Galicia Tapas - Review - Inwood - New York - The Infatuation

"This Spanish restaurant got a nice little facelift when it moved from Broadway in Washington Heights to this sunny corner in Inwood two years ago. Now there’s a long bar plus a roomy outdoor patio where you can enjoy perfect Spanish omelets, grilled octopus, and, if you want to make a night of it, classic seafood paella with clams, mussels, and shrimp. Galicia also has a sizable list of Iberian wines, which you should definitely explore as you work your way through an onslaught of tapas. Food Rundown Shrimp And Chorizo A deceptively simple mix of shrimp and spicy sausage, this dish comes in a deeply flavorful tomato-based sauce that’ll have you scraping bread across the bottom of your plate. Prefer to go gluten-free? Opt for a side of the creamy mashed potatoes. Paella Marinera It takes 40 minutes for this home-style paella to arrive at your table, but the good news is that the food comes piping hot. The straightforward layer of rice is mostly obscured by a jumble of seafood including shrimp, mussels, clams, and lobster, with red pepper and peas adding a colorful touch." - The Curious Uptowner

Came here on a quiet Saturday afternoon. It was good to see an A rating on the door. We were greeted and welcomed and could choose to sit anywhere. There was a nice vibe to this place and everything was organized and well lit from the sun too. The large windows helped. We were able to watch the basketball game during dinner so that was a plus. The server was efficient and pleasant. She brought us some empanadas on the house. They were delicious. We all enjoyed our food. The croquettes and cod fritters didn’t taste like they were made the day of but we were so hungry we demolished them anyway. The coffee was fresh and the red snapper was seasoned to perfection and our salads were bright green served with a house vinaigrette dressing. The experience was just what we needed on a good day. I would definitely come back here when I am in the area again and I would recommend others come to this place as well. Thank you for the delicious food and pleasant time!

I have been a loyal customer since they were on Broadway. Fantastic tapas and, great vibes and atmosphere to take the whole family. Great service and friendly feel. You feel like you’re eating a piece of Spain literally. Thank you to Moncho for always making us feel like family 🙏🏾 Food is excellent 💯 I always get a mocktail and they’re spot on, so drinks must be bomb.

Very nice spot quality meal with an extensive drinks selection

Google
Had the Tortilla española but had to add salt and butter since it was bland for my taste. Also had fish and it was very tasty. The staff was great but sadly a group was celebrating an event and they were loud and allowed their kid to make a mess, which wasn't fair to the staff . Will return to try the Soap Gallega.

I absolutely loved this place! Their food is fantastic and their staff is super attentive. Very relaxing atmosphere to enjoy food and drinks over great conversation. Will definitely be returning!

Google
A beautiful find, uptown in Inwood. They have delicious food, a great tapas assortment, as well as delicious lamb chops, steaks, chicken, fish, and seafood. The sangria was fruity, the bar had icy cocktails, and the wine list was extensive. The flan was the perfect finishing touch. The night we were there, there was live music.

Stephen Hughes

Google
The food is excellent, including perfect pulpo. Service is attentive, but not excessive, very professional. The wine list is quite good. Lastly, the ambiance makes you feel as if you’re in Spain.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour with a large group. Unfortunately, there were only drink specials and no food specials. The space had nice wood paneling, exposed brick, full bar, and plenty of seating. The atmosphere was lively, cozy, and fun atmosphere. I knew I had to get my absolute favorite: Datiles Rellenos, which are Bacon Wrapped Dates with Goat Cheese. This came with some olive oil and vinegar. They were a little small with slightly burned bacon, but loved the taste of the dates with strong, creamy cheese and crisp bacon. For my entree, I ordered the Broiled Pork Chop, which came covered with tomato sauce and onion. The Pork Chop was charred a bit, which is how I prefer it. The meat was tasty and well seasoned. The tomato sauce was flavorful and savory, working well with the Pork Chop. Service was decent. Our waiter was friendly and welcoming. Surprisingly, prices were a little on the higher side. I would return to try Cod Fish Bites, Lamb Chops or Red Snapper.

Yelp
My accidental discovery of this place led to many planned returns. We found every aspect of their dishes satisfying. Workers who remember preferences creates personalization. I've enjoyed the food consistently and the serving sizes work well. I'll come back without hesitation.

Yelp
I don't understand what issues others have found with this place. Staff were adequately attentive. The restaurant met all my expectations. The dishes were tender and full of flavor. I advocate for this spot strongly.

Yelp
We randomly found this place after walking around in Inwood Park, and it was such a great find. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and there is a full bar area. We sat outside since the weather was nice and we could people watch. Everyone that we interacted with was extremely gracious and accommodating. My friend dropped her fork, and right away, a server came by to replace it without us even having to ask. It was very refreshing to see such amazing customer service. The menu has a variety of classic tapas and seafood options that are great to share. I loved the complimentary bread that was served ahead of our meal. We ordered several dishes, including the pulpo a la Gallega, which was cooked perfectly and had a soft buttery texture. The datiles rellenos were so good, and if you love sausage, definitely try the chorizo a la plancha. My friend got the pargo a la cazuela, and it was just ok. It was too bland and would have been better with additional seasoning. We left this place completely stuffed and satisfied with the great food and service. Looking forward to my next visit.

Yelp
Late night meal That did not disappoint. We sat outside and had a few tapas And drinks. All very good and worth returning when in inwood area.

Yelp
TLDR: I will no longer gatekeep this establishment 5/5 I've been disappointed by tapas before but my friends who frequent this spot a lot (the staff know them) assured me that I would not be today and my god I wasn't. I can't tell you every dish I ate I'm sorry there were too many plates to count but I can assure you all of them were delicious from: bacon-covered dates, to tomato w toasted bread, scallops, stuffed mushrooms, crispy potatoes, sausage, the mussels?? I can go on! The service was incredible, they were so nice and anticipated your needs. Each dish was made with so much flavor and love and kept on coming! The sangria was delicious and cleansed the palette every time. To think that I lived so close over here and never knew! If you want the full experience from good service to even better food, come here! Please support them! Other notes: - Accessible by the A or 1 train - The cutest interior and they have outdoor seating! - The menu is entirely in spanish but they got you its okay. - Great for larger groups

Yelp
Great Spanish food, we tried different seafood tapas and ordered a seafood platter, so yummy. The service was excellent and drinks refreshing and strong. We were able to enjoy our conversation without being interrupted by others or loud music

Yelp
We saved this until the last night. Our crib was local and we wanted an easy walk home. I knew it promised to be good, but it was great. The grilled octopus (and I hate myself for eating this) was one of the best ever, plump and tender and enough to share. Garbanzos a la Espanola delicious, and I make at home all the time now. Mejillones Galicia (mussels) and somehow we found a plate of Boccarones, it's not a meal without them. The service was great and they seemed pleased that we loved the food. Lovely cozy ambiance. All washed down with Martinis. The best place we ate locally in 10 days.

Yelp
Mom and pop style Spanish-Galician food. Really extensive menu, although realistically there are a bunch of dishes that use the same sauce. The food here is great, so tasty, authentic, and generous portions. For the Paella, the rice is so, so tasty. You also get a half lobster, and the burnt rice at the bottom is amazing. I loved my experience here and will be back here at my next chance!

Jesse A.

Yelp
Excellent rebirth of an old neighborhood classic from Washington heights. Old style Galician food and great wines w a convivial atmosphere. Authentic and delicious.

Yelp
A tapas gem in Inwood with extensive options. I ordered my typical tapas "go tos" and was pleasantly surprised. First, shout out to the complimentary bread which is hard to come by these days! The grilled octopus, gambas al ajillo (shrimp), patatas bravas (had an actual kick) and ham croquetas were perfect to share, and satiated two hungry gals. The octopus which is accompanied by greens can be a main plate. That along with the croquetas were my favorite. Please skip the bread pudding-- it was sadly not good. We arrived around 2p on a beautiful spring Sunday and sat outside, but there was plenty of seating inside. Service was very attentive. Sweet spot for a catch up with loved ones or a date. Looking forward to going back and tasting the sangria next time!

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat and relax in Inwood. Try the Octopus! They have a Harp player on Thursdays. The Croquetas and all the seafood is amazing. They have great Sangria also.
google avatar

Mike Z.

Yelp
Went to the Met Cloisters and was starving after! Trolled google and yelp for options and was lucky enough to come across Galicia Tapas. Everything was delicious. We ordered two tapas and the seafood paella The highlight of the meal was definitely the paella, which truly cooked the seafood flavor essence into the rice, which is not seen all the time. Of course it takes quite a while to come out, but they have great drinks to keep you occupied; we ordered a pitcher of sangria and it was fruity and VERY STRONG (in a good way)

Mary O.

Yelp
Really excellent food. The service is insightful and efficient. I got good advice about the wine pairings.

Yelp
I came here last night and i really enjoyed this place. First the service is great very friendly and they have a happy hour which you can enjoy anywhere in the restaurant. Someone recommended this place to me and I would definitely go back and recommend it to others. I had a coconut mojito while I waited for my friend. Then when she arrived we ordered the octopus and the cod appetizers both were delicious and I recommend them. The portion was big enough to have ended the meal there if you want. I like to eat so I ordered the paella Valencian. Now it was two of us so we shared everything. We did have leftovers and we both had a glass of red sangria. I want to go back to try other dishes. They also give complimentary bread for the table. We ordered dessert the bread pudding which was really good and soft. I really enjoyed this meal and would recommend this place it is a hidden gem.

Maritza R.

Yelp
The soup (sopa gallego) and rice and chicken were delicious. Buy them often because my dad loves it.

Yelp
Amazing overall. Food, drinks, ambiance! 100% recommend! Family friendly, for dates night, birthday parties, graduations, etc.

Yelp
We've been walking by this spot in Inwood for a while now and finally made good on our promise to try it out and are glad we did. Happy hour is from 4-7 on and we got in with just minutes to spare on a Thursday night. Indoor seating was ample despite what you may think from the outside. This place was charming and inviting from the full bar to the Harp player!! Something I haven't seen at any restaurant here yet! A full glass of their red sangria and I could have listened to him play till closing. Their HH margarita looks unsuspecting but it's the best one I've had in Inwood so far. While the tapas plates were on the smaller side they're great for sharing with a date and packed full of flavor. It leaves room for ordering another dish! There are a ton of seafood options but to stray for a moment I recommend the ham croquettes!
google avatar

Wilnely H.

Yelp
I LOVE the ambiance here, music volume was on point to have a nice, pleasant and talkative dinner. Service was excellent, they gave me appetizers on the house, water, explained me the menu. Didn't wait long time for the food, flavors are the best, not too salty, not greasy, just excellent. Tables are always ready.

Yelp
Delicious food. Owner is pleasant to converse with and clearly cares for his business. Portions are generous, and the flavor is fantastic. Worth a visit!

Yelp
Such a cute restaurant in Dyckman! You really feel like you're transported to another world with the beautiful interior. For apps, would definitely recommend the stuffed mushrooms with crab and for dinner I really enjoyed the beef with fries. They also give you a free app of empanadas which were on point and a nice surprise! Would definitely returned. One thing to warn anyone on: parking is SUPER hard to find in this area so would recommend taking public transportation, getting a parking garage or going like 40 minutes earlier than your reservation to find parking.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Just wanna say the tripe and chickpea stew was deeeeeliiiicious! We need more homey, simple dishes like this at restaurants using off cuts. So good! I had it alone and it was great, but I had the next day over some creamy mashed potatoes and the flavors of the stew were even better, and the broth thickened a little bit. So good, please keep it on your menu!!!
google avatar

Ale A.

Yelp
Excellent customer service! Food delicious! Strong drinks! Cute ambiance. Fair prices. Great for date night. Bartender were friendly

Andrew D.

Yelp
Terrible service, everyone got their food at separate times, and not by a minute or two, but 30-45 minutes apart. Wanted to cancel an order and they refused to cancel it. Food is nothing spectacular, and presentation is minimal at best. Tapas are way overpriced, not sure how tapas were priced the same as entrees?
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
OMG! Nothing like incredibly tasty freshly cooked food... cooked with intention and passion. Worth the wait... order tapas and practice the abandoned discipline of reclining at the table and engaging in meaningful conversation. The hospitality... amazing. The space... warm and inviting... A must when in Inwood... Will be returning...
google avatar

Yelp
Incredibly good food! Seriously impressed with the look and the taste of what we ordered. We started with calamari which was cooked to perfection! We then dove into the roasted chicken platter and the beef stew. Let me tell you, it was such a great experience dining here and the staff was so accommodating it just added to the overall pleasant experience A+
google avatar

Jovi A.

Yelp
Food and service is right on every time! Nice corner on a busy street with optional outdoor seating. Try all the tapas and each of them are worth the wait. It's my favorite place!
google avatar

Zulay A.

Yelp
I loved the ambiance and service at Galicia. I spent a few months in Spain and I must say their dishes do come close to the authentic taste of flavors in Spain A few items are a bit overpriced in my opinion but I guess that's the nature of the business when you're in a busy corner. You can't go wrong with their croquetas, gambas al ajillo, pulpo and paella. They have a great selection of wines.

Yelp
What's not to love?!!! The food is so beautifully flavored and prepared. The staff are so genuine and warm and gracious!!! The atmosphere is lovely! We are SO lucky to have found this GEM in our neighborhood!

Yelp
I used to go ...when the restaurant was in 172 st(miss them)they had great food and excellent service....can't wait to try this new place....great ..am happy I found them....
google avatar

Talea C.

Yelp
Amazing octopus! It was perfectly cooked and a nice, big piece. I'm not sure if that counts as tapas (I think they're supposed to be smaller, as a general rule), but I'm not complaining! The waiter recommended an excellent dry red wine, and it was all very affordable. My partner ordered the salted cod dish (can't remember the name), and he said it was delicious. It's an acquired taste, so, no comment from me! It wasn't bad at all, but I can't speak to it. The atmosphere was lovely, and the service was fast and friendly.

robyn m.

Yelp
What a great neighborhood find! Came in with a friend for a celebratory meal and was happy with both service and food/wine. The suggested tapas were delicious and wine was as well. I'll definitely return.

Yelp
One of the hidden gems, and I just found delicious food great customer service the owner is the cook, and the host better known as Mocho not only a gentleman per scholar five stars in my eyes

Eduardo G.

Yelp
Delicious!! Particularly the Paella Valenciana and the Pulpos a la Gallega. Before I had to go all the way to Newark to enjoy a decent paella. Since we discovered Galicia Tapas we can enjoy great paella closer to home. So good this will be our dinner to welcome 2023 !!

arlene p.

Yelp
The food and ambiance are exquisite. The staff is professional and very attentive. It is my new place for drinks, happy hour and most definitely, meals. Delicious food, excellent appetizers, great clientele. Keep it up!
google avatar

Katie D.

Yelp
Came here Friday night because my husband and I thought it looked like a perfect date night spot- and it was! Nice soft lighting, quiet music, beautiful ambiance. The grilled octopus, mussels, and stuffed mushrooms from the tapas menu were delicious and decent portions for tapas. We got the skirt steak from the regular menu and felt it was just ok, could have been thicker and seasoned more. My red sangria was so tasty, and my husband got a margarita that he said was great (which was apparently on happy hour and was only $7 or $8). My favorite part of the meal was the Spanish almond cake, which was a moist almost brownie like texture and a delicate almond flavor with really good vanilla ice cream. The servers were very attentive. We will definitely be back!

Christian F.

Yelp
The real deal! Food made with love and respect. Ambiance was cozy and casual as a Tapas spot should be. Everything I had was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Had Gambas Al Ajillo, Tortilla Espanola and Paella Marinera. Gambas Al Ajilo - shrimp tasted horrible. I can tell that this isn't a fresh shrimp. Sauce was ok tho. Tortilla Española - decent. Paella Marinera - though, portion was generous, lobster was not very fresh. Tail meat was minimal. Rice was good tho, with variety of seafoods. Overall, I felt that dishes were over priced for the quality of ingredients.
google avatar

Stacie C.

Yelp
The waiter recommended a dish that has scallops and shrimp on a red sauce with wine and garlic with mash potatoes, I loved it. My bartender made me a drink exactly as I requested, which is a big plus in the future. I was in heaven with everything.
google avatar

Viole L.

Yelp
I'll been and this place twice, and always leave very happy the food is amazing the service is very good they are very friendly I love the sangria , the paella and the steak % recommended
google avatar

Yelp
Our party of 4 greatly enjoyed the delicious food, great service and relaxing atmosphere. Parking is problematic in this neighborhood but that does not count as a negative against this wonderful place. Regardless we plan to return.
google avatar

Juan L.

Yelp
Love coming here, the service is always on point, they always give you a small a house tapas to set things off and they are always delicious, had the paella today which is authentic as hell. The octopus was also great, gem located on 207th!!!

Yelp
Thought we would give this place a try and they did not disappoint. Everything we ate was amazing. We had the calamari which was crisp and tasty. Then ordered the daily special. Beef stew and Roasted chicken. Tasted like we were eating a nice home cooked meal. We enjoy every bite. Will definitely return to try more items.

Monika D.

Yelp
Great place for tapas! My husband and I came in on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty quiet. At first we were a little skeptical to enter since it was rather empty and there weren't many reviews on yelp- but I think it's because it is very new. Several people came in after us also. I see this as a bustling, popular spot in a few months time! Upon entering, we were greeted by kind and professional staff. The place itself is beautiful and classy with fun blue tables and accents. The bar looks classy also. It definitely has a first date spot vibe or even a gathering for a group of friends. Service was prompt, friendly and professional. Our waitress answered our menu questions and we were checked on a good amount of times. The vibe is very relaxing. The menu is extensive and they have a daily menu as well, so there is something for everyone to choose from! Also they give you complimentary bread in the beginning, which goes great with the tapas (dab the sauces, yum!) We split the Galicia stew (caldo gallego), chorizo a la plancha, patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo and pulpo a la gallega. As someone who both likes tapas and has been to Spain, I can say the food was on par with other great restaurants. They make their gambas al ajillo a bit differently than the way I've usually had them, but still tasty. The stew was rich and delicious in flavor and the pulpo and chorizo were flavorful. The patatas bravas were not as crispy on the outside as I would have liked, but still yummy. We liked the atmosphere so much that we ended up staying for coffee, tea and tiramisu instead of finding a cafe nearby. Highly recommend this place! We will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Stop by for yummy food (or drinks) and great service!

Vicki A.

Yelp
Great food, pleasant staff and surroundings! If you want Galician tapas- come here! Including the wine and beer list!

Yelp
Great! A new neighborhood gem. classic Spanish food and tapas! Had the scallops and 2 bottles of Reserva wine. Did I mentioned, the waitress was great.
