Galco's Soda Pop Stop – Los Angeles, California - Gastro Obscura

"In the age of globalization, when the long tentacles of Pepsi and Coca-Cola have touched even the most remote places in the world, Galco’s Soda Pop Stop is a unique place. It is a throwback to the age when every county had its own small soda manufacturer and every town its own beer brewery. This shop carries an immense variety of soda brands from all corners of the U.S., and as far away as Romania. Its catalog includes obscure, almost forgotten, old brands and imports available in only a few spots on the planet. Find flavors as strange as rose water and cucumber soda. The true treasure of this place is its owner, John F. Nese, a man who may be the world’s preeminent expert on matters of soda flavors. He can authoritatively explain why glass bottles are better than plastic ones and why Kosher for Passover Coca-Cola are superior to the normal variety. He stands always ready to suggest a new variety or flavor. Galco’s Soda Pop Stop offers online purchases with limited international delivery. None" - albinoflea, mbison, chasepopt, Avoiding Regret, icatsstaci, m mbison, davinwhite, k kelleytravels, Annetta Black, kelleytravels, Lampshade1660, stanestane

Great Place. You will find a huge selection of vintage bottled Sodas and a huge selection of vintage Candies. There is massive beer selection from all over the world. While you're there stop at their Deli for a sandwich as well. If you're looking for a hard to find drink you'll probably find it here.

This place is a craft soda lovers DREAM! Absolutely incredible selection to choose from- I love cherry soda and could not believe the amount of options I had to choose from. Even really niche ones, like Jones Bubblegum Soda- which I can never find in stores- they had in stock! The staff were also so incredibly lovely. There was an older gentleman- the owner I believe- who was actively helping bag orders and talking with customers. There was a young girl who unfortunately threw up all over the floor, and he got right to cleaning it up without missing a beat- I heard her vomit like, 4 aisles away and by time I made it over you’d never know it had happened. They were also very understanding to her/her family and didn’t make them feel bad. Really wanted to highlight the customer service there. And to top it off, he even walked me to my car and loaded my soda into my backseat for me!!! Just a lovely, lovely individual and interaction. The build your own soda aspect was also a delight, I originally went for that reason but as you can see by my cart…I quickly got distracted LOL. They also had a plethora of vintage candy options, so I brought some home to my parents (in their late 50’s/60’s) and it was a really cool way to learn more about their childhood as the candies brought back memories and stories I’d never heard before. Places like this are hard to come by. If you have even the slightest interest- GO. You will not regret it.

Love this place. Old school candies and sodas. Candies range from 2.09+ and the sodas 2.59+ Also they have a deli sandwich place. The pastrami sandwich was good, wish the bread was a little more soft, but still, loves it. Unique items. They do also carry a variety of wines and IPAs, a little on the pricey side, but also imported wine and beers are. They also have a station where you can make your own sodas, it's starts from water to light carbonation to heavy carbonation and with 30 to varieties of flavours you can pump. 8 to 9 pumps allowed for each bottle and you get to name your creation as well, just ask for a marker.

This is an awesome store that takes me back in time. With classic rock and ballad tunes over the PA system, it pairs well with the old school feel of the decor which hasn't changed in decades. The drink selection of brands from years past fill the shelves and the old school candies and treats are cool. I personally like the cream sodas and they have several flavors in sugar free. There is a stand to make your own soda and my teen had a blast customizing hers. I wasn't crazy about the soda she created but she chugged it down.

Galco's Old World Grocery aka the Soda store have been around many years as a grocery store and know as the world famous Soda store. People have been coming around California and other state have come to Galco's to find old classic Soda you can't find in store. Once in a while my wife and I go to Galco's to buy vintage Soda that we love they hard to find or they stop making but coming to Galco's we find them. Galco's have a Deli called Galco's Blockbuster they make sandwiches they petty good we enjoy their pastrami sandwiches. We order the turkey Blockbuster they are really good we enjoy our drink we buy. Galco's is part of L.A. history and keeping tradition alive.

They sell sandwiches here, but we didn't buy food, so I'm not going to review that. It's a bare bones kind of shop, with cases and shelves of different sodas. We came for the sodas, and that was a great experience! They have sodas from everywhere, including brands and flavors that I haven't seen since I was a kid (a long long time ago). Lots of interesting flavors to choose from, from all around the U. S. and even the world. The best is that they have a do it yourself soda area where you can pick from various flavor syrups to make your own carbonated soda! They even have a bottling press so you can cap your soda after you've created it. It's really a fun experience! The people are very kind & helpful as well, explaining what we needed to do to make out own soda.

Google
Phenomenal selection of hard to find beverages. I was actively seeking Antarctica Guarana, and they had a huge supply of regular and zero sugar varieties, at the best prices I've seen. You can purchase by the case, or they have a large refrigerated section if you just want to try something to see if you like it. Additionally, they carry a large variety of beers and alcohol, and there's a sandwich counter in the back. They also have a nice selection of vintage candy that can be hard to find. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area, or even going out of your way if you're seeking something unique.

A blast from the past soda pop candy and fresh sandwich spot. Been coming here since during my teenage years when I lived in the area and this place still feels the same in a nostalgic way. The always got old tunes playing, great selection of soda pop options, beer and wines. If you’re looking for something particularly they are bond to have it here. Selves filled row by row as well by refrigerated options for that ready to go treat. The sandwiches are made in the back just like an old school deli. They are always super nice and accommodating with chill vibes. The hot and cold sandwiches. My go to is the Italian blockbuster and the meat ball sub. They also got plenty of candy options and now chips and trinkets, games and all the great stuff to bring out the kid in you. I remember when the owner always being there with his apron and a smile. He use to be stocking the bottles or at the front ringing everyone up. Use to be only cash but now the accept card. They have a decent size parking lot with street parking. This is one of my go to sandwich joints to pair with soda pop and candy. Always puts a smile on my face that every-time I go I feel like I get to travel back in time to the good o days when life was simple. If you’re going on a picnic or the beach or road trip this is the perfect pit stop to grab a simple snacks to make it extra special. I usually pick up a few things and head to the park or go on a hike to enjoy.

Yelp
Established in 1897 as an Italian Grocery store in Downtown LA. Gallo's Old World Grocery moved to their current location in Highland Park in 1955. They started specializing in independent sodas since 1995 when current owner John Nese took over the business from his father. You can find Gallo's featured in numerous publications and shows. Gallo's was even featured in California's Gold with Huell Howser. I saw how passionate John Nese was talking about soda and different kind of sodas. I really wanted to talk with him in person and find some recommendations of sodas. I read many reviews online, on Yelp and Reddit to find recommendations on what to get at Gallo's as I can be kind of indecisive at times and not know what to get. According to online, Gallo's has over 700 different sodas. You find some prominent independent sodas and even some obscure ones as well. They have several international sodas as well. They offer several options of beer including craft beers as well. You can find sodas and beers inside the coolers if you want to buy them cold and they have ones on shelves as well if you wish to buy them at room temperature. They offer several toys for sale in the shop. Parents beware! They also offer lot's of different candies from different eras such as candy cigarettes, Abba-Zaba, Big Hunk, 5th Avenue, Candy Buttons, Chuckles, 100 Grand, Razzles etc. It was very nostalgic seeing so many different candies from my childhood and getting to relive that with my own child. Galco's has a Soda Creation Station that allows customers to customize their own homemade soda using their preferred carbonation and flavors before capping and labeling their creation. Step 1: Grab an empty bottle from the box Step 2: Fill the bottle to shoulder line with the carbonation of your choosing (options include: light or heavy carbonation) Step 3: Mix or match your flavors (8-9 pumps per bottle) Step 4: Cap your bottle with the machine. Push down hard and take a sharpie and write the name of your creation on the label The store was semi busy and the owner John was manning the register. So I waited to speak with owner and waited until he was off the register as I didn't want to hold up other customers. I went up to the owner John Nese and politely said, "Excuse me, sir. Could you please recommend me some sodas?" He snapped back I'm very busy right now. I will come help you later. I was kind of taken back by this response. I couldn't believe an owner would speak to a customer like that. Especially seeing that he was just stocking the shelves. I wasn't interrupting him with other customers or at the registers. Having worked in retail and other businesses over the years. You are always taught to put customers first! This experience really rubbed me the wrong way. I proceeded to pick out some sodas that I read about online and sometime later the owner John came over to ask what I needed help with and I politely told him that I'm okay now. I was really rubbed the wrong with this interaction that I no longer wished to speak with him. I still had trouble deciding what to buy and my wife was giving me the stink eye for selecting too many sodas. To be fair, I rarely drink soda. I went to register to ask the cashier by the name of Erica. She was so helpful in recommending what quintessential sodas I should purchase. Luckily, I picked out a lot of the ones that she recommended and she help me decide what to get. My wife was happy when I put back two or three sodas. I honestly would have given this business 5 stars easily like I do for most reviews, but that experience with John really bothered me. Someone needs to keep the curmudgeon retired at home and away from paying customers. That's my 2 cents! Our favorites were Lemmy's and Bubble Up!

Yelp
We love it here! Vintage and hard to find sodas (over 500 or more varieties), retro toys and candy, artisan beers/beverages from around the world! A DIY soda station! Beyond specializing in sodas, according to Pasadena Weekly, "Galco's also has one of the largest and most diverse selections of sake in Southern California". Wow! Galco's Soda Pop Shop is family owned and operated since 1897. This place is cool and a must visit for soda pop connoisseurs.

Yelp
Looking for that hard to find that classic soda pop you had as a kid? This is a fun place to explore all kinds of sodas, beers, sakis, candy, vintage toys, and more. From root beers to fruity concoctions to weird combinations, you won't be disappointed. I found Pennsylvania Punch, which is close to Delaware Punch (which I loved as a kid). The inventory is impressive and affordable. You can also make your own sodas. In addition, they have some interesting wines.

Yelp
For someone who doesn't get to go here regularly because we live on the other side of the country, this is a 5 star treat. A trip down memory lane for some sodas I haven't seen in a long time plus intriguing sodas I have never seen before. Intriguing snacks too. Spent a good bit of time strolling up and down the aisles looking at all the choices. Prices are reasonable for the specialty they provide. Certainly cheaper than driving to the area of the country where the sodas are sold in grocery stores. Nothing fancy about the store look either outside or inside. Space between the aisles is roomy. The employees leave you to browse. Decent sized parking lot.

Yelp
Weird little spot, great parking, insane selection! There was a ton to select from and even a lot chilled

Yelp
I'm so glad I got a chance to visit such a unique shop! It really is a piece of Americana here and has been featured by Huel Howser himself! Galco's is not only just a soda shop, but also sells various small trinkets and toys, unique imported and classic candies, and they have a deli in the back if you're hankering for a sandwich. There are some tables outside the last time I was there and from what I recall, they do close earlier in the evening. If you're a soda enjoyer, then this IS THE SHANGRILA FOR YOU! Not only do they have classic favorites that everyone loves, but there are so many interesting seasonal flavors, soda imported from different countries, and even a soda fountain in the back for you to concoct your own bubbly beverage! We visited in the cusp of the holiday season with Halloween already past, so there were some spooky soda flavors leftover, but there were also some warm, cozy classic "Christmas" flavors as well. The imported soda are from all over the world from Europe, Asia (if you buy something you can get at any other Asian market like Ramune, I'm not gonna lie, that's kinda an L), South America, and everywhere else. You can buy them by the bottle or by the entire box! If you're down to clown, there's a plethora of Faygo flavors I've never seen so well stocked anywhere else. A MUST is the DIY soda fountain in the back where you can create your own flavor with the syrups there and even customize up to how bubbly you want your drink to be. There's a multitude of syrup flavors to add varying from fruits (classics like orange and strawberry to more fancy flavors like guava and huckleberry), dessert flavors (key lime, salted caramel, toasted marshmallow), floral flavors (rose, lavender, elderflower), and other unique tastes too, like sangria. I was so afraid that what I made was going to taste terrible since I added a lot of flavors, but I didn't over do the syrup so it just tasted like a slightly nicer fruity-floral sparkling water. This was really fun, so I'd definitely do it again! We also got some of the cold cut sandwiches to go. Delicious and pretty sizeable too. I'll definitely go again!

Yelp
Makes me fee like a kid again! First time in a soda store. Self restraint kept my from buying every kind of root beer they had. Also my gf wouldn't allow that lol. We did end up with two sodas. She picked out one and I got my make my very own! Like a child I had difficulty picking out my flavors but since it was October nearing Halloween I decided to make a caramel apple soda and boy was it delicious! Tasted just like a caramel apple and I had so much fun making it! Saw this as a reel on IG so that's how I found out about this place, which I definitely recommend parents and children alike come visit this hidden gem!

Yelp
Amazing fun shop!!! Galco's is a Highland Park traditional shop. They offer many types of hard to find / vintage / traditional candies, toys, puzzles, sodas, beer, Asian drinks like tea and sake. Everything is amazing. I spent a long time here. For soda, they offer bottled Dr. pepper, tons of root beers, orange soda, Christmas drinks, ginger beer, peppermint flavors, just so many! He also has beer from around the world. There's some really cool types in there. When I went, they had hard to find Iron Maiden beer! It was so cool! I also ordered an interesting beer type, and the owner told me the history of the beer company and the bottle! The owner was there and he was so passionate about his store. He was so nice. He made the experience quite memorable. You can also make your own soda! This is super fun for kids. This is a must stop when in Highland Park or on your way to LA.

Yelp
I'd been meaning to visit Galco's for years. I finally did so today and shouldn't have waited so long. What a unique and fun trip down memory lane. The place is like waking into a time capsule. Tons of specialty old time sodas and candy. They also have a deli, where I ordered a turkey dip, which was great. They have a 'make your own soda' area, and my daughter made a 'cherry, root beer, vanilla' mix.. Not sure how that tastes, but she sure had fun making it. The staff, including the owner, were all very friendly and provided excellent customer service. What a great place that my family and I look forward to visiting again!

Yelp
This shop could be a living museum for sodas and candy. It's full of Sodas and candies, from all over. They even have a beer and wine section. Walk through the aisles of small batch , hard to find sodas and you get a feeling of nostalgia. A visit to a museum but you can buy and taste a sample of the exhibits.

Yelp
My boyfriend found this hidden gem and we decided to stop by here on a Friday afternoon for lunch! It can easily be missed driving by as it seemed very clustered together with the other stores/parking lot near by. Walking in, you automatically feel like you're in an old school era with the music playing and ambiance of the whole store. From the front, there are hundreds of carbonated beverages to choose from as well as candies and chips from local businesses. In the back of the store is where you are able to pick out your freshly made sandwich. My boyfriend and I got the Hot Pastrami ($8.99) and it did not disappoint! The pickles were definitely my favorite as it added the perfect flavor alongside the protein and sauces. They also have a DIY carbonated beverage section where you can pick out your preferred carbonation level and syrups in a traditional coke bottle! Everything about this place was amazing as well as the service! Will definitely come back to grab other sandwiches and more personalized sodas.

Yelp
Highly recommended. You're literally stepping into history here. The business is over 100 years old (albeit not all at this location). They've got a zillion different sodas, including many old-timey varieties. You can buy singles of most of them. They've also got wine, a very good selection of sakes, and many interesting beers. They've also got a very nice selection of old-timey candies. Everyone loves those. You should definitely also take the opportunity and make your own soda. It sounds gimmicky but it's not. You simply grab a bottle, add either lightly or heavily-carbonated soda water, add your syrups, and install the cap. The entire process takes about two minutes. Kids can do it and it's a blast. By the way, my green apple and caramel creation was top-notch and delicious. The employees were all extremely helpful and friendly. The fun 50s music playing in the store is a great touch. And they make fresh deli sandwiches, t. They've got a ton of free parking in their own lot so you have no excuse not to visit. We can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Place is old, love that. Sweet man works there. Sandwich is all bread. Literally two slices of turkey. The flavor is good. They just needs to add meat to it.

Yelp
For my 700th review, I thought I'd do another milestone one that is soda pop-related. One of L.A.'s hidden gems or maybe famous (what do I know?) is Galco's located in the northeastern part of the city, in the Highland Park area. Galco's has actually been around since the 19th century and was located in downtown L.A. but moved to its present location several decades later. It wasn't until 1995 that they went to a straight soda pop format. I didn't really know much about this place until I heard about it through travel videos on YouTube. I probably would have missed out on this had I not watched them. But anyway, I was definitely looking forward to coming here on my LA trip last summer and it lived up to my expectations. There are over 700 kinds and brands of soda, from several parts of the United States, as well as a small selection of foreign brands. They even had Fitz's (based in my home city of St. Louis), to my surprise. (My only complaint is that they didn't have Ski or anything from Excel Bottling Company! But hey, nothing is perfect). For any soda/pop lover, you can't go wrong as the choices are endless. Yes, they do have some things that are difficult to find anywhere else. There's even some that are marketed exclusively through Galco's. Not only do they sell soda/pop, but they also have quite a selection of tea, juices and alcoholic beverages. Plus candy that is so old-school that it's not common to find them in grocery stores. And a deli. Did I mention you can also create your own soda? They have a DIY-machine in the back! Highly recommended place to visit, especially if you're a soda/pop fanatic like me. Bad news is it's far from all the other L.A. attractions but this is definitely worth a detour. Check this out!

Yelp
This place has an awesome selection of soda, unfortunately as I was leaving I had to deal with a grumpy old man I'm assuming is the owner. I had brought in my small cav Charles spaniel in our stroller as he broke his hip this week so we can't leave him home and he's very quiet again he was in a stroller not on the ground and we were minding our business, I went to leave and get in the car as my husband waited in line to purchase the sodas, and I hear this man yelling mam at me first making it sound like I was stealing something, then as I proceed to leave since I told him my husband was in line purchasing the items we grabbed. He continues to yell mam at me as he is helping a customer and me leaving in peace not disturbing anyone. He gave me a nasty look and told me dogs are not aloud in the store. We came in and no one had an issue at the front door but now it was an issue as we are leaving the store. I'm a fan of classic sodas but I will truly never come back to this spot again. I don't mind if they aren't dog friendly but it's the very much rudeness and talking down to me and making an entire scene in the store to prove a point is my issue. So I'd rather give my money to another local business than to this guy. I even urged my husband to just leave the sodas they weren't worth it, but he was kind enough to still wait in the line and purchase them. 10/10 soda selection -100/10 for customer service.

Yelp
I have heard about this place for years but until I started working in Eagle Rock, I hadn't made it there. First, just the vintage look as you walk in. Love it. Second, the sandwiches. Awesome bread, filled with meat, and the price is unbeatable. Third, the selection of soda and beer. It is an adventure exploring the aisles and choosing something totally different. Lastly, the service is great. This place is a gem. Please never go away.

Yelp
I first saw this on PBS and wanted to go here for over twenty years. After entering, the whole genre allowed me to go back to my childhood, with the toys, candies and sodas I appreciated during my childhood. There is even a deli at the rear of the store, so I'm planning another trip for the food too, as the deli is so inviting and charming. I ended up buying some wooden musical instruments for my grandson, but will be back for me soon!

Yelp
Galco's is the best place to buy soda pop in the L.A. area, and maybe anywhere on the West Coast, or dare I say, the entire U.S.?! A wide variety of old-time favorites and new varieties of sodas. I've been coming here for decades. Galco's is my go-to place for fun drinks for a party or other special event. On the side of the store is a wide selection of old tyme candies. Also, there is a great selection of domestic and foreign beers. And if that isn't enough, the market has a corner shop inside, which is the oldest Italian Deli in Los Angeles, where you can get some nice sandwiches.
google avatar

Marisela M.

Yelp
Great selection of soda pop and wine. Yummy sandwiches 8 inch or footlong. Also a variety of candies.

Saira U.

Yelp
Really cute little store, very unassuming and not very busy the times I've went. Has many different types of sodas and also alcoholic beverages, and most people who shop there are fun soda/drink loving people. Could be a little cleaner and a little more organized/easy to find what flavors you're looking for, but it's pretty small so you can just make a few rounds. Will be stopping here whenever I want to try a new soda!
google avatar

Dom K.

Yelp
Galco is a wicked portal to the past. All the decor is themed with the 50s? Idk I'm not old. I don't think it ever gets busy, but that gives you a lot of space to shop around. On the side, they have a good amount of candy but their main draw is their massive drink collection. They have a large soda collection of long lasting brands that you won't be able to find anywhere else. Compared to rocket fizz, there's less wacky drinks and more normal drinks that you don't see in supermarkets. They also have alcohol and freshly made sandwiches, but they have very limited staff so you might have to wait.

Yelp
I grew up going to this place and when I walked it it all rushed back. That deli smell is amazing! Sandwiches are just as delicious as I remember 35 years ago.

Yelp
We rushed through traffic from LAX with our cousins from Canada to make our own soda. We arrived at 6:12PM (and it closes at 6:30PM). The second we walked in, the cashier said, "We close in 15 minutes." We found the soda station, and they said, "No, it's too late." We explained that we had rushed over from LAX, and they didn't care. They proceeded to lock the front door and parking lot gate at 6:20PM. We had to drive around the building to get out. (It's grimy in this place, so I probably wouldn't want my kids doing the soda station anyway).

Yelp
A very unique and specialty shop Galco's was featured on California's Gold posted by Huell Howser some years ago. I saw the show on PBS a couple of months ago and was inspired in a nostalgic way to go back in time. My lady and I drove from Long Beach to highland Park in LA last Saturday morning. We peruse the aisles for our favorite soda pop and then over to the candy counter where we didn't want to get to carried away. We met with and were guided by John Nice the owner and manager that Huell interviewed in the original broadcast in 2000. He was very patient and answered all of our questions about the history of some of the items. It was a nostalgic trip and it was definitely worth the effort.

Yelp
Our favorite Turkey sandwich is the blockbuster! Love that this old timey soda pop shop has a deli! And the sodas are so cool! They have a vast collection of beers and sodas and coffees and teas from other countries. The staff is always super nice and helpful. This is a fabulous hidden gem! We actually buy a lot of gifts for housewarming, birthdays, and holiday gifts here! Great place to bring kids and they can make their own soda too! We love Galcos!

Yelp
This place is so much fun!! I discovered Galco's on tiktok and was immediately sold on being able to make your own soda. Once we got there, I was even more impressed by the syrup selection, especially the bottles you could buy and take home. They have so many flavors that you just don't find anywhere else! Making your own sodas is super easy and fun and this is somewhere I'd definitely take friends visiting from out of town. Making your own sodas is a quick activity but it really makes you channel your imagination and it's not an activity you come across often. The shop itself is old and has a super vintage feel, and all of the employees are really nice and helpful. I will definitely be back

Yelp
Brought my grandson here. What fun. Some bizarre flavors but he loves exploring his culinary sweet tooth palate. Very fun. We had the sandwiches. Not so special. Not bad but not great

Yelp
This place fills me with nostalgia even though the vibe is from before my time! If you are looking to feel like a kid again this is the place to visit. Rows and rows of soda flavors from around the world - you can buy them by the bottle or the pack. Vintage candies, old school toys. As the guy at the register rang up each bottle he told me about the flavors - he knew them all. It's Christmas time and he insisted the holiday cola with the sign that said "the best cola you've ever tasted" was just that. As I drove away eating my old school candy I took a sip and have to say he knows what he's talking about. If you like soda how have you not already been here? I can't believe I've lived here as long as I have and today was my first visit.

Yelp
Los Angeles iconic. If you love soda in the glass bottle form, this is your place. It's the only place where you can find hundreds of variations of soda. From yesteryear to this year, Galco's has it. Go à la cart or buy by the case, no wrong option. I love nostalgia, and this place has it. Family owned, great people there. I hope it becomes an LA institution for the next 100 years and beyond. It's your one stop shop for all things fizzy and bubbly. Taste the history and relive the bygone eras of how any soda pop should be consumed. There is so much to explore. If you live in LA, make the time. If visiting, pull out your map and make the effort. No regrets ever. Unique is its wonderment.

Yelp
I'm a little torn on this place. It's super old - and it shows. Clearly they haven't renovated which is both good and bad. I love the classic look and feel but then there are parts of the store that are just trashed and dirty. They have an unbelievable amount and variety of sodas, alcohol, and other drinks - but quite frankly, most aren't anything special and just taste like regular sodas or taste pretty bad. Prices aren't too bad, most drinks I purchased ranged from $2-4 I wouldn't mind returning but I wouldn't go out of my way

Yelp
Do you like soda, hate High Fructose Corn Syrup, and love glass bottles? If you answered yes to all 3 of the above, then you really need to pay this shop a visit. Not only do they have a wide variety of non-mainstream sodas available for purchase, but they also sell sandwiches, alcoholic beverages, snacks/candy, and retro toys as well! All that said ... the most interesting part of this shop is the "Soda Creation Station": you grab an empty glass bottle, fill it up with carbonated water and flavored syrup(s) of your choosing (by my count, 65 flavors are available - not sure if some of them were duplicates of each other though), and then cap the bottle. It will cost you $3.59+CRV/bottle for this novelty, so it'd probably be more cost effective to just buy a commercially produced off-the shelf soda of your choosing (the vast majority of such bottles I purchased from the shop during my visit were $1.99 or less) - that said, it's quite a fun experience, and something you should definitely try at least once if you have not done so. P.S. Yes, I know that at least some of the sodas they stock do (sadly) contain HFCS - however, by my estimation, most of fortunately them do not.

Yelp
What a cool place! Finally stopped by here after driving past it for years. This place is filled with cool and rare sodas, as well as wines, beers, and hard to find candies. There are some sodas you can buy by the case, and the kicker is a real cool soda bar in the back where you can mix your own bottle of soda! Definitely coming back, and it's a place to bring out of towners for sure!

Yelp
Need a quick pick-me-up or feeling adventurous soda-wise? Maybe need a unique last-minute gift? Maybe wanna treat yourself to some unique bottled sodas? Always make it a point to stop by here if I'm in the area. Think of it as a Bev'Mo or Total Wine for soda...and vintage candies! You can purchase by the bottle. You can purchase by the 6-pack...even mix/match! As soon as you enter, you can feel the old-time charm and history of the place. They also have a sandwich counter but I've never tried it. Large private parking lot...or street parking right out front. Sodas average about $3/bottle. Nice employees. Please support this neighborhood legacy business!

Yelp
The store really looks old from the outside and when you walk inside! Although there was a smell inside, the place was really cool and old fashion! There's so much candies and different flavors/brands of soda to go through! My fiancé and I also made our own soda pop which was pretty cool! There's so many different syrups to choose from and it's only $3.59 to make your own!

Yelp
Came here after purchasing an overpriced Linenade at Triple Beam Pizza in Highland Park (definitely check them out for their pizza though). If you're a soda addict like me, this is a candy store! So many flavors and brands to try. As you can see from the pic below, I got a pretty good haul. Definitely check this place out for your soda fix. Also, kudos to the owner, John, who carried out my stash to my car and then opened my car door for me to get in. What guys nowadays still do that? So, go support this business and get your caffeine on!

Yelp
Was here Monday 10/09/23! Did not buy any sodas but bought all of this candy! I ate half of the candy already!

Yelp
If you are ever looking for that hard to find soda pop... then this should be your next stop. Galcos soda pop stop has an array of sodas that you may remember from the past and some from other states and international flavors too. One that I was surprised to see was New York seltzer I have not seen those in a minute. If soda is not your thing there is beer, wine, coffee and water. Heck you can even make your own flavor of soda at the soda creation station. There also old school candy and toys to check out. If you get hungry walking the aisles there is a sandwich shop too. I'll have to try it next time. Galcos even delivers if you want. It's a real neat place to check out on a day trip or if your in the area. My family had a good haul. Be careful though because you may run up the bill once you get to the register to pay. Cheers and have fun browsing the aisles.

Yelp
Great selection of wine, beer, soda, candy and so much more! They even have a deli in the back with sandwiches and unique chip flavors. We got the pickle and the Iberian ham flavors! They also sell cool vintage toys.

Yelp
Our family had a great Sunday afternoon browsing through all the aisles at Galco's while listening to the oldies that played overhead. They truly have something for everyone, including a custom bottled soda machine which was so much fun. This soda shop had a great assortment of retro toys, candy, soda, beer, and more! They even have a sandwich counter that we're looking forward to trying in the future. Wish I could give them 4.5 stars, but I did dock them a star just for lack of friendliness and attentiveness of the employees.

Yelp
Galco's is an institution! Great fun to browse all the sodas and candy. If you need an AbbaZabba or some crazy soda from your youth you can probably find it here.

Yelp
The items that this place has is a throwback to all the great sweets I had in my youth. There's a variety of drinks, with many of them unique. I'm sure if you can't find it in your local store, this place might have it. The original sandwich we ordered was delicious! The staff was nice, and the place looked like a former supermarket converted to a sweets & beverage shop that also serves sandwiches. A sandwich, 3 bottled drinks and 2 candies came out to be $35. Seemed a bit rich for my taste, but I guess that's the going rate for all things now. Overall, it was a nice visit, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

Yelp
They don't have that much soda it's more beer and alcohol. Kind of disappointed in the stock. I couldn't find what I was looking for. It's really change from what my boyfriend said, they had alot more sodas before.

Sonny K.

Yelp
A lot of unusual sodas. A Smorgasburg. An adventure. See for yourself. You won't be let down.

Yelp
Whenever I am in the Los Angeles area, I ask my boyfriend to take the drive with me to go to Galco's. I staff is very friendly and helpful. I love the assortment of candies they have, brings me back to when I was younger!
