Delicious Thai-style chicken with bold flavors! Stopped by Gai Chicken & Rice for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The grilled chicken was juicy and nicely charred, paired with fluffy ginger rice, fresh cucumbers, sweet corn, and cherry tomatoes. The green chili sauce packed a punch and tied everything together beautifully. I also appreciated the side of clear soup—it balanced out the richness of the meal. Portions were decent for a quick meal, though I wouldn’t have minded a bit more chicken for the price. Service was quick and smooth, and the food was ready within minutes. Definitely a great grab-and-go spot near Fulton St! Would return again for the crispy chicken next time. 🍗🔥

Food was good enough. But my major issue is that I ordered a meal through Ubereats, and there they have a fake store called Gai Tender with the same address and menu. I bought from them and went to the store to pick up to food to find out that they dont have it. It seems like it’s happened to this place before. I don’t want to make an assumption but I hope that this place didnt set up a ghost restaurant to scam people on the side.

My first time trying. Ordered the Spicy fried chicken over rice and a side of spicy fried chicken😁. Definitely worth coming back. Only 2 small tables for a quick meal, it is actually a take away store.

The food was really good! I got the steamed chicken with dark meat and green sauce. I got it with tomatoes, cucumbers, and corn. I got fried chicken to the side and the total was $20. The flavors were really good. Unfortunately, they didn’t give me soup even though it was supposed to come with soup. They also didn’t give me the sauce that the fried chicken was supposed to come with. I was very disappointed by that, I should have definitely checked the bag sooner :/ I also wish this location served thai iced tea. I still recommend and will be back!

Good chicken! You order at the kiosk and you can watch them make the chicken in front of you. The spicy chicken wasn’t that spicy. We really liked the ginger sauce. Would come back again!

Sorry. It is a no for me .I tried three different items and I didn't like it. The chicken wings were the worse. The wings had a horrible after taste as though they were old. Possibly freezer burn. Two wing and a half cooked wings and high sodium rice. No. I tried the steamed chicken and there were feather caps still on my chicken. I almost threw up I give this place six months. The food is not appealing. I miss Bennie's Thai restaurant. There steam chicken and rice with fish sauce on the side was delicious.

What's the difference between Singaporean chicken and rice versus Thai chicken and rice? I'm not sure but it seemed like the Thai version doesn't include soup which is arguably my favorite part. Came to this location of Gai and I was surprised that it looked like a fast food restaurant on the inside with no bathroom. I feel like the Midtown location's vibe feels a lot better. I ordered the fried chicken platter and it gave me no way to customize the order as the sides came with corn and tomatoes which I thought was a bit strange. I appreciated how much chicken it came with as after finishing the bowl, I was extremely full. I did wish the chicken had a bit more flavor to it. The rice was also quite flavorful. I feel like Gai Chicken & Rice is very much a mid-day corporate lunch situation and I'm not sure how it is in terms of dinner meal.

Need a quick bites but didn't want fast food. Gai chicken and rice came to the rescue. From easy ordering on the station to a quick pick up within 5 mins and to a tasty food on a very cold day in the city. Not much space, about 2 sets of tables and counter and to the right of the door are the station to place your order. Overall if you want quick service and decent food, stop by. FYI be considerate and make sure you close the door on the way out, especially on a very very cold December! :)

I got a steamed chicken platter with ginger rice, roast chicken platter with mashed potatoes, and a side of spicy fried chicken. The best cuts were the roast chicken and the spicy fried chicken. The roast chicken came with a green sauce that's spicy and tangy, which I really enjoyed! The sauce was the saving grace of the meal. It took it from 2/5 to 3.75/5. The spicy fried chicken was standard and anything fried is good in my opinion, paired it with the green sauce and it was yummy! The roast chicken came with mashed potatoes which reminded me of instant mashed potatoes, which I like. The steamed chicken with ginger rice was a let down. The chicken was dry and even the green sauce couldn't save it. The orange sauce that came with it did help. The rice was bland and had very faint flavor of ginger. The soup that came with the platter was also bland and tasted like black pepper water. The portion does not come with nearly enough chicken, I would recommend getting a platter and a side of chicken to have a decent sized meal. I would come back and reorder the roast or fried chicken if I need to get food asap and in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to get it:

Food is okay but the portion size is super questionable. It's literally greens and sauce that takes up the other half of the tray. Not impressed considering all the fast food/take out options in FiDi

The food is always good here. It's the service is horrible that's why I stop coming in here for a while. The last time I was here the employee put my food to go instead of staying. I ordered today and I waited another 10-14 mins for an employee to make my food.

All of the chicken options at Gai Chicken Rice- toasted, steamed, and fried- are good, but I like the roasted best (and my dog loves the skin). The ginger rice is fragrant and flavorful, and I love the spicy green and spicy mayo sauces in particular. The portion size is good, especially for the price point, but if you're very hungry an extra side of chicken or rice might be in order. There are a lot of Hainanese chicken/rice shops to choose from in lower Manhattan but this is one of my favorites.

I have tried their roasted, steamed, and fried-chicken. My favorite is their fried chicken. Food is always fresh and wait is not too long. My only complaint is their portion size. For the cost, I expected more food. Half the tray is taken up by sauce and white rice. There are a few seats in the store if you want to eat there.

Two pcs of chicken wings and one side order it costs $23. It's so not worth it. The most expensive chicken wing I ever had. . Nothing special about the Chicken wing. The flavors are only on the outside, and inside are bit dry. It is just plain chicken wing dip on the sauce and charge $10 for it.

Many options of chicken platters to choose from. Usually get the white meat chicken and what's good about it is that it comes with a free soup. The free soup has a hint of spice to add in the extra flavor to make it spicy. The white meat is tender and very fresh and comes along with white rice and ginger sauce. Very healthy. Seating is kind of limited and only has two tall tables with some tall chairs because it's a small shop. Ordering can be done either in person or the 2 kiosks that they have available.

I've heard about this spot opening up walking distance from the job. When I arrived, there was only one person behind the counter who was cooking, prepping, and taking online orders. The ambiance was more of a take out feel with a few areas for sitting. The portion was perfect because I devoured this whole dish, especially since the chicken was fresh and crispy. I'd definitely return to taste more of the dishes as I learned that there are two other locations throughout Manhattan.

Oh my God, do you see these portions? They are so much smaller than it was a a month ago. I cannot believe how small this portion is it's ridiculous. Done with this place.

Honestly really good food and a healthier option for a quick meal! I love the Roasted Chicken Bowl for a lighter option while in a time crunch. The chicken is juicy and tender and the sauce it comes with is so delicious. I love the spice level and flavors. I went once and received some coupons, but the code doesn't work on the website and they weren't redeemable with a card payment, which was kind of disappointing. The staff was friendly enough when mentioning their policies and helping though, so it wasn't too bad.

I visited the restaurant with a MealPal, which was for a Roasted Chicken Bowl. It was super quick to go in and grab the meal, which was already pre-packaged and warm. It didn't feel or taste 'old' which is a natural concern when you get something packaged like that. The food itself, although doesn't look the most appetizing, is actually pretty yummy and the portions are great, almost a little too heavy. The sauce it came with is very gingery so don't be too heavy handed with it, but it does taste good. All in all, I'm really happy with my experience and look forward to trying more menu items.

Wanted to love it, since the main event food wise should be fairly simple, but overall it was just ok. Maybe just above ok if you really have a desperate hankering for some Hainan style chicken. Staff was friendly and while I would not recommend dining in the way I did (ducked in quickly for lunch and it was like eating in a bank or drugstore) I could see myself giving them another try for takeout. But, I mean Chinatown is a ten minute walk away...

Stopped by with a friend on a Sunday afternoon at 5p, I ordered the fried chicken bowl and friend ordered roasted chicken with truffle Parmesan fries. We initially wanted to eat at the store, but even though there were seats, it was SWELTERING inside, barely any air circulation; it was probably mid 60s fall weather outside, and the air was cooler outside than inside the store- worked up a sweat just waiting for our food. No idea how the store employees were able to work under those conditions. We ended up eating at benches in a nearby public seating plaza. Thought my rice was a bit dry, fried chicken had way too much batter and was also a bit dry. The meal came with a small container of clear vegetarian soup broth- thought it was a bit bland. Definitely not as good as the midtown location- not sure if they were having an off day. Total for my bowl after tax came out to $14.10, which isn't exactly cheap or value given the amount and average quality. Friend says his roasted chicken was also very dry, but the fries were good. Can't really comment on the service - we ordered our food at the kiosks by the door, then waited maybe 10 minutes before they called us. Probably unlikely I'll be swinging by this particular store in the near future.

I was so excited to see this store open up since I've been to their location in midtown many times before and loved it. However, this location has a lot of improvements that needs to be made. The first time I tried to go here during the afternoon on a weekday, they completely ran out of food and were waiting for ingredients to be delivered. Tried to go here a second time at night on a different day and placed my order on the kiosks. The portion was so small and there were very little chicken for the roasted chicken box. Rice was very hard and undercooked. They also told me they were out of soup when they handed me my order but didn't provide anything to substitute for it, nor did they notify us before we placed our order. Had high hopes for this place but was left disappointed. Will not be coming back.

Solid place for a quick Thai comfort meal! I had just landed in NYC and was starving. It was 11am, and so I quickly looked on yelp for something to eat and this place was open. I ordered the spicy fried chicken set. The food took about 10 minutes or so to prepare. I asked to eat in the restaurant and they were very accommodating... grabbed utensils and napkins and placed my meal at an open seat near the window. The meal came with a small side salad and soup broth (which is just like we serve in Thailand). The chicken was very tasty and for the price was really shocked to see how much chicken there was... really happy and can't complain! Next time I would opt for the traditional set only because I felt like the spicy sauce was more like a seafood spicy sauce, but overall so good and would totally return on a future trip to NYC!

New Thai chicken/fried chicken spot in FiDi. Stopped by recently to pick up food for lunch on a weekday and it was pretty busy around 1pm. I walked up to the register to pick up my order and waited about a minute before anyone acknowledged me, everyone who was working there was preoccupied. They seemed a little short staffed to handle the weekday lunch crowd. For those coming in to order food, they do have a couple of self-serve kiosks on the left when you walk in. I ordered the crispy chicken over garlic which came with a small side salad and a Thai chili dipping sauce. The chicken itself was tasty, however the skin was a little hard and chewy, not as crispy as I expected. The flavor of the rice was good but it was a little too over cooked for my liking. Was very excited to try this place but was not impressed by what I ordered. Service was friendly but a bit slow. Will probably return to give them a second chance and to try some of their other menu items after they've had some time to work out the kinks.

Unfortunately, I was given the wrong order... I should have checked my food before I left... but I was the only customer.... I was there over ten minutes... no one else entered. Didn't think I should have to check my food... lesson learned. The food is excessively pepper hot. There should be levels to this.. we all like a little kick... but this right here... is CRAY CRAY. I ordered the sticky tenders with rice and side of sweet chilli sauce. I received chicken wings... I DO NOT EAT WINGS ...so I had to toss the protein.... I'm starving so I attempted to eat the rice and little side salad. At least the bottled Thai iced tea is delicious. Service was good, friendly employees. I'm sure they would have replaced my order if I would have spotted the error... It happens.... Will not go back unless I get a reward for a free meal. Jus sayin !

I was on my way home and noticed a new place to eat and when I saw it was Thai Chicken and Rice I was sooo excited. I've been to Thailand before and everywhere I ordered Fried Chicken they don't disappoint. So I was beyond when I saw there was a place in my neighborhood. The flavoring is good, Chicken was crispy and juicy, Rice was nicely flavored and not overcooked. I do assume that u have to eat this rarely quickly since u want to keep the crisp and I live really close by so I brought it home and opened the lid to air so it didn't get soggy. It is kinda pricey at $14+ after tax. But for a lunch that's not fast food in this area is probably abt the same. Is it as good as Thailand...probably not. But is it good for a place outside of Thailand that's pretty spot on...Yes!

I love this place. It's near impossible to find Thai fried chicken and steam rice and chicken. They do it solid here. They use the toast app a lot. The stereo system is dope too.

the fried chicken is good. the roast chicken was super dried out from sitting out so long. the people working there looked like they didn't want to be there. I got takeout and when i got home i found this string on my food. I wouldnt come back to risk it.

I've been on a strict diet for 3 weeks and I treated myself today with their spicy fried chicken with ginger rice. I legit cried. This was so good. Thank you so much. I wish nothing but the best for this establishment and the chef!!!!

Just order the spicy fried chicken bowl and the was just okay. The rice was very dry and you can barely taste the ginger rice. The salad was fresh. The flavoring on the chicken was good but the piece of chicken i got was so small you can see 60% of the rice and thats with the all the garlic crunch on top. Thats pretty disappointing. The "soup" it came with, forget about it. It literally was vegetable water with a hint of white pepper. Skip it! Don't waste the container. I also ordered the sticky wings. It was fried well and seasoned well but one of my wing was broken and a huge chunk was missing. Then it had feathers on it all fried in. I wonder if they washed it. Don't set your expectations too high for this place.

Great customer service. Very attentive staff. I asked for the sticky sauce for the tenders on the side and I am so grateful that I did. Understanding that the restaurant is Thai, I would understand fish sauce being used in the food but I found there to be a very overpowering fish sauce taste in the sticky sauce that accompanied the chicken tenders. There were four chicken tenders included in the order. I also ordered the zaab fries. The fries came with a spicy mayo. The mayo did not taste spicy at all. The fries were okay. They were covered in a chili-lime powder. I would go again to try either one of their chicken over rice dishes or their chicken salad.

I had a bad experience with a girl that works here on Fulton. I am going today @1115. I hope she's no longer working there. Very bad Customer Service I will give 3 stars because of her not the food

This is definitely a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The price, portion, and quality of the roasted chicken bowl I ordered was excellent. It was aromatic & moist with a mouthwatering balance of spicy and sour flavors. The complimentary soup also rounded out the meal nicely. I eagerly look forward to trying out the other items on their menu.

I got steamed chicken (dark meat) on rice. It was a very substantial portion. That was good. I also got a mushroom bowl and that needs work. It's made out of mostly mixed salad greens, Very little mushrooms, maybe just a spoonful- And it was completely dried up and hard from being in the warmer oven all day probably. It also comes with corn and baby tomatoes- And wish it came with more. Overall, proportions are 90% salad greens, 10% everything else. If it's called a mushroom bowl, it should be at least maybe 1/4 Mushroom?

Tried this place out cause their claim of bringing the exotic flavors of Bangkok to the U.S. peaked my curiosity. In reality, for $12.95, I got two small pieces of sliced fried chicken thighs that looked nothing like the generous portion in their picture. It came with a lot of rice, small side sald and a small container of a sweet chili sauce that tasted like every generic Asian bottled sauce I've ever had. Nothing exotic or even remotely Thai about it. Just generic fried chicken with a generic sauce. It was OK but just not a great value for what you get and not the type of experience they claimed they would deliver
