If you don't have time to read here is the takeaway- Get the fried chicken and you better know how many hours you want to sing prior to getting there. No such thing as, playing by ear, or "lets see how we feel after an hour", or if you discovered you're the next Mariah Carey and can hit that note only dogs can hear....sorry you're going to have to come back another day.
We made reservations online for the karaoke room and it was simple and easy. It was a school night, and every parking spot was taken, so you can imagine how perturbed I was when I saw one motorcycle taking up a whole spot, when there are spots directly to the left of it that's just enough space for not one, but two motorcycles to fit. A friend went inside and ask where else can we park since she's been circling the neighborhood for a while for a spot. The staff said we can park across the street. Fingers crossed we don't get towed...
We ended up doing as we were told, but Seminole Heights doesn't feel the same as Hyde Park. So here we are, across the street from the restaurant, playing Frogger with our life on Nebraska Avenue.
When we get inside, it's cute, fun, hippy atmosphere- as expected with any restaurant/establishment in Seminole Height. It's a vibe. We were escorted to our karaoke room, which was beautiful with the graffiti art, spacious seats, and natural and fun lighting. There were standard equipment as like all karaoke room type places, microphones (4), televisions (2) , and an ipad to search for your songs and add in queue. We had a quick tutorial and were left to do our own thing.
If you need anything, there's a button you can push and they'll come and check on you. But you can't order food with the person who comes to you. You have to do it on your phone...well I guess my mom and her friends aren't coming here to karaoke. Anyway, it takes away from the customer service piece, it takes time from your one hour allotment because boy, do they start that timer almost immediately, and then someone is stuck on their phone ordering for the group and not able to start singing. Thankfully we are on top of it and already had some songs in mind so started putting those in queue.
They came to bring our food order and drinks. Later in the evening, one friend wanted a coke, and the server said sorry, you have to do it on your phone. Literally, by the time she got her phone, scanned the QR code, hit add, then added her credit card information, he could've been back with her coke. Oh and the kicker was it didn't work, so we had to go find someone to order the coke and input it in the system for us. Quick history- they told us at the beginning any of our phones could order the items, and it'll be on the same bill as we planned on splitting...guess they have to "okay" it from their computer system prior to having multiple phones sync to one bill. Moving on...
We're singing our hearts out, we're pretending we're Britney Spears, to one of the Spice Girls, to Nicki Minaj. We're having an absolutely good time despite a few minor annoyances. Then that timer went to 0, mid-song, and we were like oh, maybe we just have to let them know we want another hour. Because in many many karaoke establishments I've been to in my lifetime, you just add another hour or three.
Well, we push the help button, and the kind server told us unfortunately, we can't continue on as they have another reservations after us. It turns out, you have to know exactly how long you'd like to sing and from that guessing game make that specific reservation time. No where on the website or reservation, where it states, you should reserve however long you need, or if you plan on singing for more than one hour, please reserve multiple spots. But the times on the reservations are odd they're 7:45 or 9:45pm for example...so does that mean someone else booked at 8:45pm? Also, they only have ONE karaoke room so like I said, you better know how long you and your posse wants to hang out and make the appropriate reservations. And get the fried chicken, it was good. I'm willing to try again now that I know all the parameters from this first go around, but it won't be soon.
