GAO - Review - South of Fifth - Miami - The Infatuation

"Gao is a new Vietnamese restaurant from the team behind Call Me Gaby. Like Call Me Gaby, it’s also located in South of Fifth. The menu has things like Saigonese tamarind soup, crispy spring rolls, and some dim sum options. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

The service was great and the food was delicious. That greenery, decor and music were all very vibes and cool. As someone who rarely eats fried things - don’t skip the lightly fried spring rolls! The gao dim sum was very yummy and the Shrimp Pad Thai. Save room for the banana rolls for dessert And the melon mocktail was really refreshing!

My second time here , came back for the chicken curry , didn’t disappoint. We also order sizzling beef with peanut sauce , I had great expectations for this one , sauce was delicious but they used a cheap cut of meat . Some pieces were tough , this sauce deserved a better cut of meat , this is a nice restaurant , with high prices , please don’t use cheap meats!! Goldfish and mushroom truffle dumpling were good starters Desserts are not the forte here so we didn’t order dessert this time . Service was good , I wish our waiter was not wearing cologne though

Amazing. Our server, a young girl from Thailand she was very funny and knowledgeable about the menu. Music was great, the restaurant is beautiful as well as clean bathrooms. The whole place was a vibe and all the food was delicious

Google
Beautiful restaurant, with an outdoor oasis and a refined interior. We sat outside on a gorgeous stunning Tuesday winter night in miami, atmosphere on point, very friendly staff - we even put in a special request and was met with a friendly smile- The dim sum is exceptional, handmade with exquisite ingredient with delish flavor profiles but, I’m going to say not worth the price point because serving is meager Tamarind soup was very good, unique soup flavor, exceptional (but only had 2 pieces of shrimp when considering the price of this dish 🤦🏻‍♂️ again) Then came the main dishes, we ordered skip light chicken dish, pad Thai (small pile on the side if a big plate) , crispy ginger chicken and Thai beef salad. Sadly, they all were nothing to write about, they were all ordinary Thai dish you’d expect to eat from any takeout spot. To clarify, they tasted good but surely not what I expected from a caliber of this restaurant and steep price point…. Not to mention very stingy portions. I would have rated GAO with 3 stars because the steep price point when considering portions served, but the atmosphere and the very happy smiley friendly staff and the stunning atmosphere, I decided to leave a 4 Most probably won’t come eat here again, but I’d come for cocktails on a date night out on their terrace then move on elsewhere for food nearby.

We had a great experience! The dishes were filled with rich flavors, yet everything was quite balanced together to give our tastebuds that smooth excitement. The service was fantastic! Everyone made sure we had a great experience, so a big thank you to the whole team! Oh, and the terrace outside is just so charming. You won't regret sitting outside.

Google
An amazing new restaurant that’s quickly become my favorite! But let’s be honest, it’s the only Asian restaurant on south beach. Despite just opening, I’ve already visited three times. The staff is incredibly welcoming, the food is outstanding, and the ambiance is simply perfect. A well-deserved 5 stars to the team behind this incredible launch! Forgot to mention the most beatifull terrace in SoBe, waiting for good weather to take dinner on it.

Yelp
GAO is a really great brand new Vietnamese restaurant south of Fifth on Miami Beach. A large place with tables both inside and outside. Plus a cool bar. The service Is superb - attentive and knowledgeable and helpful. We shared the shrimp and the pork belly spring rolls - crispy outside and delicious insides. The sesame salmon was large and tasty as was the crunchy chicken supreme. The chocolate lava cake was the perfect dessert. A very pleasant dinner and experience in a beautiful setting. Will Definitely go back!

Yelp
I stopped by for solo dinner after having noticed the restaurant a little while ago after dining nearby. The decor certainly looked cool! It is a nice mix of dim lighting, concrete and wood. Service at the bar was great as well! Being on the lobby of one of the new South of Fifth condos, it has both outdoor & indoor spaces. I opted to sit at the inside bar. Drinkwise I enjoyed both their "Mango Heat" (tequila garnished with sweet mango and hot jalapeño) as well as their take on the sweeter Lychee martini, the "Dragon Pearl". The pours were generous and very well blended; as it were I didn't even get annoyed when some obnoxious New York finance bro looking type asked me to get a napkin as if I were a waiter. There was a little mix up with my main course, but they made it right. In the laws of unintended consequences, I had a homecooked curry at a friend's house the night prior. I mention in passing that I had curry chicken the night before, and the server brings me their curry chicken. I did send it back because I didn't feel like having the same dish two nights in a row. They didn't of bringing me a very tasty and well seasoned crunchy organic chicken that blended hint of sweet as well as tanginess from the cumin. Just as sweet was their banana flambee and associated flaming boozy reduction. I'd definitely recommend GAO for a nice night out; it is also a short jaunt from the ocean if you fancy a stroll.

Yelp
What a great place, I'm so happy that we are getting a place like this in SoFi! The entrance is elegant and simple, hostess very welcoming, the bar is amazing and the Bartender Miguel, is very talented. Daniel, thank you for making me welcome.

Yelp
Savory food in a beautiful venue! Hope it succeeds. Unusually high prices for the apps (esp. the $28 small soup). Rating it 3 stars because of the price point and emptiness.

Yelp
We started out with the spring rolls that were unbelievable. For our main dish, we ordered the sliced steak, and the Chilean Seabass. The food was quite excellent, and the cocktails were kick ass. The ambience where you're sitting indoors or outdoors is truly magnificent. The service when knowledgeable. But they were all apologetic to the whole mail how long it was taking for the food to come out, and our dishes didn't come out even together. I think if the kitchen got their act together, it would truly be a five star experience. It was one of those dinners that seem like it was never gonna end. Thank God we were drunk. The service were really nice friendly, the whole ambience of the restaurant was really friendly and upbeat

Yelp
This restaurant was an incredible surprise with a truly magnificent outdoor patio in South Point. Cocktails are as beautiful as they are delicious we had spring rolls and a gao dim sum as appetizer then we shared according to the recommendations of our server a Vietnamese bouillabaisse a beef satay with white rice. Thanks Sebastian for your amazing service and recommendations and explanations If you want to have an amazing Asian food experience this is the perfect place in Miami

Yelp
Few times have I seen food, service and ambience come together so perfectly. Don't walk, run and you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Great outdoor dining nice big fans for the warm weather accommodating for our dog. The food was delicious. The portions are kind of small, but they are not bad prime location. Service amazing very friendly and fast will definitely come back

Heidi Jo M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and good...little pricey... they should have a few more mid-level items on their menu

David M.

Yelp
We love the food but the outdoor music is too damned loud. They should follow the lead of their other restaurant (Call Me Gaby). Soft mood music that allows people to speak.

Sierra B.

Yelp
Very overpriced. Poor service. Food was not authentic. We ordered the crusted salmon and the pad Thai. Salmon was raw, could not even eat it. Inedible. Pad Thai was way too sweet. The waitress rarely came to fill up our water glasses. It's very upsetting as the setting is so gorgeous but the execution is not there. So sad. Do not recommend.

Vanessa

Yelp
Amazing ambiance, great Pad Thai and Chicken Curry. We loved the decor and the server named Jirasak was extremely attentive and knowledgeable.

Yelp
The food and service was amazing. Probably the best meal I've had since being in Miami for 20 years.

Yelp
Beautiful location, excellent food but excessive prices for the small amount of food on the plate. not recommended for those who are hungry!
