Google
Acute little Japanese-inspired cafe with interesting coffees, teas, ice creams, egg waffles, and a little shop.

Heather Pierson

Google
We ordered a chocolate egg waffle with caramel and two scoops of ice cream: chocolate peanut butter and vanilla. Everything was amazing. Service was very friendly too.

Google
The atmosphere is very good. It’s very cozy. I love the BGM and the color of the light. Matcha ice cream and Houjicha ice cream were amazing! Matcha ice cream was not too sweet but not bitter. One of the best Matcha ice cream I’ve ever had. The staff member is kind.

Google
Loved the waffles + ice cream dessert. Came a while back, but it was great. Definitely a recommend.

Google
One of my favorite spots in Berkeley. Been going since they first opened and they keep me coming back! It may take a couple min, but that’s because they always make their waffles fresh and you can tell!!

Google
This is my new favorite dessert cafe in Berkeley! They egg waffle combos are amazing! The perfect pick me up on a hot sunny day. The staff is friendly and help you decide wha combo to get. The toppings are great! My favorite are the rose petals.

The deals were worth it. The waffles were crispy and soft. Ice cream had the perfect level of sweet and coldness.

Google
You staff the shop w/1 person on a Saturday night??? You need more people. Your employee, a super nice, hard-working young lady, was put in a very stressful and difficult situation. I’m giving your employee the 5 stars.

Yelp
- Amazing flavors - good staff - 10/10 ambience Gadani has really good flavors. I usually get the matcha flavor woth sesame with a little drizzle of honey

Yelp
Was pleasantly surprised with Gadani's unique flavors. Some flavors that stood out were Ube, Matcha, Lychee, and Thai Tea (which I got). They had more classic flavors such as Vanilla, Mint, and Coffee too. I just got a single scoop but their egg waffle combo looked VERY enticing. The shop is on the smaller side but there are a couple seats by the window and additional seating out the store front. The girl who served us was super nice, it was Valentine's weekend and she was the only one handling the rush of all the orders. We had to wait due to the amount of customers but she was sweet and I didn't personally mind waiting. Would come again!

Yelp
Ice cream flavors are fun and different. The waffle had a funny flavor, like the waffle iron had something else on it. Was not a fan.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered a churro waffle with ube ice cream and caramel and graham crumbs as my toppings. It was so good. The ube flavor was strong and creamy. I love that Gadani has unique flavors! The churro waffle was also a very subtle churro taste. It wasn't burnt and was the perfect soft-crunchy ratio. Service was good but there's only 1 worker so it takes a while to receive your order. Ambiance is cute and a good place to hang with friends.

Mahina G.

Yelp
Loved the matcha ice cream in the waffle cone simple and delicious! I also got the double chocolate egg waffle on the side to try it and discovered that egg waffles aren't for me. I wanted to like it, but unfortunantly I wasn't a fan. I'll definitely be back for their green tea ice cream tho

Yelp
I like the food, but the service was slow. What's interesting is a few stores down Hey atea was super busy.
google avatar

Yelp
I had Gadani bookmarked for awhile and finally had a chance to try it on a recent Saturday night before closing. The hours on Yelp page are wrong, they close at 10 pm on Saturdays. Small little shop with a small seating area. They have a lot to choose from for desserts. They also sell a bunch of hand crafted items too. Street parking only The service was nice and don't forget the 10% off check in. The gelato melted quick but blueberry cheesecake was good.

Yelp
Gadani is located in the Downtown Berkeley area - they have inconsistent hours, as I tried coming multiple times and the third time was the charm. Parking is kind of hit or miss here, as they are located in a busy area and on a busy street - I parked a couple of blocks away and walked over. This is a simple and small shop with very limited seating, but they do have a cute flower / leaf backdrop by the seating area, which is great for photos. No service whatsoever - ordering is through the kiosk by the front counter and the employee sitting by the counter does not speak to you / welcome you, nor does she even looks up from her phone. I ordered their Ice Cream Combo with your choice of egg waffle, ice cream flavor (1 flavor), and 2 complimentary toppings. For my egg waffle - I chose matcha, for my ice cream scoop - I chose matcha as well, and for my complimentary toppings - I chose condensed milk and whipped cream. Egg waffle was alright - a bit on the drier side with not much matcha taste to it, while the ice cream did not have a strong matcha taste at all. It was about $10, which I thought was a bit steep for what you get.

Yelp
Lovely hidden gem. Egg tart ice cream what a selection! No bathroom with limited seating. Other than that, delicious!

Yelp
I absolutely loveddd this dessert place! My boyfriend and I stopped by a few days ago after spending time browsing for dessert places and were very pleased that we made the choice to come here. The service was pretty fast and the ice cream combo with the egg waffles were absolutely delicious. I also appreciated how clean and nice the inside looked, it was very aesthetic. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
The place is nice and pretty welcoming, I had taken the family members out and wanted some late night ice cream. The service was amazing and the scoops are huge! Ice cream was very good! The ambiance was really calm and chill. 10/10 recommended for some good day and night ice cream!

Yelp
Per post dinner ritual for the kids, we found Gadani while exploring Berkeley downtown. Conveniently located across from the Bart station and a few steps away from the campus and numerous student housings. Small but cozy and clean interior and easy to navigate menu. A perfect place and ambiance to study and have conversations despite constant flow of customers, most of whom were doing take outs. The young lady who I believe is the owner was friendly, service-oriented, and very accommodating. It was nice to strike a conversation about how this business stormed through constructions and pandemic. Try the classic egg waffles. Homemade batter and perfect crispiness. Will return again soon!
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
so happy we found this little gem right after dinner. First thing that sold me was the Thai tea ice cream. Secondly they have the bubble waffles which the kids love. Very affordable. The staff here is very nice and courteous. Let the boys try out some sampled before picking out their ice creams. Whenever you guys are in the area come by and check this place out

Yelp
Perfect spot to have yummy dessert after dinner! I feel like you can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Our little party of 4 decided to each get something a little different and I'm glad we did. The cute decor is perfect for pictures and gives the place a nice relaxing feel. Definitely worth a try! We can't wait to go back to try something new.

Yelp
I was super excited to try out Gadani after looking at the reviews and photos on Yelp. The egg puff waffle had crunchy bits but was soft on the insides and even had mini spots of chocolate in it. The hojicha (dark roasted green tea) ice cream was so tasty and went really well with the chocolate waffle. My only complaint was that it melted too quickly! I asked for rose petals and graham cracker crumbs as toppings but only received the latter on my ice cream combo. The seating options are limited and not super comfortable; it's definitely more of an order to-go cafe. There was only one worker who seemed to be multitasking at everything, making it a bit of a wait (~10 minutes). However, I enjoyed my visit and will be back to try their other ice cream flavors and drinks. Note that they are closed on Mon/Tues and typically do not open until 4:30 pm the rest of the week.
google avatar

Joyce L.

Yelp
A cute little ice cream/ drinks mom and pap shop located in downtown Berkeley. They didn't have extensive ice cream selections (~10), however, they had some "unique" flavors to choose from... ube, matcha, dark roasted green tea, hochata, etc. Best of all, serving it with an egg waffle was the best. :)
google avatar

Karah L.

Yelp
$6.68 matcha waffle. Fantastic and fluffy textured dessert. Matcha was on the minimal side and barely detectable but enjoyed the overall flavor. Workers were friendly and patient with some rambunctious customers

Yelp
I've passed this place quite a few times when walking through downtown Berkeley and for some reason it always seemed to be closed at the times I went (even if the Internet indicated that it was supposed to be open) but a few months back, I finally lucked out. I decided to get two scoops of ice cream, mixed berry cheesecake and horchata. Both flavors were pretty good, they do offer some flavors that aren't the most common standard ones that you see at ice cream shops. They also sell drinks (e.g. milk tea) and egg puff waffles; at the time that I went, it didn't seem like any other places in Berkeley were selling egg puffs. The ice cream is decent, but it is on the pricier side, so probably would not be a common treat for me.

Yelp
Discovered this gem after lunch while walking around Downtown with friends. Although we shared a big meal at Imm Thai right around the corner, my violently lactose intolerant self can never pass up a good ice cream cone (especially one as unique as Gadani's). After sampling a few of their flavors, I settled on the strawberry ice cream with the double chocolate egg waffle. I was not prepared for such phenomenal ice cream from an outwardly unassuming cafe. The ice cream aired on the lighter end, almost bearing a resemblance to whipped cream even. The egg waffle was rich with its bittersweet chocolate flavor and even had semisweet chips littered inside. Next time though, I'd probably go for the matcha waffle to try something new! Pro tip: order the rose petals! Their flavor is subtle, but they add a certain je-ne-sais-quoi fragrance that complements fruity ice creams crazy well. Contrary to what other reviews say, I think the prices are actually really fair. The quality, portion, and appearance of their ice cream combos justify the price point imo. But, this definitely is a "treat Audrey" dessert than "regular degular Audrey" dessert.

Yelp
I came here looking for a matcha dessert after the nearby matcha cafe was sold out. The matcha egg waffle here fulfilled my craving, but wouldn't be my first choice if I was looking for matcha dessert. The lychee ice cream was light and not too sweet. Overall we had a good time here! The worker was nice and there were lots of cute decorations inside.
google avatar

Yelp
First egg waffle place I've been to in Berkeley! The place is super cute and located in downtown Berkeley. I only tried their matcha and classic egg waffles today but I definitely wanna try their churros one. Their waffle batter actually tastes different than typical Hong Kong egg waffles in a way. Still good! The matcha flavored one has a slight bitter taste, which surprised me because I thought they would use artificially flavored matcha but the bitterness makes me think that they used fresh matcha powder to make it.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is more for those who like the sweeter, not tangier things in life. The ice cream choices are solely the milk-based, not fruity and tangy selections. We got the Blueberry, and the Banana Chip. The Blueberry one was creamy but not super sweet (texture almost reminded me of a shaved ice). The Banana Chip balanced the banana flavor with the rich chocolate pretty well. We also got the Double Chocolate Egg Waffle. Perfectly crispy and gooey with chocolate when it comes out piping hot. Ambiance was nice, but there's little seating inside. There's also outdoor seating, thankfully. Service was EXCELLENT from the girl who was working there!

Yelp
Such a cute little space with lovely music! It feels like the perfect place to start the new year - and they were open until 9pm! We ordered 2 signature Gadani egg waffles and a scoop of lavender & lychee. Delicious!!
google avatar

Yelp
Gadani is an awesome cafe around the corner from UC Berkeley. Lots great deserts to choose from and they're open late! I stumbled in a little before 9PM. Swing by soon! Anthonyxibarrax

Yelp
Great ice cream & bubble waffle combo in downtown Berkeley. There wasn't any indoor seating available when I went yesterday (Friday ~8p) but service was quick enough and dessert tasted great. I got the Horchata wrapped in a Churro waffle topped with graham cracker crumbs and sprinkles. Would swap the graham cracker with oreo if I got a do-over. Flavors were on point, waffle broke apart so perfectly when I bit/tore it. Satisfying treat for an ice cream craving. Would recommend.

Yelp
I love Gadani I have been coming here since I was in high school with my friends on the weekends. They had stopped having the banana chip waffle for a while but it's back now! I would suggest getting the banana chip waffle with chocolate or vanilla ice cream :). This is a small cozy spot and not much parking near by but it has a nice vibe to it and for all you introverts out here there is a self ordering machine available if you don't want to talk to anyone. The workers are nice but they keep to themselves for the most part.

Yelp
A wonderful experience! Drinks: I recommend the rose latte as an espresso option and rose fizz as a non-espresso drink. Dessert: The double chocolate egg waffles were made to order (very warm on a cold day), delicious and not too sweet. Environment: Overall ambience was peaceful and aesthetic. Service: I was able to meet one of the owners; she is a holistic nutritionist and we spoke about using the best products as possible. Her care and through consideration about using healthy and organic ingredients defiantly shows in the food. We will be back :)

Yelp
Echoing my previous review -- I'd say come here if you are craving egg waffles; the egg puff ice cream combo looks great for the Instagram story, but it is quite pricey. We got matcha ice cream on top of matcha egg puffs but the ice cream did not taste like matcha, but this could be my personal opinion because I like strong matcha flavors. Would recommend elsewhere for matcha ice cream. Cool shop vibes though, and there's even a section where they sell cute merchandise, accessories, etc.

Yelp
Gadani is a local gem - super sweet owner, amazing ice cream, perfect espresso... it's really a perfect cafe. Ambiance is very peaceful and quiet - well done!!

Yelp
Gadani is such a cute, cozy dessert spot in Berkeley! It's perfect for when you've gotten dinner in the area and want something sweet like an egg waffle or ice cream. My go to is the ice cream egg waffle combo. The waffle isn't too sweet which helps balance out the ice cream. If you like cinnamon, you NEED to get the horchata ice cream. It's so creamy & delicious!! You go inside and order on a kiosk, which is really convenient. The employees will make your dessert and serve it to you and they are always so sweet! There's also a little area where they sell earrings, socks, and other little things from Asia which are really fun and cool :) The inside of Gadani is quite small, probably can only fit maybe 5-7 people max for seating, and there's no public bathroom. That being said, I've managed to snag a seat every time I've gone or you can get your order to go! It's hard to find good egg waffles in the area & Gadani is my favorite for that :)

Yelp
There's something off about this place... We visited on a Saturday afternoon (2/24/24) and it was completely empty, including nobody behind the counter. Since there was a digital ordering kiosk, though, we decided to start making an order thinking that someone in the back was probably just waiting for an order to come in through the system. We discussed what we wanted for 5 minutes and before submitting our order, somebody finally came out the back and sleepily informed us that the kiosk actually doesn't work so we should just order at the counter with him. It was a bit strange, but we went through with the order anyway, choosing an egg waffle cone with ube ice cream. Initially, we wanted a matcha waffle cone and oreo crumbles as an add-on, but both options were out of stock... Furthermore, the guy mentioned that it would be roughly 10 minutes or so since he had to turn on the waffle iron. Again, we thought this was strange since it was a sunny Saturday afternoon; had no one else come in?? We waited for 15 minutes before our order was finally ready, which looked fine, but tasted very mediocre. We were surprised that the ube ice cream actually had no flavor at all, almost like it was old and had been sitting in the freezer for a long time with no recent refresh. We finished what we got, but it gave us very little satisfaction. To top it all off, after we picked up our order, the guy closed the store door (it was open when we arrived) and then went to the back again. It kinda felt like he didn't want the store to be open at all. We're not sure why there are decent reviews for this place on Yelp, but they were probably from a previous period of time. Don't come here, there are lots of other great options around Berkeley. Pretty sure they don't want you to come in either.

Yelp
Stopped by here on a Sunday to relive my nostalgia for a post-midterm Banana Chip waffle and to try the new pop up matcha cafe. I missed the cafe by 5min, came here at 4:05pm, they were already washing the matcha cups! The waffle came out fresh and piping hot. Sat in the window sill to snap the pic, read a little and people watch. Will come by next time to try the matcha!

Yelp
Being a native Hong Kong born, I have tried many egg puff place and by far, this is worth my trip from SF to Berkeley to give it a try, omg, crispy outside and soft inside....so so yummy!! We had regular and chocolate favored, each had its unique taste! Just superb!
google avatar

Yelp
Colorful dessert creations, located just outside of UC Berkeley and adjacent to the Bart station. This small coffee shop and dessert bar prepares one of the most delicious egg waffle treats. Although they have an iPad to pre-order, I don't recommend using it. Simply wait for the counter person, and place your order. Feature item: chocolate egg waffle, with two scoops of ice cream (chocolate and UBE purple) add chocolate drizzle and whipped cream! Definitely recommend this place on your way to visit UC Berkeley!
google avatar

Rehab K.

Yelp
Love love loved this spot - really good coffee and waffles, definitely more on the eggy side but highly recommend! I tried the plain flavor with oreo and chocolate drizzle and a 25% sweet latte!

Yelp
Came here with the gf after dinner for a sweet treat. Although I did not realize it initially, I actually had Gadani bookmarked for awhile so it was definitely great to check off another thing on my Yelp list of places to try! The store itself is small, but very cute and has a great fake grass backwall that is definitely great for those IG pics. To order, you can either use the self-serve kiosk at the front, or go up to the cashier. For our trip this time, we got the chocolate & strawberry waffle cone with a scoop of blueberry yogurt ice cream. It takes a good 10mins to make, but is well worth the wait! The waffle itself is hot and fluffy, and is delicious to have together with the cold, deliciously flavored ice cream. Make sure not to spend too long snapping pics because the ice cream melts fast and will easily drip through the bottom of the paper cone. In addition, although we did not notice this initially, there is an offer through Yelp for 10% off your first order which can be texted to you. Make sure to take advantage of it to save some $!

Mia L.

Yelp
Their egg waffles are so good! Also love their earl grey affogato. But their drinks are not worth it. Their matcha tastes very dull and both look and taste low-quality. Their gadani black milk tea, which is highly recommended by the owner, is sooo mid, you can make it better by combing black tea and milk at home. Their drinks are waste of money. And the male worker is very irresponsible, was on the phone the whole time we were there and didn't bother to answer any questions because he is busy talking over the phone.
google avatar

Foofa B.

Yelp
Lovely little place to stop by for a scoop or two of delicious flavoured ice creams, scrumptious bubble waffles and hot drinks. Just wish they had restrooms to freshen up and clean up, especially in this day and age.

Yelp
**DISCLAIMER: PRE-COVID review. Gadani is very cute and aesthetically pleasing to dine in with great vibes. The dining area is limited but I do appreciate this place at least having some sort of seating area considering it is small. You can either do the bar stool area or sit at a table. I do get the concept of this place and their crepe's are definitely yummy but for some reason I still did not feel WOW'ed. Whenever I come across this feeling I rate the place as A-OK and a balance of neither horrible or fully AMAZING. My bf and I tried satisfying our sweet tooth with a Matcha Eggpuff crepe with Ube Ice cream, Red Beans and Whip cream for topping. I'll give this an overall 6 out of 10 rating!
google avatar

Lawrence C.

Yelp
My first impression when I first entered this dessert store was that the interior was decorated super vibrantly! With one of the walls entirely covered with greenery and cute nature decorations all around the store, Gadani definitely is an aesthetic environment that has a great vibe. The staff there also were really cheerful and welcoming, as they were very helpful when we were selecting our flavors for the ice cream. I think that the egg puff they serve with the ice cream is pretty unique around this area, since I haven't seen it at any other places around the Berkeley area at least. We got the chocolate egg puff--which was warm and crispy--and it contrasted well with the coldness of the ice cream that was served! We got the cookies and creme ice cream with chocolate sauce drizzled on top, which made it really sweet and tasty! The ice cream was pretty smooth, and overall the presentation of the dessert was very nice! I think that this dessert place isn't talked about as much around Berkeley, and so I think that more people should really come here and check it out! It can be easy to overlook, so you kind of have to search for it though.
google avatar

Julia L.

Yelp
I finally got to check out what the hype is all about at Gadani! I like their simple menu and the option of customizing your desserts, especially with building your own ice cream egg waffle. They also offer just ice cream desserts, as well as lattes, espressos, and teas. The boyfriend and I ordered a Matcha Egg Waffle with a scoop of Ube ice cream. We topped it off with a wafer and Oreo crumbs. The egg waffle itself was delicious! It was crispy and golden on the outside, and soft and chewy in the inside. Sadly, I couldn't taste the Matcha, but it was still good. The Ube ice cream was yummy, as well and the toppings were a nice touch. The shop is cute with the greenery decor. However, there is very limited indoor seating available. It's more of an order-and-go kind of spot. Staff was chill and the service was average. Parking is slightly difficult as it is in the heart of Downtown Berkeley, but all in all Gadani is worth the try!
google avatar

Rachel P.

Yelp
This place was so good! It was the perfect dessert! My fiance ordered the banana chocolate (I think) waffle with coffee ice cream, condensed milk and oreo cookie crumbles. He was in heaven. I ordered the strawberry chocolate waffle with matcha ice cream with matcha powder, but it was brown so maybe it was something else? It's ok cuz we loved our treats. The lady helping us was super nice. We also used the kiosk to order and it was very easy to use.
google avatar

Bri D.

Yelp
This was a lovely ice cream shop that specializes in the egg waffles! The egg waffles are so tasty and add so much to the traditional ice cream. They have different kinds of egg waffle flavors to choose from too. I enjoy the classic version but they have churro, chocolate, and more! Their ice cream is really good and they have some unique flavors. We chose heaven which has vanilla base, chocolate, peanut butter, and I think caramel too. It was rich and just paired beautifully with condensed milk topping and waffle. You've got to try the egg waffles! They will change your idea of a waffle cone.
google avatar

Dario O.

Yelp
First time eating ice cream with an egg waffle! But not just anyyyy egg waffle, it was a CHOCOLATE STRAWBERRY egg waffle! Anyway, you're able to choose one flavor ice cream of your choice and if you're feeling bold, you can add an extra scoop for a whopping $2 more (which I think is fashooo worth it). Once you choose your ice cream, you can pick a variety of two complimentary toppings. We decided to go with the Pecan Butter ice cream with condensed milk and rose petals. This specific combo with the choc/strawberry egg waffle was perfection! They have plenty of choices with how to make your egg waffle ice cream, so let your imagination run wild. They do have lattes and tea but majority of the guests ordered the dessert. As far as the inside goes, the line can get pretty long depending on what people order and there isn't much space to wait around. However, they do have small tables and chairs outside if you don't get lucky on finding a spot to sit inside. We waited for about 10-15ish minutes which wasn't bad. Overalllll, do I recommend this nice little ice cream spot? Answer, hells yes. Oh.. and when you order your egg waffle with ice cream, make sure you hold the bottom with a napkin unless you want melted ice cream on your lap. Enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
Aesthetically pleasing and delicious dessert spot! I used to frequent Gadani all the time as a student at Berkeley. Their desserts were fairly priced for the amount of food you get in the waffle + ice cream combo, and really tasty. The banana chip waffle is crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and easily able to break off circle by circle. The ice cream is not too sweet or heavy, but soft and silky. I personally always chose rose petals as a topping for the olfactory pleasantry and the aesthetic preference. The drinks here are good too, and complement the desserts. The rose latte is very floral and hearty. Two can share a single waffle + ice cream combo. Gadani makes for a great dessert spot for a date!
google avatar

Ishita R.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite dessert places in berkeley! Their waffle cones are so aesthetic and delicious. They're made super fresh and paired well with the ingredients, I got the rose petals topping--I recommend!!

Yelp
We came in for quick order using the tablet inside. It was a little wait after ordered because it was only one person working. Food: double chocolate egg waffle is what we had got. It came out pipping hot and fresh in a paper bag. My DD finished at no time. Chewy style not crunchy that we prefer. Price: $5 for a waffle. I consider high.
google avatar

Tiffany F.

Yelp
3.5, an okay place for egg waffles + ice cream Unfortunately, I'm from HK so my taste buds can taste whether or not the egg waffles are good/authentic. From *my experiences*, the egg waffles are lacking in flavor in comparison to authentic HK egg waffles bc there's no distinctive egg aroma. Softens quickly as well (eat fast). Good egg waffles are supposed to be crunchy on the outside & soft on the inside...the egg waffles from here all crunchy all around :( It's a bit disappointing but not horrible. It will satisfy my cravings, but if I'm really craving for some good old waffles, then I head to Shooting Star (or visualize eating the real ones in my dreams). --egg waffles + ice cream combo: it's a lot for one person :) good but no wow factor as this combo is standard for many places --may adjust the flavor of egg waffles as needed (ie chocolate) ORDERING: Self-order kiosk. Wait outside, pick up time 10-15min. Be careful waiting outside at night.

Yelp
Instagrammable af, and tasty too! Expensive af too, but really not too much considering how expensive ***fancy*** ice cream/gelato is in the area. More importantly, these are the only egg waffles in the area, so I'm glad they moved in. Besides the ice cream waffles, they also sell drinks, but I'd probably avoid them unless you really need the gram.
