Gallagher’s Steakhouse, located inside New York–New York Hotel & Casino, was the setting for a dinner with out of town friends. While the evening was pleasant overall, it ultimately felt a bit underwhelming.
Upon arrival, we were told we would be seated in the “VIP section,” which certainly set certain expectations. Unfortunately, this space was not part of the main dining room. Instead, we were led to what felt more like an overflow area, resembling a conference room with tables and chairs. The atmosphere was impersonal and quite disappointing, lacking the warmth and character one expects from a classic steakhouse experience.
That said, the service truly stood out. The gentleman who took care of our table was fantastic, attentive, professional, and genuinely accommodating throughout the evening. His service elevated the experience considerably.
The cocktail program also impressed. The watermelon martini was outstanding, beautifully balanced, refreshing, and generously poured. As a starter, we ordered the watermelon salad, which turned out to be the highlight of the meal. It was vibrant, flavorful, and perfectly executed.
For our main courses, we sampled the lobster, salmon, and steaks. The lobster was a nice size but leaned a bit dry. The steak was solid and well prepared, while the salmon, though cooked nicely, was somewhat bland and lacked depth of flavor.
In the end, Gallagher’s delivered a decent dining experience with strong service and a few standout items, but it didn’t quite live up to expectations, especially given the setting and reputation. Pleasant, yes, but ultimately a bit underwhelming.
