The short version:
Delicious and authentic food. Good for the price, left full, will definitely return again. Want to take my family here when they are in town!
The longer version:
It would be very easy to drive past this place if you're not using your phone for guidance, as it's a small window front next to a lot of residential buildings and an auto shop. The first thing upon entering is OMG it smells amazing - a good sign. We were the only two people here on a Saturday night, which I was surprised by. We did see another couple and a family come in just as we were leaving, so I'm glad they are getting some business here. I want this restaurant to stay alive.
My husband and I spent a month in Germany a few years ago, and we are always eager to have authentic German faire. In fact, it's where we learned to love sauerkraut. The food here is authentic and delicious. In many ways, the whole place sticks to a very European vibe: You order at the counter and food is brought to you when ready. The portions are decent and filling, but not oversized like many American restaurants. Water is poured in small cups. Meals are served a la carte, and extras like bread or a salad are an additional charge ($1-2 at most). We ate two Krauts/Wursts with onions and sauerkraut, one order of 5 peirogies, and one order of spaetzle = $28 and it was perfectly sized. I have seen other people write that sometimes they would go here and she was out of items on the menu, and this was the case tonight. That doesn't bother us much, I think it's a sign of a small, family-owned restaurant that cooks seasonally and as things are available. Also happy with the cost and the sizes. We loved our meal! We were trying to talk and plan Christmas gifts over dinner but kept getting distracted by asking each other, "Oh did you try this? It's so good. Oh try that with a little mustard! Delicious..." We vowed to come back, and bring our families when they are in town. I'm actually really happy to hear that Gabby's food is at the Christkindl Market, because this is the season and going to eat it there will feel like we are back in Dresden.
I saw that this place is also marketing itself as a morning/afternoon coffee and pastry place, and I would really love to come back and try out the sweets. We didn't have any, but she had some at the counter and they looked amazing.
