G&R Italian Deli - Review - Morris Park - New York - The Infatuation

"Especially on weekends, every square inch of this narrow Morris Park deli is occupied, with a line of people wedged against shelves of jarred tomatoes and dried pastas, and snaking out the door. G&R has been around since 1978, but their claim-to-fame—a viral Italian meatball cone—is much newer. Once you get past the meatball though, you’ll find a hollowed out hero with not much going for it. So stick to what they've been doing best for decades: straight-up Italian sandwiches. Behind the counter, sandwich-makers construct things like The Famous Bronx Godfather, layered with every meat imaginable and sun-dried peppers with the texture of fruit leather. Other staff swing big hunks of deli meat by the strings and take orders for four pints of sausage and peppers please. Their shirts say “You Can’t Spell Great Without G&R," which is accurate in every way. Food Rundown photo credit: Willa Moore Italian Meatball Cone You don’t need to get this, but we don’t want to spoil your fun if you feel the urge to see it for yourself. Since this place is takeout only, it’s served in a 7/11 Slurpee-esque cup for transport, which works surprisingly well. The meatball is slightly dense, but the stretchy mozzarella and tomato sauce do wonders. photo credit: Willa Moore The Famous Bronx Godfather The Godfather has an impressive variety of meats on it—prosciutto, mortadella, sweet soppressata, capiccolo—but the real star here might be the sun-dried peppers. They’re dark and leathery and salty-sweet, and will probably make you consider getting back on line just to buy some for home. There’s also mozzarella, balsamic glaze, and maybe just a touch too many mixed greens. What can we say? We really love meat and cheese." - Willa Moore

Long line put so worth it. Ordered the meatball sandwich which was aaaamazing! The sandwich is so big and juicy, they place it in a cup. They have a small table and 2 chairs at the entrance but other than that, no place to sit and eat. We ate in our car. Street parking available with pay. The meter takes coins and cards. Police active in the area so you can't just park without pay. Highly recommend if in the area. 4 sandwiches + a side of pulled pork + a side of mozzarella cheese + 4 drinks=$60 dollars. Not bad considering we had food left over

Google
Immediately when you get there you could see the line oozing out the door waiting for the good food they make. Whether your there as a regular or one timer or there for the usual or the famous Italian Ice-cream Cone you will not be disappointed.

Google
Great Italian Deli. I pass by them daily, it is authentic Italian food & ingredients. Good portion. My daughter & I had come during a Saturday lunch. I limit myself during the week to once per week. The food is that good. Be patient when you arrive. Considering how much foot traffic they receive, they will get you taken care of. Appreciate the G&R Deli team💪🏽🙏🏽

Google
With a line out the door, after a 20 min wait I was able to order. That’s how you know it’s fresh and good. I got the viral meatball ice cream cone and it was good. I don’t think I would get it again but the hero’s and sandwich looked phenomenal and next on my list to try.

Google
The best old school Italian deli with top notch sandwiches in the area HANDS DOWN. You can't go wrong with the Bronx Godfather (or any other Joe Rogan sandwich for that matter). The meatballs are flavorful and juicy, chicken cutlets are tender and not dried out. The boys behind the counter load your hero UP old school style.

Google
G & R Deli: A Hidden Gem of Sandwich Perfection G & R Deli isn’t just a place to grab a bite—it’s a destination for sandwich lovers who want something truly unforgettable. I tried the Hot Pastrami with Swiss Cheese, the Italian Sandwich, and the Meatball Sandwich, and let me tell you—each one was an absolute masterpiece. The taste, texture, and smell of every bite were next-level. You can taste the care they put into every sandwich, from the perfectly seasoned meats to the super-fresh ingredients. The Hot Pastrami with Swiss Cheese melted in my mouth, the Italian Sandwich was packed with bold flavors, and the Meatball Sandwich was comfort food at its finest—juicy, rich, and perfectly sauced. Honestly, the freshness and quality of the ingredients are like nowhere else. G & R Deli truly stands out as a place where everything is unique, delicious, and made with love. If you’re a sandwich enthusiast, this spot is a must-visit. 🥪🔥

Google
The meatball was good however that’s about it. Ordered the chicken g&r and that was the chicken. It was so gross, chewy and not fresh. Definitely not worth the drive.

Google
Really good. Caroline is a sweetheart, and the guys who work there are also friendly. Classic Bronx Italian heroes.

Yelp
I wish I lived here just to have time to eat EVERYTHING!!!! It's all fresh and delicious AND the meatballs are just like grandma's ...yes I said it! Sooo good. We had the 'meatball cone' and even the cheese was ridic sprinkles from the heavens. Great selections made and also to buy. Ambiance is welcoming with the nicest owners and everyone that worked there! Sup' Frank!!! As a prior east coast girl living in SoCal I miss this and it's sooo needed!!!! When I come again I need to have the penne vodka and chicken parm!

Yelp
G&R is a decent sandwich shop I've honestly had better in various places in the Bronx. It was good nothing truly spectacular. Seems more filled with the "TikTok famous" gimmicks. The service is that of any Italian deli lol don't expect a warm happy greeting it's all business. The one bad part is because of their social media popularity you're going to wait 45 minutes if you're lucky for a sandwich, and it's small shop so you might be waiting out in the cold. It was a good sandwich not the best I've ever had. The day I went I had a chicken cutlet, hot soppressata, fresh mozzarella, balsamic glaze.

Yelp
I walked into the store and I noticed they got an air of superiority now that they have the clientele they're very proud and very arrogant. The only place that makes you buy bread if you order meatballs

Yelp
Came here for the viral meatball sub and we were completely satisfied and satiated by this enormous feat. We had a group of four and ventured here on Saturday afternoon for lunch. It was a quick uber from where we were coming from and upon arrival, we were surprised by the line going out the door. We discovered later that it moves pretty fast and that this might be a new thing since the regulars were not used to it. Between the four of us we got 2 meatball subs and two regular ones; the Bronx godfather and Romeo & Juliette. The sandwiches were loaded from the beginning to end with meat and surrounded by a deliciously fresh roll. I particularly loved how the meatball sub is wrapped in foil and placed in a cup preemptively because it can get saucy, ask for a fork to help you dig around before picking it up. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Got the chicken parm sandwich from here, it was solid. The staff here is noticably experienced as they kept a lunch crowd moving. Also I saw a food influencer (Jack's dining room) filming outside. These guys are known for the meatball cone, I haven't tried it yet, or anything else. But the chicken parm is fire, sauce is key to me, and it's very flavorful with just the right amount of sweetness.

Yelp
I'm soo disappointed with this spot, i previously posted a review about 4 months ago about how I love the this place, but I guess all good things must come to end. I really did love their sandwich's, as I used to go 3/4 times a week sometimes twice in a day. So on Monday I went around 4:35 pm closing time and i ordered a chicken G&R on a seed hero. I was soo hungry that day when I got the sandwich I immediately opened it when I got in my car to have some, because I never wait to get home to eat it. As I opened the sandwich there was something black the size of a rice grain in the wrapper as I opened it, i immediately went back inside to asked the guys working what it was, i started with the guy that made the sandwich, he seem to not to now, then i preceded to ask the ask the heavy set Italian guy wearing the fitted cap because I kinda figure he was running things, at first he didn't look to come over to see what I was showing him/ being defensive, and before he came over, another worker came over, looked said nothing and went back to prepping what he was doing. The Italian guy finally came over and saw what I was trying to show him, he tried to tell me, it's a seed from the multi grain bread as he held it in his hand asking the guy who made/ served me where he got the bread, lol smh, dude I've been coming here since February/March buying multiple sandwiches and never seen multiple grain bread on the shelf, it's alway seeded hero, plain hero or Italian bread. And what seed looks just like rats dropping. Then he just took it and threw it on the floor. The black rice grain looking thing was mice/ rat droppings, I've lived and seen enough rat shit to see and recognize what was in my food. So I just asked for money back and left, to the Italian guy working there, you handle things shitty. I was so hurt that day, I did not even take a picture, and I even thought about contacting them to see if they have a rodent problem because I love there sandwiches soo much. My days there are done and if you plan on going, check your food.

Yelp
I had to try these sandwiches! They were amazing! It's a small shop, but everyone is very friendly and efficient. There's so much to try it's hard to choose! We got two sandwiches, one with a chicken cutlet literally roasted red peppers and the other was rare roast beef with the fixings. Sandwiches are amazing! Love the seeded bread. Overall, worth the trip

Yelp
The people who work here are wonderful, welcoming and so quick to try to bring the lines down. Hands down one of the best customer service! As far as the sandwiches, they're also really good and they are huge! The only reason this wasn't 5 stars was because my bread was a little more dry than I like. We tried the American combo and this one was my absolute favorite, the roast beef was super fresh. Then my bf ordered the Italian and this one was also good but something about it wasn't my favorite, maybe it's because I've never been a fan of certain cuts of meat and they are VERY generous with their meats. I mean, it's like an extra packed sandwich that you can barely bite bc it's so big (no complaints there!) all in all, I can't wait to come back and try more stuff! The place is tiny and can get packed but their workers really try their best and I loved that!

Yelp
Phenomenal food. Excellent service. Clean professional store. Italian's dream shop with everything from A-Z. Staff so cordial. We go every time I visit my brother in law Dr Cefola! He loves your place too.

Yelp
The best sandwich Deli in the Bronx The variations and the consistency great taste is not equaled by others

Ralphie F.

Yelp
Have visited the place twice and first time I asked for the G&R chicken Cutlet I got home (5 min ride) and it was a cold sandwich. Second time I visited and order the same sandwich and asked for it to be hot once again when I got home, it was warm at best. I've had similar sandwiches and other Chinese deli that were much better.

Yelp
Overrated in my opinion. Really hyped up on social media, which for me inversely correlates with how much I can take an establishment seriously. As soon as a restaurant has a TikTok account, it's sort of game over for me. The sandwich was fine but sort of without love. I find this deli is the sort of place with a lot of ego and pride but not necessarily a lot of love. Call me crazy but I think the orientation of an establishment ultimately is infused into the experience of the food. The people who work there make lots of crude jokes as they work, give off "it's-a-man's-world" vibes, and there are large Trump flags hanging on the side of the restaurant. All around just like a hub of misaligned values in my book.

Yelp
Solid heroes at a good price. 8 inch subs on hood italian bread for $10-12 bucks. They ain't stuffed to the gills but they ain't flimsy either. I got the breaded cutlet w fresh mootz and roasted peppers. It was good. Not great but not bad either. If you want one and you are in the area, go for it. The other sandwich was fresh mootz w prosciutto and fried eggplant. I have never tried a combo like that but it surprisingly delicious. I would def get that again. It's a local neighborhood place you could tell gets packed every day. You can't go wrong coming here and getting a sandwich any day of the week. There's also a rotating assortment of hot foods, which is always an added bonus. G&R In! Take me down to the paradise sandwich!

Yelp
G & R Deli, you rocked it yesterday! I follow G & R Deli on social media and I see them posting some outrageous looking creations. They recently posted a sandwich on freshly made focaccia bread with fresh mutz. I was driving back from upstate NY back to Long Island, lemme swing by for one of these amazing looking sandwiches. I'm not from the Bronx, I don't know the Bronx and their rules. I know Brooklyn and my go to is Lioni Heroes. They have 125+ sandwich choices. What I hate is when someone is on line and the counter person says, can I help you? And they they take 10 minutes to make a choice. Do your damn homework! I have a mission, come in and order Hot Supp with goat cheese and fig jam on fresh focaccia bread. I walk into a small shop, I place my order and I'm told there's no more focaccia bread. Dang, now "I'm" that guy! The counter person was cool, he made me a chicken cutlet with fresh mutz and broccoli rabe on a roll. The deli is small, there are no seats except a small table outside. I grab my sandwich, a Manhattan Special as well as a box of Homemade Ravs and brought it to my car. I had a car picnic on Williamsbridge Rd! I opened the bag and took my first bite. The chicken cutlet was thick and cooked perfectly. Now add the fresh mutz and broccoli rabe? Oh, its a party up in The Bronx! First time here, I'm not in the area too much so I thank you for the amazing lunch!

Yelp
Service here was 10/10. I found the ordering process well organized, friendly and efficient. I got a toasted G&R chicken cutlet on a gyro. My sandwich looked fantastic because it was fresh and loaded with cutlets. However, I found that the cutlets lacked seasoning. I took it to go and I wish I had a couple of salt and pepper packets to add to it. Will I go back again? Absolutely, I think if I have them add lettuce and tomatoes and off course some condiments.

Steve C.

Yelp
I visited G&R Deli for the first time and I must say I will be back as often as I can, I got the Godfather ONLY $17.00 and it was fantastic, I can't wait to try every sandwich they offer. I live out in long island but it will be worth the trip. Thank You.

Yelp
I had this place bookmarked, was in the area for work and craving an eggplant sandwich. There is street parking or you can take a chance and park in the cvs lot next door. The staff are friendly and efficient. The prices are very reasonable and sandwiches generously stuffed. The fresh mozzarella was so creamy and the fried eggplant was crispy and flavorful. I would love to try some others and totally recommend this deli if you live nearby.

Yelp
Food is a 4 - 4 1/2 stars. Service on the other hand...ugh. The worker got pissed when I asked for pesto on my sandwich (it's on the menu). Geez, letting Rogan go to your head much? It's literally on the menu. Take it off if you don't want people to order or. I probably won't go back. Just because of this. So many good places in the Bronx. They need to let their heads deflate a little.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for a good sandwich, prepare to wait on the line but worth it,staff was fast and polite, Enjoy
google avatar

Raymond R.

Yelp
The heroes are great. Had the meatballs Italian Ice cream which was on the money. Super meatballs and fresh mozzarella with the sprinkle cheese on top. Filling and satisfying. Ordered the Godfather and shared it with the family. Fully loaded with different Italian meats, fresh sliced mozzarella greens and balsamic drizzle. Had it cut in fours and truly delicious. Service is fast and courteous. The ambiance is wonderful Just like going back in time when I was kid entering a classic Italian deli. Hidden gem in the Bronx. Definitely recommend a visit.
google avatar

Vijay S.

Yelp
Local neighborhood spot for sandwiches. I got the Felicia sandwich. It seemed weird to combine prosciutto, mozzarella, and fried eggplant though it was delicious. They also have several other items from Italy. Overall, it was a good experience.
google avatar

Earl D.

Yelp
Romeo and Juliet is pretty good. Be prepared to wait a little bit. There will be a line

Yelp
Simply the best. Essential NYC deli, no faking here! Gotta get the meatball it's outrageous and famous! Many try to imitate but don't compare. Joe Rogan even has them cater his shows in NYC - unbelievable! The guy at the counter said Joe Rogan even talked about them on his podcast, Ming!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great products and terrific food , real Italian Deli. Products that are hard to find if you like real Italian food. Brings old world Italy into your home.
google avatar

Lisa T.

Yelp
Old fashioned Bronx Italian deli. I grew up in Morris Park and the fresh mozzarella was all of the communities favorite. Today I live in Dutchess County and make a trip to the Bronx at least twice a month to get the comforts of home and share it with people up here. Now I get orders when I go to get my G & R fix! I will continue to travel down to enjoy this old-fashioned Italian deli.
google avatar

Yelp
I had the Italian ice cream cone and it was worth it. And I met the nice lady who makes them and is featured in the viral videos.

Yelp
THE BEST ITALIAN sandwiches or heroes Outstanding quality and service is at this Deli. Don't miss out on one of the best Italian deli experience

Lucy L.

Yelp
Best sandwiches ever! We got two Italian heroes, 1 eggplant Parmigiano, and I got a jar of mufalleta, barratta cheeses, and a pork bread to go. The bread is fresh and amazingly addictive! Lol

Brendan O.

Yelp
Food is very good. Clean and plenty of help behind the counter. Not a lot of parking. There might be a line outside. It's worth the wait.
google avatar

Rob A.

Yelp
Simply amazing. Family owned and run. Arthur Avenue quality (or better!) with more street parking and shorter lines. The place is the Cheers of Deli's, as everyone seems to know everyone. Great atmosphere! Amazing food. Don't bother dealing with the hassle of Arthur Ave if you just want deli, go here.

Ricky D.

Yelp
G & R Deli is a great place with friendly service and welcoming vibes. The deli is clean and the products are excellent. Though I now live in South Florida I go up to NYC often and G&R Deli is one of my first stops. On this visit I got a Chicken Parm Hero and as usual it was great. Fresh bread, quality chicken and a nice sauce made this perfect. G & R is one of the best Italian Delis not only in The Bronx but in NYC.
google avatar

Leo R.

Yelp
FINALLY!!! So glad I got to finally eat here! Thank you Joe Rogan for the recommendation! Everything was amazing! There was a small line but I only waited about 10 minutes and then 5 minutes from actual order to receiving my sandwheeh! Man if the pics don't show you the size and how packed this baby is then i don't know what to tell you! Come by and get some! As a New Yorker I can say this is above and beyond any other delis sandwiches! It was not greasy/oily, not spicey, not salty,...the flavors were so good together! Next time i come back will try another sandwich! I got the #3 Joe Rogan - The Bronx Godfather! Exactly what i was craving! Thank you guys see ya soon!

Yelp
This place was really good. A friend of mine convinced me to travel from West Harlem to this place, and it was well worth the trip. We got two different hero sandwiches -the 'Felicia' and the 'Italian Combo' -and both were great. The ingredients tasted really fresh, and both sandwiches were really reasonably priced. About $15 per sandwich, and my sandwich was so large that I couldn't finish it. Everyone at the deli was super nice and friendly too. I'd travel back from West Harlem for this place.

Adrian G.

Yelp
I visited G&R deli today 1/14/25 at around 3:30pm after seeing it on TicToc. I ordered a sandwich. After my sandwich was made, the taller guy attending to me that made my sandwich asked the shorter guy in spanish, how much should he charge me. The shorter guy responded in spanish, to charge me $13.,then the taller guy responded that it's too low, that he would charge me $14., now the shorter guy says to charge me what ever he wants. Finally I'm charged $15. for the sandwich. These clowns saw me as a white dude that didn't understand spanish. I made it clear to them that I understood what they were saying and that it's a shame how instead of trying to keep a new customer, their fiasco just chased away a new customer. The sandwich was good but their thieving tactics has to change. Management should be made aware. This is not how to keep customers coming back.

Lynda V.

Yelp
came from Vegas; originally from The Bronx. very disappointed. ordered the chicken cutlet sandwich and the eggplant sandwich. no balsamic dressing. we had to get our own. again very disappointed. it was not worth the trip. Tell your staff to add the dressing!!!!! we drove all the way to sheepshead bay brooklyn for a sandwich and the hour drive was well worth the trip. A five minute drive to G & R was not!

Jennifer R.

Yelp
After seeing the videos on FB, this place is all my husband could talk about so, this past Saturday we decided to make a detour on our way home to N.H. from S. Carolina. There was a line which, we didn't mind as it gave us a chance to talk with other customers and to take a look at the other items they sold. My husband got the chicken parm and i got the eggplant parm. While both sandwiches were delicious, i would have preferred my eggplant parm to be a lot hotter compared to luke warm. We also bought the fresh mozzarella which, was amazing.

Gina B.

Yelp
meatball cone and the Felicia were incredible!!!! cute store with great service -small line outside but went relatively fast. We parked in the cvs with no issue. a few outside seats to eat that were heated and covered

Valerie P.

Yelp
Posting for my dad! "Came to New York to visit my daughter, had to make the trip to have a sangwheech. Had the Chicken G & R and it did not disappoint, EXCELLENT! Shout out to the whole staff for being so nice to take a picture and short video. You guys are the best! Till next time! Thanks again! How ya doing "

Kim N.

Yelp
Found them on TikTok and had the ice cream sandwich. It was excellent just as advertised and more than enough to fill you up.
google avatar

Grier F.

Yelp
Overall rating: 2.5 stars Food: we got the chicken parm with handmade mozz Texture: it was alright a bit soggy but the size for price is good, about the same as other spots in the area Ambiance: part italian market and groceries part deli and food counter Seating & Parking: no seating and there is curbside parking in front, can only fit about a car or two Service: Giovani was nice but the food could be better Music: none Bathrooms: didn't use Final comments: a good spot for deli but about the same as others near by

Lisa M.

Yelp
G&R was so good, I'd happily trek to this Bronx neighborhood again for a well made sandwich This small Italian deli has a big reputation that is well-deserved. They offered me a look at their fresh made fried eggplant and chicken cutlets. Yum. Next time. They'll make whatever you want as long as they have the ingredients. The sandwich they made for me that I toasted at home with their fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers salami and mortadella was heaven on a fresh baked roll.

George S.

Yelp
I saw this Guido making a sandwich, yes it's sandwich not "sangweech", on Tik Toc so I thought I'd stop in and give it a go. The good news is I wasn't far from a toilet because after eating just a small part of the over priced garbage they sell, I spent the next half hour on the on the pot. Where to start? Let's see...the bread they crow about was so stale you could have used it as a stove bolt. They put greens on it that were so wilted and obviously turned that the only place they belonged was in the disposal, not a sandwich. Then there's the green slime they brag about as their home made pesto that looks as appetizing as the stuff in your kids 2:00am diaper and tastes like motor oil. If this is how the old lady cooks at home I hope the owner eats out a lot. Then the cold cuts. They claim it's all imported. If the Dollar Store imports then maybe it is. To sum it up, if they donated this stuff to a nursing home it would be considered elder abuse. The only reason to eat the tripe form this dive is if you're bound up.

Felix M.

Yelp
Old school deli with excellent food. We had the meatball cone and that's a tasty meal that will keep you full for a couple of days!
google avatar

Alex A.

Yelp
Chicken cutlets in the sandwiches are amazing. The produce is fresh and the Calzones are out of this world.

Steve H.

Yelp
get the felicia . best sangweech in da bronx. line moves fast. the pesto is very good

Angela K.

Yelp
Great service and food. Never been in here but it's one of those Bronx delis that you search for. It has the best of everything!! Can't pass it up!
google avatar

Robert M.

Yelp
Great place!! I would highly recommend this place if you are wanting authentic Italian experience. From the ordering to the food everything was very authentic. I ordered the Americano and it was delicious, the hero is definitely big enough and will have you full. Side note however there is only one table to sit and eat it with only three chairs so be warned if you are visiting that you must save your spot if you want it, other than that everyone gets it go. Keep up the great work G&R Deli.
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
I pass G&R regularly since it's on one of my walking routes, but it's not exactly in my neighborhood so I usually patron other Italian delis. That's not taking away from G&R though, because I've always heard good things. The other day I was feeling a little change from the norm, so I decided to head over to G&R to pick up some lunch. G&R offers most everything you would want out of an Italian deli: cold cuts, hot dishes to go, specialty items, as well as offering catering. I was just looking for a sandwich, but decided to get a little creative and get turkey with mayo, mustard, roasted red peppers, Meunster, lettuce, tomato, and onion...on a club roll =). The sandwich was tasty; all the components were fresh and the sandwich didn't fall apart when I bit into it - though judging by how much stuff I crammed into there, it was begging to be. Overall, I had a great first experience at G&R - it's nice to know places like this are still around. I would be totally open to coming back for another sandwich and to try some of their hot food.
