Tiny Portions, Overpriced, and Incredibly Loud
Tried Gaia Matbar with my partner today after hearing the name pop up a few times — and I seriously don’t get the hype.
We ordered several dishes: oysters, shrimp, oxtartar, and the so-called potato dish (Chile relleno). The portions? Absolutely tiny. The tartare cost 195 SEK, the potato dish 185 SEK — and both looked great in photos but tasted like nothing. Zero seasoning, zero satisfaction. These are dishes made for Instagram, and that’s where it ends.
The shrimp tasted like they came from a supermarket freezer, and the aioli had no flavor at all. My dish was supposed to be spicy — it wasn’t. The tartare was completely bland. For these prices, I expect at least some taste.
Portions are so small it's almost insulting. Even if we had ordered 3 mains each (as they recommend), we still would’ve walked out hungry. You’re basically paying fine-dining prices for bites that wouldn’t fill a child.
And the atmosphere? Honestly unbearable. The space is cramped and loud — you can hear every conversation from the tables next to you, and despite all that noise, they still blast music. We were seated right next to the dish return station, and the constant clatter of glasses from the dishwasher gave me a headache.
If you don’t believe me, just look at the photos I uploaded and judge for yourself. Pretty pictures, sure — but no substance behind them.
The only thing that worked? The staff. The servers were super friendly and professional despite the chaos and I give to our waiter 5 stars.
Would I come back? Absolutely not. One of the most overrated dining experiences for 1000kr bill I've had in Stockholm.
