Amazing local place. Guinness on tap ! Service on point and the clam chower is really good. Real people work here so don't be surprise if they act like humans an not just like service robots

This cozy Irish/American/Italian(??) pub exceeded my expectations. I admit, this kind of generic American pub fare is not at all my favorite, but I went with a friend. I ordered the soup of the day (escarole) and a cheeseburger. The escarole was definitely the highlight (not bad for three bucks!) and my cheeseburger was definitely above average. The steak fries were under seasoned, but nothing a personal application of salt and pepper couldn’t fix. To be clear, this bar is not promising anything it can’t deliver. I’m confused why it’s an Irish pub when the entire menu seems clearly Italian/American. Pasta, steak, and seafood (broiled or fried). It was definitely well attended the Friday lunch I came in, and the staff was friendly and cheerful, if a bit swamped. If you are in the mood for above average American bar-food fare it’s definitely a strong option. I doubt its menu has changed in decades, but I think for a certain clientele that’s probably appreciated.

This place 3 years ago was wonderful Great service, amazing food and good times This time 11/624 the bartender kept complaining about the customers asking questions etc, the food is just ok now. It's not the fun atmosphere it used to have. I will probably not return. Sad for me ***I should add that if you are a local, it's a different experience. They will take care of you better if you are a regular customer.

On our Travels through Jamaica Plain we stopped at The Galway House for dinner. It's a Cozy Neighborhood Pub. We sat down at the bar and ordered some 😋Buffalo Chicken Wings 😋 and Ice Cold Drinks 🍹🍻 ❄️ the wings were Delicious 😋. We ordered the Blue Cheese Burger Special 😋 which was Tasty. The Service was Great 👍 Definitely Recommend Galway House!

What you get for the price is great! Clam Chowder was tasty! Cozy neighborhood type bar and food!

Google
As a lifelong Boston resident I can honestly say that the Galway House is best restaurant / bar in the city. Plenty of great food options, service is top notch, bar tenders are on point and friendly, prices are very reasonable, kitchen staff know their stuff. Plenty of parking out back. You won't be disappointed. It's a win - win - win.

Don’t mind the picture it was good Oh my goodness the ribeye steak with the special seasonings is absolutely deductible!!! SO GOOD I forgot to take a picture before hand! So these are my leftovers. Mashed potatoes were great. The broccoli fresh and crisp.

Stopped here on a business trip on my way to my hotel. Being from the Midwest, I knew I wanted seafood as much as possible while I was in town. I love fish and chips, and I tend to get it about half the time I have seafood. This little "hole in the wall" has the best fish and chips I've ever had...west coast, east coast, you name it. I tried it at a nice seafood place a few days later, and that didn't even compare. The real treat, however, was the clam chowder. I don't even like clam chowder, but I wanted to give it a shot while in New England. It didn't disappoint! I finally understand what all the fuss is about. But as with the fish and chips, the clam chowder I tried elsewhere wasn't anywhere close to as good. I would have eaten here every day of my trip if it wasn't an hour from my hotel.

Yelp
My friends and I recently decided to give Galway another go. Once again, the ambience was great. I love the feel of a local Irish bar playing Boston sports on the TVs with the bar "regulars" hanging out. Our waiter was nice. We had a bit of trouble with the food -- a member of our party has an olive allergy and requested no olives on a dish, but was given them anyway. This happened last time we visited as well. We stayed for about an hour and were never brought water. Small things that can be fixed but definitely took away from the experience. Galway is great but would benefit from refocusing on details!

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised, good good and service. Food is very good for value and freshness, and preparation and flavor. I was tempted by the orange glazed duck but this being my first visit I didn't want to be disappointed if the food was not up to snuff. Ordered sole Newburgh. 2 delicious rolls sole fillets stuffed w bread crumbs. Who even has this on a menu in Boston, it is underrated what a good dish it actually is. Ordered the sauce on the side and picked the broccoli. Broccoli came steamed perfect, fresh good size crowns. 18.00 Laid back place w bar on one side table and booths on the other. Patron raving about chicken Marsala. Someone else meatball sub.

Yelp
This is just your typical dive bar and that's perfectly fine! Good beer selection, wings are on point, pizza is always good. Service is always pretty consistently good too! Ambiance could be a little bit better but overall solid place.

jhon g.

Yelp
Awesome food and awesome vibes! Grandma grew up down the street and said this place is now the best in the neighborhood

Ben S.

Yelp
This place is arguably the best value in Boston. Weekly beer specials. Good food at an house price. Sides are great. This is what every good dive should strive for. Not a rowdy bar which is great. Everyone feels like family at Galway house.

Libby L.

Yelp
For the price - definitely a must try. We would go back for the price and try some other items. Server was very efficient and friendly. ** Go early before 6:30pm on a Saturday as it does get packed - very limited seating. - RIBS - a bit dry as it came out with end pieces but not bad on some of the meatier ribs that we got. - CAJUN PRIME RIB - we got without the spices and it came out really tender and flavorful but still need a bit of salt. - DELMONICO RIBEYE - not the greatest - overcooked, dry and bland. - ORANGE GLAZED DUCK - this was a special - AMAZING.

Jowanna G.

Yelp
Still delicious bar food and great service. The chowder here is better than legal's, just my honest opinion. The delmonico steak was delicious with fries and a salad and my son absolutely loved his nachos. Still a good food & bar place in the community with an old school Boston feel

Richard J.

Yelp
Looks good. I've Never Been There. Recommended highly. I will check it out when in Boston, Massachusetts! Don't wait up ...

Robina C.

Yelp
OMG Kalia took really great care of us. She was so attentive and helpful in getting our appetizers and loads of French bread and butter. We got buffalo mild wings well done and jumbo Shrimp Cocktail Sauce. I was going to take pictures, but that didn't happen. LOL. I got an iced tea and it was just brewed, and my daughter got a Shirley Temple (too sweet for me). Daughter got Cup of clam chowder 9 on the rating scale! Stuffed mushrooms with lobster and breadcrumbs!! Delicious so darn good I had to get an order to go for supper. A bowl of clam chowder to go too for my granddaughter. Everything was so good we'll be back.

Roberta G.

Yelp
Homey. Good food. Good service. I like the salmon and the fish and chips. Wait staff helpful.

Lynnette B.

Yelp
Obsessed with them, I always order the espresso martini chicken pasta and the Brussels sprouts! So good and the service is amazing.

Jane O.

Yelp
Delicious and plentiful food -wonderful service, ( Denise is our favorite waitress) warm and friendly atmosphere -reasonably priced _definitely our favorite go to restaurant in the neighborhood

art h.

Yelp
Nice people running the place and the food is solid. Old school ambiance. Very charming and relaxed.

Kristy A.

Yelp
A great hamburger! Best one I have had in Boston. Friends loved the clam chowder and their salads looked great too.

Carol B.

Yelp
What a great restaurant! The clam chowder was the best I have ever had. The burger was awesome. So glad we came to this little gem. When we left there was a wait of people to eat. In a Wednesday night! You won't be disappointed

Anna N.

Yelp
Great food. So much food. Couldn't even come close to finishing my mixed plate. Good service. Street parking - and I imagine it can be hard to find something. Worth the drive

Arthur Brotherman Baker A.

Yelp
I can't stop talking about this place, I've was introduced to this place over 10 years ago, and still can't be beat, also had friends, family, co-workers, meeting, even Exs all rave how great the food was and the amount for the cost can't be beat! Great seafood and clam chowder to die for, cool little spot and good service helpful staff and not too overwhelming of a atmosphere, would recommend highly go here when i'm in Boston, fill up on good food friendly faces and fun, enjoy!!! oh you'll thank me later, lol.

Elias G.

Yelp
We arrived and it was pretty busy, so we sat and ended up waiting 20 minutes or so before we were brought water or asked what we'd want. Once we got everything, the food was just ok. I got the Montreal Ribeye, which had a great crust but was a bit overdone. The Junior Ribeye wasn't a great hit either, with the Mac and Cheese being a little disappointing. Everything came with a cup of clam chowder, which was actually quite good -- the clams were hidden and it wasn't too thick or thin. Service was super friendly and quick witted, which was funny and nice! Overall I don't think this is the type of place for a date night, but if you're craving bar food or company to watch a game with, you'll enjoy yourself.

lisa v.

Yelp
Galway House is a JP mainstay. The food is so much better than what you'd expect from a humble looking, down to earth bar/restaurant with TVs all over the place. It's a great place to watch games, of course, and, for that matter, to watch with the community as police caught the Boston Marathon bomber. The steaks are awesome, as are seafood dishes. The staff are wonderful, friendly and competent. We love this place and have loved it for decades. I hope they stick around forever!

Chris M.

Yelp
I was there on a Saturday. They have the specials by the door so that is something to make sure to catch on the way in. I had the broiled seafood platter to as my entree with clam chowder as a starter. The bartender was friendly. The portions are large so if you are really hungry, this is the place.

Tia K.

Yelp
There's a reason this place has been in business for 64 years! The food is good (my favorite is the sirloin salad), the service is excellent (Donna) and the prices are more than fair considering the portion sizes!

Alan B.

Yelp
Went on a Friday night had a short wait. The Waitress was friendly and we ordered drinks my beer was good value Wifeys cocktail not so much,on the small side, but it was reasonably priced.I had the broiled seafood platter it was delicious if a tad on the cool side My partner in crimes scallop dish was warm and excellent. The garden salad was fresh and tasty. I would recommend the Galway for a meal during the week not for a weekend,as it lacked a bit of atmosphere. But if you want good food at a reasonable price then this is the place!

Rebeca M.

Yelp
Short staffed having only one nasty waitress for about 15 tables. There were five of us during lunch and had to wait forever as the waitress kept on walking by us repeatedly ignoring our call. Once she took our order she started to walked away and my sister SLIGHTLY touched/tapped her shoulder to get her attention. (Who knows how much longer we would have had to wait once she walked away). But waitress barked "Don't touch me!" There was absolutely no need for her nasty attitude. Furthermore, waitress did not picked up the dishes from the table. We had to sit there surrounded with dirty dishes and leftovers. Waitress brought the coffee but did not bring cream and sugar nor a spoon. Her negative attitude was palpable as she seemed bothered when we asked for these. Food was good as always but the customer service was POOR to say the least. I will have to think twice about returning. Very disappointing. This was on a week day. I wonder how worse would be on a weekend. Our friends who were visiting Boston noticed and commented on the waitress lack of friendliness and poor customer service.

Joe C.

Yelp
True Score: 1.5 Stars Disastrous Don't really know how to truly rate this place but I have to described what happened. We got seated and waiting for 30 minutes to get a drink. It then took another 20 minutes to get our food order in. 40 minutes later the food still wasn't up. In the hour that we were waiting for food (which we never got), we weren't even served another drink. Let's total this out. An hour and half to get served one drink. We never ate and cancelled our food order. Come to find out that the ticket wasn't even started yet in the kitchen. Just sad, thanks

Colleen L.

Yelp
My family had lunch here yesterday. I'm visiting so it's been a year since the last time we ate here. Caitlin was our waitress. She was working the dining room by herself so she was very busy. I found her to be very pleasant and efficient. The food was so fresh, hot and delicious. Kudos to the Chef. I hope to come back again next year. I will definitely have lunch with my family at Galway House

Sonia V.

Yelp
My recommendation would be do not visit during lunch hour. Dinner time is a better chef better service better food.

Linda J.

Yelp
Delicious food always! Served by pleasant and efficient servers. It has the feel of a neighborhood pub and it's been there a long time. I noticed that the servers seem to have been there for years and it seems like one big happy family. It's affordable for moderate income earners and they have specials every night. A big selection of Draft beers, many if them locally brewed. They don't rush you out, so it's a nice place to connect with a friend.

Dave T.

Yelp
Best fish and chips in the city. Love the eats and friendly service here. Great atmosphere too; I recommend bellying up at the bar and taking it all in.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Think of this place as the perfect blend of Irish pub meets family restaurant. I came after work on a Monday and it was moderately busy. Plenty of people were were socializing and I even saw a few kids eating, overall a super warm environment, at least for this time of day. Service was friendly and attentive. They start you off with bread and butter which was such a nice extra touch. I only came for a beer and onion rings. Their beer selection is pretty thorough; I got a Turtle Swamp beer (#supportlocal). Their onion rings were great and the portions were absolutely GiAnT. On top of all of this, the prices were cheap! Such a great local joint, would 10/10 recommend

Shane O.

Yelp
Great food, great customer service! Nice spot to go to if you need some bar food. The wings are so good too!

Dick K.

Yelp
Onion rings, clam chowder, chili, small steak, fish, baked eggplant, liver/onions, fried clams, 5 drinks......all excellent and for $200. Oh strawberry short cake superb! Service good, servers kind of rushing back and forth... A bit loud. But I'll be back!

Alejandrina C.

Yelp
The food in timely matter and the service are on point it's a friendly place to have a quick meal or appetizer 3 up .

Robin K.

Yelp
You are there for the "ambiance" which is priceless if you love old Boston and regular people. The food is good and portions are large. We had the most wonderful waitress behind the bar, friendly and attentive but not overly so. We're local and love the place. If you are from out of town and looking for more than what's described, keep lookin'!

Justin T.

Yelp
Ate good food. Steak needs some seasoning and a little less char. But other than that, simple meal. Clam chowder was LIT.

cath e.

Yelp
Local spot Nothing fancy! At all No complaints from locals DELICIOUS food Good drinks speedy service! Love the seafood newburg Good drinks ! We all love it don T go dressed up no need !!! working people there for chowder. Burgers fried fish

A D.

Yelp
Bar seating has good service. Dining area is often served by this waitress who is rude and crude. There is another waitress who has better customer service manners and I hope she doesn't stay long in this environment lest she becomes embittered like the other one over time. One time, we were dining there and waiting for our order, this waitress in question (older white woman with blue glasses) walks by our table, grabs the parmesan cheese shaker from our table and hands it to another table who asked for one--without saying anything to us, as if we were not there! Our table had already been served by another waitress--cheese, utensils, water, etc. And she grabs stuff from our table taht had already been set up by the other waitress without saying anything to us! Another time, this same waitress served our table. Same nasty attitude. She walked by us multiple times and we even waved to signal that we are ready to order, she avoided eye contact and walked by. While waiting, I went to the restroom and there she was chatting with customers at the other table. Not sure if she has an issue with how we look or she hates her job or whatever, we could only guess. But I think I will draw the line on the parmesan passive aggression. Also--the pizza is greasy, the restrooms are filthy, and the dining area service is slow and rude. If you must, have a nice cold beer at the bar but avoid the dining area.

Shana S.

Yelp
Very surprised! There were many ppl waiting to be seated. It was a full house. Ppl kept coming thru the front door and leaving because of the wait. This place is not fancy. It's actually a bit messy Very tight spaced (The crowd was NOT mixed, but I saw an Asian dude and 2 Rasta's come in like they knew the place.) Ppl stood at the doorway waiting to be seated The food is good!!! I looked online and saw that the pictures weren't that appetizing, but seriously this place is alright. Sorry I didn't take pics, but I'll be back because remember I told y'all I had to quit going to The Clam Box and find a new seafood spot. I got the Galway Fried Platter. Came with shrimp( big, meaty and not greasy) , scallops ( OMG- soo good) , fish and clams , fries and clam chowder. I ordered 2 ( bomb azz) Mai Tai's, all for a little under $40.00! The Mai Tai came in a tall glass and was strong'n flavaful!!!! So so surprised. Next tim you're in JP, come by and order something and tell me what y'all think!

Lina P.

Yelp
I don't know what all the fuss is about this place! Limited parking. Food is ok! Service was not great! Ambiance is nonexistent! Reminded me of other restaurants in the area! Nothing to distinguish it as a memorable place to return to! I guess if you like basic it's ok!

John H.

Yelp
A classic JP hangout. Food is always good, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. I lived in JP for 12 years and every time I go back it is the place I have to go for a meal and brew. The Montreal steak is my favorite.

Alison M.

Yelp
Cute Irish pub within walking distance of our Airbnb. Menu is big enough for everyone to find something. I got the fish n chips which came with coleslaw. The coleslaw was the best part. Fries were pretty blah and the fish was okay. Husband got the sole and it was the star of the show. The cream sauce that accompanied it was wonderful. Overall we'd go back and try it again

Brandon T.

Yelp
I was fresh off my flight and I was looking for some good food to eat late at night. The atmosphere is pretty good, I like the fact it's more of a bar setting with food instead of the other way around. The server was very good in helping us and getting us situated. As far as the food I wasn't too impressed nonetheless it was decent and did fill the spot. There isn't really a good drink selection, I haven't been to a restaurant in years that didn't serve lemonade and nothing but soda.

Trina D.

Yelp
I popped in on a chilly evening and had a tasty bowl of chowder a pint. Great atmosphere with friendly & attentive service.

Michael L.

Yelp
Excellent food , good selection, nice relaxed atmosphere, fine service. Busy, but not rushed.

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Delicious, calm chowder!! Service was great and the environment was clean, comfortable and fun.. Can't wait to go back!!

Kelsey O.

Yelp
My favorite bar to go to espically after late nights at work. Service is always phenomenal And the food is always hot, fresh, and delicious! My favorite girls behind the bar are Ashlyn and Heather. Definitely have no complaints

Laura Keith K.

Yelp
What a great pub! It not only has a super bar, but the food was really excellent and reasonably priced for super-generous servings. We had the whole-belly fried clams, which were sweet with that perfectly crisp/melt-in-your-mouth goodness you order them for, but don't always find. (I write that having had them at a slightly more posh place the previous night where they charged $6 more for a plate half as full and half as good.) We also had the cheese lasagna which was huge and really yummy. We gladly took half home! Even the salads were excellent with a nice mix of really fresh greens. The service was impeccable and very quick.

Graham P.

Yelp
Man do I love some Galway House when I want comfort food. Great burgers, steaks, pastas and all for super reasonable prices. Now they deliver themselves, so the food comes fast and hot!

Michael P.

Yelp
Galway house is more like a pub. No hostess so on busy nights you wright your name on a white board and a waitress will come call a name when a table is ready. Or open seating at the bar. There are a pretty good amount of seats at the bar however the area is narrow so on busy nights it might get crowded. THE BEST part about this place is the food and the portion sizes. They really take care of you at the Galway House in that department. Seems like a ton of food for just $12-16. Each entree comes with 2 sides and a soup or salad. I've had a very good prime rib and salmon. The salmon wasn't my favorite but it did have a glaze on it that made it enjoyable. The staff has always been very nice and pretty funny. Making jokes and interacting with one another and guest. Great place to hang out and have some drinks with friends and watch any game. Thought hard about a 4 star here. Maybe I'll raise it after I'm able to come a few more times and try some other food options.

Maria A.

Yelp
Love there shrimp cocktail and the staff was friendly also good food and affordable.I highly recommended them
