"Menudo is famous for its hangover-slaying, rejuvenating capabilities. Get a quality bowl at this Mission staple — or if spicy tripe soup isn’t really your thing, the birria and pozole would serve you well, too." - Eva Frye

I love Chilaquiles! I had mine for breakfast, but they're great for lunch and dinner too. I ordered them with chicken at Gallardos, and they were delicious!!! Their portions are very generous and less expensive than most places. I couldn't finish it in one sitting, so i ended up having three meals out of it. The tortilla was moist but crunchy just the way I like it. Every bite was so flavourful. They also give 3 or 4 tortillas on the side. And what I liked about the side tortillas was they cooked them longer than most places that end up leaving them tasting raw and dry. I will be going back to see what other tasty dishes I can try.

Google
One star off immediately for keeping both the front/back doors wide open on a day with temperatures down in the 40s, not a fan of dining indoors with icy cold temperatures. This shows they care more about their own comfort than that of their customers. Service is very spotty. Practically choking on my chips/salsa waiting for the server to bring a glass of water. Super carnitas burrito meat was old, dry and tough. The meat was not fresh at all, ruined the entire burrito. The chips and salsa tasted good. The prices are reasonable, but the quality is really lacking. Would I eat here again? Definitely not

Google
Really good flavorful mexican food with big portions and low prices! The restaurant had live music for almost the whole time we were there and the wait staff was really friendly.

Google
The service was excellent and quick! I would return just for their pozole—it's the best in town, in my opinion. We also tried the carnitas plate, which tasted incredibly authentic. The dishes aren't fancy, but the flavors and authenticity truly stand out. I can't wait to go back and explore more of their menu!

Great, authentic food! Friendly service. Love it! Bring cash! Chile Verde is to die for.

Google
Found out about this place from a friend recommendation and writing this review to inspire you to check it out! Just be aware that it is cash only. The ambiance feels like you’re in a cozy restaurant in Mexico. Ordered the chilaquiles and was thoroughly impressed. The right amount of spice and flavor, the chips were perfectly covered in sauce, and not soggy. It came with rice and beans, which were also fantastic. It can definitely get busy, but the service is still friendly and caring. Will definitely be coming back again (and again)!

Google
We loved it here!! The Burritos are huge, the guacamole so tasty and the Quesadilla just delicious. Very fair price considering the portion size and the amazing service. We’ll definitely be back!!

Google
A decent and cheap Mexican place - the food is really simple but also I wasn't that pleased with my dish. Good: - The prices are great - about $11 for an entree and it feels like you get a really good deal - Portion sizes are huge Bad: - There were flies around and it felt a little more messy - Hard to get the attention of servers and the service was slow - The enchiladas were a little bland Overall wouldn't come back but this place felt authentic and that it was a local business.

Yelp
The most mid Mexican place in my opinion. FOOD We got the simple asada tacos. The flavor of the meat was okay. They seasoned it on the weaker side. But they give so much meat for each taco. SERVICE The service is pretty okay for the restaurant style. It's a very mom and pop type of shop and it is what you get. You won't be seeing constant check ins or water fill ups, but it's decent enough to get the job done

Yelp
If you you are craving a homemade meal come to this place. Everything taste so fresh as if your abuelita made it for you. I ordered the chilaquiles and they did not disappoint. Every bite was filled with so much flavor and the sauce is divine. You also get a side of beans and rice which are delicious as well. My partner ordered the noplas con huevos. They came with rice and beans as well as a side of freshly made corn tortillas. He ate the whole dish and could t be happier. They have a lot of outdoor seating and a beautiful patio to enjoy your food. They also have a ton of seating inside as well. Highly recommend this place if you are on the area.

Yelp
Good prices. Decent food. Make it a super burrito for $1 extra. I wish they had more vegetarian options. The staff were very busy so don't have a lot of time. Cash only. Good location with easy street parking when we were there.
google avatar

Yelp
came for the pozole and it smackeddd. cash only but they have an ATM at the back. Classic mexican restaurant vibes. I would come back again for the pozole but also would like to try other dishes.

Yelp
Major props for being so authentic. We were the only non speaking Spanish people there. Very fresh ingredients and food. Flavor isn't our style though. Our beef enchiladas were a bit dry. The quessabirria was a mixture of lamb and beef. So if you don't like gamey foods, you won't like this. I like gamey meats, but this wasn't seasoned enough, and the broth is very salty. I felt the birria needed more flavor. And for almost $9 for ONE side entree birria, it's not worth it. The cripsy taco was okay, nothing to write home about. My friends combo #3 beef enchiladas were a bit burned. Like they had been sitting under the oven too long. My enchilada plate wasn't burnt, but the asada was also dry, the cheese was burnt, and the beans weren't even worth eating. The rice was good though. 3 stars for solid average. This is a cash only place.

Yelp
Great service! Amazing staff and owner! He took the time to check on us and made sure all was good. Food was great! Menudo and Burrito and Shrimp cocktail (just a little too sweet) but still good flavor! Live music came in and played a few songs! Great time !

Yelp
Good Mexican family food served by lovely people. They gave us extra broth to go with leftover soup. Try the quesadillas with nopales. Perfect place for a family with small kids. Nice outdoor tables, too.

Yelp
I've come here many times sense and each time I leave so happy and satisfied. I finally tried something different, the chilaquiles were delicious. I can't give this place enough stars for how tasty the food is and how kind the staff is.
google avatar

Alexander C.

Yelp
Was recommended to come here for the chilaquiles and they did not disappoint! Really delicious and full of flavour. A building spice that isn't overpowering. The nopales super burrito with chorizo was also fantastic. Make sure to ask for some salsa on the side. This may be one of my new fave Mexican spots in The Mission!

Yelp
Very friendly and family oriented Mexican restaurant. The owner is super personable and came over to chat with us at the table. I love that their Michelada's are served with the caguamas the pozole was also amazing and served hot with all of the fixings. Inside is beautiful and well lit. Not sure about parking, as my friends and I walked here. Overall, would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.

Yelp
Have always heard this place was really good so I had to try it myself! Came here sunday around 2pm, thankfully it wasn't busy. I've heard there usually is a wait but we got seated right away. The whole staff was very friendly and attentive. Place was clean and not too loud. We got a plate of bean, cheese and guac as the appetizer. The beans were really good. 5/5 I was craving a birria soup.. thankfully they still had some! I've heard they can run out by the afternoon on weekends. It was flavorful and had a spicy kick but I finished my whole bowl. It comes with hand made tortillas. 5/5 Also got the tampiqueño, which had carne asada, chilaquiles, and chicken enchilada with rice and beans. This was also really tasty and the portion was huge. 5/5 I asked for a mexican bottled sangria as drink but I guess they misunderstood me and brought me an alcoholic sangria... wasn't mad about that! ;) that tasted good and was refreshing paired with my soup. This place is cash only so be prepared. You can call to make reservations, can't make it online. Parking can be tough since its in the Mission area, so plan ahead to look for parking. Will be coming back here. This is the spot for authentic Mexican food.

Yelp
Gallardos Mexican Restaurant has a decent ambience, but the food was disappointing. I ordered a chicken torta milanesa, and it arrived in a messy pile with sour cream and sliced vegetables scattered everywhere, making it hard to eat. Overall, the presentation and taste didn't meet expectations.
google avatar

Ramon F.

Yelp
Food was delicious. I ordered Pozole and it came with all the fixings. It was delicious. My daughter ordered came asada torta and she loved it. The is my go to spot when visiting San Francisco. The down side is limited street parking, but with the little hassle. Quick service, nice ambiance.

Nick I.

Yelp
Normally the food here is great. I ordered a burrito to go and was enjoying it very much, but about halfway through, I bit into a ROCK. No joke, there was a rock in my burrito. No idea how this got here. What else is in this??
google avatar

Judith R.

Yelp
My parents love this place and now so do I. I crave the pozole anytime I miss my moms pozole and she's not making it. The plates are delish and taste like a home cooked meal you always want to keep close to your heart. Def a San Francisco gem and staple.

Sam C.

Yelp
I love the birria and pozole here. The food is great and tastes homemade. Their outdoor patio area is cute and the inside is bustling on a weekend, the restaurant interior is cozy and feels lived in. Service can be slow especially on a packed day but you can always go to the counter if you have other plans to rush to. They only take cash as of when I last went and there is an ATM inside.

Yelp
Don't know why.... But I gave this place another try and again was disappointed. Waitress was very nice! Guacamole was not that great very little seasoning and has a tinge of brown to it. After we ordered our food, I could hear the microwave being ran so I can only imagine that it's all just reheated. My Chile Reino was oily and had other vegetables stuffed inside of it which I have never had at anywhere else. My enchilada had a heaping mound of sour cream on the top it which just ruined it for me. The overwhelming smell of the cleaners they use in this place ruined it for me. We paid 63.00 for a meal that was very subpar. Could have had a better dinner at a taco truck. I know this place has been around a long time but I do not understand what the draw to it is. Service was 5 stars.
google avatar

Fiona Y.

Yelp
They have the nicest staff and most delicious food with fresh ingredients and generous portions. The outdoor seating is especially gorgeous in style and covered in greens on weekends for brunch. They are cash-only but have an ATM machine on site that makes forgetful customers' experiences a lot easier! 5+ stars
google avatar

Kelly T.

Yelp
The most delicious salsa verde on top of my huevos divorsiados! I love the table salsa and the waitress that's always there is super super nice. Next time I have to try their enchiladas! Will be coming back. Great little spot
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast and tried their Huevos Con Chorizo - basically like scrambled eggs with chorizo. It came with rice, beans, and a spicy green salsa, as well as some corn tortillas. The food was great - the flavors melded well together, and I really enjoyed the green salsa - it was just the right amount of spice. The tortillas were my favorite - the perfect thickness, the right chewiness, and really nice corn flavor. I ended up making a few breakfast burritos with the huevos con chorizo and tortillas and wish I had space in my stomach for more. They have outdoor seating options which are covered and somewhat sheltered from the elements. The service was nice, even though they took more time than expected getting our orders. The place is cash-only though, so come prepared.

Yelp
Great Michelada, Authentic Food, and reasonable prices! Had an awesome brunch here and will definitely be back! Make sure to bring cash! It is a cash only restaurant!

Yelp
Heard some really good things about this spot so I was excited to check it out on a Saturday morning. I got the birria soup which came with tortillas and my boyfriend got the carne asada super burrito. For me the birria was a bit too oily but the flavor of the soup and tenderness of the meat was really good. I couldn't finish more than half the bowl because the oil was really starting to get to me. The burrito was pretty good, a standard burrito but it didn't stand out too much. The salsa and chips were honestly the best part of the meal! It was some of the best salsa I've ever had and I would come back just for that. Overall I think there are some better options on the menu and we just picked the ones that didn't stand out the most. I think I will come back if it's convenient but maybe not a go-to spot. Reminder that this spot is cash only but there is an ATM inside.
google avatar

Cheryl L.

Yelp
Great spot, close to Dolores! They're cash only but have an ATM inside. Portions are large and well priced! And service is incredibly fast as well. I got the quesabirria which was really flavorful especially in the consome
google avatar

Hannah H.

Yelp
I crave these chilaquiles on a regular basis! The food is amazing and comes out quickly, staff is great, and truly the best chilaquiles in the city!
google avatar

Marjie S.

Yelp
The food I ordered was amazing! I got chicken & cheese enchiladas w/ rice & beans. Two people got the carnitas, but they weren't impressed with them. There were 7 in our party, and everything else was amazing! We loved the chips and (spicy) salsa. But, the best thing of all was the FRESHLY HANDMADE corn tortillas. What an absolute treat! Warning: this place is cash only. That is a bit inconvenient. We will definitely return next time we are in SF.
google avatar

Ana N.

Yelp
Always a pleasure with food and ambience. We always try to make a visit. Highly recommend the menudo, caldo de res, and enchiladas!
google avatar

Amaresh S.

Yelp
I got the cheese enchiladas with red sauce from Gallardos. The food was quite good, though I think I missed out being vegetarian. The flavors were good, but since most of the items on the menu contain meat of some sort, it is hard to recommend this place if you are only going for the vegetarian options. Still, the quality of the ingredients was high, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the ambiance was good (could tell it was an authentic place based on the clientele). One downside is that it is cash-only, but they do have an ATM on premise

Yelp
Came here for weekend lunch and it was busy but we got sat right away. Well, we were instructed to go to the table in the far back and was then forgotten about. It was hard to flag someone down because everyone seemed to have their own tables to worry about. Eventually, the lady who "sat" us brought us menus and a different lady came to take our orders...eventually haha. SERVICE Overall, not great. FOOD - Menudo: The best thing we ordered! It was supposed to come with patas but nada. I'm not sure if you have to ask for hominy but ours just came with tripe. - Quesabirria: Comes with 4 tacos and consome AND it's made with lamb. I wasn't a fan because it was a little gamey, but the meat was super tender. There wasn't a whole lot of cheese either. - Guadalajara combo plate (3 set items with beans and rice): I guess you can only choose one type of meat. The plate was messily plated with everything just blending with each other. The crispy taco came with chicken meat cooked with tomatoes; it was okay but tasted better with the house red salsa. The chile relleno was not good at all; it was super soggy and mushy, and the chile tasted off. The enchilada was made with green pork (random since I ordered chicken) and the meat was super stringy, dry, and tough. - Sangria: Might be one of the worst sangrias I've ever had haha. It didn't come with any fruits and it just tasted like stale wine that was watered down (it was very light in color too). I don't think anyone really orders this and hence why it's terribly made. Even though I didn't have a great first experience, this wouldn't stop me from returning to try other items on the menu BUT I'm also in no rush to return soon.

John S.

Yelp
Used to be solid but last time I went the waitress was surprisingly rude/careless - after asking us for our order, she randomly gossiping with a coworker while we were still ordering and ignored us for some time. Then she forgot about one of our meals. After waiting for 20 minutes, I went up to the counter and it turned out she'd never put the order in - we wanted to start eating together and everyone else's food was well cold by the time the forgotten dish came. I know it's not the owner/manager's fault because he was definitely apologetic, but the fact is this was a genuinely bad experience for all of us. We weren't even offered a discount or anything. We still tipped well because we didn't want the rest of the staff to suffer just because the server did a bad job. I'm sure somebody else would be happy to do that job well (or even decently) given the opportunity. TLDR: Kitchen staff good, servers bad. Proceed with caution!
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
I used to love this place. Decided to come back today, food had no flavor. Chips were stale, tortillas were not freshly made. Everything tasted reheated. Service was also bad. No one came to check on us and place was empty. Will not be coming back.
google avatar

Melissa T.

Yelp
This is the spot! Love the cozy & lively atmosphere here. All the tables were occupied so we had less than a 10 minute wait. The staff were so friendly. Ordered menudo and a carne asada taco. The taco (not pictured) was a good portion and tasty! The star of the show was the menudo, of course. So flavorful and savory. Oh! It's cash only, but they had an ATM there. I'll definitely be returning!
google avatar

Graham P.

Yelp
So much delicious food on one menu it was nearly impossible to choose. The chicken fajitas and the flauta were both delicious and spiced just right. Service was friendly and great atmosphere for a casual sit down
google avatar

Carrie L.

Yelp
Great breakfast spot! Lots of options and huge portions! I got their quesabirria which is packed with flavor and juice. I've been here a few times now and always overwhelmed with all my options on the menu, but I can't wait to try more!

Yelp
Hell yeah. Classic Mexican family restaurant in the mission. Frequent this place, send your friends here, eat here, often, keep this place afloat; it's the kind of place we want to keep in the mission. I suspect the bougie, Instagram crowd might find this place a little too basic, but if you're looking for a authentic Mexican food with handmade tortillas, check this place out. Their machaca is delicious, their breakfast burritos are fantastic, the soups on the weekends are great. I've ordered lots of different things here, some of them are OK. Many of them are fantastic. If you are new to San Francisco and make over $100,000, go here at least once a month as a practice to keep part of the old city you missed out on alive. Try something new every time and leave a big tip. The folks who work here will remember your face and will likely start giving you free things and treating you like family.

Yelp
I'm telling my friends, families, and ancestors to come here. 10/10. We got lamb birria and Lomo Saltado De Res. Both were packed with flavors and we couldn't believe how good it was after the first bite. Once I ate it with their freshly made tortillas, I forgot about all of my problems. Great service, and the ambiance was lively, Great spot for weekend lunch. fyi lamb birria comes with bones so just be mindful while eating. Their portions are huge so if you're just slightly hungry i would share a single plate with someone.

Jose C.

Yelp
My wife loves wet burritos and asked for one here and specially made one for her ( it was not on the menu)
google avatar

Esmie M.

Yelp
Please note that this is a CASH ONLY restaurant. (They have a small sign inside the restaurant) and they do have an ATM incase you don't have cash on hand. The food was great, we never made it inside because it was really packed and we're seated outside. We came on a Sunday morning and there were a Latin musicians playing for tips. The menudo was delicious and we ordered birria as well, along with nacho asada. The service was great, the waitress came by regularly to make sure we were taken care of. Over all great experience.

Margo C.

Yelp
La comida súper deliciosa buen buen sabor 100 por ciento recomendable el personal súper amable me encantó si volvería
google avatar

Lama L.

Yelp
The service is fast. The food is excellent and sometimes they have live music. It's pretty nice inside.
google avatar

Shane C.

Yelp
Good solid, Mexican restaurant in my neighborhood. They've been in business in the Mission as long as I can remember. Bright open space with lots old Mexican movie start posters on the walls. Outdoor patio/parklet and sidewalk seating for those nice, sunny Mission days. The tortillas are made fresh in-house. It always seems to be busy for brunch on weekends. I have the standards: enchiladas, relleno, tacos and soups and enjoy them all. Recently, I had the beef milianesa (breaded, fried beef cutlet) and it was a flavorful, crispy, non-greasy dish. They serve breakfast all day.
google avatar

Kunalan S.

Yelp
Service: Good. 4/5 Value: Great! 5/5 What I ordered: Burrito Vegetariano - Good. 4/5 Guadalajara Dinner - Good. 4/5

Yelp
Everything was amazing, fast service, spicy salsa, Thee Best Chile Relleno I've ever had. Fresh made gauc. I mean if you are in the mission district don't be scared to walk a little down the road to this Can't Miss Restaurant!! Absolute

Gabriela R.

Yelp
The place was very dead and awkward, no music and one other pair there. The service was okay, however they only accept cash which I didn't see announced. Food was okay, meat was very chewy but I guess eatable. Prices were reasonable.
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
Came during lunch time on Saturday and they were packed! Indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for outdoor since we brought my dog with us. Awesome authentic food & friendly staff. Have been here a couple of times already and it never disappoints. Prior visits, we have tried the milanesa, menudo, pozole, & nopales with eggs - all fireee. Street parking could be tough and make sure to bring cash! Not sure if they accept card yet.

Yelp
This place is my favorite place for two reasons. One the waitresses are wonderful and so friendly. The food is the best in the mission for my taste. The owner is a nice guy. Overall this place is A+ Just finished another delicious meal here.
google avatar

Ishikawa M.

Yelp
I really like their foods! I'll rate 5 stars. 2 stars off because of the service I was having a lunch by myself, delicious enchiladas del mer. Wait person wasn't checked on me at all while I was eating, that's fine. However when I'm done obviously, she's never coming and continue serving customers came much after me, gave them a check and leftover containers. So I feel ignored.. but then when she's serving a table next to me I asked her for a small container. Another waiting for more than 20+minutes and finally she brought it with a check after she heard me saying to other waitress who's asked me for a container, I asked her long time ago.. Well, I packed my leftovers and I find it was dirty cover when I closed it.. I lost interest to take it home then! So I left a container on the plate wishing she got my message:(

Yelp
Very tasty and well prepared food which seemed fresh and well presented. I had the sopa de camarones and it was delicious
