"Situated on the edge of the Leocorno contrada (district) just a stone’s throw from the Piazza del Campo, this restaurant with medieval origins has a recently renovated, designer-style dining room with a modern feel. Marco Langella from Campania is at the helm in the kitchen, where he reinterprets local culinary traditions in a modern style with a careful focus on flavour. He also offers a special tasting menu featuring meat and fish dishes. We particularly enjoyed the duck with orange, bitters and Taggiasche olives, and (perhaps even more!) the creamy, delicious dessert made with blue Erborinato cheese, dates and French toast. The beautiful wine cellar can also be visited by guests." - Michelin Inspector

This has reputation as being the best restaurant in Siena, and after experiencing it, it probably is. I treated my husband to a birthday meal here while we were in Italy and it was a good choice. The restaurant is very stylish, very Italian, and the service is excellent. We had the 7 course tasting experience with their choice of wine pairings and everything was en-point! The potato spaghetti with peas was probably my favourite course! I'm not a big fan of the usual spaghetti, but I loved this made from potato, and the peas were so fresh and tasty. Another favourite was the duck with orange - perfectly cooked duck and wonderful bitter orange sauce. I would definitely re-visit if in Siena again! One tiny niggle was that I really didn't like the lard they gave us with the bread - I would have preferred olive oil or butter. I asked them to replace it, but they never did.

Nestled in the heart of Siena’s historic center, Gallo Nero is a rare gem that masterfully blends medieval charm with modern elegance. The moment you step inside, the interior design makes an immediate impression — a stunning interplay of exposed stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and ambient lighting that creates an atmosphere both intimate and grand. Many handpicked by its owner from different parts of the world. The décor is a tasteful homage to Siena’s rich history, yet subtly contemporary, with carefully chosen art pieces and sleek furnishings that elevate the entire dining experience. But Gallo Nero is far more than beautiful design — its true innovation lies in the kitchen. The menu is a creative reimagining of traditional Tuscan cuisine, where familiar Each dish is presented like a piece of art, plated with precision and often incorporating surprising elements like edible flowers, fermented accents, or avant-garde textures that push the boundaries of classic Italian fare without ever losing its soul. Among the standouts, the meat-filled ravioli deserves special mention — tender, perfectly seasoned, and complemented by a subtle sauce that enhances rather than overpowers. It’s a comforting dish, elevated by refinement and balance. Desserts continue the restaurant’s theme of innovation. The strawberry dessert is a showstopper — fresh, vibrant, and beautifully layered with textures, from a delicate sponge to a crisp tuile. Paired with their house-made ice cream, which is impossibly smooth and bursting with real fruit flavor, it ends the meal on a high note. Service is warm and knowledgeable, with the team eager to explain the inspiration behind each dish. Gallo Nero isn’t just a meal — it’s a multi-sensory journey that honors tradition while daring to innovate. A must-visit for those seeking something truly special in Siena. This is one of the few places where we eat well and it keeps us talking about it even months and years after

Food that becomes art. A dinner experience to remember. My wife and I came to Sienna for our honeymoon and went to Gallo Nero because they were celiac friendly. From the moment we walked into this restaurant we were immersed in a whole experience - the aesthetics of the space, the attentive service, the table setting - which set the stage for the food. It was the best meal I’ve ever had. And just like the artists crafts the song order of their album, so did Rocco and his service team craft a masterpiece for our pallets. Thank you, thank you, thank you. -Nico & Lisa

The restaurant is very close to the center of Siena. Location is very nice and the staff of the restaurant is very nice and welcoming. All the dishes were well prepared, with great attention to details and the balance of flavors. At the end of the dinner I was really satisfied, excellent quality and quantity of food, good wine and all of that for a reasonable price. If you are in Siena I strongly suggest you to go there and reserve your table for a nice lunch or dinner.

Yelp
We had very little time in Siena, so we used it appropriately and found lunch as our top priority. I loved the underground vibe of the place that celebrates the preserved nature of the building rather than modernizing. The small intimate dining room with romantic lighting is beautiful, and we were happy to get seated immediately without reservations. Service took a long time from start to finish. We waited a long time for water and drinks, waited a really long time in between courses, and even longer for someone to help us settle our tab so we could go. The amuse bouche they brought out was nice, but I wasn't a huge fan of the crispy egg appetizer they recommended. I appreciated the gluten-free options and went for the gf spaghetti with ragout, which was my least enjoyed meal of our trip. The husband's pasta was a bit better, but it was also not great. It's possible we just got the wrong menu items.. because there are a lot of pictures from Yelp and Trip Advisor of peoples meals that look way better than what we ended up with. The main dishes all sounded great too, so maybe we should have skipped the pasta and went for those instead.

Yelp
Beautiful inside and quite upscale. Service was good and the staff was friendly and spoke English well! I do think that the €€ rating should be a €€€

Yelp
Most amazing food and service!!! They were fantastic about accommodating tricky allergies with a big group.

Yelp
This restaurant is a wonderful treat and very different from most of the other meals we had in Italy, in a very positive way. The antipasto are very creative and delicious. I had the crispy egg and it was delicious, earthy, and made of combination of truffles, chocolate, and pastry crumbs that mix with the soft egg. My family enjoyed the crispy rice. Several of us had the beef cheek, which came with a few vegetables (always a treat in Italy). The flavors were strong and distinct, with some subtle spices I could not identify. The desserts were out of this world. Mixtures of chocolate and raspberries and lots more. There was a spoonful of whipped fruit that I cannot identify that was magically delicious. If you go to Siena, this place is a must.

Yelp
We happened upon this gem while strolling around Siena. What an amazing place! The food is fabulous and the presentation is artistic and impressive. We will absolutely return!

Yelp
DON'T. Just don't. We came here because it was the only place with reservations open. I love a nice fine dining experience, and this failed. Ambience was lovely, but this was the LEAST successful meal we had in all of Italy. It just was gross. As small as the plates are, neither of us finished. Too much importance on looks than taste.

Yelp
Gallo Nero was one of the very best restaurants we went to in Italy. Lots of gluten free options (required because of celiac), great wine list and superb service. Presentation was great. Not a pizza/pasta place but they are trying to be creative with their cuisine. We thought the taste was great, but then everyone has their own taste preferences.

Yelp
First place we tried upon arriving in Siena. Quaint atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent food, and reasonably priced. We had both of the specials - duck, truffle, and pasta in a cream sauce and gnocchi stuffed with goose breast that melted in our mouths. Fabulous wine recommendation. And for dessert, chocolate cake, and a peach stuffed tart topped with cream. Espresso. Couldn't have found a better place for lunch. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Good food, decent house wine & lots of gluten free options for our little one. Recommended.

Yelp
We enjoyed two wonderful dinners at Gallo Nero when we stayed in Siena. It is on an old narrow street just off the Campo. The food is outstanding and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We found every dish prepared perfectly, eating there was an amazing experience. All the pasta is home made. One night I had the wild boar stew and my companion the hare ragu, The boar was perfectly tender and lean. The other night we had the ribollita soup course, For the main course I had the guinea fowl and my companion had the ravioli stuffed with ricotta and crispy kale. Everything was wonderful. The wine recommendations were perfect for the meals and the staff was very helpful. The desserts are an excellent way to finish the meal, we had ricotta and chocolate pie one night and chocolate mouse and pears with sweep goat cheese the other. If we were still in Siena we would go back again. Unless you eat early, 7 -7:30, a res is a good idea. Very pleasant relaxed ambiance, not touristy at all. Reasonably priced food and there's wine for every budget.
