I used to frequent Gangnam before COVID, but it's changed quite a bit since then. The portions are noticeably smaller now, and they seem to add more fillers to the dishes.
One frustrating change is that they now only seat one table in the restaurant at a time. Even though the place wasn't busy, we had to wait until the previous table finished before we could be seated. With only one staff member working, service was understandably slow, but he was friendly and attentive when replenishing our banchon, which is still the best in town--great variety and very flavorful.
I ordered the squid stir fry, which had a lot of rice cakes in it. While still tasty, I would've preferred more zucchini or squid instead of the rice cakes, which felt like filler. I haven't seen other places add rice cakes to squid stir fry, so this was unexpected. My friend ordered the short rib soup, which looked quite good.
Prices have increased, but the portions have decreased. The ambiance remains the same, though it felt noticeably darker than I remember, making it a little difficult to see.
To top it off, when we requested separate checks, the staff accidentally swapped our orders on the wrong cards. Not sure how that got mixed up, but it was frustrating.
Overall, the food still has good flavor (especially the banchon), but the portion changes, slow service, and odd seating policy make it less enjoyable than it used to be.
