"G&O Family Cyclery, Phinney Ridge Greenwood by Modern Species. If you live in the Northwest, you should probably own a bike. And if you live in the suburbs, you should probably have some kids. G&O can help you fulfill your duties... maybe not on the kid front, but on the bikes for sure."

We paid almost $12.000 for our two Riese & Muller ebikes in this shop two years ago, and after that and having the worst service(what a nightmare!) and customer service experience, I won't recommend to anyone, buy any ebikes from this shop.. Also they charge twice the price for any service! The worst customer experience in my life. If anyone is thinking of buying a ebike, just go to any of the ebikes shop downtown Seattle.

I am really glad that I decided to purchase my ebike from G&O. They were very helpful and informative as I made my decision and I never felt pressured. In fact, they referred me to other shops that might have models that could also fit my needs. Since receiving the bike from G&O the shop has continued to offer high quality customer service. I left with my bike feeling informed and excited about it. The shop is super-busy, but it seems like they are always willing to go above and beyond to give you attention and ensure that your equipment is in good working order. I have had a few minor heavy-use related maintenance needs and they have always been very accommodating to a walk-in (I do call and ask them if it’s convenient first, like I said they’re usually pretty busy with customers who have made appointments). The quality of the bikes and equipment is excellent, but the humans in the shop are what makes this business really special. Highly recommended for e-bikes and services.

G&O have another loyal family. TL;DR - If you value a kid friendly location that take time with their customers to instill confidence on their bike - go to G&O. My husband and son (3 years old) went to G&O to test ride a bike. When they got back, I was surprised how excited our son was to tell me about going to the bike shop. The toys and coloring pages were a highlight. This was a first for us. It was actually easy to go on an errand with our son there. We later went as a family to test ride a mid-tail cargo bike for me. It became clear why our son loved the bike shop when I stepped in. I was amazed how welcoming and unpretentious the entire staff were. Jenna was very helpful getting the bike set up for me to ride it. She took the time to show me the bike and point out different features before I rode it - something that many shops don’t make time to do. I found the Bosch system to be easy to use and more adaptive than other systems I had tried, and I really liked the belt drive system for ease of maintenance on commute. We ended up buying not one, but two bikes from G&O. The pick up experience for my bike was amazing. Davie tailored his bike overview to my bike experience level and spent time letting me test out different things, like dropping the battery, with him there to guide me through it. He takes the time to set each bike owner up for success so you actually want to ride your bike. While I was there, I got to watch Davie interact with a few other customers. He really wants every bike owner to be safe and happy, regardless of if they purchased their bike at G&O. His activism in the bike community really shows and is part of how he runs his shop. Confidence is instilled with every customer. I've put 450 miles on my bike in the last 4 months. I just went in for a tune up. It was the first time we used the restroom there, and they had a toddler toilet seat to use too. They think about not just their customers, but the entire family. We will be coming back to G&O service on an ongoing basis. Thank you for all that you’ve done to make your shop welcoming to the community!

This is the best bike shop in the region. It's focused on enhancing the riding experience for families and commuters alike and their staff is very nice. My son loves trying out the balance bikes and my daughter enjoys playing in the kids corner while we visit. As far as service... Tune ups somehow seem to transform my bike to new. I've purchased a few bikes from them and these bikes are built to last (my family has put about 11k miles on these bikes this year!). They definitely have a pulse on the industry and as well as know a lot about the greater Seattle area bike laws and bike community events too.

Google
Its a grip to get here from where I live on the South end and it was well worth the drive. If you're looking to buy a top of the line cargo bike with the specific goal of getting your kids around, this is the only place to go. You can feel that kind of care given to family biking throughout the entire process. They make sure to tell you that building your bike will take as long as it takes to ensure their mechanics are not over worked as to not make mistakes. We're glad to have bought our bike here!

Google
I got a flat tire on my cargo electric bike, that I use every day for commuting and kid transport. I called around to get it fixed ASAP, and all other bike shops quoted several weeks. G&O was able to get me up and running within a day, at half the quoted cost of other repair shops. I am so lucky to live nearby! Great experience.

Google
The only place I take my e-cargo bike! Also, I called a major "coop" retailer and 1. they didn't know what charger I needed when mine died, and 2. they don't keep them in stock and said it had to be special ordered. Called G&O which had it in stock and stayed open late for me to come pick it up 30mins laters. Great shop, great people, top notch service.

My past bike shop experiences have generally been pretty good, but I just had the best one by far. Davey, the owner is a fountain of information, and went out of his way to make sure I understood the downsides to the bikes and components I was looking at - not just the upsides. He had even pre-read through my email correspondence and had my concerns in mind when I arrived. It seems to me that he is more interested in happy customers and long-term relationships than a quick sale. That is my kind of place. They also have several hard-to-find bikes in stock, and he was happy to let me try a few of them (and even made a great recommendation for one I had not considered). Thanks Davey! I also enjoyed the email back-and-forth with Robert as I was making an inquiry and setting up an appointment.

Yelp
Totally saved my bacon! I was visiting Seattle for a month. A borrowed bicycle was going to be my only form of transportation. Then, on my second day in town(!) I had a significant but easily fixable issue. For a quality repair on an unusually expensive bike (which didn't belong to me!), G&O came highly recommended. Luckily I was able to get an appointment with G&O. They got me in and fixed up. Jace was super helpful and great at explaining things. Cool family vibe as well. Glad to see a bicycle shop that's spreading the bicycle love to all.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. To be totally honest, we had a rough start, but that was partially because of the unusual build they were doing for my bike, but it worked out wonderfully in the end and they are now my primary shop, not just for my family bike but for my commuter and racing bikes as well. A good thing to remember is that they will happily service any bike, not just the family and electric bikes they sell, so both my wife and I take our bikes for tune-ups, repairs, and modifications there. The mechanics are top notch and all know a ton about bikes in general, not just things specific to e-bikes. Everyone there is incredibly knowledgeable about biking in general, too. Want to know the best way to carry a 4-year-old on a bike? They've got you covered. Need a tip for the best way to move house by bike? Yep. Want to know the best brake pads for riding in the mud? That too. On top of all this, they are kid friendly. Great play area. My daughter requests to go there just to say hi and play with the legos and the toy kitchen. It makes it easy to shop there and ask any questions you need in order to make your decisions without a small child tugging on your pant leg and interrupting. They also offer very competitive pricing on everything they sell. I have never felt like I over-payed for something there.

Yelp
I wanted to like this business, because so many people reported positive experiences with them, and my initial impression of the owner was solid. I filled out the webform, inquiring about ebikes, and promptly got an email from the owner, followed by a phone call to discuss my needs and schedule a test ride. The conversation was informative and I felt he understood what I wanted. I was told there would be an eight-week wait for any bike, which would put delivery roughly mid-summer - longer than I wanted, but still giving me half a summer on my bike. Cool. My husband and I got there and were set up on two bikes to test. We cycled around the quieter streets, then attempted a hill - and the bike was underpowered for the hill, which was frustrating, because that is literally the reason I want an ebike, as we had discussed on the phone. Our second ride, I was put on a much more powerful bike - much more what I was looking for - and the difference was immediately noticeable when attempting the same hill. Then comes the sticker shock - of course, the second bike is the most expensive one they sell. $7k+. Here is where things come off the rails. I would have been willing to pay a large sum, even that much, for the right bike, but even floor models take 8+ weeks (and we're never mentioned on our visit, only the website). And the bike in question was now not 8 weeks, but a custom order, possibly up to 12 weeks, maybe more. In other words, you pay top dollar for the Porsche of ebikes, and can't have it for THE ENTIRE SUMMER - well, unless you pay another $1200 for rush shipping from Europe. Here's the thing - I was still willing to consider it, or talk further - but the owner said he'd follow up with a quote and ordering information "on Monday", and, well, it's now two weeks past Monday, and still not a peep. So, we wandered over to our local bike shop, test-rode several models, and for literally half the price, I already have a comparable e-bike - and it's awesome.

Yelp
Got there to replace my tire that I bet, didn't realize you needed an appointment, but the worker still took me in and found a spare when in the back. 20 mins later got it replaced and everything switched over to the new tire. Very happy with the service. ALSO NOTE this is only an Electric-Bike shop, and I don't own a e-bike but they still helped me out.

Angie A.

Yelp
Friendly and knowledgeable staffs. We always get help we need right away whether it's buying parts, bike bags, getting check up, or getting bike fix. They'd call and let us know promptly when he bike is ready, usually within he same day. Price for service is reasonable for e bikes which are more complex and can be complicated. I have Gazelle e bike and got a 500 miles service here, fast and no problem. Then I crashed my bike and broke a few spokes and needed retuning. Again, it was reasonable price and time. I bought a front basket bike bag here, a bit pricey. They asked if I want them to install it. I said yes (forgot to ask if they would charge me$, and they didn't say they would, and I assumed that I was spending over a hundred $ so it would be free ). They did charge me extra to install it, which was fine. I just wish they told me before. Overall, good neighborhood e bike shop!

Yelp
This is a fantastic bike shop. Davey, Tyler, and their staff are honest in their advice and attentive to their customers needs for advice and service. G&O has helped me build and service my family cargo bike. I would not even consider going anywhere else for this work as they have years of experience and can offer clear advice on the many available options for family transportation. I have no regrets about getting a family bike except that I wish I had bought one earlier. Commuting with my son every day on bike is wonderful and I couldn't have done it without G&O.

Nick S.

Yelp
Family cycle. Family cyc. Le cyc family. Family on wheels. Bicycle family. Family bikes. I got a bike here. It was late and I hated it.

Lesley M.

Yelp
Stopped in thinking I would need my tires replace after my bike was "stored" outside for a couple of winters. Staff here examined them and determined they were okay - Yay! for no unnecessary upsell. Friendly helpful staff and reasonable prices. I found my new go-to bike shop. :)

Yelp
We visited in early June to purchase a baby seat, and were told they wouldn't sell us a seat but we could bring our bike in and they would install one same day... But they were very busy so we'd need to "get on the schedule". We scheduled a date with them for their soonest available time in early July to install the baby seat and tune the bike. When we brought the bike in on our month-in-advance scheduled day, they did not have the bike seat we asked for and did not time the bike that day either. Apparently getting on the schedule did nothing and they were not prepared to help us, even after we had waited a month. They promised to have the seat ordered and ready in a week. We patiently waited until the next Friday, and had no word from them. We called and they admitted they still didn't get the seat and the bike wasn't ready. We asked when it would be ready and got a runaround answer. They knew earlier in the week they had messed up again and weren't even going to call us. Meanwhile summer is ticking away... They wasted a month and a half of our time when we could have been riding as a family. We finally had to go pick up the bike and order the seat ourselves... arrived the next day. We installed it in literally ten minutes. It's not complicated, but these guys can't figure out basic customer service (call about delays), can't order the correct parts you need, and can't get things done in a timely fashion even if you schedule way in advance. Don't bother with this shop unless you have endless time and patience and don't need your bike for months.

Yelp
This bike shop is an excellent choice if you are in the market for a cargo bike, an electric-assist bike, or a family hauling bicycle. I worked with them for the first time at their old location ~2015 and was pleased with their work converting my hard-tail mountain bike into a baby hauler complete with a Yepp Mini on the front, new bars, etc. Now with two kids and a decision to sell our second car, we needed to double down. So after test-riding the competing bikes elsewhere, we came by to check out the new Yuba Spicy Curry. It's as amazing as the reviews on ElectricBikeReview.com indicate. Plus the team at G&O were able to set it up with all the kid-hauling accessories I could want in a timely manner. This is a great locally owned family friendly bike shop. Go give them a test-ride!

Taylor K.

Yelp
One of my crazy bike friends (said with all love) had a last minute going away party/bike ride. The plan was to go on a ride up the Burke Gillman, look at dogs and generally chill and have a good time. The problem was I was dogsitting a wonderful corgi named Edward. G&O helped me out by at the last minute renting me a great bucket bike so I could bring the puppy along. Such a great day. Thanks Davey and crew!!

R R.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this bike shop. Even if they don't have what I need, they're so connected with the Seattle bicycling community that they can make a recommendation. They're a no-pressure shop. They want customers to make give thoughtful consideration to a significant purchase. Their willingness to allow test rides of the bikes is, I'm sure, instrumental in their ability to develop meaningful relationships with each and every customer.

John D.

Yelp
An amazing asset to Seattle's cycling community and to the Greenwood neighborhood. So happy they bounced back from the Greenwood explosion that damaged their old location.

Sudha N.

Yelp
What can I say about this amazing shop? They are 100% the best. Davey and Tyler will answer all your cycling questions. They helped me figure out which e-bike to get and then when there was a very unusual and unexpected snafu they helped me figure that out too! They are a small shop, and it might take a moment for them to get you on the calendar but folks -this is the real small biz deal. I drive across town to make sure my $$ go to G&O. Super happy with my purchase and with the ongoing relationship for any future cycling needs! Thank you G&O!

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Love this little community bike shop- they keep our family up and rolling. My 4 year old has grown up with bikes from this shop and has become quite the confident cyclist. Davey ( owner) is a joy to have in the community, personable and super knowledgeable. Really- the same goes for all the employees at the shop. Can also speak highly about the quality of the repairs that his team does. Twice they have beat out their estimated repair time and had the wheels back to us sooner than expected. Cheers!

Eli G.

Yelp
I'd heard great things about this store for months through word-of-mouth from a few friends who are the most bike-smart people I know. I finally dropped by today because I needed some work on a brand of Dutch bike (VANMOOF) that's so obscure that the nearest dealers are 200 and 830 miles away, respectively. So I admit I was a bit stressed about finding a place that knew how to work on it. I was immediately relieved when I came in, and Davey's first reaction wasn't "WTF?", but genuine excitement for my bringing him an unfamiliar type of bike to work on. Overall, two thumbs up. This is more the kind of practical bike store I'd have expected to find in a place like Portland. So glad we have something like it in Seattle. Kudos for: - obvious and genuine love of what they're doing - trying to keep prices reasonable - making those of us who know what we want, but aren't gear heads (and don't aspire to be), feel comfortable in a bike store. - obvious pragmatic knowledge (everything Davey said lined up with what my friends who I totally trust as bike experts say + what I read on Amazon reviews + appropriate disdain for hype ;-) UPDATED 1/31/2015: Got my bike back. Great work. They really undercharged for their labor (but I'm broke so not complaining ;-).

Bryan W.

Yelp
I've wanted to visit this shop ever since I first heard of it, and finally made it today while visiting friends in Seattle. It lives up to its billing as a cargo and family bike paradise. The vibe is friendly and inviting, and the bikes are as awesome as expected. Worth the visit!

Kelly E.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible experience. They obviously do this because they love it. They were so kind every step of the way and I'm absolutely obsessed with my new bike. I had such a good experience that not only do I fully recommend them, I go out of my way to tell people about my positive experience. Thank you for everything!

Morgan M.

Yelp
This is probably the friendliest, most wholesome business you'll ever visit. It's a joy coming in here. The shop is beautiful and everyone is kind and welcoming, which is so appreciated as bike shops can be intimidating to new riders! Products combined with their enthusiasm makes you want to making riding a bigger part of your life!

Stephanie S.

Yelp
This place is great! Friendly staff, super knowledgeable in service and sales departments. Wonderful selection of e-bikes and cargo bikes.

James W.

Yelp
They carry a unique selection of "car replacement" bicycles as well as some rare and fine rides such as the Brompton. Davey and company are dedicated to their craft and fun to talk to.

Keyth S.

Yelp
I will go here when I am ready for a quality bike. I appreciate the apology and sincerity. That is all it takes: awareness that you offended a potential customer and the respect to reply. The other bike place I reviewed at the same time never responded so my business will go to G&O.

Jaladhi P.

Yelp
I am so jealous that Seattle has such a great resource for families on bikes. I don't even live in Seattle but Davey Oil still helped me out in picking the right accessories for my bike. He is truly an amazing resource. I wish everyone at G&O all the best with their move. I hope to visit this amazing shop someday when I am in Seattle.

Jason K.

Yelp
My family bought from G&O many years ago and have been back for upgrades and repairs many many times. Davey, Tyler and all the good people who work there have always been professional and helpful. I am what has been nicely called a " hard user" of our longtail and Have needed repairs that have and have not been all my fault. I have never once felt pressured to by something I did not want or fix something that did not need to be fixed. This includes when we were buying our bike. The store is fast becoming a Seattle institution and rightfully so.

Adrianne H.

Yelp
Already editing - we received their email quote WHILE I WAS WRITING THIS REVIEW. What a bummer. Changing to 4-stars. Just wish we would have heard from them in a more timely manner and didn't have to check in to ask for the quote several times. To start, it is important to note that our time in the shop speaking to Marley and Tyler was great. We were shopping for an electric cargo bike that can carry our two youngest, but our teenager was also there. We took up some space and quite a bit of time asking questions and test riding a couple of different bikes. Marley & Tyler we're nothing but gracious and helpful. As we were wrapping up our visit and trying to decide between two bikes, Marley offered to email us an itemized quote so we could see the breakdown. ($5,000-$6,000, so we want to be confident we're picking the best one for our family.) That was Sunday afternoon. She said she would send it over shortly. By Sunday evening we had not seen anything so my husband called to make sure they had our correct email address. The guy who answered the phone was also very nice, and let us know that quotes usually go out on Monday's. All good. He thanked us for our patience - still a very pleasant interaction! We waited, and did not hear from them. The shop is closed Monday & Tuesday, so we waited until Wednesday to call. No answer, and no return call to our voicemail. Also emailed with no response. Ultimately, we took what we had learned from our visit/test rides and made the purchase from another small local bike shop. I felt like I couldn't beg G & O to seep me a bike. I hope our experience is not the norm, and given their reviews, it seems like we slipped through the cracks somehow. Thankful for their knowledge, wish we could have completed the deal!

Janet P.

Yelp
I love this place! I have been going to this bike shop for years even though I don't have a family. I am a cycling fanatic and love cargo bikes. Yes the store serves the needs of those who want to have a family but no car, but it is for everyone AND it creates a sense of family among its customers. They have helped me with so many issues with my bikes from a bent frame this morning to helping me assemble my Haul-a-Day. Davey and Tyler are the best. They have created both a successful business AND a community which they are dedicated to serving. I encourage you walk through their door and have an experience that is so much more than a business transaction.

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Stopped in today and asked a bunch of novice family bike questions. Tyler was very nice, helpful and patient. This is a friendly place with a nice setup and it seems that if you wanted to figure out a good bike fit for your family then they would be able to advise you on What you need. They seem to have experience and knowledge, but present it in a friendly non pretentious way. I highly recommend stopping in here if you're looking for a family bicycle.

Tanner H.

Yelp
I called Tyler just before closing for a hard to find part that is discontinued. They put me on hold and went above and beyond to find the part on the shelf and took my order over the phone. Tyler took care of me even though I wasn't spending a ton of money. Solid shop.

Yiling W.

Yelp
Davey and Tyler just opened up this summer, and I was glad to finally have an excuse to go in and give them a try. Their service for brake replacement was good, and given with plenty of friendly and unpretentious manner. They even initially were willing to say that I might not need to replace them (until they saw the rear brake pads). Friendly earnest and unpretentious service is really all I can ask for in a Seattle bike shop. Due to some vaguely-desired timing needs, they were even nice enough to let me pick up the bike a little outside their normal storefront times. Pricing was within reason too. I look forward to going back when I have another good excuse for bike service.

Steve B.

Yelp
The guys at G&O are AMAZING!! I spent over 2 hours asking questions about what the best bike fit for me would be. They were incredibly gracious, ridiculously knowledgable and super nice. All this while my 2 year old ran ran amok throughout their store. Seriously a great shop run by super nice guys.

Kristen G.

Yelp
These guys helped me out with my family biking in every way possible. I'm new to family biking and biking in Seattle. They were able to knowledgeably answer all of my questions and willing to just have an honest conversation about family biking from all directions at any time. With their assistance, I now have a bike equipped with everything I need to tote my little guy around town. They could not be more supportive, honest, and just outright passionate about what they do.

Sydney W.

Yelp
I visited this shop with some brake issues and was hoping to make an appointment to get it fixed.  The nearest available appointment date was 2 weeks out, but I was told to visit a different bike shop nearby to get service sooner. I went to the other shop and was laughed at and told that G&O Family Cyclery was using me to play a prank on them and I was a pawn in their joke because they also couldn't fix my bike for 2 weeks. I am very disappointed and upset with how I was treated by G&O cyclery. They wasted my time, but more importantly, they embodied the stereotype of male chauvinism in the cycling industry. This made me, a young woman, feel completely unwelcome and not taken seriously as a cyclist in their shop. I do not recommend this shop to other women or anyone that does not fit the "50 year old white man in lycra" stereotype because you will not be taken seriously or treated with respect.

Anny G.

Yelp
This is the most relaxed, friendliest, welcoming bike shop I have ever been to. If you are interested in taking the plunge into family biking or cargo biking, or just need some cool bike accessories, these guys are great. Davey and Tyler go out of their way to be friendly, explain things to you, and learn your name. They are super involved in the local bike community, and clearly love their products. The shop itself has a train table, which is perfect to entertain your kids.

Katie T.

Yelp
I made a Yelp account just to spread the word about how great this place is. After a collision with a car, I visited several local shops to have my bike repaired. G&O stood out by leaps and bounds, and I was impressed by how professional, kind, intelligent and knowledgable they are. They're clearly very connected in the biking community and bolstered me after the accident. I'm so grateful for their friendly support and depth of knowledge about bikes. I'm definitely going to make this my regular bike shop.

Kevin C.

Yelp
I stopped by the shop this evening after noticing one of the tires on our son's stroller was flat. It was a unique tube size and anticipated needing to leave the tire at least for the evening but was pleasantly surprised when it was taken care of immediately. The staff member turned out to be one of the owners who set aside the project he was working on to patch the tire then explained how to prevent it in the future as he pumped up the other two tires. It is true neighborhood shop and a valuable asset in Greenwood!

Eileen T.

Yelp
Called to get some info, rainy day, early so likely not busy. The guy I spoke with would not spend more than a minute or two and that convo was all about me coming into the store. I said I wanted to make sure the bike I want to test was in the store...could not seem to get that info. Weird. Done and moving on.

Jon S.

Yelp
Just want to give a shout out to G & O Family Cyclery http://familycyclery.com/ for helping me kit out my Big Dummy. They are pushing the envelope for what a bike shop should be. They understand the long tail community like none of the other bike shops I've been too and they're friendly too. If you ever visit Seattle, their shop is well worth the visit.

lindsey b.

Yelp
This is a fantastic bike shop you should come visit if you are in the market for or just curious about family bikes! My husband and I were looking for a bike to tote around our two kiddos who aren't quite pedaling on their own yet. We came into the shop on at least two occasions to test ride and ask numerous questions which I'm sure took up at least 2 hours. Davey explained every possibility within the xtracycle cargo bike, which we purchased and are anxiously awaiting. Their service is fantastic, they are not intimidating, and no question was treated like a dumb one. Really a great shop. Wish there were more like this one.

Catherine I.

Yelp
We stopped in on Davey and Tyler last Saturday. We had flown into Seattle from Virginia. I found them online after searching for a place to buy cargo bikes. Despite being very busy, they made time to let us try out four bikes in the over four hours we were there. They were super helpful in helping us select our cargo bike. They have a fabulous curated selection of bikes, kid seats, bike parts, bike accessories-- truly the best and most functional selection out there. I could only walk out w/ a bell and a book but if we hadn't been from across the country you can guarantee I'd be back. They were super helpful and friendly and patient with my bike enthusiasm coupled with complete bike ignorance. I left with a better knowledge of e-assist, pros and cons of different types of frame sets and parts, and what will be a best fit for our family. Their shop is super kid friendly and just a happy place all around. They even gave me some dinner recommendations which we loved.
