"Over in Jefferson Park, Galvin’s is the place to visit for fried fish. The kitchen serves beer-battered Atlantic cod, and it’s the $14 house special on Fridays." - Ashok Selvam, Eater Staff

Irish bar with live music being played. They have a nice patio with games. Nice outdoor area to hangout with lights at night. Parking available. There’s also an indoor fireplace. No reservation needed. Full bar available and they also serve food like sandwiches, burgers, fries, fish and chips and brownie sundae. Good collection of beers and hard liquor.

This place looked great online. Went inside and it was crusty as all hell. Also, they tend to sneak sips out of customers drinks…

Google
Buffalo chicken wrap was really good! Not to mention that you can get tater tots as a side - Love those little pillows of deliciousness.. pretty decent manure of beers also... And if you like the my favorite murder podcast, I find some nice writing in the men's bathroom lol...

First time there seem the pandemic. Was quiet, clean & the food was hot & delicious! Fish & chips were awesome, flaky & the portion was enough for 2 people. Also had the steak tacos. The steak was nice & tender. Will be back

I love the beer, the atmosphere, and the food. But I hate the service I always get. I sit outside and it took this waitress over 20min to come back to come my table. That could be a make or break it for me.

Google
I ordered the corn beef sandwich and a shepherds pie the shepherds pie I will admit was good but the corn beef on marble rye was a poor excuse for a sandwich they should be ashamed for calling that a sandwich the meat tasted old and rubbery like it was cooked in a microwave the fries were super greasy and soggy I ate 2 and spit it out so gross 🤢 they need to clean out their fryers because man I could taste the fish they use for the fish and chips. Also the servers didn’t seem too friendly. For an Irish pub they sure can’t make good Irish food. On a bright note the bar itself is nice but the food and service is not.

Google
March 17th and the place isn’t close to full…red flag. I’ve been coming here for 20+ years but today is my last visit. Guinness , not even a pint (12 oz.? Plastic cup ) but charged as much as a pint. Food- corned beef sandwich was chipped scrap and less that 5 oz. It was more like a marble rye sandwich. Shepards pie was bland and instant potatoes and very disappointing. They should be embarrassed at the prices they are charging for this sub par food. Sorry to say but I will not be returning, and it’s a shame as this used to be such a great neighborhood stop.

Met some friends for a small reunion. We had an amazing time at Galvin’s. The service was awesome! Appetizers were delicious! You won’t go wrong with the chips and salsa. Absolutely delicious!!! The Christmas decorations and lights, and that beautiful fireplace, just made our night more memorable! It’s an amazing place to go for a fun time with friends!

Yelp
Really great authentic Irish bar! The Guinness is fresh and cold. Definitely some of the best I have had and I have had Guinness everywhere! I ordered a plate of fries that were tasty and went great with the Guinness! The fried were fresh and hot and the plate was huge! Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
We were in town from Florida visiting family. This was a close walk and the food was delicious and the portions were generous. Handmade chips were awesome! Prices are reasonable for being in the Chicago area. Happen to be here on the 2nd Thursday of the month, so the margaritas were only $5 and they have bingo if you're into that. Very quaint and friendly Irish Pub!

Yelp
During these tough time Galvin's really stepped up-to the plate and has continued to provide great service on my parents neighborhood and the staff is incredibly friendly and quick. Their food is just as good as you would hope. Everything I've had in the last couple of weeks on Sundays for football has been nothing but the best. There is parking in the rear and had a back entrance as well. The bathrooms are clean which is always a big deal for me. It's got that warm cozy feeling inside. It is not dark but all the wood is so it is not hard on your eyes at all. The beer is fairly cheap and the food is also fairly priced and good quality. You won't be disappointed coming here for a quick meal or spending a couple hours here to relax and unwind.

Yelp
If you are not white don't go to this place. Racist vibes. I have lived In the area for over 20 years and due to covid I decided to give this place a try. The food is good, but the service sucks if you don't fit in the white crowd. Too bad, I'll take my money where they make you feel welcomed. I have been to worse places with great costumer service. Waited 30 minutes to even get a menu. A white couple walks in and gets a menus right away while we still sat with no menus. We didn't complain, we observed and patiently waited. They tell you to support local business but local businesses only want certain people. I'm a female, Hispanic first responder just in case anyone is wondering.

Yelp
Came on a Tuesday night for the 3$ burger special. Big burger! Old style tall boys for $2. Miller drafts $3. Good night to stop in...will again. Tip: cheese .50 extra, bacon $1, tots or fries like 2.25

Pat G.

Yelp
You would never know from the outside that this is more than an Irish pub. The food at Galvin`s is great! We go regularly during Lent for their fish fry-delicious beer battered cod. Tonight I had a burger and honestly, one of the best burgers I've ever tasted. Done to perfection, juicy, seasoned so well on a perfect bun. The food never disappoints. Pub atmosphere with outstanding food. It's a little hidden gem.

Yelp
Galvin's is one of my favorite spots to grab a pint (of cider, as I can't drink beer anymore) on the city's Northwest side. What's to love? + The most friendly staff! Galvin's is owned by a strong, fearless woman, and this theme of bad-assery resonates throughout the team (which mostly seems to hail straight from Ireland, FWIW). + The food is excellent, and is made from scratch. That means hand-cut fries, soul-warming soups and their signature dish: the Irish nachos! You must try this dish: picture traditional nachos, but on housemade potato chips. Who knew? + The prices are legit and they feature awesome specials on most weekdays. $2 burgers anyone? + Great atmosphere. I once spent a couple hours here before a concert, and then returned afterward for another few hours! It's a fun room to sit in and chat with other friendly patrons. You'll never be bored, that's for sure! Come for the drinks and eats, stay for the conversation.

Meg D.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. Neighborhood pubs are my favorite and the outside looked so cute. The service was average - nothing notably bad or good. The food was well below average. The Irish Nachos were lacking cheese and weren't cooked all the way. Instead of scallions, there were cut up yellow onions and we weren't told ahead of time. The shepard's pie was fresh. You could tell it had been microwaved. The inside was steaming hot but outside was cold. We were watching the Hawks game and the screens froze in the middle of the third period right after the opposing team scored. Nobody on the staff seemed concerned or bothered to fix it. Disappointing!

Patricia M.

Yelp
I've been coming here for a while with a friend for food and drinks. This is our go to spot when we just want to grab drinks for like an hour and not have to really dress up. The owner and Fiona are super nice. I enjoy sitting outside on the patio on a nice evening. What I really love here is the buffalo chicken wrap! Majority of the time everywhere I go, I order some kind of wrap. There are days when I just want a galvins buffalo wrap so bad and I'll come here for it. Drink prices are very decent as well. The bartender is always nice enough to make me mimosas at night :)

Yelp
I went to this place one day after work and was not impressed by any means. When me and a buddy walked in, there was a table in the back that needed to be cleaned off. When we finally got the attention of the server Catherine, as rude and flustered as she was, she grabbed two glasses off the table and walked away. At this point, I had to ask for napkins and use my glass of water to wet the table, then wipe it down. She never once thought to wipe the table down. When she finally made it to my table to take our orders, my buddy was asking her questions about the hamburgers and with a nasty attitude, she answered his questions. At this point, he and I were thinking of just leaving and giving our money to another establishment, but we decided to stick around, hoping that the service would get better, which it didn't. It almost seemed as if Catherine was new to this serving thing and didn't understand that personality helps when doing this job. Now, there was this other server in the place that was taking care of all of her tables, with no problem. My buddy and I even joked about moving to her section or even tipping her, instead of Catherine. Thinking back, we should have moved to her section. Well, from this terrible experience with Catherine, we won't be back and if we do decided to give it one more shot, we will look for the waitress that is a step above Catherine.

Alexi A.

Yelp
I would give this place a 5 stars because that weekend night they had this band second hand soul and they played pretty well most of it was retro but it turned up the place. The food was great I had burgers and the plating was good so as the flavor. The waitress was so nice and checked on us every once in a while. She got everything covered. Oh this place accepts Groupon so it's a plus.

Bella V.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't reviewed Galvin's yet! I live in the neighborhood and have been coming here for years, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. There have been some moderations since the change of ownership a couple of years ago, and they're ALL GOOD! The food is delicious. You can tell that the chef really takes pride in what he makes, and there are seasonal specials daily. On Tuesdays they have the biggest, juiciest burgers you can get for $2. On Wednesdays they have 50c jumbo wings (and they really are jumbo). I recommend the Jameson flavored. They're my favorite. They also have trivia on Wednesday nights and it's a blast! I know they have specials other days of the week, but I'm not sure what they are. My favorite dish is the bangers & mash. The mash is made in house, and it shows. The bangers are made LOCALLY and you can definitely taste the difference. The staff is so friendly. Come here a couple times, and you'll be remembered by name. They make you feel at home right away. The same goes with the regular patrons. I've never been one to go to bars alone, but I feel 100% comfortable going into Galvin's for a pint or a cup of tea and dessert by myself. In fact, I've met some really great people this way! They even have a VERY nice party room you can book with a private bar and restroom. I'm actually having my baby shower there next month! Whether you're looking for a family pub for dinner, a place to get together and socialize and catch a game, or a good time with great live music on a Saturday night, Galvin's is the place.

Melody C.

Yelp
I ordered the bangers and mash through ubereats and it was delicious! It tasted fresh and perfect for a stormy day

Yelp
Have to reiterate what a truly great place this is. Not only is the food excellent, prices are reasonable, specials are spectacular. Susan is awesome. I'm hoping that Megan will read this review because I want to say again what a really GREAT server she is, along with her GREAT personality. Megan YOU'RE THE BEST!!!!!

Barbara J.

Yelp
First time there today . It was awesome ! The best patty melt I've ever had . & our server was very nice ! Will definitely go back !

Natalie S.

Yelp
I don't know what I was expecting but I was a little disappointed. My dude and I bought a house a block away and had been meaning to check out our closest watering hole for a long time but, you know, we've got some kids and stuff and they don't go well with bars. So we finally had a night alone and went in to check it out. The bartender was a big meh. She spent the night chatting up some guy and left us hanging often. She was not at all friendly to us. No big deal, she's just there to serve up the drinks. I think the most disappointing thing for us was the dart set up. We throw in a dart league and when we heard this place had darts we were excited. But the dart set up is terrible, in order to play we would have had to hover over a couple having drinks at a table. That wasn't happening. So we had to skip that. There was a guy on guitar and while I don't normally like live music in bars (I feel it's usually too loud and I don't go to bars to shout over my friends), this guy wasn't too bad and he wasn't screaming so I could still sit and chat with my dude. Like I said, it's the closest bar to us so we'll probably be back eventually, I'm not scrambling to find a sitter to come so we can go.

Tim M.

Yelp
Food is really good. Service absolutely sucks. Unless you are a regular, plan to be there a while. We go occasionally - fish n chips is excellent, all you can eat fish on Friday - but their wait staff is too busy chatting with the barflys and regulars to actually offer good service. Go - just not if you are on the clock !!

Ed A.

Yelp
One thing about this place is that they know how to fill a glass of wine. A nearly 3/4 full glass of wine is something to be noted and praised. The food I'm not so sure about. I ordered fresh made chips. I got them back in less than five minutes. They were delicious but they were also room temperature? Why weren't they hot?? The Gordon Ramsay in me became suspicious. No way were these made a few minutes before. I didn't make a stink. Too tired and too late. I will be back for the drinks.

Joan L.

Yelp
Fiona was very nice and made my experience a pleasant one. Prior to purchase, she allowed me to sample the craft beer on tap, even with a Group On. Her consideration was most appreciated. The pub burger was solid, properly cooked and arrived with the condiments I requested. When I heard they had tater tots, that was my selected side. Crisp to perfection with just the right amount of salt. I stayed for a couple or three more after the Groupon too. Thumbs up to the busy barkeeps who kept things humming along.

Susie S.

Yelp
Genuine pub with a fun crowd! This place has authentic Irish food and beer, and there always seems to be a lot of exciting activity around the bar. The fish and chips are wonderful, as are many of the traditional plates. If you come for brunch, get the Irish Breakfast. The atmosphere is warm, but it can get a little rowdy later in the evenings (that's part of the ambience! :) ). If you come early, it's a great place to have a nice dinner with friends or the family. In the wintertime, you can sit near the roaring fire in fireplace, while in the summer, they have outdoor seating. An all around great place in this neck of the woods!

Steven M.

Yelp
I'm here every Wednesday for trivia and we usually have Catherine as our waitress. Hands down the best one there and most friendly. Great place, great people, great service.

Marcos C.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I have went here twice for Brunch. Mainly because it's so close to where we live. The food is surprisingly good. I had the Irish Breakfast sandwich. Delicious. She made her own skillet. It was very good as well. She also had a Bloody Mary. I don't like them but my girlfriend said it was great and spicy. The service was great. Pricing was reasonable. Paid about 30$ for both of us. The reason why it's only four stars is because is because of the atmosphere. It's ALWAYS empty when we go. That has a lot to do with an establishment in my opinion. Even in passing it always empty. Maybe they should try to do promotions or something to get people in. Too nice of a place to be empty all the time.

Matt C.

Yelp
Great daily specials. My favorite are the $3 steak tacos on Thursdays. Awesome selection of draft beer. And cozy atmosphere.

Bess L.

Yelp
Always have a great time here. James pours a perfect Guinness, food is always fresh and tasty, crowd is fun. All over, a great, fun Irish bar for dinner, drinks, and live music.

Pam D.

Yelp
Normally, I don't care for bars/ pubs. That being said, I really enjoyed the lunch we had at Galvin's a few weeks back. Kudos to the bartender / waitress who seemed to be a one woman dynamo, while remaining cordial and efficient. I had the bangers and mash. It was really very good. I brought home some for mom and she loved it as well. Christopher took advantage of their $2 Tuesday burger. It wasn't any little dinky slider. It really was a good deal all around. We will be back for sure. I just need to remember t bring a flashlight to read the menu. It is kind of dark in there and these old eyes of mine.....

Keyla R.

Yelp
Okay. Love, love, love Galvin's! Just wish it was all the way up in Jeff Park so we could get there easier. Let's start with transpo...the Lawrence bus goes right by there but you have to catch it at the Jeff Park Blue Line station because if your try from Kedzie on the Brown, you will need to change over to the Lawrence west bus from the Lawrence east. Trust me, slow as hell so just catch a cab. They have parking but it is a very small lot, so unless you are planning to come for lunch or you get here very early (6-ish) evening, you will have to settle for finding street parking. Logistics handled, let's talk atmosphere. Singles, families, little children about, this is the community spirit of the Irish pub. Throw in live music on weekends and sometimes other time as well, and you have a winning combination already without getting to the food. I have been to this place on St. Paddy's and after a live Celtic FC versus Flyers exhibition match and it rocks! And, the food! Wow! Something changed in the last few years because when were started going there 5 years ago, the food was ehhh. Not sucky but not good, just bland. But not anymore. For bar food picking, they have good Onion Straws, Cheese Curds and Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. For a bigger meal, they have excellent Fish and Chips, which I usually order. Hubby likes their Irish Breakfast and their Bangers and Mash. Good stuff.

Carrie S.

Yelp
I think that I found my second favorite Sunday afternoon activity; hanging out at the bar by the fire, drinking some Stella, and eating some very good Irish fare. This is how I spent my afternoon after an event at Delightful Pastries down the street. After finishing up my activity at Delightful Pastries, I met my bf at Galvin's where he sat relaxing by the fire, reading a book, and drinking a Stella. Upon meeting him, I sat down and joined in the relaxing. I grabbed a Stella as well and admired the interior. The bar is very homey and warm. The bronzed, detailed tin ceiling was decorated with sparkly shamrocks for St. Patrick's Day. The walls are lined with all sorts of Irish decorations. It's definitely an Irish pub not trying to be any other than itself. For that reason alone, I liked it here. The food pleasantly surprised me by being really good pub food. I had the fish and chips and they were great. The fish was crispy and tender. So good. The chips are real potato chips there, crunchy on the outside and tender in the middle. What impressed me the most was the homemade coleslaw. The coleslaw is spicy and peppery with red onions and caraway seeds. The caraway seeds make the coleslaw so unique and delicious. If given the chance, try the coleslaw, it's worth it. Galvin's Public House is a great Irish corner pub. Through my visit there, I could definitely spend another afternoon relaxing by the fire, drinking some beer, and being with my man; thus a perfect Sunday afternoon.

Michael L.

Yelp
This has recently become my go to pub/bar even though it's not right in my neighborhood. What I'm saying is that it's well worth the trip to get over there. Food is consistently good from: shepard's pie to fish & chips, even the chicken quesadilla is solid. Which is somewhat surprisning for an Irish bar. Other positives include the parking in their lot just to the west of where you enter the bar, the nice fireplace, free popcorn, and super friendly and attentive bartenders and staff every time I've been in here. The crowd is a healthy mix of local barflies as well as business lunchers or after work cocktail seekers that pass through depending on the time of day you visit. I've never really seen the place crowded which is a plus in my book as well. If you find yourself on the NW Side, it's definitely worth stopping in.

B. L.

Yelp
The Yelp listing for this place should just read bars, restaurants, not rooming house! They will let you lodge here only while having a cold one or having dinner, but then it's time ot hit the road. This place has a full dinner menu and a small beer garden. I recommend a pint of Guiness or Harp with your meal.

Ron S.

Yelp
Galvin's is a nice neighborhood Irish pub with good food and good beer. Galvin's was the first place where the REAL Irish bartender poured me a Guinness and crafted a shamrock in the foam. I rewarded him with a nice tip. We've never been there for music and usually go for an early dinner and a couple of pints. They pour a good Guinness in a town where so many bartenders don't know what the heck they're doing. I wish we still lived near Galvin's...

Alejandra Ines M.

Yelp
I give this place five stars because the food is AWESOME and the drinks are cheap AND I can go with my dog in the summer. I don't think I need to elaborate, but I'll do you the favor and explain. The have great daily specials, everything that I've tried is exceeding my expectation. Although they are a bar, their food goes could really carry this place on its own. I highly recommend the Irish nachos (Homemade potato chips with bacon, scallions, cheese, and sour cream) as well as their wings (if you like sweet go for the Irish ones, if not, the classes hot wings are good). And, although my husband might kill me for letting out our secret, I'm doing it anyway. They have this INSANE gravy that they serve with some of their dishes. My husband liked it so much he tried it with fries. Let's just say we've been hooked ever since. It's not on the menu, but the staff is ultra friendly so I'm sure they'll oblige. You can thank me later.

Beth L.

Yelp
I stinkin' love this place. Friendly folks behind (and in front of) the bar. I had to wait a while for a friend who was running late and got into a great conversation with a couple of the folks along the bar rail. Great mix of older and younger patrons. Always friendly folks here which is something I can't always say for some of the NW side "local" bars in the 'hood. Just enough TVs without being too many, the occasional band, and a FIREPLACE. And oh geez, THE FOOD. Two words: Irish Nachos. But good food from apps through some traditional Irish fare, as well. Currently, they are running a "kids eat free" promotion on Mondays. They always seem to have specials, including a $2 burger night. Family owned by good people (who are actually (gasp) Irish!) who give back to the community.

Lorna S.

Yelp
BLAAAAAHHHH! As Irish pubs go, this is pretty common. I've eaten here on a couple of occasions, and have not been impressed. It is a local joint that gets very packed, and it's difficult to find standing room sometimes. The good thing about this place, besides being close to my house, is that they have live bands on the weekends. Usually Irish bands, but they have other stuff sometimes too. The parking lot is small, for the number of people that are jammed in there on the weekends, but there is street parking available near by. I'd go again, but only if I was going to see a specific band.

James T.

Yelp
I went here to watch my friend's cover band play. This place is not ideal for holding music events. It's not laid out properly to really hear a live band, and the makeshift stage is like forcing the band to play inside a phone booth. Since you can't hold a conversation and you can't hear the band, the only option you have is to watch whatever movie is muted on the various televisions and pretend you can follow the plot. To be fair, you can tell that they try to make it a good place to see a free show, but they can't quite fit the live music aspect in. It's like a forty year old man going to a wedding in the tuxedo from his high school prom. As far as the pub itself, it was very nice. To be honest, I expected a sort of dive atmosphere due to the neighborhood it was in. It's very clean and comfortable, and it resembles a traditional pub you'd see in Ireland. Even the staff is Irish. I didn't have any food, but my friends said it was fantastic. The beer selection was decent, and I can assume that they know how to pour a proper Guinness. I only ordered two beers the night I was there and both times the bartender misheard me and poured me a beer I didn't order. Of course, he was cool about correcting his mistake. Since I live in the outskirts of the city where the only places to get a drink are dank and dingy VD factories with glass block windows that proudly advertise having "Old Style on tap", it's kind of nice to know a place like this is in close proximity. I definitely wouldn't mind going back to hang out and have a few pints. But if there's a live band that night, I'm afraid I'll have to pass.

Jennifer Q.

Yelp
I went to Galvin's a few weekends ago for a birthday party. Even though I was mostly in the back room where the party was (rockin' the karaoke mike with Sonic Lizard Karaoke!), I did get to pass through the main room to get to the back room, as well as pass through to get to the restroom. It is a pretty laid back, friendly place. There were several groups of locals in their late twenties and early thirties. My friend and I walked in all glammed out (as we regularly do when going to a karaoke party) so I was a little nervous people would be like, "Who the heck are these divas?" Nope. Everyone was accepting and cool. I would like to revisit this place for a pint and get to know the vibe in the main room.

Tj L.

Yelp
I have lived in the neighborhood forever. Galvins was always a great place to drink and have fun. The bar is now under new ownership and the place is a lot cleaner. They have a new menu under the new owner and the food is unreal and at a very resonance price. The specials are great, 50cent wings on Wednesday and $3 burgers on Tuesday!!

Nae F.

Yelp
I have to say, the new menu is AWESOME! I can't wait to try all the new things. One thing I did have the pleasure of encountering is the handmade/homemade mozzarella sticks. Woot! I included a pic but it's only if a 1/4 order cause I hoovered them down before I had a chance to yelp 'em.

Tony C.

Yelp
We had dinner here last night for Valentine's Day. Service: 5/5 Food: 4/5 - very good. Tried the bangers and mash and fish and chips Ambiance: 5/5 - nice Irish pub with a great fireplace Drinks: 5/5 Price: 5/5 - had a couple good beers and good pub food right next to a fireplace with good Celtic music in the background, for $35... going back soon

ayms l.

Yelp
Very nice Irish Pub. This is decent sized Pub. Plenty of tables and TVs. Very clean bathrooms with "fancy" soap and lotion. Small room next door for parties.

Paul L.

Yelp
Chip Laszlo here. We were looking for a place to go to for St. Pattys and based on the reviews we decided on Galvin's. The guinness was $5 for a pint and tasted great. The look of the place was great. Fireplace and live music added for a great atmosphere. The place was busy and I mean packed! We figured as much being a Irish pub on St. Pat's. The only problem I had with the place was the food. I was surprised because so many people spoke highly of it. Maybe they were rushing because of how bust they were and the quality suffered. I had the fish and chips. I never knew fish could be chewy, they must of left it in the frier to long because the cod was very dark in color and tasted like oil. The chips though were excellent! My fiance had the corn beef and cabbage, The corn beef was tough, very tough. Our jaws got tired of chewing kinda tough, The cabbage was bland.... just bland. Chances are we will try this place again and hope the food is much better. Chip Laszlo signing out.

Gail S.

Yelp
Thank you to all of you who recommended this restaurant. We had a lovely evening. Good food, good prices, great beer. Kathy, our waitress, was working alone and she did a great job! We had an Irishman in our party and he had Shepard's pie and said it was very good. My husband had fish and chips and the rest of us had corned beef..delicious. The only thing I would say against this pub is their desserts are just ok. Chocolate cake...don't bother. Apple crisp...just ok. Brownie sundae...very good. We will surely be back.

Terry L.

Yelp
Pub close to my home. Good meals, plenty of space. Best to get a drink or 2 and sit by the fire enjoying one of their great specials. Friendly. They also have a patio space, can't wait for the weather to improve!

Yelp
I would have given this place 5 stars last summer, because I loved that I could get a good Guinness and pierogies at the same place. They have since removed pierogies from the menu, and I'm saddened. I've tried most of the Irish fare on the menu, and it's all decent. Nothing is overwhelmingly fantastic, but it's a great place in this Polish neighborhood to get a shepherd's pie and a fresh Guinness or Smithwick's.

Yelp
This place is pretty much perfect for me. Their food is great, and as people have mentioned, you have to try the Irish Nachos. I've enjoyed everything that I've eaten there which includes some of their sandwiches, curry chicken, and different appetizers. The wait staff is very friendly and always willing to chat with you if you've got something to say. The only two knocks that I have on this place is their TV situation and the live music. I'd like to see a few better televisions in there so watching games is easier. The only nice television is in a corner and some of the things on the wall get in the way of seeing that tv if in the wrong spot. As far as the live music, I don't mind the bands that play there but as others have mentioned, its just too small and is very loud. It ends up being an ok atmosphere since people are jammin but you really can't hear anything once the band starts playing other than the loud music. We've brought a few people with to this place and everyone else has enjoyed their time so hopefully you will give it a try too!

Yelp
Great food, service, and outdoor patio! This is just down the street from me and was recently acquired by new owners who are doing a great job. The food is delicious, the staff and manager are all extremely nice and friendly, and they now serve brunch which is also delicious and includes a great mimosa and bloody Mary deal. The outdoor sidewalk patio is a nice option, and my husband and I are now regulars.

Yelp
Large Irish pub. They often have live sessions on the weekends. When I was in high school and hung out there it was called something else, still Irish, but the name escapes me.

Yelp
Where do I start? Well, Galvin's is an awesome little Irish Pub that's very authentic. The decor is welcoming and cozy and there's even a small outside patio in case you want to get away from it all. The music can range from rock to pop and I've even been there when they've had a live band. The bartenders are chatty and they've always been cool and super fast. Oh, and the Guinness girls ;) have been known to drop in every once in a while... what's better than free pints of Guinness and the Guinness Girls? I've only been there to drink, but the last time I was in the food look delicious and if it wasn't so late I would have ordered some. For a true Irish experience in Chicago, I definitely recommend Galvin's!

Yelp
I have not yet tried anything on the menu but the Guinness is delicious! My wife and I stopped in for some black and tan's and they had a live band playing. The band was really two guys singing some classic rock tunes... they were not so good but they did provide background noise for the place. It would have been much better if they had an Irish folk band or something a bit more interesting. I will say that the two gentlemen really got into the songs... and they seemed to be into each other as well. The staff was friendly and the crowd was varied... older folks as well as college students. This place is not far from my house so I have gone back a few times.

Yelp
I really enjoyed everything about this quaint corner pub. I visited early afternoon just after the lunch rush so it was pretty quiet but still had a nice vibe. The bartender/server was very friendly and attentive. I think he got our food order wrong because we paid more than the menu said our food was going to be, but the portions were good size and delicious!!! I will go back for sure. Even its only for the $2 Cuervo shots!!!

Yelp
So sad to say this authentic pub so reminiscent of the European original really disappointed me . Service ABYSMALLY SLOW ....and we were only ones dining. Two old guys at the bar......and the two servers behind the bar couldn't burn the calorie and be bothered with giving us ketchup and napkins. Used to be a cool and quaint place to grab a Weiss beer and some authentic comfort food, but so not worth it.
