In Florence, a Steak Lover's Paradise, Fish is Flourishing | Bon Appétit

"Once among the city’s upscale, white-linen seafood establishments, this long-respected restaurant served as an early, revered precursor to the more accessible fish-focused dining options that have since proliferated in Florence." - ByJackie Cooperman

The service and food were absolutely perfect. We chose the degustation menu for two, and it was a real jackpot — every course was beautifully presented, perfectly balanced, and based on outstandingly fresh seafood. The staff were professional, attentive, and made the whole evening feel effortless and relaxed. You can truly feel the care and passion behind what they do. If you’re looking for top-level seafood in Florence, this place is a must. We’ll definitely be back.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Fuor D'Acqua on our first night in Florence! After an evening stroll, we came upon this restaurant late in the evening and sat down after 9pm. For the next 4 hours, my wife and I had one of the most memorable meals in our 42 years together! We selected the fixed price menu for two and a nice bottle of chardonnay. My wife explained her crustacean allergy, which the restaurant completely understood - oftentimes, the server and even the chef do not understand. Based on her allergy, the chef will avoid those items for her by creating new, off the menu selections while I would receive the typical tasting menu. We proceeded to taste more than eight separate and delicious selections of seafood - I had mine and tasted the special courses prepared for my wife as necessary to avoid her allergy. The pace often slowed to a crawl as we lingered, so allow for digestion. Our server was wonderful and brought us an additional course of frothy lemon sorbetto to buy some time. At one point, he commented, "Take your time, i will be here until 2AM." We eventually made it through and enjoyed our dessert with some coffee. We left after 1:30AM for a 15 min stroll to our accommodations, completely satisfied, knowing we will be talking about this meal for years to come! Thank you!

It wasn't the first time we went to Fuor d'Acqua, and it won't be the last! We have tried and found excellent restaurants in our life and in our travels, but this is one of the BEST fish restaurant in the WORLD! Just the (long) list of both raw and hot appetizers will confirm this statement which at first glance may seem excessive. Prices obviously proportional to the high quality of what is served. The staff is absolutely up to par with professionalism and rare kindness. Thank you, and see you soon again!

Waw. We were speechless by the incredible food experience we had at Fuor d’aqua. An “experience” is really what you’re in for when entering the doors. No need to look at the menu, just let yourself be guided through many many beautiful creations with the “catches of the day” by the lovely maitre. Order a good bottle of wine (we loved the Alto Adigo Sanct Valentino Chardonnay), sit back and enjoy the ride. We hope to be back soon. Perhaps we should just plan a quick roundtrip to florence, just to visit Fuor d’aqua again.

We went for dinner here 4 days ago based on a few recommendations for the seafood dishes Fuor D'Acqua serve. We have dined in many restaurants but I must say that this is the very first time that our experience was so bad that we left without eating anything. Our table was booked for 2030 and we had promptly ordered our starters, and main course. Other customers came after us and were served their meals before us; we were still waiting. We were given a basket of bread, and nothing else. We decided to leave after waiting an hour. The manager, came out of the restaurant into the street to apologise for the terrible service we experienced and asked us to come back inside. Unfortunately, we decided by that point, that we were not going to stay any longer. The manager acknowledged that the waiter who was serving us did not do his job correctly. What puzzled us is that the waiter serving us was very helpful towards the local customers. It was evident that we were not local/Italian customers, thus we didn't matter, or not a priority at all. This was a truly bad experience and one we do not wish upon anyone. One star for food because we didn't get to eat anything and one star for service clearly. The atmosphere is probably better for others but it wasn't for us...

Nice place. As a person who eats seafood all over the world i wouldnt say it stood out as amazing but it was ok. Quite expensive night. The stater was disappointing as the prawns definitely wasnt king prawns as described. So basically paid £20 for 3 little prawns and some mayo. The main course was better value. For 1 bottle of wine, 2 statters, 2 mains. No desert or sides. The total was £200. You did het free bread when you sat down. Maybe that's normal for Florence. The sort of place you visit for an occasion. The staff were very helpful though throughout the evening so cant fault them one bit

Google
The food was amazing n "Perfecto" - fresh seafood. From the 1st dish till the last. The dishes paired well with the wine recommended - Prosecco, white wine (2 bottles) n dessert wine. The dinner lasted from 8pm till 11.10pm.

The restaurant is very spacious and you are well seated and basically well served. My problem was with the menu and the way servers are directing you off the menu so at the end you don’t know how much you pay and for what food exactly. I qualify this restaurant as very expensive compared to the food quality.

Yelp
AMAZING! Tried many different seafood dishes as we let the manager create the selection for each course. Beautiful restaurant with great ambiance. A must try when in Florence.

Yelp
Fuor d' Acqua is a fish restaurant in Florence located on the South side of the river Arno. It's not an easy restaurant to get to but it's worth the effort. The pasta is home made and delicious; the crudo's of fresh sashimi are delicious and the whole fish also does not disappoint. The only complaint we have is the lack of a basic dress code. This is an elegant fine dining restaurant and a proper long sleeve dress shirt and pants should be mandatory for men. We had the misfortune of having three diners covered in body art and tattoos wearing short sleeves and shorts with numerous body piercings seated next to us. It was extremely unpleasant to look at these individuals who did not have the common courtesy to dress appropriately for the venue. There are some occasions when a nose ring should be removed and proper clothing worn and this was one of them. They should have been denied entry based on the clothing they wore.

Yelp
This used to be my go-to restaurant in Florence on every trip because the seafood was amazingly fresh. I first heard about it from AMEX Platinum's Departures magazine in 2004 so every trip to Florence, was a trip to Fuor D'Acqua. When I was booking this restaurant through our hotel concierge, I could tell that they were quite reluctant because they offered more alternate restaurants. But based on our past visits, I decided to go ahead with the booking. This place used to be a place where I would see the rich of Florence dine - many times, local politicians as well. In our last visits, there were increasing American and British diners and they had expanded into a side room where we were sat mostly. On our recent visit, the side room was closed. The main room's clientele was now mostly Italian again. We were the only two tables of non-Italians. On to the food, one of my favorite places for lobster spaghetti is this restaurant, plus the crudo and grill scampi. The draw was that they would get fresh seafood from the coast daily arriving usually as the restaurant was opening at 8pm. On this day, they did not have any lobster so we were super bummed. When our scampi and white fish crudo came out, my heart sank because the portions were puny and the scampi looked a little sad. Once I started eating them, my heart sank further. These were clearly not fresh as just caught that day. The rest of the meal went downhill as the branzino was overcooked so a little dry. I guess that sometimes, restaurants go beyond their prime and no matter how much you want it to be the same, it just doesn't. Will not be returning.

Yelp
Fuor d'acqua is one of those places where you go for special occasions (unless you are extremely rich), because it's a very classy place and tends to be rather expensive. But every euro spent here is extremely well spent, the quality of service and food is at its highest, dishes are refined and a full course meal won't leave you hungry. Everything is really well cared for, one of Florence top's restaurants.

Yelp
If you like fish and seafood prepared Florentine-style, then you MUST visit this Oh My Yummy God ("OMYG") restaurant. If you want something other than fish or seafood, then do not visit. The fish arrives every day fresh from the Viareggio market at the Tuscan seaside. The menu changes daily based on what is received from the market, only features fish and seafood and is perfectly prepared and served in a friendly environment that makes you feel at home. ...

Yelp
The food was just OK. We were expecting great fresh seafood but I think they try to overthink it... We followed recommendations from friends who spent time in Rome and our hotel, so we had high expectations. The ambiance quiet / more formal / low energy.
