Hazardous Air Forces Portland Restaurants to Temporarily Close | Eater Portland

"For Slide Inn owner Eugene Bingham, the weekend was his busiest since the pandemic began: as the restaurant’s only employee he ran the kitchen nonstop, preparing everything from the morning’s salmon hash to the evening’s wiener schnitzel, living a few blocks away so he could respond quickly and calling himself a hard worker even as he shrugged off questions about personal health and exhaustion." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

I don’t normally write many reviews, but I have to share my experience at Kelly Galloup’s Slide Inn on the Upper Madison River — absolutely five stars, and I’d give six if I could. The accommodations are outstanding, and the staff couldn’t be more friendly or helpful. My friend Steve and I make it a point to come here every year to fly fish, and it always feels like coming home. It’s a true back-to-nature experience — peaceful, scenic, and perfectly situated right on one of the best stretches of river anywhere. If you’re looking for a place with TVs and nightlife, Bozeman might be more your speed. But if you want comfort, great lodging, and genuine Montana atmosphere, the Slide Inn is ideal. The cabins have everything you need, and it’s the perfect base for fishing, drifting, or just taking in the beauty of the Madison Valley. Thank you to Kelly Galloup and his excellent team for always making our stay so memorable. Whether you’re an experienced fly angler or just passing through toward West Yellowstone, do yourself a favor and stop by the Slide Inn — you’ll be glad you did. My husband and I had a float trip with Jordan last week and it was such a great day. Jordan was super knowledgeable about the river and despite tough conditions, she put us on some fish. We will 100% be back again one day.

My Gson and I recently stayed at the Slide, fantastic experience from Jake and Kyler in the shop to Kelly himself. Very friendly and helpful. We fished for 3 days with Andrew and had a blast, can't say enough good about him. He was on it every minute, very professional and great to be around. Thanks to the whole crew for a great trip, look forward to next year!!

I was outside in the parking lot changing out of my wading boots when an employee named Will literally ran outside and told me, "don't worry about changing our of you boots! Come on in. " I said, "are you sure? I don't want to be rude." Response? "What kind of a fly shop won't let you wear wading boots?!" That is hard logic to argue with. The staff was helpful but did not hover. They were friendly but clearly are not working from a script. When asking about mallard wings, split shot and silver wire they walked to the spot and showed me - not the usual point one might get. When I asked about trout spey they pulled up Maps, zoomed in and showed me a good spot and pulled out some killer patterns that I bought ... and, when I was leaving they wanted to make sure I knew where the spot was. (Now, it was on a pretty accessible section of the Madison so they def were not hot spotting) When I came in for a 5-wt line they asked good questions and gave me a very nice line that works great on my rod. After buying the line they asked if I had my reel and told me to bring it in. I declined, but the gesture was appreciated. And, maybe most importantly, they never once tried to sell me hoppers or chubbys. Good Lord, if I have one more shop throw 8 hopper or chubby patterns in a puck when I ask for a 'dozen dry flies' I might just kill someone. :) I went to probably 8 fly shops while in MT and ID and would say that the Slide Inn was by far the most like the 'old days' in that they seemed to be in the business of selling fishing gear, not t-shirts. Of course, one thing that is different from the 'old days' is that the staff was welcoming and accommodating to everyone that walked through the door. The attention, friendliness and help I got in the Slide Inn was given to every person that I saw the staff interact with. Keep it up guys! I really enjoyed my time and will definitely be adding the Slide Inn to the small list of fly shops I shop from online. And, I'll see you in person in two years. Hang an 8 pounder in the mean time!

I ordered some flies Online for an upcoming fishing trip. The local shops here in Missoula carry a lot of Kelly's flies, but there are certain ones they do not or are always sold out. They were shipped the same day I ordered them and arrived very quickly. The quality of the flies are outstanding! Can't wait to use them, I would recommend the Slide Inn to anybody looking to order flies online!

Had the most fantastic float trip with Dan yesterday. He provided everything we needed, even a delicious lunch with homemade goodies. Dan is an instructor at heart and provided us with relevant tips for the Madison River and more foundational instruction on form and finesse. Dan was a pleasure to hang out with and knows the river extremely well. We, (two petite women), felt very safe with Dan and he was cognizant of the challenges swift water can present to small women. BUT, more specifically, I caught more fish on that trip, upwards of 15, than on any other guided float trip I've been on! DAN the MAN!

This review is about an online purchase I made from the Slide Inn. I am a huge fan of small business (being one myself) and the way I was treated by the Slide Inn team was a masterclass for all business large or small. I placed an order, through their website, not a big order I might add, maybe a $100 bucks or so of miscellaneous flies (I like the podcast, Kelly & Braeden are awesome, so I wanted to support). What I recieved was the essence of how business should work. I placed said order and thought nothing more of it. Later THAT day I recieved a call from the nicest guy going, he explained they were out of a particular fly I ordered, my rebuttle was (cool, it happens, dealers choice on those). With a bit of laughter and a bit of conversation and a simple good bye, I again thought nothing more of it. Today I recieved my package, only three days later, to Louisville KY. I opened my package to a perfectly wrapped, and clearly packed by someone who gave a damn about my little order. Kelly - credit to you for teaching a team to care, and take care of the customer approach, it still works! To anyone reading this, support Galloups Slide Inn or another small business you like, you'll be glad you did! If we don't, we'll be forced to remember the good Old days of small business and not actively be able to support them, and that will truly be sad. To the group at the Slide Inn, thanks again!

We had an incredible day on the water with Nathan from Kelly Galloup’s Slide Inn. Nathan is an exceptional guide—his deep knowledge of the Madison River and its many moods made all the difference, especially in tough conditions. He worked hard to get us on fish, and the day turned out to be very productive. Nathan offered great tips and tricks for coachable anglers, and his sense of humor kept us laughing from start to finish. He strikes the perfect balance of professional and fun. We will definitely be booking another float with him—highly recommend!

Yelp
Best fly shop hands down. The owner Kelly is always in there even though he doesn't need to be. He is engaging and clearly loves his business. His staff is so polite, friendly and helpful. They never talk down to you or give you bad info. I honestly think this is the only shop that will give it to you straight. They will tell you exactly where to go and what to use and be completely honest about everything even if you are not using their guide service. Everyone is so awesome there, but I want to mention two employees that stood out this last trip, Jeremy and Chuck. Both were extremely personable, and have truly good advice that helped my wife and I up our catch rate exponentially. Love this place and I'll be coming back every single time I'm in the area over any other shop. Great Job Kelly what you've built is incredible!

Yelp
We booked a float trip through the Slide Inn Outfitters to float the Madison on July 30, 2023. Our overall experience was fantastic! Our full day excursion had us floating past a momma moose and her calf lingering in the water to drink. We caught some 20" browns from slingin' some meat at them! We even had to wait out a 30 min storm that blew through with 50mph winds! Andrew and Decline were great and taught us a lot! We hope to be back next year!

Yelp
Best fly shop in the Madison Valley hands down. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Most importantly they know their stuff because they are putting in their own time on the water. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Cool hunting/fishing cabin in the middle of nowhere. Really spacious inside. Somewhat nerve wracking if you're checking in later in the night. It's located about 30 miles/ 30 minutes from west entrance of Yellowstone

Yelp
The Slide Inn is a trout fisherman's paradise away from the crowded streets of town and right on the bank of the Blue Ribbon Madison River. The staff here is absolutely wonderful! The cabins are fully and beautifully furnished to accommodate everything you need to enjoy your stay. Kelly Galloup , the owner and world famous angler , has created the perfect retreat for fishermen and families alike. I look forward to my stay at the Slide Inn every year to visit with Shirley , who makes certain that all of the guests are comfortable and your time there is a pleasurable one. They have RV hook ups and you are literally a stones throw away from the river . I cannot say enough good things about The Slide Inn, Kelly and the staff . Amazing people, amazing place! Don't miss out !

Yelp
Kelly and his awesome staff and facilities made our recent flyfishing excursion to the Madison one of the best ever. Their level of knowledge and helpfulness was outstanding. We stayed for four nights at the nicely appointed "store cabin" , and visited the flyshop each morning before we headed out. Truly enjoyed the flyshop banter, and much appreciated how they spent time time to help us with river and rig tips. A++ for Kelly and the team!

Yelp
If there was a zero, that would of been my review. Granted I was riding my bicycle across country, and may have looked unfit, but hey, I spent $100 3 miles away at the next resort. The owner at the Slide Inn was a total dick. Dismissing me as if I was a hobo, demanding 25$ per tent for a tent site. We had 3 one person tents. He said he was discouraging tent people? His attitude was " go down the street" so we did. Had an amazing time at the place down the street at the Driftwater, and spent a lot more there, and had a great time, and didn't want to leave this resort. Wait till you see the sunset from this valley at the Driftwater.

Yelp
There are not enough words to say how great this place is. We were there for a week during June 2018 and it was absolutely wonderful. The people are extremely helpful, just plain knowledgeable and sooooo nice and friendly! The cabins we stayed in were awesome and we couldn't have asked for anything more (except that AT&T put up a cell tower, but the great free WiFi saved the day!). Thanks to Kelly, Jeffery, Parker, Shirley and the other staff there. Great job all! We will definitely be back. Such a beautiful piece of property and it was fun to get to know the other people staying there as well as the people who work there. Montana friendliness is giving Texas a run for their money! Lol. Ignore the negative comments posted here. Those people are a bunch of SJW's just looking to exhibit their victimhood. Thank God for political incorrectness; anything else descends us further towards tyranny. God bless Slide Inn and God bless America!

Yelp
Just attended the Streamer School. Half day of academics with Kelly and 2 1/2 days of fishing. Kelly's knowledge of trout fishing is encyclopedic. The presentation flowed into the fishing seamlessly. All his guides are in tune with the program and are exceptionally talented. The instruction while fishing is always timely and positive. You can't help but have a great day with these guides. The cabins are very nice- full kitchen, two spacious beds and large bathroom with shower. Everyone we met were very helpful and went the extra mile to make sure we had a great time. I'll be back for sure.

Yelp
We were traveling Cross country, pretty much agenda free and needed a place to stay. Found the Slide Inn via Google search. We're able to get a cabin for the night. Each cabin has its own small kitchen. We had two queen size beds and a bathroom with shower. Right in the Madison River. Vey clean. Staff is very nice and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would chose to stay here again!

Yelp
Couldn't rate a zero but would have. HORRIBLE guides! Was fishing the Madison with a friend from out of town and came upon one of Kelly's guides with clients. My buddy fished a hole above the guide and client when the guide went nuts! He started yelling that the whole stretch of river was his! We respect other fishermen and typically fish a few holes away but claiming a whole stretch of river?!? Then, to top it off the guide yelled, "where are you from, Utah?" So not only was the guide nutty, but biased against people from another state! When 11% of Montana's capital comes from guides and outfitters we don't need guides like this representing the state! If you're fishing the Madison, take the time to drive into West Yellowstone to hire a Professional guide.

Yelp
We rented a house further up the road. We were heading back from West Yellowstone with our groceries. We got this far and realized we didn't have any ketchup! Oh no! We had never stopped into Slide Inn but the sign out front said "cold beer" so maybe they had a mini mart type store. Nope, just flies, gear and beer. I met Kelly, the owner, upon walking in. I asked him for the ketchup, stating I would take packets from McDonalds if they had it, I just didn't want to go back to town. He went to his personal kitchen and offered me his, no charge. That was so nice, he saved our dinner for being dry burgers! Thanks Kelly! That sort of thing does not happen in California, at all. Good people up there in Montana. I went and bought him a new one the next day.
