Update: since I can only add one review I just keep adding… Last time o had the Fish and Chips. It was pretty good! The batter was a little salty though so hopefully they see this and either change the recipe or perhaps it was just one person…? Update: my husband and I have kind of decided this is one of our main go to places when deciding where to go when we go out. The clubhouse sandwich is so good! Made with (as far as I can tell) fresh roasted turkey. Probably one of the best club sandwiches ever…maybe the best I’ve ever had. I’ll add updates/photos as I remember I haven’t been to Gabe’s in years but heard they have new owners…? The food was great, I just had a burger and a side Caesar and the service was great as well!

We came here for some fish fry but were pleasantly surprised that they offer fried pickles and Reuben specials (pierogi or sandwich), so ended up ordering those instead. It’s great to have fried pickles out of the Fair — different, but I actually prefer this one which is cut thinner. The cheese pierogis were loaded with corned beef. Also had the “asian ribs” and the mashed potatoes and both were a hit. Great beer selection & fair prices. We’ll be back for fish fry :)

Google
Great place for brunch and we would love to come back for dinner sometime. Bottomless Mimosas for $14.50! Ultimate Bloody Mary that is like a meal on its own! Hot, crispy and soft mini donuts are mouth watering delicious. Loaded tots hit the spot after a late night. At first glance you may be taken aback a bit. The dining room looks like it hasn't been remodeled since the late 70s (note: everything is clean and maintained). Lots of original woodwork that harkens back to an old school supper club vibe, but it works! Lots of parking. Friendly and attentive staff. What more could you ask for?!

Google
Wow, if it’s been a while time to come back! I had the best walleye sandwich I’ve ever had, and in Minnesota that’s saying something. My buddy got a patty melt thinking “it’s hard to screw up” and I as blown away. Would recommend!

Google
Get the brussel sprouts and cheese curds!!! They are incredible! Also love their fish and chips. Plus their pazookie for dessert! Staff has always been friendly too. We were actually there during an intense storm and the power went out. They still managed to finish making our dessert and were calm and kind to their patrons while we all waited for driving conditions to get a little safer.

Google
We’ve had 2 pregames here and had excellent food and service both times. Their fried pickle chips are awesome, wings great even sauceless (got dipping sauces on side), walleye fries were great, the only thing we were so so on were the nachos. Fake cheese was blah but otherwise all good! Service excellent, drinks cold.

Google
The Best Fish Fry Ever ! Cooked to Perfection, crisp, fresh, firm, flakey fish with light Crisp breading. We wait for Gabe's Lent fish fry every year. You will feel at home & Welcome anytime of the year, but you can't miss their fish fry. UPDATE: Gabe's Fish Fry is truly the gold standard that all others are compared to ! It doesn't get any better than this. Year after Year, Perfection.

Google
I had the PB&J Chicken sandwich and holy moly... Incredible. The chicken had such a good crunch to it. The slaw, the sauce, the bacon. Just the perfect symphony of flavors 10/10 We also had the fried pickles and those were immaculate as well. Will be back #GabesBar&Kitchen

Yelp
A nice spot for a good burger by the park! I had the como caliente and my wife had the elote. Both were very good. Juicy and flavorful. Fries were good too. Service was okay, server was very nice at first but then seemed to get a little too busy to pay us much attention which was fine.
google avatar

Yelp
Most of food was great! Cheeseburger egg rolls were a greasy gross mess! Couldn't finish appetizer.

Joan L.

Yelp
Gabe's is 5stars! The food, drinks, service (Amanda and Emily)were all exceptional! Talk about the perfect St Paul patio! 74 degrees and a Thursday night filled with glee! Thank you!

Soni L.

Yelp
Went here last night and got the fish and chips. Oooh SO good! I ate much more than I usually do, and was sad when I realized I didn't have any leftovers for this morning.... ;) Bartender was super nice and the place was not over busy. Perfect spot for us today

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have driven by Gabe's many time and finally went to try it on Superbowl Sunday! We were looking forward to watching the Superbowl and enjoying a meal together. They offer a huge parking lot & plenty of seating once you enter the restaurant. We were told to seat ourselves, and due to the lack of people we sat in a booth surrounded by TV's. If you are looking for a quieter sports bar this is your place. I was super happy with the amount of TV's and seating offered, and would be a great spot for a group of any size. Our server was great and she was very attentive. We both ordered drinks that were tasty and strong. I chose to get the taco salad with chicken and it was delicious, I still think about it! My boyfriend ordered the double cheeseburger with loaded tots and he scarfed it all down! I am really looking forward to going to Gabe's again in the future.

Yelp
Lovely! Living super close to Gabe's, I often ask myself why I don't visit more frequently. Located in the Como neighborhood, Gabe's has been around for many years bringing that classic family style environment everyone craves. From attentive servers, to pull tabs to cocktails and food, I've always had a really great experience. In addition, the parking lot is spacious adding to the ease of mind when factoring in drive time. Today I visited over lunch and the server sat us immediately when entering the door and was ready to help us whenever we needed it. We started with the deep fried pickle app (my favorite thus far from any other restaurant), a burger basket and the Asian Bowl with added chicken. The Asian Bowl was IT!! Brown rice, napa cabbage, mixed greens, carrots, edamame, corn, avocado, scallions, sesame seeds, wonton crisp, and sesame-peanut vinaigrette. Perfection! I also got a cranberry mule and even caught some of the historic HS hockey tourney. Thanks, Gabe's!

Yelp
We got a table here just before game 2 of the Timberwolves series. Initially I wasn't overly impressed with the greasy menu or the fact that the table wasn't wiped off very well but once Andrea came to our table she cleaned the table off and brought us drinks quickly. Great service from her! Prices are pretty fair and the food was good. I had the cowboy burger and my dinner mate had the tempura shrimp tacos. Both looked fantastic and had generous portion sizes. My burger came with a choice of sides- I chose tater tots and they were plentiful. Both meals were just under $16 each. Great place to watch sports with lots of TV's with food for a fair price.

Yelp
Gabe's is a great St. Paul sports bar featuring a nice sized bar and dining area as well as a private event space and bar in the back. I would also like to note this is a well known Packers bar. So if you are looking to watch a Vikes game this might not be the spot. I've never had a bad meal here. Weather it's apps, burgers, salads, or brunch, you can expect a solid meal. My most recent visit I had cheese curds which were incredible. The marinara on the side was some of the best I've had and the cheese curds had an epic gooey pull to them. Also order the current special that was PB&J Fried Chicken Sandwich. That was also delicious and had lots of flavor to it. Service is what you would expect from a local sports bar that is mostly regulars. Bartenders/servers are all friendly, fun, and attentive but tend to put regulars first. Which for me is totally fine. The regulars are also really friendly and easy to strike up conversation with. If you are looking for a Cheers type feel in a bar and some decent grub - Gabe's is the spot to be.

Yelp
I have casually met people there for drinks, so actually it was my first time eating there at all. They have a large parking lot. The restaurant has a good side bar & plenty of seating. My friend got the ultimate bloody which came with some awesome accompaniments. Made w/ Smirnoff Vodka, bloody mix, and skewered w/ cheese curds, chicken wing, beef stick, cheeseburger slider, cheeses, cured meats, bacon, herb-marinated tomato, pickled onions, mini donut, lemon & lime. They do have a few N/A options on the menu for any nondrinkers or dry January participants. I grabbed a Hoppy Refresher. The Giant Cinnamon Caramel Roll was ordered for the table to share. This fresh baked roll is huge & made w/ cinnamon sugar, house-made caramel. You can add candied pecans if you'd like. Bagel Sandwich - Everything bagel, house-made sausage-bacon breakfast sausage, love joy hot sauce cream cheese, fried egg, lettuce, onion, American cheese, and a side of American fries. The sausage was as big as a normal burger. This sandwich definitely is worth it. Good side and good flavor. The hot sauce gave a little kick which was nice. My egg had a little runny yoke which I enjoyed. I would go back again. I'd like to try dinner menu!

Yelp
Gabes is cool. It's been there so long, and they've really tried to modernize their food. I think they're also in the middle of a remodel, so I'll have to check out some of the changes of recent. This is a Packer bar on Sundays for sure. ITs a friendly atmosphere. They have a good Bloody Mary and drink specials during the game. We tried the sticky ribs, which were good. There were only 5 small ribs for like $17, but the flavor was good. Not too much meat on them however. I loved the slaw it came with. We got the pretzel and the pretzel itself was fine. Always a little too much when served on one of those pretzel hammocks. The cheese sauce was grainy and flavorless. The stroganoff was really good. I'd return for that. All in all a better experience than I had a year ago. We'll definitely return for a Packer game!
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
Fish Fry Friday all you can eat was wonderful!! The fish was hot and delicious , the service was excellent!! The beer was cold and bloody Mary's tasted great!! The Only recommendation is make reservations through the website, it's a very busy place.
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
We had a great experience at this Packer Bar! We came on a Sunday to watch the game and it was surprisingly not busy. There are plenty of monitors around the restaurant so you can easily watch the game from anywhere. The place has homey sports bar feel. I ordered the Bagel sandwich and if was flavorful and filling. Their potatoes were well-seasoned and great too. Their Ultimate Bloody Mary is a sight to see with all of the toppings! We'll return to watch more games!

Yelp
Alright. I've been coming here for years, and all honesty, it still feels like Gabe's. New ownership has spruced up the inside (feels like paint and cleaning have been done?) but it still feels like an old comfy sweater. In the past, it has always been for drinks. But now, I have something in the neighborhood that I can go to for a solid meal. As of the writing of this though (1/24/23), what has changed is their menu. I guess someone who had a stint at the Gnome has taken over and it is satisfying. I'm slowly starting to make my way through the menu and from what little I've had, I feel the stars average of Gabe's needs to creep up and be more current. I've had one of their burgers (tasty) and one of the specials, the beef stroganoff (wow!). Both meals have hit the spot. In addition, most nights there will be a nightly special (Monday's are 25% off burgers as of writing this) and their happy hours go till 6pm. Last night with the burger, I had the salad vs fries and it was really good as it came with cucumbers, tomatoes and small mozzarella balls. On Saturday and Sunday, you can get the most wicked bloody Mary that is basically a meal all by itself. Anyway, I want to hit some of their sandwiches as they also sound great. Tasty beers and nice old fashioned can also be found here along with the weed juice. If you haven't been in a while, you should go.

Yelp
We dropped in after a visit to Como, and our visit was outstanding. It was quiet given a Wednesday afternoon, but the server was attentive and quite good. The food...oh dear god the food! We ordered cheese curds and bbq wings as appetizers, both amazing. I had fish n chips, my wife had the turkey club sandwich, my daughters got the mushroom and Swiss and Gabe burgers. All fantastic, though I say the fish n chips stole the show. It's a nice laid back pub, good music. Wish I was a local, I'd visit so often

Amy Shin S.

Yelp
Very cozy place and really good environment. Their Sticky Ribs and Double Double Burger are so good. Highly recommend this place and I can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Kaitlyn K.

Yelp
Classic Midwest bar & grill with a "Cheers" vibe! There were lots of sandwich and burger options with the option of a gluten free bun (that didn't immediately fall apart). I did confirm with the waitress and they do have a shared fryer so the tots were sadly a no go. Otherwise it was a nice meal with friendly and knowledgeable staff!
google avatar

Darcy R.

Yelp
Gabe's and I go way back, close to 20 years. It's had its ups and downs with ownership changes over the years and I'm so happy to say they have that good old vibe from the happy days. Service was great! Emily was spot on, nice job Food was good. I had the Braised Beef Sandwich. Only feedback is the au jus was more like lumpy gravy. Still tasted good, but setting expectations. The other meal was the Breakfast Burger. Feedback is it would be ordered again. Unique that it had hollandaise sauce on it. Tots are part of the option included with the meal, whereas, they many times cost extra. The ambiance still has a bit of supper club vibe but they did remodel the bathrooms. Nice patio and ample parking.

Yelp
Decided to start off the new year with a friend brunch at Gabe's. It's been a few years since I have stopped in here and I almost forgot how large of a space they have. One big win is the parking lot so you don't have to street park. Also it seems very clean and lots of TVs if you are trying to catch a game. Also the fact that you can make reservations is a win! I decided to go all out and get the ultimate Bloody Mary, and let me tell you the $16 was worth it. The burger was juicy and the garnish overall was super good. It should come with a plate to deconstruct though. A friend also ordered the giant cinnamon caramel roll and shared and it was delicious. Onto my main course, I ordered the bagel sandwich, the sausage had a kick to it, the egg was the right amount of runny and the breakfast potatoes were well seasoned with the perfect crisp to them. I would stop in again try more things.

Brooke J.

Yelp
Fabulous staff (attentive, friendly, fun, outgoing), food is incredible and comparable to everywhere else but has so much variety. And ambiance is chill and so welcoming. Easy to make a quick friend!

Lori G.

Yelp
We went on st Patrick's day. Just walked in and enjoyed the party with fish sandwiches and green beer
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
Had a good experience at Gabe's! Came for a Sunday evening dinner, wasn't too busy. Sat right away outside, and we're served quickly. Great 'bar food' type style, very tasty. We had the Birria quesadilla, Nashville hot chicken sandwich and the tater tots! Would come back again- their breakfast bar looks really good, will most likely return to try that.
google avatar

Tom F.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot with friendly staff and great specials. They keep good tap beers, tasty bar food, and pull tabs. Neighborhood gem in Como Park. I would rate it higher but they are a Packers bar.
google avatar

Samantha C.

Yelp
Great local neighborhood bar! Chill vibes and atmosphere. Prefect place to unwind on a Friday after a long work week. Provided happy hour specials are unbeatable and tempting. BEST part is that the staff really make you feel like you're family every visit. Thank you Gabe's!

Yelp
This weekend had a lot of last minute plans, eating spot changes, and spur the moment suggestions. Saturday evening found us at a local spot I hadn't been to in years. You can find Gabe's nestled up around the Como Park area of St Paul and it's a great spot to stop in for a bite, hang out on their patio, go to a couple of bingo nights, or watch a sportsball game. A few of our friends either used to work here or it was a usual softball after bar for them and they had some good suggestions on what to order. Cookie Skillet ~ Fresh baked chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate and caramel sauce and whipped cream. **killer dessert easily shareable with a few friends to ease a sweet tooth! The cookie comes warm, gooey, and crispy melting the ice cream and toppings.** Reuben ~ Shaved corned beef piled high on Black Russian Rye with swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing. **this is a solid Reuben for sure. I really liked their corned beef and it was sliced nice and thin with a good salt and fat ratio.** I'd only previously been here for drinks, but now I'm a fan of their eats and I'm Livin for it.

Bridget S.

Yelp
Aries was an amazing server. She has such a great sense of humor and is engaging. She had wonderful recommendations for food and drinks.
google avatar

Rhonda G.

Yelp
The parking lot was full at 4. You could also smell the aroma of the fish frying. I didn't realize the fishfry special is everyday not just Friday until Apr. 15. As you walk in there's a huge bar with seating on the left right and in the back. We were put at the back area that has its own small bar. the bartender was the waitress and she was awesome and very fast. We started with shrimp soup, really yummy. The fish is the fat fish finger type with a delicious homemade tarter sauce. The fries are king here, super crunchy. I like how they have ketchup and malt vinegar on every table. Our section was full at 4:30. When we left there was a table full of clowns at the main bar. All I could think of was the Steeler's Wheel song, stuck in the middle with you. Shamefully this was our first time here. We'll have to make up for that.
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
A stop on our fish fry tour. It took 30 minutes for a server to notice us! It took another 10 or so to get our drinks ordered. I think our server was checked out. Another gal took over and it was smooth sailing from there. Fish fry was good, tarter sauce tasty, cole slaw didn't have much flavor, fries ok but kicked up a notch with the malt vinegar on the table. Atmosphere with all the regulars was good! They played some good music, too! Onto the next fish fry destination!

Alexa V.

Yelp
I love the vibe at Gabe's, and the service has always been wonderful, but just as a warning to vegetarians, the new menu that was adopted a few years back leaves a lot to be desired. Of the entrees that are vegetarian, I've found the flavors to be lacking and non-appetizing. So for veg friends, definitely go for the drinks, but maybe eat ahead of time.
google avatar

Audrey H.

Yelp
Classic St Paul establishment for a reason. The place to go for beer, burgers, meat raffle, pull tabs, bingo, or fish fry. Service keeps things moving and makes sure your glass is always full. Pro tip: the beef stroganoff is the real star of the menu!

Salsawarrior C.

Yelp
Food was ok, nothing special. Fries were cold when they brought them out. Burger was a star above hamburger helper. Service was mediocre.
google avatar

Paul W.

Yelp
We had come to this place mainly as a late night eatery or for a few drinks prior to the pandemic. Post-pandemic, we started dropping by for lunches and dinner, and have been pleasantly surprised by how good the food has been, welcoming and seriously wonderful levels of service, and great summer vibes. Completely changed our opinions. It's now a regular spot on our neighborhood circuit. You also have to admire the pull tabs station, solid beer selection, and surprising variety and quality of food represented by the menu. Its basic go-tos are deceptive -- there's some really good stuff here, including the BBQ pork sandwich, cauliflower bites, and walleye.

Barbie O.

Yelp
This place was very mediocre. It was extremely loud with the bingo game going on along with everyone talking. Our waitress was fine. Nothing spectacular but she may just have been having an off day which I completely understand. But the food was...pretty bad. Everything was extremely bland and nothing tasted fresh except for the cheese curds. I went on a double date with my husband and his parents and none of us liked anything that we ordered.
google avatar

Philip F.

Yelp
Packer bar with best cheese curds in Minnesota. Nice tap selection. Friendly wait staff
google avatar

Aaron K.

Yelp
Just updating an old review. I would say they slipped from B- to solid C. Still 3 stars. Menu changed in order to "dress up" and the prices are pretty "dressed up" too. They may have picked the wrong time to make this change with record inflation going on. They're still a very solid bar & grill, I don't think they can or even should shake that because it's really an All-American institution in pretty much in the entire west end of St. Paul. Not sure I can honestly recommend food here anymore because the menu has turned so eclectic with prices to match. The burgers are usually decent though I wouldn't go there on a non-Monday when they're full price.
google avatar

Priya Z.

Yelp
Alright, I have come here a few more times, and I should update my review. I will add a star because I do enjoy Trivia, and that is why I keep coming back. Tuesday Night Trivia @ 8pm. The place is usually packed and somewhat hard to get a parking space, if you arrive just before Trivia. Recently I've ordered the Monster Nachos, and man they do not disappoint. I usually get them without Meat. Since I am a practicing Pescetarian. I do enjoy how they come with the fixings. Lettuce, Tomatoes, Black Olives, Onions and delicious Nacho Cheese. Most places when you order the Nachos without Meat they are bland, it's like the meat makes the nachos, and I appreciate this place for recognizing that doesn't need to be the case. I've had the Fried Pickles, Mac and Cheese and a friend once got the Buffalo Wings. He complained stating that even though they were good, not great. He remembers reading somewhere online that it was a pound of wings. I don't know where he got that, since I didn't look, but he was positive he read it somewhere and wanted the pound of wings. The bar get can a little loud and crazy at times during trivia, and it was unfortunate the bartenders didn't do anything about it, but thankfully the trivia host had the nerve to ask them to quiet down for a minute or two while she read a question. Did it work? No. But at least she tried. The bartender just laughed about it. Overall, the service has it's ups and downs, not each time is it the greatest, but I do enjoy Trivia, which is a 3rd party company so really I can't give Gabe's the credit, but I will give them the added star from my last review for the smarts they have for hosting Trivia. Not that Gabe's reads the review, but it would be a bonus if they had food or drink specials during Trivia, which as far as I know they don't. They have it before, and soon after. The group I enjoy playing Trivia with, we like to go home after Trivia. We don't want to hang around.

Yelp
This place has a family friendly chilis vibe. Unfortunately , it missed the mark as a "neighborhood bar and kitchen". I was impressed with their menu and their inclusion of Minnesota staples.
google avatar

Seth F.

Yelp
We've been holding out for a patio dinner at Gabe's since pre pandemic, and waited too long. The service was efficient and friendly. The meals were large and tasty. My quesadilla in particular was awesome. Liked the experience so much we rebooked a private party of 15 for the next weekend from another place wanting to charge us a f&b min of 1000$. Gabe's earned nearly that anyway. Keep up the good work; and go Pack Go.

Ornela K.

Yelp
Local gem. Good food and drinks. Casual atmosphere and great patio. We have been going here since 2014.
google avatar

Kamrin D.

Yelp
Great place to watch a packers game. It's a Packer Bar so you get a pretty good crowd. They occasionally have drink or happy hour specials based on what time the game is. Food is pretty good, service is great even when it's busy. They also have some vegetarian options including flatbread and salads.
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
This place is such a gem. The staff is always amazing and they've been absolutely killing it lately with the unique food specials. Bonus the patio is dog friendly! Please make the fry bread taco permanent !!
google avatar

Rose M.

Yelp
Love the new and improved patio. Great bar food at a decent price. Had not been here in ages but came for the tried and true loaded nachos with liquid cheese (not shredded). We had a couple of ciders that they had on tap. And also shared their traditional wings with buffalo sauce. The heat ratings on the menu actually exaggerate how hot the flavors are. Love both of our food items. Dog friendly patio too!

Yelp
Watch your tab!! We had two bills by our table...one in cash for $134 and the other by credit card at $54. They took the cash and closed it out but also ran the credit card for $134!!! It was caught! "Oh so sorry!" Came back and ran the card AGAIN for the original bill at $54! So now the credit card was charged $188! they tried to make it right with a $25 gift card! That's like an appetizer at Gabes!!!!! Not going to happen!!!! Im a regular and my review is legit! Not happy with Gabes WHATSOEVER!!! ..

Leanne B.

Yelp
I'm a fan! Prompt seating. Good food especially the birria quesadilla! Will return for sure

Risa Y.

Yelp
First time diner here and yes, we did have a few hiccups: 1. One of our friends her order, a walleye sandwich didn't come out until much later, when most of us were finishing our meal. 2. My wine didn't come out until the end of my meal... 3. None of us at our table got any napkins or silverware and had to go hunt it down on our own.... ...BUT the food was pretty good! I ordered the chicken wings which I was able to order in 2 different styles and it was super yummy. Onion rings were humongous and good. My friend said her walleye sandwich which didn't arrive until later WAS pretty good afterall... Plenty of parking at this restaurant... I don't know if I'll come all out just to eat at this restaurant again, but it was pretty decent and good. It's a good and convenient restaurant to go to when we're visiting the Como Conservatory for sure!
google avatar

Sheri S.

Yelp
Bar time, I have had some good memories at Gabe's. It was a convenient place to go for a drinks or host a casual get together, they apparently also cater. It is a pretty versatile bar. it was easy to have a large group there and watch sports or something more intimate. They have a number of different nooks that make this place a fun casual hang out. They catered an event for school there and had a very good spread of catered food in their oversized back room. I even had the pleasure of playing "Heads Up" in their high top bar table area, so that tells you that they are pretty chill about people having a good time. When it comes to there drink and food, I enjoy their Vegas bombs shots. Most of the time we had appetizers. I have enjoyed their cheese curds, sampled the steak and onion ring pizza among other appetizers such as their potato skis minus the bacon and their Buffalo wings are also good.

Yelp
Great service and accommodation for meal that needed to be replaced due to dietary needs. Fry sauce is worth it.

Best brunch in town by far. Would highly recommend for fun brunch on the patio. The breakfast sandwich is the best breakfast Sammy I have ever enjoyed

Yelp
The customer service is horrible. The waiters don't care to talk to you, they just come to your table and ask what you want. After I put my order in, she came back 30 seconds later with the bill and said "I know you dont have your food yet, but here you go, have a good one." Super weird experience and honestly feels like fast food because they just take your order and are done with you. Food is okay, not the best but not the worst. The atmosphere is good but Ive never seen customer service this bad before, and this was the first time I have never tipped on a tab. I would give this a 0/5 stars but it wont let me, so here's a petty 1 star I guess. Only go here if you WANT to feel like a nuisance to the staff! lmao.

Yelp
The servers were nice. Gabe's does Bingo on Thursday nights, which is EXTREMELY LOUD if you aren't playing bingo. I ordered the Caesar Salad, it came without croutons and without much flavor. It was a bad choice. The restaurant is unattractively dark and dated and the bathroom needs a face lift. I didn't find anything that makes me want to come back anytime soon.
