Had my first experience at Gallery5 last night for Wes Parker’s EP release, and I absolutely loved this venue! It’s a great smaller space with an intimate feel, plus a really cool art area showcasing (what I assume are) local artists—lots of unique prints, shirts, and more for sale. The staff was super friendly, the bar had a solid drink selection, and the concert itself was fantastic. We were checking out their upcoming shows, and there’s such a great variety—we’ll definitely be back! Really impressed with the atmosphere and selection here. Highly recommend!

Only been there once to see Jed Harrelson. It was an awesome show. Bar had lots of options and was fairly priced. Live music sounded amazing in there highly recommend.

Nice small venue. It has been redecorated and the interior arranged since I was last here several years ago. The renovations give it much more of a club-like atmosphere. I would not want to come here for loud music but more intimate shows can thrive. The monthly jazz sessions are a boon to the Richmond scene. They are free, but you can buy a table and help support the program. The bar is decently stocked. The acoustics have also been much improved.

Used to come here for some fun little parties. Great place for little music shows and some art. Always was a good time with some cool people. Check it out if something is going on there and you're looking for something to do!

Local, small gallery that includes art, live music, drinks, and other events. Very good people to meet and work with. If you're an artist, you should definitely check out the place and their website and see how you can participate. They're very welcoming of new artists and their entry process for submitting art for gallery exhibition themes was easy. Generally, the art vibes are dark, moody, and ethereal. The location is a little off to the side from the main Broad Street area, but still worth to take this "detour," especially on First Fridays.

This is a great venue for local and touring bands! Very diverse acts come through as well. We’ve had a great time performing our post rock/ math rock type music! Good people run the place.

Art, live music, nice crowd, and a good beer selection—what more do you need?!

Great space. Great Afrotease show! I would have preferred the music to be a little lower pre -show, so folks could talk and not scream.

Yelp
I love Gallery 5 and cannot rave enough about this lovely art/music/bar/performance space. I've attended art shows, burlesque shows, wine tastings, game nights, and concerts here. Some of the most creative things can be found at Gallery 5. It's a spot I'd recommend every local check out at least once. My favorite feature is when the weather is just right, they open up the space to get fresh air in. It makes for a beautiful farm house look. The drinks are priced just right here and the bartenders are wonderful. You are able to purchase tickets for shows ahead of time or in person. If you purchase them ahead of time, they'll usually have your name on a list at the front. Gallery 5 is a very hip and chill spot. It's great for big events or relaxed evenings. You can see their full lineup of events on their website's calendar. There is free street parking nearby and a lot of other great local businesses to check out not too far away. I highly recommend checking out Gallery 5.

Yelp
Great venue for an event as part of a conference. Friendly staff, lots of space and a great location close to downtown. Like that they have local beer available.

Yelp
Nice venue for the small Jazz concert I attended. First time here and was pleasantly impressed. There was a small bar to get drinks and take back to your seat. Very relaxing.

Yelp
Great space! Great bar! Would absolutely go to another event here! It's proximity to other places downtown makes it ideal for a show or event because of the options nearby! We had a blast!

Yelp
Most unqualified and unprofessional sound person in Richmond. Save your music and ears and book / buy tickets elsewhere.

Yelp
Went to Gallery 5 for Project Resolution. Maybe I just didn't see enough, but I wasn't impressed... though I was impressed with the beer offering. Wish they sold food. Even hot dogs... or candy... Nada. Really, really uncomfortable chairs.

Yelp
Went quite a few years ago with my wife for a comedy show performance; it wasn't the best we saw but still quite entertaining and definitely distinct and worth going out of our way considering we didn't find parking nearby either. That time, the place was not at all packed and we had plenty of time to get a drink (or few can't recall!). I'm primarily writing because I a few weeks ago came with my best friend on a whim to a burlesque performance especially since neither of us has a *clue* what to expect! Well, interesting to say the least but like my last visit, this is a great location for artistic performance so it's a good fit! Beyond the "traditional" burlesque individual person performance, there was also a two person band for intermission as well as a single person comedian and for those that would expect a.burlesque to be always female performances there was one male performance as well ... so truly unique night! The ambiance was totally different that night: the place was PACKED (standing room only) and they wanted the audience to definitely interact(verbally not physically) with the performances too. Again, there were drinks at the bar - a bit pricier than I recall but a decent variety. We didn't stay the entire show...probably left about 15 minutes before it was all over. We did talk to one or two people that performed (one inside walking around and the other outside having a smoke). Like last time, we had to park afair distance but we didn't know the area well at all.

Yelp
A great place to grab a beer, see a performance and enjoy 1st Friday. This is one of the highlights of the 1st Friday events every month down in Jackson Ward. It has an art exhibit on the upper level, music and beer on the lower level and fire dancers and DJ's outside. The scene is younger at times but very fun and accepting. If comes off as a strange time lapse with the street closed, cobble stone streets, old buildings and quirky, bohemian types about. The fun is ever shifting as several bands play throughout the night. They also do special events that seem to be really 'happening.' I never get invited to these events but they look exciting from the curb. I've seen wedding receptions, art shows, beer gardens and all that fun stuff. Rent the place out and invite me, I'd love to go.

Yelp
I've played two shows here and it's easily one of my favorite venues in Richmond. It has a DIY feel to it even though it's a legitimate venue. Beer is pretty cheap and the sound system is pretty choice. Apparently there wasn't a stage before but now there is. Us punks still play on the floor though. Only downside is there isn't any food served here or anything fast and cheap around. If a burrito bar opened up next door, they'd make a killing.

Yelp
The shows are delightful, and I've enjoyed every performance I attended. The parking and the available refreshments, not so much, and Lisa G. isn't lying about the seating being kinda terrible. It's sort of a hit or miss, depending on what you want most, honestly. Well worth the price to see something you enjoy, but not exactly a go-to for chilling, in my book.

Yelp
Amazing art and performance spot in RVA. Good event space too. Tons of history.

Yelp
So it took me a minute to write this review but I'm glad I got around to it because everyone should know how lovely the staff at gallery 5 is. I caught the end of Elvis Depressedly and hung around after the show inside. The bartender was adorable, friendly, and funny! Also Gallery 5 consistently has the best art every first Friday's

Yelp
What a great resource this venue provides for Richmond. In addition to the art shows and first Friday happenings, they host a weekly game nights, burlesque performances and a multitude of fundraisers for worthy local causes.

Yelp
Horrible. The show, was great. The people there, were not. It was intermission and people had gotten up from their seats. Some people left their belongings in their seats to "claim" them, no problem. However, if you get up from you seat, which doesn't have your name on it by the way, and don't leave anything in it, I assume it's a free for all. Twice I was asked to move from perfectly empty seats by the people who had left them vacant for about 10-15 minutes. They expected to come back to "their seats" after leaving them for that long. Next time, if you want your own private seating arrangement, try leaving something in the seat. I asked the ticket counter lady what the deal with the seats was and she said they were open seats, none were reserved. Then once I told her what happened she said there was "nothing they could do about it". Waste of $15. Won't be going back.

Yelp
The show was great but the wait times... It said show 9 pm and doors 8 pm, but it did not start till 9:30 pm. And there was a 20 minute intermission. That was almost an hour of just straight waiting even after the show was supposed to start. I would get 5-15 minutes of extra waiting / intermission, but waiting an extra hour when you paid $20 per ticket is UNACCEPTABLE. I was going to talk to management or something, but I was so angry and not in a good mood so I decided not to. I am not one of those people who wants to start a scene.

Yelp
I used to live just down the street and I must offer a sound piece of advice for those looking for a good nightlife scene on First Fridays, This is what you have been looking for. Food trucks, light shows, and Music until the wee hours of the night. It's certainly the best time to visit Gallery 5, which is less known as a gallery and more known for community events and small concerts. But for those who live nearby and happen to be babysitting do bring the little ones by for a glimpse of the old firetruck they keep on display from when the building was a firehouse.

Yelp
I came here for a free music even and it was pretty cool. Parking can be a bit dodgy but the beer was cheap and the sound was good inside. They even left in the old firemen's poles so it has some character. Nice little spot for smaller events.

Yelp
We came here for the River City Rollergirls fundraiser, and this place seems to be a great spot for smaller events. The acoustics are very good and there is just enough room to move about. They offer a nice selection of drinks at prices that aren't outlandish, like at some places. I'd definitely attend another event at this location.

Yelp
Great space with some awesome events (river city rollergirls fundraiser, art shows, beer fests, etc). The only downfall I've found is that it is soooo HOT in the space. Definitely a place to check out.
google avatar

Yelp
Not too much to say about this place, I showed up here to attend a beer event and was informed that it use to be a firehouse. It's really spacious and in my opinion, a perfect venue to hold events in.

Yelp
Love it love it love it. Great place for Richmond artist, musicians, performers of all types to hang out. An the history of the building is fascinating. Great beer selection at great prices. Always something new going on, fun and fresh. A two story building; performances are usually downstairs and the artwork is upstairs. Make sure to check out both floors!

Yelp
I Love this space. The work they display is usually up-and-coming and interesting. I've been to a lot of events here - usually on First Fridays, and it's a blast. They have a stage for performances and musical acts, and the sound system is pretty good. It tends to attract interesting, artsy people, so I like to go there and mingle/people watch. Oh- and the Party Liberation Front does fire shows outside on some First Fridays. It's a fun show to watch -fire twirling with kind of circus/dubstep type music. The only cons are that sometimes it gets a bit hot inside in summer and they only serve beer/wine at events. But, I mean, they're not a bar, so that's not much of a complaint.

Luke S.

Yelp
The people at Gallery 5 have their finger on the pulse of Art in Richmond. Every first friday people are lined up waiting to get in. In addition to great art and installations, this is an awesome venue for live music of any sort. They've just opened a library in the first floor which seems to be taking off well. Definitely the place to see and be seen for the art crowd. Worth checking out!

Prabir M.

Yelp
Rad place for shows and art in the Rva area...best bar in Jackson ward when it's open. Only open for events, but worth the visit when open for keeping up with what the community is doing and people watching of course!
