Southern Cooking Done RIGHT at Gail’s Soul Food — Goose Creek, SC New guy in town looking for some real, signature Southern cooking. I needed a break from all that Texas BBQ and wanted some true soul food — the kind that feels like it came straight from someone’s grandmother’s kitchen. I started with Gail’s Soul Food, and let me tell you… I have zero regrets. Every bite was worth it. I showed up around 4:45 PM, just 15 minutes before closing. As soon as I walked in, the lady at the counter hit me with: “We ain’t frying nothing 10 minutes before we close.” No problem at all, ma’am — that line alone told me I was in the right place. I simply asked, “Alright then… what can I order?” I went with the smothered pork chops with rice and gravy, collard greens, green beans, and cabbage. BAM! Everything — and I mean everything — was excellent. The pork chops were tender, well-seasoned, with a nice touch of garlic and smothered perfectly in gravy. The collards were real collards, not canned (unlike too many places in Texas), and seasoned just right. The cabbage was flavorful, and the green beans were on point too. I also order a turkey wing smothered in gravy and it was also very tasty. The restaurant itself was clean, well-decorated, and welcoming. Even though they were about to close, the staff remained friendly, patient, and committed to giving me great service. That says a lot about their pride and professionalism. I truly enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, and the customer service. I’ll definitely be back to try a few more menu items before I head back to Texas. If you’re anywhere near Goose Creek and want real Southern comfort food done right, Gail’s Soul Food is a must-visit.

Soooo good! I had the fried pork chop, greens and yams. My husband had the pork chops with gravy, Mac n cheese, greens, the white rice and gravy. The key lime pound cake! And we had the spring rolls with collard greens, turkey and cabbage in it. Our first time having those, really good! We met the owner who was cooking. Nice guy. The next time we’re in in SC, we will definitely stop by Gail’s’ Soul Food again!

Google
Nice restaurant. Good soul food. They forgot my cornbread though and I really wanted it to. I didn't realize it until I had already gotten home in Summerville. That and my rice was a little mushy were my only two complaints.

Google
The food has been so good in the past, but I ordered delivery tonight and after 90 min and two drivers tapped out, the food was STILL not ready. Sorry but I'm canceling and will NOT order nor refer any of my friends again. Good Luck for you. And for good measure, ordered the 2 pork chop meal....looks great doesn't it! Well the next day they made it good by remaking the order. I got to enjoy the food in the end. Everyone has a bad day, I hope it's not a trend. I'll try them again, so we will see.

Google
This was my first time here! I always kept saying, “ I should go”. Well, I was not disappointed at all!! I got the special, Baked Pork Chops with rice & gravy with a side of collard greens. Everything was on point!! You won’t be disappointed here. It’s always the little unknown spots that show up and show out!! Looks like they are open Wednesday-Sunday 11-9.Pictures exclude address and phone. My server, Niah, was the best!! She kept checking on me and called me by my name…..breath of fresh air. Made it more enjoyable. She made me feel like someone, not just another customer. I WILL BE BACK! Tell all your friends! Prices are good too!

I thoroughly enjoy Gail’s Soul Food every time I come to Charleston. Unfortunately, my last visit was for a funeral. Thank you so much for the delicious food you catered for my sister Tanya and her family. I thoroughly enjoy Gail's Soul Food every time I come to Charleston. Unfortunately, my last visit was for a funeral. Thank you so much for the delicious food you catered for my sister Tanya and her family. I was responsible for coordinating the repast, and DJ was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was caring and made the entire process seamless. The food was delicious, the customer service was excellent, and the cost was very reasonable. Thank you for providing both the main dishes and the special request meals for guests with food allergies. During a very difficult time, your care and professionalism made things a little easier for the family.

Google
I really dont leave reviews, but Gails Soulfood honestly deseres one. I went for my first time last night and it was amazing! The food isnt just good, its comfort! The fried chicken was golden and seasoned just right and the meatload was so full of flavor! The yams was sweet and the mac was creamy and rich! What really makes it special though is the warmth - everyone makes you feel so welcomed and they are so nice and attentive! And the price is so reasonable. I will be back today!!!

Google
First time eating here. Placed an order for pickup. It was ready before the expected time. Top three macaroni and cheese I've ever had. Genuinely friendly staff, swift service, and juicy fried chicken. What more could you ask for?

Yelp
The Fried chicken was Hot and fresh, green beans were nicely cooked but a little too salty for my taste. Lots of food for the price. Little mom and pop restaurants in Berkeley Square. Food serves was quick and friendly.

Yelp
I've been wanting to go here for a while and I finally made it. I had a little trouble finding it, but it's in the plaza across from the Dollar General on the corner. It's definitely a diner feel inside. The drinks were so good. The cornbread is cake like and sweet. I didn't care for the Mac & cheese. It tasted like they used mayo and too much of it. The yams were basic. I ordered cake, but they didn't have any that day. They did offer me additional sides to make up for it which is great customer service. Now, for the stars of the show...the chicken and fish were delicious. Well-seasoned and still crispy when I got home. I would go back just for those...and the drinks. I ordered mine online which was convenient. Go & check them out!

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoy Gail's Soul Food every time I visit Charleston. The food is consistently delicious, the customer service is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. The chicken and fish are seasoned to perfection; the red rice, mac and cheese are absolutely amazing. Gail's Soul Food never disappoints and is always a must-stop when I'm in town.

Yelp
First time here. Everything was nicely seasoned with healthy portion sizes. Pork chop needed less oil. Waitress was very friendly. Looking forward to the next time.

Mary D.

Yelp
Another first timer. Wanted to taste a few things. Food was very appealing and tasty. Nothing was too seasoned, which I liked and appreciated, but it was all tasty. Chop was a good size as were the wings. Ordered enough for at least three meals, which was the plan. Good job Miss Gail, thanks
google avatar

Bionca W.

Yelp
The service was friendly I actually called-in before placing an online order and they answered all pesky question. I ordered a few meals for different people so I cannot personally judge all the food but the reason for 4 stars instead of three was because one of the meals contains rice was said to "mushy". But I had fried chicken wings which were crunch and quality size and seasoned good and so was their Gail sauce. The baked chicken was cooked and seasoned good as well but the sweet potatoes were cooked a bit different to my liking but everyone else loved the meals overall and this place is definitely worth a try.

Yelp
Get u sum. Best Soul food in 20 miles. Delivery is awesome and Meatloaf Special is PHENOMENAL. (but you can't go wrong with anything)

Lillian G.

Yelp
I wanna start off with positives! Service was good, very nice and polite! As far as food goes nothing was inedible, but nothing was so amazing that I can't wait to come back. Everything needs a serious seasoning. Collards to me shouldn't be sweet. Maybe some people like it that way ‍. Mac and cheese wasn't very good in my opinion, it wasn't cheesy and needed seasoning as well. Now the fired shrimp that was pretty good! Def ate the food but def wasn't scraping the plate clean.

Ta-Chana M.

Yelp
Y'all really have to work on paying attention to details when packing customer's orders. I've ordered from Gail's 4 times since moving to the area. 3 of those 4 times, I've had missing items. Once I ordered and I picked up in person and was able to go back in and ask about my missing items and I was told that they were out of them and that's why I didn't get them.... Never mind that I paid extra for them or to maybe even ask if I wanted something else...it was just an "Oh Well" type of reply. I had to ask for my money back. Now tonight, I ordered thru Uber Eats and I should've known it would've been more of the same. I'm missing my cornbread(not the first time). I'm sure they were out but they have the option to contact the customer and should have and asked if I wanted something else or my money back but they didn't. They just sent it on to be picked up and delivered smh. It's other soul food restaurants in the area. I'll move on to one of them.

Yelp
Pick up lunch from here today & it was SO GOOD!! I just felt like some fried fish so I ordered that & those soul rolls!!! OMG they were soooo good! Perfect combination!!
google avatar

Savonn N.

Yelp
Ordered from Uber eats and it was fresh chicken was well seasoned Macaroni was good yams was ok but I like mine really sweet (still doable), but everyone likes them a certain way you can't please everyone! I would give a 4 stars because of yams but the rating of the restaurant would be lower and that's not fair because the main characters were good!

Yelp
I had no idea what to do for dinner this chilly evening but spotted this place on Ubereats and the fried fish Friday special struck hubby's fancy. We're always down for some good home-cooking and that's exactly what we got! The fish was catfish, with an excellently seasoned breading and not too fishy. The mac'n'cheese was better than most but not as good as homemade. The gravy was delectable on the rice and the chicken. The chicken was fried with nice crunchy coating that was perfectly seasoned. It was still sizzling and melted the top of the Styrofoam container, so I broke that part of the crust off LOL The leg and thigh were juicy and delicious. Fried chicken like my Daddy used to make. The cabbage was mild and not at all skunky. Nice pieces of pork in there added some salty richness. The glory here are the collards! They are legit: tender but not limp, packed with big flavor just like your Southern Grandma made em, rich pot likker waiting for me to finish it up with the cornbread. I wanted hummingbird cake but they only had red velvet and lemon velvet. The lemon is tangy, with tart-sweet whipped frosting. It's incredibly moist and fresh. The punch is super-sweet and Kool--Aidy. The flavor is like a strawberry mango with maybe lemonade. It's a tasty treat reminiscent of supper at Granny's. This is a wonderful authentic soul food joint, and I will need these collards on a regular basis!

Driven B.

Yelp
All I can say is WOW!! Small friendly place, server was attentive and double checked our order. We ordered the green beans and cornbread but unfortunately they were out so we selected red rice, collards and Mac and cheese. We both ordered the meatloaf which was a generous portion I got the cabbage, collards and red rice. My wife got the Mac and cheese, white rice. Everything came out hot and plenty of flavor. Our server, Nakailah, did a great job. We will definitely return. Check them out. They also cater.

Yelp
First time visiting. Visited with a large group of my Sorority Sisters. The food was excellent. The service was great. We knew it would take a while because our party was large. There is so much on the menu that I want to go back and try. Will definitely be visiting again. I had the fried pork chop, red rice, & green beans. They apparently only have red rice on the weekend. That's good to know because I love red rice. Everyone in our party was satisfied with their meals

Samuel N.

Yelp
I had the Gail's pork chop with the Gail's fruit punch. 10/10 I will get that again. The pork chop was fried to perfection and I need a gallon or two of that fruit punch.

NaeNae W.

Yelp
I must've got them on a bad day. Ordered through Ubereats so of course everything was increased. Spent over $50 and was very upset when I got my food delivered. Didn't receive the $5 LARGE drink, the $7 LARGE Mac and cheese, AND two Gail sauces I bought additionally. Than to top it off didn't get any Gail sauce with my "Gail's wings" so just regular fried chicken and no sauce with my fried fish and of course after contacting ubereats they're not refunding me for NOTHING. So I'm just out my almost $15. NEVER will be ordering through ubereats again, if you going to charge extra at least make sure everything in the bag!

Zahrea W.

Yelp
So freaking good!!!! I just moved here from Miami 2months ago. This is the best soul food I've had since I've been here. Turkey wing was underrated. can't wait to go back!!!

Monique S.

Yelp
I ordered food thru Uber Eats. The was $78 and it was trash it was leftover food. Chicken smelled burnt the turkey wings was white hard and gravy or onion or peppers. The Lima beans had not meat and dry. The veggie plate has leak yams sauce on everything macaroni and cheese was old the cheese was brown. And my food was not sealed properly that it could be easy tamper with I will never eat there again.....

Yelp
Too much pepper and dry chicken .. the mac and cheese had too much pepper and wasn't enough cheese

Yelp
We were visiting this area on Saturday August 27th 2022 and googled soul food restaurants and Gail's was the closest. I just.... First thing is the menu near the trash can was updated and the only one we saw. The total cost for two meals( a veggie plate,& turkey wing with two veggies and a tea) was $35. After we left we obviously thought how overpriced it was. We didn't get cornbread because it is not the included with the meal . I ordered rice with gravy, cabbage, and yams. The cabbage was very good however the rice was undercooked and crunchy, the yams was soup with one large undercooked yam. The turkey wing was tough and had to be cut with a knife. The tea was good but they were out of bottled water. I am uploading a picture.

Katrina ..

Yelp
The best I can say the food was hot. The chicken fried in old oil. The rice taste was very bland The Cabbage over cooked and I did not get my side of sweet potatoes. Don't feel like I mi@ed much. Keep the $3. I hate to do this but you can not take people money and just give them anything.

Yelp
In town for work and looking for something with flavor and healthy...now soul food doesn't always fall into the healthy bracket but certainly flavor...all sorts of well cooked veggies though, that I know! This place did not disappoint! The service was fantastic, just a small place in a strip mall but super friendly and personable ! I tried the Seafood salad and the butter beans with Rice! for a drink I tried the sweet-tea! Not really a sweet-tea guy, prefer something unsweetened but figured "when in Rome"..side note; absolutely fantastic sweet-tea...by far the best I have ever tasted! The Seafood salad was also perhaps the best I have ever had. Tons of seafood, perfect balance of seafood and seasoning! Way better than I was expecting and I had my hopes high! The butterbeans and rice were also out of this world! Soft delicate flavor, warm and earthy beans, perfectly balanced! my only beef was that they were in plastic dishes and I am not a plastic guy! But I am sure with Covid and all the difficulties this is what they were doing. the most important thing is the food was amazing! A must try when in the area. Good food like this in any market is not a given! KT

Penny A.

Yelp
I had to try this restaurant a second time because the first time was a complete failure. As fait would have it, the second time was even worse. The fish was burnt and greasy. Tasted like it was fried in old oil. The rice and gravy was bland and the yams was ok but very sweet. I wish them much success but I won't be back.
google avatar

Ayishia P.

Yelp
When this place is good, it's good! but when it's bad it's infinitely WORSE!!! Like waking up at 5am to puke your brains out worse. Never IN MY LIFE have I experienced such a horrible and violent case of food poisoning (after eating there on 10/12/23). I had the fish, cabbage, rice and gravy, and yams. Even my dog is sick. There must be a multitude of health code violations going on in this kitchen!! After mostly enjoying this place for months, I will NEVER be back!!
google avatar

Yelp
Gail's Soul Food is conveniently located in the heart of Goose Creek. The food is delicious. The restaurant is clean and the service is excellent. Your palate will love this restaurant!

Yelp
I was ready to give five stars and just speak on some of the things I didn't like but give five stars for support. I want black businesses to win. But after reading the reviews HELL NAH!! They are extremely overpriced for this basic food. It's not even that good. And while I was in there I saw a little friend walking across the floor. Not my friend. yours. Lol. When I saw the price and my food I made eye contact with him like are you crazy. But I was there to support and eat good. I'm assuming they figured they're the only soul food on the side and that's the reason for the high prices. My macaroni was terrible. The whole top layer was over burnt. They have a sauce that goes with the wings I think they call it Gale sauce. It was pretty good. Chicken was pretty good but not worth the price. And as I peek through the kitchen I don't like that chicken set up. Doesn't look too sanitary. Their food is basic at best. When I was leaving the guy from the back did come out with some piping hot water to mop the floors. Didn't start roaches from walking though. The wings were season pretty good and well sized. By super expensive. I probably won't be back. Good luck though. Order ahead of time they take a minute.

Si S.

Yelp
The food was really good, one complaint everything had a very high salt content. If they use 1/3 less salt it would be a 5 star the side (string beans and collards were way too salty couldn't eat it.) the turkey wing was delicious. The bake chicken was good but the top was dry it wasn't flipped to keep both sides moist. The rice and gravy were also good. I would give 3.5 stars but I rounded up!
google avatar

Crystal A.

Yelp
I really wanted to support this restaurant but the vegetables (collard greens and cabbage) were so salty that I couldn't eat it. The fried chicken wings were delicious. The restaurant was packed and I waited over 30 minutes for my order. The young men at the counter apologized for the wait. It's a good location in Goose Creek with music playing. I probably won't return unfortunately.

Carzenia B.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of dining in Gail's Soul Food. The food is delicious, the portion size is very good and the prices are reasonable. You will not regret ordering a meal from Gail's Soul Food in Goose creek. Enjoy

Yelp
My favorite soul food spot moving forward. So walked in was greeted immediately. Placed order and it was ready ten mins later. When I tell you the seasoning was spot on it was. I ordered the fry fish and red rice with Mac n cheese. I ordered hubby the Gail wings also side of seafood salad and candy yams. I tried everything and it all was really great. I would definitely recommend this spot to everyone to try it.

Siriah M.

Yelp
My husband and I had the chance to try Gail's Soul Food in their Daniel Island location and it was sooo good. I had the baked chicken meal and my husband had the turkey wings. Authentic soul food! If sides are your thing I highly recommend the Mac and Cheese. And they do not skimp on the portions.

David R.

Yelp
This is real deal soul food in the tradition of the now closed Martha Lou's in downtown Charleston. Loved the fried pork chops, rice and gravy, and collards. Don't forget the cake. 5 stars

Sandra S.

Yelp
This was my first time eating in this establishment call Gail's so they don't have to worry I will not be back due to the fact that the was unappealing so I ordered first I ordered meatloaf with gravy, sweet potatoes, collard greens for one thing that didn't match most people get meatloaf, gravy, mashed potatoes and corn in a hot roll or a dinner roll not at Gail's The menu was very unappealing. The food was salty. I got my food to go when I got home I tasted my food and it was salty as hell if I had high blood pressure it would've sent me to the hospital. The meatloaf was dry even though they put gravy on it it was dry and then they give you the ass end of the meatloaf which was hard, you don't give nobody the ass end of the meatloaf unless they ask you for it and it look like dog food so I wasted my money, my gas in my time going to Gail's Soulfood. That is the only Soulfood restaurant that I know of and Goose Creek's area but they don't have to worry about me coming back, I give them a minus zero and that was being nice's that is my rating
google avatar

Stephanie V.

Yelp
Omg! True definition of down south home cooked soul food .. I can't wait to go back!!

Sammantha J.

Yelp
If you blink, you might miss this place. It is located in a good spot and primed for walk-in traffic. There are about 9-10 tables and simple decor. The place's namesake does come out to greet patrons so I thought that was a nice touch. I have eaten from here twice and to be honest, I'm not impressed. The Mac-n-cheese was good but different than what I'm used to. It wasn't as ooey and gooey the way I like it and I tasted some kind of herbs, which I'm not used to. The baked chicken was ok. It was a tad bit dry but definitely tasted better once I ate it with a bit of the gravy. I was not a fan of the cabbage but it could be due to the fact that I was not prepared for that flavor profile. I originally wanted yams but the person who bought me the food got my order wrong, so I will give the cabbage another shot. The yams were soooo good. The meatloaf was a nice thick slice but it was very hard to eat and I could not finish it. The meat tasted and felt almost fake?? I don't know if there was too much bread used or maybe the wrong meat-to-fat ratio but I just couldn't eat it. The seafood salad was really good. It had tuna, shrimp and imitation crab meat. The seasoning was really tasty and the pasta was cooked really well. The strawberry crunch cake/cheesecake was delicious. Tasty cheesecake nestled between 2 moist layers of strawberry cake. The big question is will I go back. And my answer is maybe. I do like to be fair and try more than one thing on a menu, especially since we all have different tastebuds. So I would like to try another menu entree item and I pray it is good. As of now, I've had better food from Alex's. If you're local, you know where I'm talking about.

Loretta Tisdale T.

Yelp
It was very tasty. The wings were fried to perfection and the rice and gravy was slamming. The food is very good.

Debbie D.

Yelp
Food and service were terrible. I will not eat here again and won't recommend. Gave 1 star because I had too.

Natasha G.

Yelp
Love the meatloaf, yams, greens and seafood salad. Oh, and let's not forget the fried fish special they have on Friday's!!! Will definitely be back!!!

Polo G.

Yelp
this was one of my worst experiences. i ordered the turkey wings, cabbage and mac & cheese after 2 bites, the whole plate went in trash! a waste of $$$$$$

Amanda P.

Yelp
The pineapple cake is one of the best! Super moist and delicious!!!!!! Definitely a must have!

Teddy B.

Yelp
I was in town from Chicago and stopped in......Love the food great friendly people!! Mos def WILL VISIT AGAIN!!

Dishon R.

Yelp
Delicious! I love the baked chicken tray with rice/gravy and cabbage. Has an amazing ethnic atomosphere that reminds me of eating at granny's house. Big portions and fresh food. My coworker brags about the seafood salad as well. Next item I'm trying.

Brooks G.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place, great food, awesome staff, and such a warm atmosphere! The entire experience is like being home with family & enjoying great food! I will definitely be in regularly!
