On the Grid : Buona Forchetta

"Neapolitan style pizza that can compete with the best of them. This charming restaurant is a neighborhood staple. Bring a big appetite and patience (especially on a weekend night). The wait is well worth it." - Visceral

The Best Restaurants in Coronado | Eater San Diego

"Housed in a former mechanic’s garage built in 1904, Garage Buona Forchetta pays homage to the venue’s history with an Italian twist. Traditional Neopolitan pizza is made to order in their wood-fired oven, and the pastas are house-made. Gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options are plentiful as well." - Helen I. Hwang

Food was delicious and so many options to customize your order JUST the way you want it! Service was a little weird in that multiple waiters served our party of 2. If the first one had only said something like "we're all linked in to your orders so don't be surprised if someone else also supports you". 1 waiter was a bit curt, but everyone else was friendly and helpful. Also, they forgot about my drink for a bit. I could see it sitting on the bar for a while as the waiter from whom I ordered it served other customers and did other things. Atmosphere was super fun and unique! I would definitely recommend it, and would go back if/when in the area.

Garage Buona Forchetta has a large, interesting interior and an extensive menu. Great pizza and side dishes. Everyone in our large group enjoyed their food. House red wine (Sangiovese) by the glass was delicious and was a good deal at $10 per glass. Our wait staff changed suddenly throughout the dinner, so it was a bit confusing when we needed anything. One of our group had to wait quite a while for her glass of wine even though it was ordered at the same time as the rest of us. (We were trying to toast to a special birthday.)

The food was good. I especially loved the ribeye and the seasoning they used. The tables however are on the smaller side so we had to get some things boxed when the rest of our food got to the table.

The Garage Buona Forchetta is a charming Italian restaurant located on Coronado Island. I spent one Saturday evening there, and it was just the vibe I was looking for This restaurant has plenty of seating, but it’s such a popular spot that you may end up waiting for a table. There’s exterior patio seating that’s perfect for date nights or for people watching out front. There’s also the main dining area (inside) that offers a lively atmosphere. There is also a backyard patio (covered). We sat in the backyard, and it felt like a lovely little outdoor dinner party. The entire restaurant is beautifully decorated. I like really appreciated the small Italian cars placed as decor. This is a converted garage/car repair shop, so, it seems fitting. But as someone who gardens, one of my favorite things was seeing the hanging planters out front (on the fences) that had both flowers and produce growing like pepper plants. This made me think they most likely compost, and I love restaurants that compost The menu offers a variety of Italian delicacies (antipasti, insalate, pizza, etc). There a vegetarian options as well. There is a beer, wine, and cocktail menu. There are also non-alcoholic options. I got the Sicilian mule, and the cup was neat, but it was really just a Moscow mule with a touch of grapefruit I like to think of myself as a pizza connoisseur, and I would recommend this one. It’s Neapolitan style, lightly charred on the crust, thin, and flavorful. The base/bottom of the dough was slightly soft, but it was delicious. The carbonara was rich and tasty. With the pasta dishes you can choose which pasta you prefer which is a nice touch. We also had the calamari, which was fresh, but it had more of a fishy smell than I wanted lingering at the table. Still delicious Some tips: They do take reservations, and this spot is a popular destination, especially on the weekends. There’s quaint market inside the restaurant and you can purchase groceries (mostly Italian), and these are components you might not find in a typical market or grocery store. They also have an extensive selection of wine that you can purchase and either take home or you can enjoy there (with a corking fee/up charge) Cheers!!

This is one of our must do’s when visiting Coronado. Food is always delicious and large portions. Every staff we interacted with are always kind, fun and makes great recommendations. We also love that our pups can join us in the shaded outdoor seating area.

Fun family causal place. Live music on Friday. Large selection of pasta and pizza. Pasta is good. Pizza and apps were just ok. Good service. It can be very loud.

Garage Buona Forchetta in downtown Coronado is a fantastic spot for Italian food, especially if you’re dining with a big group or family. **They take reservations**, which is a big plus given how popular the place is and how busy it can get.The restaurant has a lively, welcoming atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the unique garage-themed décor adds a fun touch[1][9]. **Parking is mostly street parking**, so plan a little extra time to find a spot, especially during peak hours[1][3]. There’s a small lot nearby, but it fills up quickly. We had a large party and ordered a variety of dishes. The **special gnocchi was outstanding**—pillowy and flavorful, definitely a highlight. The **Margherita pizza was also excellent**, with a thin, authentic Neapolitan-style crust that really stood out[1][9]. The **salad was fresh and tasty**, and even the kids loved their meals, which isn’t always easy at Italian restaurants. Service was friendly and knowledgeable, helping us navigate the menu and making sure everyone was happy[1][3]. Portion sizes were generous, and everything arrived promptly, even with our big group. Overall, Garage Buona Forchetta is a great choice for a night out in Coronado, especially if you want delicious Italian food in a fun, family-friendly setting. Highly recommended for both adults and kids

Yelp
Great spot for a relaxed dinner. The pizzas were really good and just what we were hoping for. Our server, Giuseppe, really added to the experience. He made excellent suggestions for both wine and food, and his timing and attentiveness were perfect. Professional, friendly, and genuinely helpful. Overall, a very enjoyable meal. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Delicious spot. Visited with my family for dinner and we got a lot of different dishes to try, and honestly everything was so good. No complaints at all. The lasagna was what I ordered and it was probably one of the best I've ever had. Super fresh, very flavorful, and the sauce had lots of meat. Normally lasagna leans more cheesy, but this one was rich and hearty and absolutely amazing. The Margherita pizza was really good, and the BYO pasta was solid too. We got the penne with cacio e pepe, which was simple and well done. Great meal overall and a place I'd definitely come back to again.

Yelp
I don't usually write reviews, but I was truly disappointed that we chose this location to celebrate my 40th birthday. I've always enjoyed the other SD locations, so I felt confident this would be a great choice. We were a party of 12 with a reservation made back in September for 6:00 PM. We checked in about 10 minutes early and were initially told our table was ready. However, as I was gathering everyone to be seated, the hostess apologized and said she couldn't seat us until after 6:10 PM. She asked if we were celebrating anything, and I mentioned it was my 40th birthday and was told she would notify our server. It took quite a while for our server to introduce himself and take our drink orders. When we ordered a bottle of house red wine, he brought out white instead and seemed annoyed when we pointed out the mistake. After all drinks were finally delivered, we were ready to order food, but more than 20 minutes passed with no sign of our server. My husband eventually had to get up and find him to let him know we were still waiting. While walking back to our table, he stopped to assist another table that had been seated after us, which was frustrating to watch. Once our orders were finally taken, we ordered two calamari appetizers, especially since most of our party were first-time visitors from out of state and we had been raving about how good it is. Instead, two orders of artichokes were delivered, which we never ordered, and our calamari never arrived. Our entrées eventually came out, but during the entire meal, our server checked on us only once. After finishing dinner, we requested boxes and were simply waiting for the check. We assumed there might be a birthday dessert coming, but after another 20+ minutes of waiting, my husband had to flag down the server again just so we could pay and leave. While we understand the restaurant was busy, no customer should feel that ignored for such long stretches of time. It was especially disappointing that a 20% gratuity was automatically added, given the level of service we received. Unfortunately, the service truly put a damper on what was supposed to be a special celebration. As we were leaving, I noticed a "Happy Birthday" panna cotta sitting on the counter that was never delivered. Additionally, the women's restroom was in poor condition -- toilet paper all over the floor and no paper towels available to dry hands. My mom had to inform an employee to have it refilled. Overall, this experience fell far short of the standard I've come to expect from SD, and it was disappointing to have such an important milestone overshadowed by poor service and lack of attention.

Yelp
It's been about 4 years since I last reviewed this location. We recently dined here 2 times within 2 days last week: 11/09/25 and 11/11/25. The first visit was to meet up with family that was visiting for the weekend. The second visit was to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We have been here at least 3 times per year since the last review. The place never disappoints us. My daughter had her HS Graduation dinner and her birthday dinner here in 2023. Needless to say, Garage Buona Forchetta is our fave location. On the 11/09/25 visit I ordered the Juna Pizza: Pepperoni, Sausage, drizzled with honey. It was ABSOLUTELY delicious as usual. The service was good and we sat at a clean table in the restaurant. On the 11/11/25 visit for my daughter's birthday we had an Open Table reservation. We were immediately seated after arriving. The place was pretty packed on this Veterans Day night. We ordered: 1 table appetizer of Focaccia Bread, 2 Chef's Special Roasted Pork Loin Shank in a red bolognese sauce and Pappardelle Noodles, Shrimp Gnocchi Pasta in Quattro Formaggi (4 Cheese) Sauce, 1 Lentil Soup, 1 Side of Broccolini with Prosciutto, and 1 Side of Brussels Sprouts glazed with balsamic reduction, and 1 regular menu item of Pappardelle Pesto Pasta. Our beverages were Blood Orange Italian soda in a glass bottle, 1 IPA Beer, and 1 Peroni Italian Beer. My daughter was served a mascarpone dessert with a sparkler for her birthday. Our server was very customer service oriented and friendly. He checked on us frequently and we appreciated this. We always come here because the food is great, the servers and staff are wonderful, and the Buona Forchetta brand uses really good and authentic ingredients in their food. Overall, another set of 5 star dining experiences within 2 days.

Yelp
I came tonight with my family, we were a big group- probably 14 people. This is not my first time here at this location or their other locations. Tonight, the service was a little slow. Although our waitress, Was very nice. And they were clearly very busy due to Christmas events. Everyone agreed the food was yummy. Chicken is always cooked perfectly, my brussel sprouts were amazing, I feel like my pasta sauce lacked the same consistency it usually has but It was still great. My mom had a couple margaritas and was on a good one. We had a vegan, and a vegetarian, in our family and they had great options for both, and everyone really enjoyed their meal. Their menu is VERY inclusive, Nobody felt left out

Yelp
I ordered a pizza to go from the little walk up window and it only took 10 minutes to prepare The Giulia was so tasty. I loved the hot honey on the side, it really made the pizza . It's a great option for grab and go in Coronado

Yelp
We are regulars and come in 2-3 a month. First, the staff is amazing - friendly, great service, and fun. Second, the food is incredible. Pasta, pizza, risotto, etc. - it's all great. Even the salads and appertizers are fantastic. Third, , this location has a store that sells wine, pasta, sauces, candy, etc. We routinely stock our wine fridge and pantry. Lastly, it's location is the old garage in San Diego and has that feel, but at times you feel like you could be in Italy. Thank you for being an amazing place to eat.

Yelp
We came to the restaurant around 8:30 and were seated around 9. Street parking is very limited. The hostesses were lovely and really accommodating to our baby. They also welcomed our walk-in party of seven with a baby. One hostess even brought my baby a piece of bread after we ordered, which was so thoughtful. Unfortunately, our server did not match that level of service. He seemed rushed, didn't smile, didn't offer any suggestions, and didn't upsell. It felt odd because we were polite and attentive customers. My husband ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp, which he found very bland. The sauce barely stuck to the noodles and had a heavy milky flavor with almost no seasoning. Although it's not listed on the menu, our server said don't worry, we can make it! We now understand why this isn't on the menu permanently. The pizzas were authentic Italian style but also quite bland. We tried the fried pizza bites, but they weren't impressive. The frying didn't stand out and the sauces were over the top. Overall, the hostesses made a great impression, but the food and service from our server left us disappointed. We won't be returning.

Yelp
Great food and pretty large spot! We were shocked with how much space there was in and out of the restaurant! Service was great and friendly. We ordered the calamari, burrata, focaccia/cheesy bread, mushroom truffle prosciutto pizza, bolognese, and lamb risotto. Calamari - 5/5 - I liked it a lot! It was light and crispy, perfect for sharing. Burrata - 4/5 - I love burrata! I wish that there was something more to this dish. Focaccia/cheesy bread - 4/5 - tasty, pretty cheesy. The kids loved it! Pizza - 4/5 - tasty! This was probably my husband's favorite. Bolognese - 4/5 - loved the fresh noodles! The kids liked this one too. Lamb risotto - 4/5 - this was highly recommended by the staff. The meat fell off the bones and the risotto was delicious. I wish that it was a little more flavorful though. Overall, a great spot to meet up with friends and family!

Yelp
Visiting San Diego and this place had amazing pasta. We ordered fresh pappardelle pasta with their signature buona forchetta sauce made w cream & egg yolk & parmigiano, amazing! The wood fired pepperoni pizza was very good, and the garlic focaccia was excellent! My kids loved the food here, reservations are probably a good idea. We came a few minutes before they open for dinner on a Tuesday night and there were people waiting, but we got a table within 10min. after they opened.
google avatar

Yelp
There is a walk up cafe where you can order coffee and desserts. We visited for a sweet treat. Ordered a cheese cake slice with strawberries on top and a lemon bar for $13. The desserts were not too sweet. The cheesecake could have had more of a crust to it for our liking. The lemon bar has a nice fresh lemon taste and was not too tart. There is a main restaurant and a market place attached. We just didn't make our way into the other spaces. Selections looked great for all ages and casual.

Yelp
The best Italian food on the island! We ordered the Regina Margherita pizza, the Sergio pizza, and an order of the Buona Forchetta Pasta. Delicious!! Loved the creamy pasta combined with the marinara on top and the Margherita was to die for. Portions are very generous-- 3 of us split these dishes and we still had leftovers. Complimentary bread service is always a plus! Garage Buona Forchetta is a great option on Coronado for a nice Italian dinner for families or date nights. The ambience is lovely with dim lighting and the decor is really cool. There's even a shop inside the restaurant where you can buy groceries and other products from Italy. Waitstaff was friendly! There are locations all over SD and a couple in OC, but this one's my favorite :)

Yelp
My family's new FAVORITE MUST EAT AT spot in Coronado. All 7 of us came on a busy friday night, the service was fantastic, and our experience was amazing. We started off with Calamari and Brussel sprouts. Best calamari we have ever had, the batter was light and the rings were great. The Brussels were great too. Two of us got the Ciopinno (loaded with fish/Shrimp), Two others got the pasta with burrata, one pesto (very very good) and the gluten free pizza (also was a stand out). The espresso martini and mule were the favorite drinks. Can't wait to come back and try more!
google avatar

Yelp
Best pizza in Coronado! We love the Nicola pizza, but the Garage Buona Forchetta also has incredible breakfast too. We love getting coffee and chai tea at the cafe in the morning and pizza to go in the evenings. They make the best Chai Tea! We love the takeout window with the Cafe attached. The service is fast and kind and the ambiance is very Italian. This is definitely our go to pizza place in Coronado!
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
The restaurant is decked out in Halloween decorations right now - so fun!!! We got a salad and a couple gluten free pizzas. The crust was so fluffy and chewy, I would not have known they were gluten free! I can't believe we haven't been before, but we will definitely be back. This place is NOT celiac safe though. It says right on the menu that flour contamination is possible.

Yelp
Fantastic GLUTEN FREE food. Amazing service. My grandson ate in the car inside the restaurant. Great ambiance. Fast. Friendly.

Yelp
This was my first time at this location! I've been to the one in south park a couple of years ago. Came here for a friends goodbye dinner and the food was good/average. I got a risotto dish and we all shared a bit of our dishes with eachother. Pizza, pasta, risotto, salad and dessert. The place is spacious, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting! Our service was great! Our waiter knew everything about the menu and was helpful. Overall, it's nice spot and a night out with great friends!

Yelp
I loved this place a ton! The service, the food, the place itself and they're soooo dog friendly! I have nothing but positive reviews for this place. Located in Coronado, Garage Buona Forchetta has lots to offer. It's not far from the Del and the Beach. Parking isn't the greatest but it's not bad! There's a good amount of street parking everywhere. There's also a lot next to it, wasn't sure if you have to pay for it though. The restaurant itself is super spacious and clean. They have plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, and their little market is also very clean and organized too. Service was really good as well. I had no issues with anyone. The hostesses were super kind and they were even super kind to my dog. I'm not sure if she was a manager or not, but the woman who took our order was so kind and it seemed like she was trying to get to know her customers. She also recognized us because we've been to the Liberty Station location as well! I liked that the servers were even personable with the customers as well! Food was delicious! We had calamari and focaccia for appetizers. Calamari was flavorful and not too oily. Portion was generous! Focaccia was really yummy. It was freshly baked and flavorful. We had the eggplant parm, a pizza, carbonara and a pear salad for entree and all were delicious as well. I really liked the carbonara the best! The Panna cotta was delicious and my favorite! It wasn't too sweet and it left me wanting more. People may think that this is on the pricier inside, but I think you get what you pay for. The food is good and the service is good, I honestly think this place is worth it. And as of right now, I can say this is probably my top spot for some good Italian food in Coronado!
google avatar

Yelp
Oh Garage, how much I love your gluten friendly calamari and gluten friendly pizza crust. I was excited to come back and enjoy a meal with family here this 4th of July holiday. Service was great and I love sitting in the outdoor area because the weather is amazing. Looking forward to next year!
google avatar

Danielle R.

Yelp
Every time I go to garage I leave wanting more. The minute you step in, you feel like you're in Italy. The vibe of the place is so welcoming, with a cute little shop at the front. The service is amazing and food is so good and comes out quickly. Pictured is just one of my many meals I've had here, and as always I keep coming back for more.

Yelp
Went last Monday night and although Yelp shows open they were not. Also while out front looking in the window for a sign of life, two separate people asks if we were also there to pick up orders they had paid for and confirmed in app. We said no but seemed odd no note or hours listed on door even though it clearly showed open on Yelp.

Kim U.

Yelp
If you like history, building repurposing and a retro vibe, this is your place. This restaurant is in the El Cordova garage and repair shop that served Coronado since 1946. The food is excellent as well. We enjoy sitting at the bar.
google avatar

Yelp
I could've eaten here multiple times since they have a very dietary restriction friendly menu. I enjoyed a gluten and dairy free pizza that was fantastic and there's crust was so crispy. Also got the artichokes which were fantastic. Service was great and fast! Our server was very friendly and attentive. They open at 1130 and just their coffee shop open at 11a. All of us were a little confused and came by at 11 but had to wait. The rest of my party loved their lasagna and pizza.

Yelp
First time dining at Garage. This place was recommended by a friend. Love trying new places. This place did not disappoint!! The vibe is magical. This restaurant was a car repair place long ago. The decor of the restaurant is amazing. Now for the food. The garlic bread is delicious. The special seafood pasta with shrimp and all other goodies was tasty. Now the pizza I decided to try a gluten free pizza just to compare the rate of a regular dough pizza and it was amazing!!! There was an up charge for gluten free but if you need to order this type of pizza it's tasty and delicious. There is a corkage fee of $20 if you decide to bring your own bottle of wine. Definitely give this place a try and the service is great. Junior and Anna was friendly and willing to answer our questions about the restaurant.

Laurel G.

Yelp
The outdoor seating here is lovely and the times we've come on a Saturday for lunch and for dinner we only waited 5-10 minutes for a table for 4. The garage theme is so fun and there are lots of great details to notice, including a table for two inside of a little red car in the middle of the garage. The Nicola I can still remember the taste of a month later because it was so good. Perfect amount of salty prosciutto, mushrooms and cheese. The pizza dough here is so soft and it cooks so quickly you only wait about 5-10 minutes for your food. Delicious. Lina is a bit spicy but with the right amount of honey to cut through it with sweetness. Another great option. Everything we've purchased at the front store has been excellent - especially the fig jam and bruschetta mix.
google avatar

Lacy H.

Yelp
Really cool spot! There's a little Italian grocery section at the front of the restaurant. There's also plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The ambiance inside is very nice, and the patio has some coverage and also heaters. Regarding the food, I absolutely loved that they had clearly labeled vegan options (several). It was all around a great experience, with friendly and fast service.
google avatar

Taylor R.

Yelp
Phenomenal spot. Came in for a large birthday dinner off of a friend's recommendation and loved it. Drinks, food, and service were all fantastic! I don't think we'll ever come back to the island without coming here.
google avatar

Yelp
Easy place to eat at with groups. Parking is limited though, but you're in Coronado, so it's kind of expected. Service is friendly and polite. Food came out fairly quick and all at once. Lasagna was delicious! I've also had their pizza and it was good too! I would come back again.

Yelp
This review is only based on the pizza bc I did not try anything but that! The dough is delightfully light and delicious which makes the pizza so incredibly good! Service has always been constantly decent and friendly.

Yelp
Love this place! First, it IS a garage, and a cute one at that. It has a great vibe. Bright and airy, big but not noisy. The food is --authentic, mostly pasta. Service was fantastic (also authentically Italian!) They have a full bar but the house white was great. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Theresa C.

Yelp
First time here. Our waiter was so nice. We ordered the focaccia and two pizzas (Juna and Eva). Both were delicious! I highly recommend ordering the Eva Pizza. Perfect combo of savory and sweet!

Yelp
This is the caprese salad with prosciutto. What an absolutely incredible experience. I also had the Juna Pizza and the brussels sprouts - both were amazing. The service was also great.

Yelp
We recently visited this restaurant while staying in Coronado. It is more family friendly with lots happening. We shared the Caprese Salad and a pizza with mozzarella, prosciutto, capers, & truffle oil. Delicious. Our waitress seemed super busy but she was helpful with suggestions and got us our food in a timely manner.

Yelp
The food here at the Garage is of the upmost quality and packed with so much flavor . The service with Anna was great. The place is amazing and entertaining .

Yelp
We were looking for a last minute spot for 7 people for Sunday brunch in Coronado and this restaurant had availability! They were very accommodating and brought out 2 high chairs right away. When you first walk in, the front of it is a little grocery store/market. The interior and decor is creative and cute. They have seating for the restaurant inside and seating outside in a tent. Our waitress came to our table quickly to take our drink orders and was patient with us when giving us more time for our food orders. We ordered the garlic focaccia and it was the best thing we ordered. We have ordered the chicken fettuccine alfredo a couple other times at their south park location and it was our favorite alfredo in SD. This time, the pasta was undercooked, there was not nearly enough sauce and the sauce was not as flavorful and more bland. The Amanda pizza had quality ingredients on the fried pizza, but it was very bland and lacked flavor. Depending on the time, parking can be a bit tricky, but thankfully the neighborhoods generally have some spots open. I would go back to their South Park location.

Yelp
The food here was very delicious! I wanted to enjoy the outdoor weather so I sat outside in their garden / backyard area. For my appetizer I ordered the burrata salad. The burrata and dressing was good but I wish there was more greens rather than the tomato chunks. I was between the pizza and pasta and decided to get the margarita pizza which was good! For dessert I ordered the tiramisu which was super delicious and a great way to end my lunch here! Staff here are extremely friendly and I love their Italian market inside. Got some wine to go!

Yelp
Fun place with great pizza. Love the decor or this garage restaurant. Only wish I knew I could dine inside a car. While some restaurants on the main drag were packed, we opted to go off the beaten path and eat here. It was fairly early and not too crowded but by the time we left, there was a line out the door. We had the Marguerita Pizza and Brussels Sprouts. Both were delicious. Excellent service and great ambiance. I recommend.

Yelp
Delicious food! It's was a packed house for a Saturday night! From the outside it looks quaint but it's WAY bigger than you think! Wood fired pizza and artichoke appetizers were to die for! Everyone ate too fast I didn't have time to snap a photo.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best pasta places I've dined at. I don't believe in eating pasta when I go out, mainly because I'm consistently disappointed. Not here, though. This place rocks and never disappoints. I only wish I had pictures of food, but we just want to eat so quickly and never get a chance to take photos!!!

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, but our experience was disappointing from start to finish. Our server was noticeably rude and not friendly, which wasn't even the main issue. The bigger problem was the food--everything was just mediocre. The lasagna honestly tasted like something out of a Chef Boyardee can. We ordered a pizza specifically with no honey on top, and the waiter even suggested putting honey on the side instead. Yet when the pizza arrived, it was completely covered in honey and there was none on the side. Our friend's pasta dish was bland and completely forgettable. Then when the check came, it wasn't itemized--I had to ask for a breakdown to actually see what we were being charged for. I still left a tip ($30 on a $300 bill), which i understand is normally low, (even though half the bill was a bottle of wine) but even the experience and food the didn't deserve one. But the most shocking part was the other waiter with the long mustache hovering over me while I entered the tip on the handheld device and then telling me that I "didn't tip enough." I couldn't believe the audacity. Overall, this was one of the most unprofessional dining experiences I've had in a long time. I should have left zero tip and won't be returning.

Yelp
Amazing food, service, and ambiance. Food always comes out remarkably quick and is 10/10 everytime. I highly recommend their gnocchi and their angela pizza.

Yelp
Winding around downtown Coronado saw the Garage from the main drag (Orange St). From the street it looked like it was a trendy burger joint. Oh boy was that the wrong impression, and what a terrific surprise. Shame on me for missing the full name of the restaurant, as Buona Forchetta literally means Good Food, of course, in Italian! So be it; walking into the side door, we encountered a small market shop filled with Italian spices, pastas, sauces, etc. Proceeding further in, you realize this WAS a former auto shop (you can't miss the small car/table in the middle of the restaurant). Oh, and you will be greeted by wonderful smells of what will inspire your palette soon. A robust menu of Italian delights is accompanied by another almost full menu of specials, so choosing your path is not that easy, but literally, you could not go wrong. Our party, of particular fondess for the purple plant, kicked off with the Egg Plant appetizer with a side of Garlic Foccia. When they arrived I thought why on earth did I order an entree as these two items were not only delectable, they were huge! Our main choices were in the traditional space, a Penne Bolognese and Fettucine Alfredo. The Bolognese was wonderful; plentiful amount of a homemade red sauce with remnants of small tomatoes and a ton of penne pasta covered with just the right amount of baked mozzarella. The Fettucine deserves a special shout out as many times when served, the sauce is too thick (starchy) and sticks to your fork (as well as the inside of your stomach). Not this dish; it was wonderfully prepared, just the right consistency and flavoring in the sauce and very large, and fresh shrimp mixed in. Oh my! As mentioned, there was a LOT of food, so sadly we couldn't attempt a dessert, but we made note to go a bit easier (that will be difficult with so many enticing options) on the mains to save room for them on our next trip.

Yelp
As you walk into this restaurant, you are greeted by Italian goods including cookies, pastas, and even a deli with different cured meats. The decor of the facility is very fun with Edison bulbs and greeneries. There's seating inside and out. I had their Amatriciana bucotini pasta and my spouse had the Carbonara. Both were very delicious with a heaping of parmigiana cheese. The guanciale was plentiful, but would like it slightly more crispy. The wait staff was friendly and came often.

Yelp
I've been here multiple times and the food is always good. Highly recommend the Nicola pizza. I also had the lasagna which was pretty good. You can ask for more Parmesan too if you'd like. Would continue coming back here. Service was great! Make a reservation if you can just in case there's a wait.

Yelp
My favorite memory of Garage is coming on a date night and being offered the chance to sit in the car! The car has a perfect table set for two. They say they always ask because it is a little small and you've got all eyes on you, but it was such a unique experience, we couldn't refuse! It was so much fun to get to feast in the car and made for such a memorable date night. The food at Buona Forchetta is always great. I'm a sucker for their Juna pizza and any and all of their pastas. They have daily specials and I've enjoyed a fair share of them including a short rib with risotto once. An easy go to on our list for dependable Italian!

Yelp
Loved it! Food was fresh and delicious! You do wait a bit for it but it's worth the wait. Make sure you get reservations too! Staff is friendly and nice! Ambiance is also cool and different. Highly recommend

Yelp
Masters at their craft (pizza). I dream of this pizza - it's absolutely delicious. I'm partial to the red sauce pizza options but they also have many no red sauce options as well. Location is excellent. Walking distance to Hotel Del as well as many shops and other restaurants. The storefront is really cute - there is an Italian market inside with pastas, sauces, vinegars and olive oils. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. All of our servers were kind and attentive. This is the stop we take for lunch when showing visitors Coronado!

Yelp
I recently stayed a couple of nights on Coronado Island and when perusing the restaurant nearby to my hotel this was easily one of my top picks. The Garage Buona Forchetta is setup like an old school garage (car included which also has a table inside, no clue how you get this seat), and features a beautiful rustic decor, full bar and plentiful menu options including the ability to build your own pasta dish. I almost ended up not coming here after a brief issue with the staff where they informed me they were closed and I would have to leave unless I was a customer in the store side of their business. I was a little taken aback as their hours said they were open and no where does it specify that the store and restaurant have separate hours. The lady who handled the situation could have been far friendlier than how she handled this but despite this I was already here and 10 minutes from "opening". Upon being seated inside at my table for 1, I was quickly greeted by my server who was very friendly and quickly took my cocktail/drink order for a blackberry margarita. The drink came out a few minutes later and was really well put together and tasted great. For my meal, I opted to go with the house-made fettuccine pasta with bolognese sauce. This came out shortly and I was asked if I wanted some fresh parmesan which he spooned over my dish. I will say that the portion was filling, the freshness was great and the taste was phenomenally good. This was one of the better pasta dishes I have ever had. My only other issue I had which was minor but became annoying was an older gentleman who worked there asking if I wanted parmesan on my pasta. I had told him I already had some and mixed it in and despite this he sent over the young man who had brought my food to ask me again. I waived him off and said I was good only for a different older worker to also ask me if I wanted fresh parmesan and send over the kid again. I am not sure what their fixation is with this but it started to become irritating by the third time. Please note that also appear to have a to go window for pizza as well which also looked phenomenal. Food quality for me was easily 5 stars but due to the way the earlier situation was handled and the constant badgering for parmesan cheese that I already had I have to go with a 4 for this visit. I hope to definitely come back and try more of the great food the next time I am on the island.
