Trondheim, host city MICHELIN Nordic Countries 2020

"Dating to 1861, when it replaced an even older bridge near the cathedral, this crossing affords lovely views of gabled riverside warehouses—18th‑century timber buildings on piles painted red, yellow, and brown—and leads into Øvre Bakklandet (to the right) and Nedre Bakklandet (to the left), a long, narrow cobbled street lined with low timber houses now occupied by trendy cafés, restaurants, and art and craft galleries." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

This is also called Old Town Bridge, a popular spot in the idyllic town of Trondheim in Norway. The town is compact, walkable to most places. This bridge is one of a few attractions, appx 7 min walk from the main cathedral, the view of two sides of the riverbank with colourful rows of houses, is postcard worthy. It is small and short but charming, with benches to rest your feet. There's a park on one side, with some benches and calm river water, a great place to relax, people watch, and for photo ops. Lots of tourists and locals on bicycle or skateboards around. A stroll along the bank is lovely and peaceful ✌️

Gamle Bybro is one of Trondheim’s most enduring landmarks. Built in 1685, its iconic arches frame some of the city’s most stunning views along the Nidelva. Standing on this old crossing, surrounded by red timber and river light, you feel the centuries settle around you. The colourful storehouses lining the banks add a quiet, effortless charm. Pure magic and absolutely worth the stop!

It has to be done, but be aware it is a tourist hot spot, so it can become crowded. That said, this time I visited, it was a warm sunny day. The previous time it was -18 degrees Celsius and very deep snow. Either way, you need to see it.

Google
The landmark of trondheim if you visit for the first time. The view is ok, a typical Nordic havn city. But I won’t recommend the restaurants there

Great find in the middle of Trondheim. Easy to get to, and very picturesque.

The bridge itself is very beautiful. It has that old feel but looks to be in great condition. Additionally, you can get a great view down the river, with Trondheim's multicolored buildings on each side.

A small historic unique-looking bridge that might be worth a photo or two.

Trondheim is one of the most beautiful cities. It isn't crowded like Bergen. It has many of it's port warehouses still intact. Extremely walkable. Lovely city

Yelp
Probably the most famous landmark in the city, this historic bridge doesn't just bridge the river, it represents the city, between the old historic district and the more modern sections. The wooden drawbridge was a gift from royalty and remains one of the most popular foot traffic areas in the city. From it are great views of the wooden harbor buildings and you can get great views of it from the wharves. From the bridge it's worth exploring the other side with great coffee shops and some good waterfront bars as well.

Yelp
Must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Trondheim. The bridge is picturesque and you get great iconic views of the river and wooden houses. Just a bridge, but a quick walk from the best parts of the city (Sentrum and Bakklandet), and well worth a visit.
