn't greet me or seem to want to talk-- which is okay, but another reason why I'm firm on 3 stars instead of 5. Said "How many donuts are you getting. 😐" before I even looked haha. A bit silly. Just an ordinary donut shop. I'd love to see them create more out of this space-- maybe make a social media page to share around too. I'll be watching to come back once they're further developed!

Had the classic glazed, lemon bismarck and white raspberry bismarck. They were very soft but still had enough texture. The lemon had a good tart kick which I wished was in the raspberry as well but all were very good.

The ice cream was really good! It was just way over-priced. My husband and I each ordered 2-scoops of ice cream, totaled to be $15. The scoops were incredibly small, the two “scoops” could have been combined into one. I actually weighed one of the cups when I got home, before I had taken a single bite, it weighed only 5 ounces for 2 scoops. According to their menu, one scoop of ice cream should be 4 ounces. We definitely were shorted.

Google
Service and atmosphere both a 5 star because it would be unfair to give them anything else. It's counter service at a donut shop, opportunities to wow you are pretty limited. I do recommend coming early as they tend to sell out. Good news is worst case scenario you'll arrive during ice cream houses but you might get lucky and be able to get both. I was here for donuts and they still had some. Keylime was the seasonal special and was quite good. On the recommendation of the young lady working the counter I had the lemon Bismarck too (pictured). This was a lot of food, but I managed. The donuts are delicious but very heavy. If you're thinking it's just a larger Krispy Kreme you're incorrect, these are much more robust. The donut itself is very soft and had just the right amount of filling and neither were too sweet. I am glad I took the detour to go and try this place out. It's a small place and I don't recall any seating. Everyone I saw took their orders to go.

OMG These donuts are to die for! Ive tried a LOT of donuts in the Twin Cities. They are gooey and yummy! Not greasy, not too sweet. PERFECT!

Google
Hey visited your shop while visiting the family. Service great. Young lady patient with me as I figured out what I wanted. Picked up from my accent not a Minnesotan. She was very nice. Donuts are huge. Maybe too big as the filing to donut not good. Had to consume a third of a Bismarck to get a bite with jelly. Suggesting fill from the side or make them a little smaller. I want a jelly donut not a donut with a dab of jelly otherwise donuts fresh tasty. Thanks for my donut fix of the day.

Google
Paid $6 to get two scoops of ice cream and gave me the tiniest scoops I've ever seen. Ice cream wasn't even that good, not worth the money. If you want to make it right, refund me, and I'll change my review. Otherwise I'd not recommend this place to anyone.

Google
Love this fam fav - first as a neighborhood doughnut destination, now even better w ice cream added - Bridgeman’s, a Mpls icon! Fun decor and great service - thank you Funner Bros!

Yelp
the price for the amount of ice cream is insane, we got two double scoops and 3 singles and it was 30 dollars for scoops smaller then the size of a ball of cookie dough before it gets put in the oven. They need it to either be more affordable, or give more product for the cost. I was very disappointed considering the price of the doughnuts have always been incredibly affordable. I know this is their first time doing ice cream so I hope they are open to feedback

Yelp
Very good that was the best. I think it was my first time an ice cream doughnut. And it was real, and it was so easy to make.

Yelp
We have tried to go to this place several times over the years for donuts, but they have always been closed. The first two times were our fault - the first time we went at about 11:30am only to find out it closes at 11:00am. The second time (months later) we went on a Monday only to discover they are closed on Mondays. The third time they should have been open, but they were closed for some special event. Today my husband finally got there when it was open. It was about 10:00 and they were already picked over and didn't have much available. He picked up several donuts to try because we have heard great things about them. He brought them home so I can't comment on service or ambiance. At first glance they looked great and they were huge. We dove in. I tried the bismarck with custard inside and chocolate on top. It was hard to find the custard and when I did find it there was not much of it at all. All of the donuts we had were very skimpy on the fillings. The chocolate ganache on top was pretty good. There wasn't a ton of it, but there was enough I guess. The donut itself was not very good. It was thick and heavy and tasted mostly of oil. It also tasted like the oil it was fried in was really old and a bit rancid. Now, about half an hour after eating the donut I am not feeling great. My mouth feels and tastes like it is coated in bad oil, and my stomach feels like I swallowed a ball of Crisco. My husband had the raspberry bismarck and agreed with my opinions, adding that the "raspberry" filling was just slimy goo that didn't even taste like raspberry.

Yelp
I am so happy this little donut shop opened in Golden Valley! I am an East Coast kid and Dunkin Donuts here in Minnesota is NOT the same as it is at home, and the donuts aren't nearly as good as these. These donuts are really big, fresh every day, fried to perfection. I love their chocolate frosting. It's so rich and thick. I wish they put more sprinkles on the sprinkle donuts. That's my only complaint. Staff is always friendly and helpful (and patient if you're having trouble choosing). Prices are reasonable -- $2.50 per donut or $14 for a half dozen. If you want a great selection or the widest selection, you need to get there as early as you can. Since they close at 11, getting there any time after 10, you may find a limited selection. It's definitely a "what they have is what they have" situation each day, so if you really need something specific, you can place an order ahead to guarantee you get what you wanted. Go here, support them. Great little donut shop. (for locals, it's where Valley Pastries used to be off Medicine Lake).

Yelp
The doughnuts are tasty and love getting them this fresh. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Small storefront, but easy to see what is available. There's an order ahead option that will save you time. Would go again.

Yelp
Very nice staff and very fresh and yummy donuts. This is on my way to work and decided to finally give them a try. It's a small shop but it feels warm inside and smells delicious . Definitely a must check out

Yelp
Very kind staff - most are teens but they have a great process for order taking! Prices are very reasonable! The donuts are amazing! So soft and sweet. I love stopping in on weekend mornings! Glad they changed the name/brand, hope it's kept them busier!

Yelp
Such a great place!! They get busy, but they do offer online orders. Which is the way to go! Super easy and they are always ready on time! They have a great variety of donuts. We've had them all! Definitely recommend the donut holes. They are massive! They also offer a cute gesture of decorating a donut for the little ones!
google avatar

Stacy A.

Yelp
This place is really cute! I don't even love donuts but my kids love to come here on a weekend and design their own donut holes; they look forward to this family outing! I personally wish there was a little more variety, but as I mentioned, I'm not a donut person so maybe I'm in the minority.

Yelp
Excellent donuts! First time here and definitely will be back. We loved them all. The toasted coconut with incredible on top of the long john, the glazed was super delicious - my son's favorite. Sprinkle is always a hit. And the old fashioned was very tasty - it had a surprise anise flavor which made it unique.

Yelp
These are the most chunky, thick, and chewy donuts ever! They are delicious!! I got there at 10am, so the selection wasn't great, but I like a good glazed and fried cinnamon roll with maple- so I was content. It was the best cinnamon roll donut I've ever had! I'd absolutely recommend this place even if it's not much to look at from the outside:) they were also reasonably priced, for how huge each donut was I felt like $2/donut was very reasonable. There is plenty of parking and this is easy to get to right off 169, with easy access to hop back on the freeway

Yelp
They may have changed their name and have a bigger space, but the service and the delicious donuts remain the same. This is a great little place in the strip mall in Golden Valley. Open in the mornings and purveyor of delicious fresh donuts and cookies. Family friendly with activities where kids can decorate their own donut holes. We are there at least a few times a month. The kids love it and they have a decent variety of donuts. But beware, if you get there late, the selections can be pretty limited. I am partial to their chocolate covered old fashioned while the kids love the sprinkle covered ones. Their glazed are also a family favorite. Any you choose, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I ordered online and did pick up for 2 dozen donuts. It was easy and the worker was nice enough to separate the donuts for me as I needed it in two boxes. The donuts were delicious and I brought them for my last day of work! They easily were gone as they make them fresh and delicious! Would come back again!

Yelp
Some of the best donuts I've ever had. Fantastic glazed. I'll be back for sure! Best donuts in Twin cities!?

They were truly huge! I didn't visit the location, but the carry out donuts were beautiful and looked delicious!

Yelp
Love their donuts! New owners and new name but same flavor and Great donuts. Fun for the kiddos, they have a station that if kids are with you can get a free giant donut whole with toppings. I highly recommend their giant donut holes. They are simply glazed and are so soft and fluffy, I can eat half a dozen in my own for sure! We get 2 dozen each time and my family inhales these! They always have fun flavors as well, can't go wrong with any of their featured flavors, I've never had one I didn't like.

Yelp
The BEST donut holes I have ever had! So delicious, fluffy and just the right amount of sweetness! The service at Funner is really fast and the employees are so nice and patient. I recommend this place highly!

Yelp
Great s plus they make rosettes at the holidays (call first for availability). Delicious big donut holes too.
google avatar

Nichole S.

Yelp
Donut holes. They are light, flaky and the same size as a freakin' baseball. I order online the night before for a super convenient pick up. Any time you have to do anything before the sun is up- stop by and grab a box for the crowd! Their other donuts are great too - plus their Golden Valley location is right off 169! Great staff too
google avatar

Tessa L.

Yelp
We decided we wanted to try some local donuts and we're not sad about finding Funner Bros. Their donut holes are no joke! They're huge! The twist was perfectly doughy and sweet. The Bavarian Bismarck was epic. highly recommend checking this place out! So freakin good!

Ryan A.

Yelp
These are the best donuts, hands down! Staff are helpful, and it is such a cute little shop.

Yelp
Best spot for donuts by far. The shop is clean and organized while the employees are always friendly and quick. The donut holes are AMAZING!! To be honest I personally have not tried anything else because I'm hooked on the holes. Family loves the Boston Cream and anything with sprinkles. This is a must try!

Cara H.

Yelp
Great Donut Holes and Bismarcks! The service was also very nice and efficient! I have never had a bad experience other than that they have sold out, because I didn't get there earlier enough.

Brett D.

Yelp
Funner Brothers truly lives up to its name! The rebrand has transformed this donut spot into the most fun experience around. From the delightful "kids cart" to the vibrant and lively atmosphere inside, every visit is a joyous adventure. The donuts themselves are a highlight--imaginative toppings, and the seasonal creations make you wish they were available year-round. If you're seeking a donut experience that's not only delicious but also a blast, Funner Brothers is the place to be! The workers, starting with the owners, couldn't be more friendly and welcoming. A true 5 star experience.

Yelp
Their donut holes are huge! Melt in your mouth delicious too! All of their raised and filled donuts are some of the most fluffy, moist and flavorful I've had. I'm not a fan of their cake donuts though. They were a little dry, but honestly who cares when their other donuts are so good! The shop is clean and staff is friendly. Easy parking too. Definitely worth a drive if you're not close to Golden Valley. I hear their cookies are very good too - and they look good - but haven't tried them yet. They're definitely next on the list.

Claudia C.

Yelp
The glazed donut holes are totally addicting!! The best ever! I drive clear across the cities to get them.
