Where to Drink Bombay Sapphire Sparkling Lemon in Houston This Summer | Eater

"One of the most well-known beaches on the Gulf Coast, Galveston Beach spans 32 miles of coastline, so there’s plenty to explore. Because the beach is nearly an hour’s drive from Houston, an overnight stay may be a smart move, and the Grand Galvez feels tailor-made for a relaxing Texas mini-break. This boutique hotel’s lobby bar offers a 1920s-glam aesthetic and giant arched windows overlooking the water. When you’re sitting on a tufted red velvet sofa enjoying a Bombay Sapphire Sparkling Lemon and staring out at the Gulf waves, the stresses of your Houston work week will feel very far away indeed." - Taylor Tobin

Restaurant Beatrice Introduces a Gulf Seafood Program for all of DFW - Eater Dallas

"Restaurant Beatrice was closed on an afternoon late in February, but the place was far from quiet. The staff at the 2023 James Beard Award nominated restaurant was in an education session with Dr. Vicki Pruente, the director of research for Palacios Marine Agricultural Research. Her organization is all about restoring oyster reefs through new development and restoration. And as oyster farming takes off in Texas after the state began granting licenses in 2019, explaining farmed Gulf oysters to all sorts of folks is a lynchpin in an evolving conversation about Gulf seafood that diners at this restaurant often find themselves having with their server. Beatrice’s owner and chef, Michelle Carpenter, decided to start serving oysters and other seafood from the Gulf to further her restaurant’s sustainability program. “Originally, we didn’t consider using Gulf oysters for raw dishes because of their reputation,” Carpenter tells Eater Dallas, elaborating to say that people getting sick from wild oysters was a problem in the past. “But we dug into the research with Oyster South and were surprised to find out that the cultured oysters from oyster farmers are regulated, tested, and good for the environment.” Good for the environment means good for Galveston Bay, where farmed oysters help stabilize the bay bottom and break the energy from waves, preventing further coastal erosion. They also filter the water, helping to make the bay clearer and cleaner — one oyster filters up to 50 gallons a day. And oyster reefs offer shelter and opportunities to forage for food to an array of fish and arthropods. Additionally, shortening the shipping distance of any seafood is better for the environment and gets the freshest product onto the plates of diners." - Courtney E. Smith

Great Spot, Haven from the hustle. Reminisce of the 1920's, a special, wonderfully kept Grand Ol' Hotel ! An excellent Pre-Cruise respite.

The Sunday brunch buffet was foodie heaven! 😇 There was nothing I didn’t love from start to finish! 😍 The prime rib, potato soufflé and omelet deserved seconds! 😋 The dessert bar was a dream, I enjoyed everything I chose from it! 🤤 The food, service, atmosphere were all fabulous! 🤗 I don’t even drink alcohol but I figured “why not” since this special occasion exceeded my expectations! 😜

Came here today for Valentine's Day brunch. While I'm not excited about driving 1.5 hours to go have brunch, I am beyond elated that I made the decision to head there. Reservations are required, and as they get closer to the summer it will be busier and busier. Per Nicky, the waiter we had today who was a gem. I eat pretty clean and well during the month but not this day. Spending 80 bucks a person, I am eating my weight in carbs, and fat. And they have plenty of each. And lots of desserts to top it off. You walk into a beautiful old hotel right across from the beach. Great entrance, friendly people. Inside we were seated in a circle booth then the debauchery began. Crab legs, shrimp, and oysters are what greet you under a ice sculpture. A funny table with some green stuff on it that I paid zero attention to. A bread station. Then on the left you had eggs, bacon, sausage, and a eggs Benedict. Mashed potatoes, jerk chicken , biscuits and gravy I'm sure I missed something but it's all in the photos. On the right there is a omelet bar, a pasta bar, and a waffle bar. And I'm not exactly what crack they put in that batter but I had two waffles. Two. Melted butter on top and syrup was great. They have fried chicken there as well, tried it. Not my favorite. The pork tenderloin bar and the prime rib bars were awesome. But the dessert? The dessert hall was great. Stuffed cupcakes, cream puffs, whoopee pies. Just look at the photos. They will say more than I can. Wait staff. Now I have read some reviews that they were attentive or cleaned up plates very often but this wasn't my experience. Felt they did an exceptional job at making sure the table was cleared and cleaned. Will I come back? A question I always try to answer at the end of my reviews; and a resounding yes. Expensive. Sure. Good ROI for the food options there? Absolutely. It's a treat and you should treat yourself.

Restaurant being inside of Grand Galvez makes it very beautiful and a very aesthetic location. It is VERY COLD inside. Food, while fine, is overpriced for what it is. Food is very generic, but written off as luxury.

What a fun night, a friend and I stopped in and had a couple of drinks at the bar, the bar manager was great, she made us this Irish coffee at the end of the night and it was really good! It was decorated beautifully for Christmas!

Food was very good. First time going, and we will definitely go back. There were 2 weddings at the same time so we did not get to experience the bar but we had a lot of fun anyway. Sitting sipping a digestive outside looking at the sunset was spectacular.

Google
I would have given it a 5 star but for the service. Busy weekend, understandably .... memorial weekend was when we were down there. We were going to Millers but didn't have any reservation and it was packed. So we went here. They were able to seat us quickly. 15 minutes in, all the food servers were just walking past us. I finally flagged one. She said she'll call our waiter. She came back in a few minutes and said she'll serve us instead. Beyond that, we enjoyed the food. The crab cake was yum, real crab meat. i had the shrimp and grits. Hubby some hamburger and salad. Little one, chicken fingers, of course. We'll peobably go back for the food when we go down there again. Hopefully, service would be better.

My new favorite place in Galveston. We enjoyed the Sunday brunch. It was amazing and had everything brunch should have: breakfast, pasta, seafood, select meats, fruit, dessert, bottomless mimosas, top knotch service in a beautiful, glamorous, decoratively ornate historic hotel. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
I came here with my boyfriend after an evening out in Galveston. We started at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready and had a few glasses of wine. For dinner I ordered the Caesar salad with shrimp which was good, but not something I would go out of my way to get again. However, the restaurant is beautiful and it's a nice place to take a date. I would come back again to try something else on their menu.

Yelp
The infamous Galvez Sunday Brunch Buffet, oh how I've heard so much about thee!! My friend and I did a staycation on Galveston Island and decided to treat ourselves to the Galvez brunch cause we've had it on our to-do list for like 10 years! Lol! We dressed up and ventured over to the Galvez.. I believe valet parking is complimentary for 2 hours with brunch! The buffet offered a huge selection, an omelette bar... a pasta bar.. all the snow crabs and lox bagel station you can eat! A long hall full of hot foods and then another room filled with dessert! They have a bottomless mimosa though it was a bit light on champagne. Service wasn't the greatest cause each server gets a section of the restaurant and ours came by maybe twice the whole time we were there! Maybe they just have way too many tables assigned to them but we didn't get our drinks and water for quite some time! Ask for warm butter for your crab legs!! Overall, it was a decent experience but the food was mediocre.. as expected of a buffet and there honestly wasn't that much I wanted to eat to make the price worth it. The restaurant was inside the hotel but the decor was a bit lacking for how extravagant the hotel boasts to be! I wouldn't go out of my way to brunch here but if you love buffets, maybe it'll be more your jam than mine.

Yelp
Stopped for a cocktail at the beautiful lobby bar. The bartender was quite talented (dude with the hat) and the drinks were excellent. It's a gorgeous space with comfy seating and a terrific vintage vibe. Nice place to relax and chat with friends. No TV :)

Yelp
What a treat! Very cool vibe, beautiful hotel, comfy seating, nice music and great people watching! Our group went for a cocktail, had a few delicious appetizers and enjoyed the piano man and his music! A most enjoyable experience!

Yelp
We've been here twice and the first time was amazing And the second time not so much! I done recommend having a large party because they can't keep up with the service even though you'd think they would be able to. Drinks are amazing but bartenders aren't very friendly. Food is good. A little $$ but expected. I love the ambience of the hotel and bar!

Yelp
Great Sunday brunch, ghost time in Galveston. Galveston has had several spooks! Food is 5 star, brunch buffet so great service!

Yelp
The Galvez hotel is beautiful and I definitely recommend anyone to go and check it out. Unfortunately, the Galvez bar and Grill was not very good. I ordered a dozen oysters and some of them tasted very dank. I also ordered a Caesar salad that was just OK for the price. I would've gone somewhere else. That being said, it is a beautiful space lots of history and definitely recommend walking around the Galvez and maybe just getting a drink.

Yelp
Bernardo's BlackBerry lemonade with whiskey instead of vodka & Espresso Martini with tequila instead of Vodka Pretty tasty!

Yelp
After the reno, sadly the service has gone super downhill. The bar is full on a Sunday evening with 1 bartender!! Poor guy is busting his a$$! Didn't bother to tell me he was out of egg whites for a drink that doesn't taste the same without egg white. No good. Not his fault, he is overwhelmed. Been coming here for yrs. Sad to see it like this.

Yelp
We had our Book Club Christmas lunch here on Thursday at noon. Not busy at all. We were seated right away in this beautiful restaurant inside this 1911 built grand hotel. Our book for this month was "Saltwater and Driftwood" which took place on Galveston Island in 1900. It was a great place to discuss the book. It felt like we were dining somewhere special in that same era. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was wonderful. Our only complaint was that it was really cold in the restaurant so we all had to keep our coats on. The hotel was really decorated nicely for the holidays.

Yelp
January 15, 2021 Went for the all you can eat shrimp for $18.95...they were big and fresh...well worth the money. I got about 40 shrimp...you get 10 per plate. Add the ghost bride martini and all is right with the world. Get this special while you can...everyday from 5-8p Free valet with validation from restaurant. Please tip them though. I've been to the bar for HH which is great during the week...and I've eaten here in the restaurant for the ghost tour the hotel has (or used to have) and it's always been good. There were a lot of people here too...(spread out of course) and Covid protocols were in place big time.

Yelp
Inside Galvez Hotel. Nice decor. Great lighting. Make resi and ask for the table by the window if this is for a romantic outing. (They only have tables for 2 by the window.) Pretty penny, so not for the faint of heart. A big spread, but food was okay. We came for the seafood - fresh (raw) oysters, crab legs, shrimp. If not for that, it would not be worth the price. Gumbo tasted a bit burnt. The beef was dry. Salad options good. Some of the dishes included biscuit or bread that was in the chafing dish and became soggy. They do have a hot make as you go pasta and omelet station that we did not partake so cannot say either way. Cookies were yummy, but cupcakes were dry and overly sweet. Unlimited mimosas was a plus. Valet parking validated by the restaurant, so do not forget to ask. Waitstaff polite and professional, not overly attentive. Overall was a great experience, but for the price, come when seafood available.

Yelp
I love this hotel and bar. We come every spring for my birthday. The bar has always been speedy and the staff is always welcoming and sweet. Even though the fries are little shoe strings you'll fill up on the amazing burger anyways! The hotels history and beauty make the experience great as well as their consistency in great food. Not to mention its MANY great views

Yelp
Some time ago, I visited here with 3 other friends on my birthday. Also, we were finishing up our program at University of Texas Medical Branch and wanted to celebrate. We ordered drinks and the waiter spilled the drinks on the table and in my lap and on my phone. No one apologized to me or checked in that we were okay. I had to point out to the waiter and the possible manager busily cleaning up the floor that they spilled it on me. To which they replied, "oh it got on you, we didn't realize" and were very unapologetic. They were too busy trying to clean up the spill and the broken glass on the floor. I was shocked and upset that tears came to my eyes and said to them both that "Its my birthday and for this to happen is making me upset". The man, who I believe was apart of management, ignored me and did not apologize and rushed away. The server however did apologize at that moment. However, our table mats were still wet and under our plates were still wet. They never came and cleaned our table and removed the wet mats. They could see our menus were still wet and left them. No napkins were offered to help me clean myself up. We should have left at this moment. I regret that we didn't. We were just trying to brush it off and still trying to have a good day. In addition, All our dishes were subpar and lukewarm. The other 3 in my party did not really enjoy their food. As you can see in the photo the potatoes/hash were pale and under-seasoned. When we got the bill, I thought the manager would come out and apologize and AT LEAST the drinks would be removed from the check. Nothing was removed from the check. Back then I should have demanded to speak to the manager and share about the poor way the restaurant and its staff addressed the situation and treated me. That I had to sit at a sticky wet table, with a wet lap, with no apology, and then pay for a subpar experience and food. I did not do that because I was so embarrassed, shocked, and unexperienced with how to handle the situation. I also didn't want to further draw attention to myself or my table. I regret that. All I could think "I can't believe this is happening to me and this restaurant really doesn't value me as a customer". We were very upset and we decided that we would never go to this restaurant again. UTMB students, be warned!

Yelp
Love the architecture, the vintage feel and the piano player in the front lobby. We made reservations at the restaurant for the final day of our trip. When I told the front desk we had reservations in the restaurant, they replied with, "oh, you're here for brunch" and directed us to the brunch sign in. Of course our name wasn't on that list, the hostess did not find our name but she wrote up a card for us and we were seated promptly. The brunch setup was beautiful, extravagant and the food was awesome. Wide selection. I wish at the time, I had known that the restaurant and brunch were two separate areas because the bill was outside of our budget and it was our first time so we did not know.

Yelp
We went to try the special that Hotel Galvez had offering a All-You-Can-Eat Shrimp and Fries Special for $18.95/pp. First, Interior-Wise, the Galvez Hotel is a beautiful piece of history that I think everyone should take a look at as the hotel is over 100 yrs old. The inside also reminds me of a old 40's hotel with a modern touch as the interior to me reflects old Hollywood Glamour. I was waiting for the Rat Pack to stumble out any minute- I say this in a good way! Now to the food... I believe all you can eat is always well spent money. The shrimp were battered well and it just needed a ...touch... of spice. The batter was bIand, but the shrimp were nicely sized. I had no issues with the fries and I thought they were cute because they were little tiny cut fries. I would come back again, especially during the holidays because the food lounge is so classy and cozy. Another cute date-night location!

Yelp
We've enjoyed brunch several times this year. Celebrating birthdays and bringing friends who visit us on Galveston. We like the monarch room and the ice sculptures! The food is top notch, the setting is amazing. The new owners of the Galvez are bringing true high end culture and history to it. We usually have Alex or Alexandru as a waiter, he's fantastic. Management if you read this, give this guy our praise and appreciation! Our family favorite foods are the ice bar (smoked salmon!), and the prime rib. The kids love the pasta bar, desert table and crab.

Yelp
Review is for the Sunday brunch. Great selections. Crab clusters, oysters, shrimp, prime rib, pasta station, omelette station, so much to pick from. Massive dessert table too including several cheesecakes. I had a little bit of everything and left stuffed. Ambiance is nice and relaxed with a good view. Service was fine. Overall, it's kind of pricey but maybe every once in a while I'd go back.

Yelp
Now called The Monarch Restaurant in The Hotel Galvez. Wonderful food and fantastic service!

Yelp
Here's how it started... waiting in line for a drink. Bartender yells last call at 10:30. He told the people behind me that it was too late to serve them. Did I mention it was 10:30?? I've been coming here for years and I see all the changes they've implemented, and I guess bad service is one of them one. Especially the bartending service. It's the worst I have ever seen in the past seven years of coming to the Galvez I used to love coming down stairs for a drink now I would rather go anywhere else. Great way ruin anniversary drinks

Yelp
BEST BRUNCH IN TEXAS! I am so incredibly full after eating at the Galvez for Sunday brunch. I am up in my room lying on my bed writing this, and will soon require a nap. There are so many options and stations. Quick rundown of their best selections (IMO): Meat carving station with some of the best glazed ham I've had in years. Seafood station with oysters on the half shell, crab legs, and shrimp. The longest dessert table you'll see at a brunch complete with many GF offerings (creek brûlée, berries and cream, fruit mousse parfait). Some of the best mashed potatoes I've ever had, and that's saying something. They are smoked Gouda mashed potatoes and I went back for seconds! Gloriously creamy thick texture with just the right amount of chucks and pieces of skin. Plus...bottomless mimosas! The whole experience is topped off with a great sea view (if you make a reservation). The only cons were the loud pop music (not what I would have picked for the occasion) and the freezing cold room (probably to get you to leave and stop drinking champagne!). Not a budget meal by any means ($45) but definitely worth the splurge!

Michael S.

Yelp
HOTEL GALVEZ. Is past its PRIME.... Can't rely on its past GLORY. I had booked a reservation for 4 people for the Sunday brunch with Matt.. We were there and previewed the food. One of the main items is prime rib.... Everything looked normal and. ordered an omelette. When I went to the prime rib section, the server was waiting for the next serving of prime rib. She cut into the prime rib and was well done. Another server came to the station and stated that all the prime rib had been overcooked. I went to the front and informed a gentleman of the issue at hand. He stated that he would take care of the problem. Unfortunately, they brought a little piece which was probably a leftover from the prior prime rib. I then proceeded to the crab section and took a couple of crab legs. When I bit into the crab legs, it was frozen. Needless to say, i did not eat the prime rib or crab legs. What a disappointment..... I called and left messages with Matt and the front desk. I never received any response.. In conclusion, the GRAND GALVEZ is past its prime...... Michael S

Yelp
My husband and I arrived promptly at 6:00pm for our 6:00pm reservation. Even with heavy rain and NO VALET parking we were on time. We were given a hotel room key and an umbrella, so we could self park in their parking garage--still an inconvenience. When we arrived at the restaurant we waited 5-10 minutes for a host to seat us. Initially, we were seated in a dark corner booth. Since it was our anniversary we asked to be reseated at a table by the window, which we were. Next I ordered a cocktail and my husband ordered a beer, which was the best part of this restaurant experience. The menu had limited items so we opted for the fried "all you can eat" shrimp and a plate of grilled shrimp. The fried and grilled shrimp were nothing special and probably frozen, bland tasting and not fresh. Finally, we shared a slice of tasty chocolate mousse cake for dessert, which was good. My husband and I expected an upscale meal in a Wyndham hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary but instead we felt like we were eating at a snack bar. This evening was a major disappointment for us. Also, this disorganized restaurant contacted open table and reported us as a "no show" for our 6:00 pm reservation. I "WISH" that we never showed up.

Yelp
Based on its name, since we are Galvez! LOL Looking for a place to eat we read reviews about this place and decided to try it. We had read that an employee by Nannette was such a great waitress; well she was! Super friendly, and so good at making sure we had everything we needed. The food was amazing! We he size of my steak was huge and even after sharing with my husband we took it leftovers. The kids chicken tenders were good too. The atmosphere was classic, and elegant. We enjoyed our food, so if you'd like a place for fine dining try it!

Yelp
Slow service and false advertising on the menu. All the fries came out cold and my market catch salad for $25 included 3 shrimp , a tiny piece of red fish and mixed greens. The menu claims "crispy seasonal vegetables". When I asked about this they said yes mixed greens with cabbage is crispy seasonal vegetables.

Yelp
Breakfast, so so. I missed seeing bagels & lox on the menu.Nothing very tempting kind of dull. My husband was disappointed they served link breakfast sausage and he'd like patty sausage. Also toast was cold We were too early for the brunch that started maybe at 11-2pm. Dinner I enjoyed a Cesar salad with giant shrimp it was awesome. So good I've forgotten what my husband ordered. Oh a hamburger, it was neat and very good.

Yelp
Horrible customer rude. This is the state of Texas and it is 103 degrees outside. You turn away a Hispanic couple for wearing khaki shorts and a polo but let a white couple in with shorts.

Yelp
The Sunday, champagne brunch is a must experience. It is very popular, and reservations are required. The hours are 11:00 am to 2 pm every Sunday. It costs $45 but worth every penny. The Hotel Galvez, opened in 1911, is a classic European style hotel and lobby. The setting is stunning, immaculate with no detail left undone. At the entrance, the plates are on the right, on the left, you begin with appetizers, salads, smoked salmon, followed by yes, shrimp, raw oysters and crab. The hot dishes follow with gumbo, breakfast foods, pork, and seafood entrees. And if that is not enough, behind you, on the right, an omelet station and of course, a pasta bar. It doesn't stop there, the ham and roast beef carving station finishes your meal. Not everything is perfect, but it is all very good. You arrive at your table and met with endless champagne and mimosas. The experience finishes with your choice of dozens of dessert items. Our good fortune didn't just end with meal, but the service was impeccable. We were treated by Nanette, who fulfilled all of our unreasonable requests. Our table remained clean and our glasses were full. She was a total delight. If you a regular to Galveston and especially a onetime visitor, make sure you are there on Sunday.

Yelp
This one was a typical Hotel bar/grill. Good quality was marginal and service was spotty. We had a large group of 9 and the waiter kept disappearing for long periods; and then reappear and act as if he didn't know we needed service or refills. The food was lukewarm, not hot. Quality was okay, it seemed that a lot of the food was frozen and then microwaved. Nothing was special.

Yelp
Decided to eat here after walking the sea wall and finding everyone had over an hour wait. Should have known this wasn't the place to eat considering every other place on the wall was packed, but Galvez was empty. I got the fish and chips, wife got the seafood sampler. My order was huge, big portion of fries "like a half a pound" and two large pieces of fish, my wife's sampler was also huge. The let down was the texture and flavor "or lack there of." My fish was mushy in the middle, and no real seasoning to be tasted. My wife's plate was the same. I'm beginning to think the fries were there to soak up the grease. Great service, huge portions, overpriced flavor-less food.

Yelp
I could not be happier with the experience we have had over the last two days here. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the service is amazing, the food is spectacular, the drinks are well made and pack a punch, the beautiful piano music relaxing...just overall a wonderful experience! I have two things to rave about. First and foremost is the service we received from Lois in the bar area. She was on top of everything and made us feel like we were her favorite customers. I can't even begin to describe how wonderful she is and welcome she made us feel. Absolutely the best service we have had...maybe ever. FANTASTIC!!! Second is the fresh fish from the market. Redfish and Red Snapper were the choices, caught, cleaned and cooked daily. You can choose how you want it cooked: grilled, broiled or blackened. I chose the Red Snapper, blackened, and it was so fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned that I had to have it two nights in a row. Everything we ate here was absolutely delicious. I can't wait to come back and do this all again sometime!!

Yelp
The place itself was lovely. Open space. The wine list was good and had good rates. The cornbread they give you with jalapeno jam wass great. We ordered gumbo and shrimp n grits. The gumbo was not the best the rue was super dark and only tasted of salt and pepper. It was very bland. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, the grits were cooked perfectly but the sauce was too sweet and I couldn't finish it. We didn't finish our meal due to taste. Too bad because it had promise but missed the mark.

Yelp
Never knew who our waiter was service was so slow food was cold overall not good experience.

Yelp
I have been frequenting this bar and grill for the last 3 years. The bar itself is better than previous old bar before the renovation. The food is good but only average in my opinion. The drinks are good but quality depends on the bartender who makes them. Good atmosphere and is very lively on the weekends.

We really enjoyed the Sunday Brunch in the Hotel Galvez. Seafood, prime rib, breakfast, pastries, pasta even a Sunday bar for the kids. Everything was very fresh and well prepared. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
My team and I went here for lunch and they had a great lunch special. The special came with an ice tea or coffee, corn muffins (delicious, you can't just have one so request more), a dish and dessert, bread pudding. I ordered the fish tacos and it was amazing. It had a good kick to it because of the jalapenos. The bread pudding was a good size after eating the corn muffin and fish taco. Also, the bread pudding was not too sweet but just right. We are planning on going back soon.

Yelp
I 'm always suspicious of a few bad reviews in the middle of good reviews. have figured out those people can be made happy. Very easy to spot them. The snake eye the prices first, wear the servers our asking stupid questions and grand finale is when they send their back for coming out excactly as they ordered it.

Yelp
Fabulous meal, great service! The hotel bar is filled with chandeliers, it's amazing, rich with history! Add the hotel and bar to your bucket list! It's kid friendly. I saw so many beautifully dressed young families! Awesome!

Yelp
We weren't expecting much due to many aspects. It was late, reduced menu, reduced staff, hotel restaurant, not very busy, etc. Don't let first impressions fool you! I know it sounds crazy but I prefer a sandwich to a burger. The Cavalla sounded pretty good so I took a chance and wow! Who knew a turkey club could taste so good? This ones piled high with avocados, onions, fresh tomatoes and lettuce and a sauce to die for. The tortilla chicken tasted ...for lack of a better word- green. That's not a bad thing! It was great. Just definitely not what we were expecting. Don't order if you plan on seeing a Mexican chicken dish, because that's not what you'll get. Instead you'll get rice pilaf in a savory spinach sauce under two perfectly seasoned chicken breasts covered in pico de gallo, a sweet brown sauce (not mole!), avacados, and crushed tortilla chips. It was amazing. Portions were just right and the taste was spot on. Not ashamed to say we ate here twice in one week.

Yelp
Easter brunch was awesome! Missed going the last couple of years. It was overwhelming the choices. Breakfast or lunch?? Tried to regulate myself but was impossible. The dessert choices were very good. My favorite was the chocolate flourless cake. Husband loved the bananas foster.

Yelp
Cannot say enough about the Queen of the Gulf! Best drink ever!!!! Bartender covered at least 30 guest at a time all with a smile.

Yelp
People rave about brunch at the Galvez & we were pretty disappointed. Everyone from the hostess to cooks running the food stations seemed to want to be anywhere else, the wait staff was very busy & at times no where to be found, other guests were stacking up plates on empty tables The food was ok but nothing outstanding. I liked to fresh pasta station but it wasn't even warm after the chef plated it. I really wished we had a better experience.

Yelp
Thanksgiving dinner was extremely long waits even after seating. Rocking tables and wobly chairs made the wait even worse. 35 minutes from time of seating until salad arrived. No bread. Another 40 minutes until main course arrived AFTER finishing with salad. Food was very good but crammed 4 items onto one plate. Desert was another 30+ minutes and then wrong. Seems they were not prepared at all. Drove a long way to enjoy Thanksgiving here...wasted that dream. Shame the hotel gets a bad wrap because of this. I've now been here at my reserved table 2 hours...and I'm still waiting for the right desert. Sad. We won't be back.

Yelp
Worst service in the island. 40 mins for burger and fries. Was not on brioche bun. Crab cakes tasted awful and ignored most of the time sitting at the table. Asked for side of Mayo. They brought plastic packs of sisco mayonnaise. Needs a new manager bad.

Yelp
We went here for our anniversary. The wait to sit was quite long even though we had a reservation. Given that a meal for two costs us roughly $130, I would have expected the food and patronage to be a bit more upscale. People came in straight from the beach, which is no issue but not what we would expect for such a high priced venue. There were also 4 weddings this weekend so far which we were told caused a huge menu item shortage for the restaurant. Service was extremely slow. Just a refill on a glass of water took over 25 minutes. Will not be returning unfortunately.

Yelp
Spent a weekend at the Galvez and ate several meals there so I got a pretty good overview. First, the Sunday brunch is the way to go. It's a fantastic array of cheeses, lox station, salads, raw seafood bar, fruits, different hot entrees, pasta station, omelet station, carved meats, desserts, etc. The food quality was very good! I was afraid it would be one of those buffets where things look good but taste just ok, but it was very tasty. Our server was attentive and generous with the mimosa/champagne refills. It's also very pretty if you sit in the main room with a view of the water. The regular restaurant menu was just OK. I had the cobb salad, which was good but very small for $20 and not that filling. The bar menu was the most hit or miss. The calamari was OK, the fish tacos were not good at all (over-grilled in a too sweet sauce), the flatbread was delicious. The drinks were all good and some yummy nuts/snack mix come with any drink. It's also really pleasant to hear the musicians play in the evening. Atmosphere is really lovely. The hotel is beautiful and the views and architecture make it worthwhile if you aren't staying at the hotel. Service was above average for a hotel bar/restaurant. Definitely come for Sunday brunch or a drink at the bar.

Yelp
We were seated quickly, drink orders taken, 45 minutes later. STILL NO DRINKS! When my brother went to the bar to ask after our drinks, he was told to SIT DOWN. He was not being rude in anyway. Our food took an hour. The restaurant was not busy. The food was cold and steaks over cooked. The waitress was very nice and attentive, but the kitchen and bar were horrible. Beautiful restaurant, but we won't go again.
