This was a very interesting museum that houses the former royal collection of art and other very wonderful objects. You really get to experience the history of the monarchs and of Spain as well. One criticism though I do feel like there was very unnecessary walking and the layout of the building was very strange, given that there was so much space and yet only three floors I believe. They could easily fill out the space more. Additionally, I have tried to use the audio app so I could learn more about the objects on display. Even though I had a code, they said I had to pay which was very strange. Nonetheless, this was a good experience and I spent around 2 hours wandering around. They do allow you to take photos and videos here. I recommend this site if you are in Madrid.

The Royal Collections are held in a modern building next to the Royal Palace that houses 40,000 artifacts from six centuries of collections and had around 700 on display. We were intending to visit the Royal Palace but that had sold out so I opted for the collections instead, which in hindsight was sensible as we have been a bit overloaded with palaces already! Admission was €15 each and it opened prompty at 10.00. After leaving our bags in the locker we started our tour. The gallery is split into two sections, the first details the Austrian monarchs, 16th - 18th centuries and the second the Bourbon monarchs, 18th - 21st centuries. This was a fantastic museum with a sensible selection of artifacts but laid out in a complementary way and with plenty of historical context information. We spent over 2.5 hours exploring the two floors and there were, as you'd expect, numerous items that were just fabulous, from paintings to tapestries to armour to blueprints to tableware. There were descriptions of every monarch and their achievements and historical context and then further information on the individual items associated with that monarch. There were several excellent video presentations too, my favourite being the evolution of some of the royal palaces. The history of the monarchy in the last century was particularly interesting with the interruptions caused by the Spanish Civil War and the 1920's coup d'etat and then the restoration of the monarchy in 1975. One advantage of the galleries being in a new building was that they had a decent cafe, on site! After such an overwhelming amount of information we needed to sit down and process it before our next stop. I had the chocolate lava cake - which was delicious - and Mum and Deb had more humdrum desserts, which they found enjoyable.

The entrance is in the Palace Square, the staff are friendly and the toilets are clean. It's the stairs that take a long time to walk up, so we recommend starting the tour on the ground floor and then taking the lift down, with the exit at the bottom gallery. The exhibits are very rich, and I like the mythological paintings inside, the combination of various creatures is very imaginative. Free admission is available from Monday to Thursday from 6pm to 8pm.

With my assessment, I want to get attention to the fact that this gallery treats nursing women negligently. It was very hot that day. 35+ degrees. While my family was looking at the exhibition exhibits, I wanted to feed the youngest child. I chose a secluded place, turned back from everyone and slightly lifting her T-shirt, decided to breastfeed the baby. I repeat, I turned my face to the wall and slightly lifted my T-shirt. Anyone can't even see anything and no one has. An employee comes up to me and says literally "it's a public place. It's not allowed to eat baby". The text itself confused me, come on. I wanted to argue, but here's a nice girl, another one, says that there is a special room. I think “okay, I'll go there, no problem” I asked “where is it?” And it's on the -3rd floor. It's 4 floors down. Okay! I'm walking downstairs with a stroller. The room is locked! All this time, the baby is waiting for my breasts in my arms. Just imagine how I explain to a baby that he has to wait until I get into a special room. I'm waiting for the security guard, she opens this room for me. I get into the room, behind two doors, without ventilation and without windows. There was simply nothing to breathe there.

Brilliant collection of artefacts from the Spanish Royal family housed in a vast museum. Wide range of objects in excellent condition spanning hundreds of years of Spanish history. Reasonably entry price, free cloak room, ample locker spaces. Highly recommended!

This is a new complex of exhibitions in Madrid adjacent to the Palace. I highly recommend it. It is divided into 2 main sections, the Habsburgs and the Bourbons. The features items from their personal collections acquired throughout their reigns.

The Royal Collection Gallery is conveniently located right next to the Royal Palace of Madrid, making it a perfect addition to your visit. This remarkable museum houses an extensive collection of art and precious objects amassed over centuries by the Spanish monarchy. The gallery provides a unique window into the richness of Spain’s cultural and artistic heritage, showcasing the royal family’s passion for collecting works from some of the greatest artists in history. Among the highlights are masterpieces by Goya, Caravaggio, and Velázquez, alongside many other notable artists. These works are beautifully curated to reflect the evolution of art across various periods, offering a deep appreciation for their historical and artistic significance. In addition to the stunning art collection, the gallery features a fascinating archaeological section. Visitors can explore a special room that reveals the foundations of the ancient Moorish castle that once stood on the site before the Royal Palace was built. This glimpse into Madrid’s medieval past adds an extra layer of intrigue and historical depth to the experience. Whether you’re an art lover or a history enthusiast, the Royal Collection Gallery is a must-visit destination that complements your exploration of the Royal Palace and the surrounding area.
