13 Rib-Sticking Southern Comfort Breakfasts in Los Angeles - Eater LA

"There’s no harder-working spot for breakfast in greater Los Angeles than this historic longshoreman’s diner just off the docks. That’s the vibe at Gaffy St. Diner in San Pedro, where big-plate breakfasts with all the hearty country trappings can be had for a song." - Eater Staff

LA’s Hawaiian Fusion Pop-Up Runs Out of a San Pedro Longshoreman’s Diner - Eater LA

"In San Pedro, that curiosity could lead one to the longstanding Gaffey Street Diner, hugging the northern edge of the peninsula just as it dumps drivers off from the terminus of the 110 Freeway. It’s a clogged arterial that lacks the seaside charm of much of the rest of the community, but inside this longshoreman’s breakfast enclave hides what may be the South Bay’s most inventive new pop-up in ages." - Farley Elliott

Wow, what a fun experience! We were driving by and looking for a quick breakfast. We found it. Parking was easy because they have their own parking lot. My friend ordered the John Wayne breakfast. It looked amazing and he said it was fantastic. I ordered an chorizo omelette. They make the chorizo on-site and it showed. I didn't get potatoes and requested tomatoes. My meal came with a biscuit the size of a salad plate. What really made the visit special is that the cook and waitress were so nice. I hope to go back when in town.

I haven't been here in almost a decade. I liked the new floor plan. The food wasn't what I remembered it to be. When we did receive our food no one brought us condiments and we had to wait several minutes to be noticed while the food was getting cold. In addition, I asked for the home fries to be well done, but instead it was an over-seasoned mush. Needless to say I didn't eat it. The eggs were okay, I like them light and fluffy, and these were slightly overcooked and folded. I didn't like sausage patties, because I thought they would be sausage shaped; it makes a difference in taste. The only saving grace was my friends Portuguese sausage which was good. The English muffins were cooked perfection. I really wanted to like this place. I'll give them another chance and update my review accordingly.

Nice little Port of Los Angeles breakfast place. Old school style.

Amazing food! Classic diner feel. Not really that much to look at, but the service is friendly and the food is more than worth it. I will definitely be back here for more tasty goodness. The decor is pleasant and very ocean/sailing themed. You can tell the place has been there a whole, which gives it a little bit of a dated look. Clean though. The coffee is good. This is a fantastic breakfast spot.

Small business with friendly servers. Food was really good, took a while but worth the home cook meal. The chicken nuggets on the kids menu is enough to share for 2 kids & was so delicious!! You could tell they were NOT the frozen type of chicken nuggets. Even use adults loved the flavors of the chicken nuggets.

The employee's are nice but the food is horrible. The food lacks flavor and not cooked to order. We ate the John Wayne breakfast because we were told it was delicious. However, it was soggy and looked like throw up because salsa covered the entire dish. They need to hire a chief who knows how to cook properly and present food. My family will never eat there again. It was a waste of money.

The food was delicious and the portions were filling. This place though gets its 5 stars because their service goes above and beyond. We went there this morning and the server overheard us taking about the hotel we were staying at and asked what brought us to town. We told her we had come for a funeral and she went around the table giving each of us hugs and went out of her way to make sure our mother was okay since she was taking it hardest. She made the day so much better for us and there is no way we could ever thank her enough. That level of service is hard to find.
