The Best Restaurants & Bars In Big Bear

"Gaby's Latin Flavors serves a split Bolivian-Mexican menu, but we suggest ordering the Bolivian food. (The owner-chef is Bolivian, so her native cooking is what she does best.) This casual restaurant is our go-to spot on the mountain for spicy, hearty food that warms you up from the inside out. We love the asado en olla, or spicy short beef ribs seasoned with ají and served with rice and penne pasta coated in a traditional Bolivian peanut sauce. Make sure to get their simple avocado salad on the side, too. If you're looking to share, split the fricase–a spicy pork and hominy soup with a zippy, tomato-y broth that will revive you after a day of not feeling your left buttcheek because snow got in your ski pants. Gaby’s is a must if you are in Big Bear. Delicious food with generous portions. Experience Bolivia, by going to Gaby’s. The Bolivian carnitas were 11/10, as well as Gaby’s burger (family favorite), and the Enchiladas plate. The Bolivian hot chocolate was fun to try, given it’s made with real whole cacao. Gaby also easily modified the Enchiladas plate to fit our dietary preferences. Gaby is a 11/10 chef and we’re grateful she’s here! She has firmly added so much flavor and depth to the community. We’ll be back to try the Bolivian Selections! 👩🏻‍⚖️🇧🇴🍛🍔🥘🥩🧀🌶️🍽️☕️🍫

Glad my friend let’s try this place. Big parking lot in the back so plenty of parking. Staff was super friendly. We went when there was a big party so took a little bit to order and wait for our food. However it was cooked to order. I got the salmon which comes with their avocado salad & asparagus. It was tasty. Especially if you some of their salsa which is really good. Both of them. They brought it out with my friends’ tacos which they also both enjoyed. 1 had crunchy & 1 had soft. The aqua Fresca was also very good. We also tried saltenas but we haven’t eaten it yet.

Bolivian menu adds to good Mexican selection. We had beef short ribs and avocado salad. The ribs was nicely marinated and tender. Tamarin fresca was good. Friendly service. Patio is next to main 18 roadway which takes away from atmosphere. Next door is bar with music that drifted over. Good parking at back of Gaby's.

Google
Gaby is extremely hospitable & has amazing Bolivian food. Homemade, made to order & lots of care is put into the food (Gaby told us it takes her a 3 days process to prepare the empanada ingredients). Extremely recommend trying the empanadas during breakfast hours as early as 8am Saturday & Sunday. First time trying Bolivian food but it definitely won’t be the last. We will definitely be making this our go-to spot whenever we visit big bear.

Got drawn in by the colorful building. Visited ~3pm on a Sunday, no wait. The chips came out warm and the salsas fresh and tasty. The spicy yellow smoky salsa was my favorite, but the rest of the table demolished the mild red. The staff were friendly and welcoming. They have Bolivian/Mexican food, which we hadn’t had before. The meats and yuca were so good! You could tell the food is made in house and big portions too.

Google
We came in and got the avocado salad, a gaby’s veggie burrito, enchilada & chili relleno, a kid’s quesadilla, and kids chicken strips. Everything was delicious. The chips were extra light crispy and airy which I loved. I also really liked the Bolivian chili salsa.

Google
Easily the best meal I’ve had in Big Bear over the years. All the ingredients were fresh and well prepared. The Bolivian recipes are authentic and packed with flavor. Can’t recommend this spot highly enough for a high value lunch in town!

Google
I had such a great experience at Gaby’s Latin Flavors! The Bolivian food was absolutely delicious—flavorful, authentic, and clearly made with care. It’s not every day you find a spot that serves traditional Bolivian dishes so well, and I genuinely enjoyed every bite. The service was warm and welcoming, and the overall vibe made it feel like a home-cooked meal shared among friends. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re looking to try something different and truly satisfying. I’ll definitely be back! ~ visiting from Prescott, Az

Yelp
Fantastic flavors here! We loved everything we ordered which included the incredible avocado salad. Scoop some avocado salad with a chip and drop some of the spicy salsa on it and it's heaven. The spicy margarita amazing, so flavorful, and you didn't have to search for the heat! We're going back tomorrow for breakfast. FYI, you order at the front next to the bar. Get your own water and find a table.

Yelp
This place was exceptional. I had a wet burrito that was everything I'm hoping for when I order a wet burrito. The staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome. I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Yelp
Visiting here with family. Ordered mix Fajitas, Cornell Al Paso (pork ribs), plata salad( avocado salad), chicken wings plain in ranch and tres leches. Everything was delicious except the chicken wings which was very salty. It was so salty, they need to reduce the salt. Tres leches was very good with chocolate on top. Thier dishes were very good, fresh and avocado salad was the so delicious.Hats off to that!!! Highly recommended Mexican Cusine.

Yelp
Looking for an excellent dining experience in Big Bear! Gabby's Bolivian-Mexican fusion was amazing and the service was second to none. Gaby & her daughter Mosita made us feel like we were coming over to a friend's house for a homemade meal. We'll definitely be back every time we're in Big Bear
google avatar

Katrina M.

Yelp
This place was very yummy and offered lots of tuna on their tuna dishes. We ordered the poke burrito, poke nachos, and shrimp fajitas. The poke burrito was a little bit better than the nachos because the nachos were just soy sauce for flavor. The shrimp fajitas were sizzling good! Only downside is I think they forgot about our orders because it took a very long time to get our cheese dip out. But I'd still come back, it was just one thing, not a make or break at all

Yelp
We celebrated our 41st anniversary in Big bear and went to this quaint restaurant for dinner. I can't begin to tell you how excellent the food was. We had the best chili relleno we had ever tasted, everything was a treat. The owner came by multiple times to make sure we were happy. This will be our first stop when we go back to Big Bear we highly recommend Gabys!!
google avatar

Andrew G.

Yelp
This place is amazing. I love the gabby's veggie burrito. It's a bit different than what you normally might find at a Mexican cantina. The service was good. I would be a regular if I was a local.

Yelp
We are always on the look out for a good place to eat in Big Bear. Gaby's did not disappoint. I like the selection of Peruvian dishes. I ordered the Carnitas and it was very tasty, with a generous portion. My wife and I shared the Palta salad and let me say it was great. My wife had the Shrimp Fajitas and she loved it. This is not your typical salad. It is sliced avocados, onions and tomatoes with a basket of chips. The five chile sauce on the side is what makes it great. The restaurant has a homey atmosphere with plenty of seating. Gabby and her daughter work hard to get the orders out in timely manner, so be patient and enjoy the experience. Parking easy and in the back.

Yelp
What a fabulous find here in the heart of Big Bear! The owner and her family are hardworking, friendly and you can tell take deep pride in the business they've created. The food is incredible, authentic and the portion sizes are so generous. The dishes are colorful, fresh and a masterpiece to look at. It's impossible to leave hungry. ORDER THE PALTA SALAD WITH A SIDE OF CHIPS as an appetizer. You won't be disappointed. Everything on the menu looks amazing. I got the shrimp fajitas and it was the best I've ever had. The restaurant itself is very homey, which I loved. If you come, take your time and enjoy the ambience. Everything is made to order so it may take a bit of time, but it's well worth it! This will be our go-to whenever we are in Big Bear.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't hesitate one minute to eat here!! It was all amazing flavors!! A experience all of its own!!! You will not be disappointed!!

Herb H.

Yelp
This place is not on the tourist walk but right on the main drag going east with the lake. What a great find! This is home cooking folks and wow what a cool menu. Bolivian flavor and style with Latin dishes. Must try the Short Ribs, oh how delish. Avocado solid and the home made chips are a must. You won't go wrong here. Great people and we will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Everything about Gaby's Latin Flavors felt like a home! We stopped by for dinner after a day of skiing and snowboarding, and it did not disappoint. The food was not only delicious but also tasted incredibly fresh. I highly recommend trying their hot chocolate--it was rich, creamy, and the perfect way to warm up after a cold day. On top of that, the staff were lively, friendly, and full of great energy, making the experience even better!

Yelp
Must visit. This place is insanely good. Kind people, amazing service. The food is so good! The avocado salad is so good. 10/10 would definitely come back.

Yelp
What a treat!! From the authentic homemade food to the delicious margaritas, all wrapped up in a welcoming environment with great service...what more could you ask for??

Yelp
A hidden gem that's not so hidden in Bear! Right on the main blvd is this vibrant Bolivian/mexican food restaurant. I've been going up to bear since I was a newborn and have seen this building for the last few years and never really looked into it. My family and I decided to try it out and damn it didn't disappoint. My dad never likes anything and finds a way to complain about everything but let me tell you... this guy asked questions about her vegetable soup and said it was the best burger he's ever had. Gaby is a legend. She came out greeted us, asked us about our experience and told us the history of Bolivian food. The whole experience was too notch. We've gone now back to back weekends and I'm already looking forward to next weekend. Nothing we've had disappoints. Try the whole menu!
google avatar

Hubert Z.

Yelp
Good tasting and quality food with no additives. Friendly staff. Only marking down because food took a little while to come out. I would do 4.5 stars if there was an option. I would also definitely come back next time I visit the area.
google avatar

Beth B.

Yelp
This place started off strong with great customer service. There was a spread of breakfast pastries that we had two of for an appetizer, and they were absolutely delicious. We also had the chips, salsa, and avocado salad, which was one of my favorites. The food was also really good. I had the enchiladas, and they were different but still tasty. I would definitely recommend it!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, friendly staff, conveniently located on big bear blvd. Highly recommended. All foods are freshly made!!

Yelp
We were greeted by Gaby who is warm and inviting. Amazing charrasco for two, and fresh agua Fresca. Highly recommend, we can't wait to come back!

Michelle Y.

Yelp
Ordered late night to go after the NBA finals game ended. The staff were all very nice even at the late hour - thank you for preparing us such delicious and healthy food! The food... boy, hit the spot exactly. The colorful variety of vegetables were very refreshing and filling. We ordered: veggie pasta, gaby's veggie burrito, kid's cheese enchiladas, and nachos (no meat). HIGHLY recommend. *Easy parking and lots of interesting decor inside the restaurant to look at while we waited for our food. THANK YOU, thank you.
google avatar

Serena G.

Yelp
Absolutely DELICIOUS! This place is definitely a hidden gem and I can't wait to come back and have this exact same dish (because it was so good) but I also want to try so many more dishes on the menu!! I had the steak con queso and a strawberry aqua Fresca. Both were delicious!

Yelp
First time in Big Bear and just had an amazing dinner at Gaby's! The woman who greeted us and took our orders was welcoming and hospitable, which already set the tone for how warm and comforting the dining experience was going to be. Seating is plenty and the restaurant was bright and inviting. Sometimes I order horchata if I have a hunch the food is going to be good. Theirs was very smooth and has the right amount of flavors & sweetness (they definitely use real sugar -- none of that syrup and weird aftertaste). I'm pretty sure their other agua frescas were refreshing and wished I got to try them though. The chorrellana I ordered was tender enough in its texture, rice/quinoa & beans were also freshly made -- did not taste premade & from a can. My friend had the picante de pollo and they also scarfed the entire plate down saying it was good. Neither of us talked at all, the food was THAT delicious because we were so busy eating. Everything was so flavorful and well-seasoned. This place has a lot of love and care shown through their service, restaurant space, and especially their food. Highly recommended.

Yelp
5 = food 5 = service 5 = ambience Everything was excellent. They have a mixture of Bolivian, Mexican, and American food. We started off with the avocados salad served with their homemade tortilla chips which was delicious. I want to learn how to make the salad at home. I ordered their Costillas Al Horno which is Spicy marinated oven-cooked pork ribs. Served with Bolivian white rice and rainbow salad. My hubby ordered their Picante de Pollo Spicy chicken cooked and marinated with a secret house recipe which we think is the same sauce they serve with the chips. Served with rice and peanut pasta. Both dishes were pretty spicy compared to what we're used to, but I finally got used to it. I preferred my husband's chicken over my ribs. The chicken wasn't dry. Both dishes had the spices cooked throughout the meat and it made it very delicious. The server was helpful and gave her recommendations. Restaurant wasn't too busy for a Tuesday night so plenty of parking.

Rando D.

Yelp
Best Bolivian / Spanish / Mexican in Big Bear by Far!!! Hope you don't miss this amazing place. Gaby treats you like here own Family.

Yelp
This restaurant has now become my favorite restaurant in Big Bear. When you walk in you are give a menu and seated. Once you know what you would like to order you walk up to the front of the restaurant and place your order. The server will then bring drinks and food to your table. The place was colorful and bright. Food: we ordered Bolivian food. I had the Chorrellana and my husband ordered Lomo Montano. Both plates were flavorful with the hint of right spice. We also ordered the homemade chips with guacamole, which was different to your typical guacamole sauce. It was more like a guacamole salad but either way delicious. The restaurant was clean and staff was very attentive.

Yelp
Señora Gaby has my entire heart, and I knew her food was going to be amazing the second she scolded me (lovingly) for grabbing salt and pepper shakers before the food arrived to my table. She was right- her food was perfectly seasoned and no additions or substitutions were needed! The music was fun, and I felt like I was hanging out at a tia's house for dinner. The fricase and asado en olla brought me back to life after a day of traveling and hanging out around the summit. The fricase (Bolivian pozole) was probably the best bowl of restaurant pozole I've had in years. The meat from both the fricase and asado en olla were fall off the bone tender and served in hearty portions. Highly recommend a visit here after a long day around the summit!

Yelp
Should have tried Gabbys a decade ago. I've heard mixed views on this local, but international flavored restaurant. I'm excited to try the new to me dishes soon I was served Costillas Al Horno.. Spicy pork ribs served with their special seasoned white rice and veggies. The meat was tender, juicy and robust in flavor. I was served two choices of salsa, mild and spicy so I would know what level my next order should be at. Honestly, both were great.

Taylor N.

Yelp
I went just for the ribs and they were deelish! Paired very well with ice cold Pacifico!
google avatar

Yelp
Another 6 star experience this weekend. Gabby is an amazing lady making delicious food. We had carne asada burrito, vegi burrito, kids chicken strips, and a burger. All were tasty. Picked up my order and walked to my car. As a i was prepared to leave I heard a knock on the window. Gabby ran out to bring my salsa that I forgot. What service!
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
As a local resident I must admit I was absolutely blown away from the time I walked to the time I walked out. The service was so welcoming I honestly felt like I was welcomed into a family's home who was so happy to serve me some Bolivian meals for my first time! Honestly, the only thing I was upset about is why it took me so long to stop on in! Great ambiance throughout the whole building! The food literally took me for a ride through Bolivia's flavor town! The chips are so fresh, the salsa only I could have easily kept eating till I was full! It's home cooked so time is taken to provide such a fresh delicious authentic meal that the time taken is well worth. I highly recommend stopping in and eating some amazing food that will have you absolutely coming back again for more! I can't stress it enough, get on in there and try some food that will blow your mind! I could easily say it's an easy 10/10! I will be coming back for sure! Thank you for having such great food here locally up in Big Bear! If you are local and haven't stopped by you're missing out!
google avatar

Yelp
DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE! Staff is rude and the quality of service is trash! The old lady is bitter and asked me to leave with my son because he was crying, after I had just placed my order and received my drinks, which btw were disgusting(hot chocolate and horchata)! Shortly after another couple Got up and asked for a refund because of the bad service and the quality of their food! Negative stars!
google avatar

Thomas R.

Yelp
Amazing food! My wife and I went with our 9 month old and loved our experience! The food was amazing but the service had a very personal touch and you could tell they genuinely cared about our experience. Portions were large and delicious. My wife had a mango margarita on the rocks which she enjoyed very much. We come up to big Bear 1-2 times a year and will definitely be back next time we're up there.
google avatar

Mau L.

Yelp
Words cannot describe how amazing our experience at Gaby's was! She was amazingly kind, thoughtful, and her food was out of this world! I'm Bolivian and haven't had some good Bolivian food (outside of my own home) in ages. Gaby's seasoning was so good I felt like I was dinning at my grandmothers house! The service was great and the portions were very generous! Everything from the salads, to the home made drinks and main dishes was so good! We enjoyed every bite and craved for the next one! We also found a new extended family on Gaby! She is like a beloved auntie that loves to cook and treat people to a blissful culinary experience Please do yourself a favor and try this place, you will not regret it! Tip: treat everyone with love, respect and dignity and you will receive the same in return
google avatar

LeAnne B.

Yelp
Great food and hospitality. The avocado salad is as good as everyone says it is. Dishes were fresh and flavorful.

Jared H.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in big Bear hands down. Salsa is amazing. Margaritas were just right and the service is on point, make you feel like part of the family. Quick service and I love ordering and paying initially so I don't feel stuck.

Noah G.

Yelp
We loved our time at Gaby's so much we went two days in a row on our weekend trip! The service was excellent, the food was delicious and healthy. We also enjoyed cocktails and they were exceptional. We had Lomo Montado our second day and a Rumbito with coconut milk added, frozen. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Rebecca T.

Yelp
Gaby's was our last meal on our last night in Big Bear, and it was a solid choice! A Mexican-Bolivian restaurant, it's run by a mother-daughter duo (with Gaby spearheading the operation, of course) that serves up food from the heart. We were told that it'd take a while for our food to come, as the kitchen was preparing from scratch, but honestly, it came out faster than expected. The taco platter I got (I chose carnitas) came as a generous portion: full of rice and beans and, of course, the tacos themselves. The carnitas were seasoned well, albeit just a tad dry. Rice was delicious and as it was "Bolivian rice," it looked and tasted different from the Mexican rice I often have. What also impressed me was how it wasn't too salty, which was lovely! The Bolivian hot chocolate was nice and sweet (and piping hot!). We also got tres leches cake in the end, which was made in a different style I was accustomed to, but a sweet way to end the night. Service was very accommodating and courteous: I believe Gaby herself even came out to check on us! Don't skip this place the next time you're in Big Bear!

Yelp
Beautiful spot for Latin style dining ! The staff was lovely and recommended some good stuff. We did the carne asada bard shell tacos, a pork burrito, The avocado salad, and a giant house margarita! The food was great! We enjoyed our meal And I loved the avocado salad. The margarita was HUGE and generous! Excelente! We also for the tres leches for dessert , so good.

Todd W.

Yelp
What a great find! It has a quiet front that is hard to see, but the food is delicious. Service is polite, helpful and friendly...and...WOW, The house margarita is amazing. Check it out and you won't be disappointed. We love Gaby's!!
google avatar

Loyal C.

Yelp
The food is delicious! You have to try the salmon it's buttery soft and very flavorful.
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible experience! Food was fantastic! Finding great restaurants in Big Bear can be a challenge, but this one is definitely worth coming back to!
google avatar

Hee K.

Yelp
Just had another fantastic meal at Gaby's. We started with Palta (avocado salad). It was so fresh and delicious and perfectly opened our appetite. The red salsa and Bolivian hot salsa were delicious with the homemade chips. We ordered the Costillos Al Horno and Lomo Montado. The dishes were so good and perfectly seasoned. The quinoa rice was yummy. I'm sure the Mexican dishes are delicious (we heard the toddlers at the next table express their delight in their Mexican dishes) but we take advantage of the Bolivian specialties that are hard to find in Southern California. But don't forget to order the margaritas. The spicy margaritas were probably one of the best margaritas we've had. The staff are so friendly. The restaurant squeaky clean and homey. It's definitely one of the best restaurants in Big Bear and in Southern California.

Yelp
We got into Big Bear later this evening and stopped by to grab a bite to eat! This place was highly rated and it definitely did not disappoint! From the sweet quaint atmosphere to the food was outstanding. Service is 10/10 and everything is made is fresh- even homemade chips! You can truly taste the difference in the quality and love of the food! Thank you for a great meal tonight!

Caroline C.

Yelp
5 star food and service! Everything tasted so fresh. If you're only eating out one place in Big Bear Lake, THIS IS IT!! Absolutely incredible. Go check out Gaby's!

David D.

Yelp
A real gem in big bear. This place makes just about everything from scratch and it really shows with flavorful, authentic food. The staff were super friendly and service was timely. Our picky children enjoyed the cheese quesadillas and the adults loved the avocado salad and fajitas plates.
google avatar

Keith F.

Yelp
Bolivian food was great, everything was homemade and it showed. I had Asado En Olia or spicy short ribs with rice, peanut pasta and yucca root. The rice was cooked perfectly. Also had watermelon juice with tequila, then a spicy margarita. They infuse with he chilies into the tequila. Wife had Lomo Montano or Carne asada with eggs over easy with the fabulous rice, potatoes and a Bolivian pico de gallo. Almost forgot about the appetizer, Palta salad which is an avocado, tomato and onion salad with a creamy vinaigrette with some sweetness to it. . Delicious. We did split our plates with our dog and he enjoyed it as well. Nice to have a dog friendly patio. First time to Big Bear. First meal was 5 stars.
google avatar

Jodeye H.

Yelp
For one, if you are in a hurry- don't come here. It seems to be a family owned business. Everything is cooked to order, I think the tortilla chips are even made in house. We had the two taco plate, you cannot mix the meat.. don't ask. Servers were very kind. Super clean place, private parking lot in the back.

Yelp
On our last night of a magical Big Bear camping getaway we stumbled upon Gaby's Latin Flavors. We are happy that the favorable reviews were accurate! The Bolivian dishes were incredible (Gaby encouraged us to try the avocado salad appetizer which was refreshing and delicious) the Lomo Montado was a unique carne asada with carrots, tomatoes and eggs alongside rice and potatoes. The Chorrellana thin Bolivian steak with purple grilled onions and tomato served with rice and refried beans dish was also fantastic . We loved that the refried beans were not from a can. Our house margaritas were also made from scratch and the flavor was unique and fresh. The place felt like a well loved local treasure, cozy and relaxing. Let Gaby feed you, she's great at helping select your meal choice

Yelp
The Avocado chips and salsa is one of a kind. The service is outstanding.. The empanadas are freshly made and delicious. Baby is a wonderful hostess!!!
