Where to Eat Queso in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"Garcia’s has a couple of decades and a duo of locations under its belt, alongside a solid cup of white jalapeno cheese dip. The par-for-the-course melted white cheese starts a bit runny, then thickens after some dipping and cooling off. The standard bowl rings in at $6, while the fan-favorite flaming skillet of queso fundido with chorizo costs $11." - Delia Jo Ramsey

The food was pretty mediocre as far as Mexican restaurants go. I particularly wasn’t impressed with the rice, which almost seemed like Uncle Ben’s. I like that black beans were an option though. The street tacos were good and refreshing and the steak fajitas were cooked well. If you get the ceviche, you might ask for a separate plate for the chips, since they got soggy with lime juice quick. Servers were attentive and friendly. We didn’t realize they closed at 8pm even on weekends, but we didn’t feel rushed to leave.

This was hands down the best Mexican food I’ve had in my life! Everything was fresh, hot and seasoned perfectly. The service was the best service we’ve had since we’ve been in Tennessee. Friendly, attentive, fast, and polite. I highly recommend this restaurant for family dinner or date night! There is bar seating and dining room seating available. My husband and I will definitely never forget this place, it will always be one of our favorite stops when we are visiting Tennessee.

We ordered 2 carryout meals on August 2 2025. When we got home we realized that one of the meals was incorrect and also part of the total order was missing. When we called Garcias to see if we could get the missing part reversed on our charge card we were told by an employee that he wasn’t sure but they would call us back by the end of the day. The end of the day came and went and we never heard anything from the restaurant. We have gone to this restaurant once a week for the past two years and always leave at least a 20 percent tip. I left a 20 percent tip on today’s carryout order. For them to not credit us back $13 dollars on a $62 dollar order is insulting. They have lost us as customers forever. I hope the $13 was worth it.

Best tamales I've had since I was a child. Overall good food. The rice was not our favorite. Service was slow & they weren't packed out. Thankfully after a slow start, it was good service. I would not return on my own but I would recommend the Tamales. It's hard to hear because of the music. There are other places to try.

Google
Garcia’s is a good place to have a dinner out on the patio. The food is good and never disappoints. The service is good about getting the food order in and having chips and salsa at the table. The atmosphere is good and feels authentic in the surrounding area. The price of what you get is worth every penny.

The waiter was patient as we took forever looking over the menu. He was a pleasure. The food was superb, and the margaritas were delicious. I'm not a salsa guy, but I equally partook if not took over it's consumption haha. Also ordered flan, made exceptionally well. Not a crumb left.

Google
I wasn't super thrilled with this place. It was just average Mexican food and my crazy tacos were not really even tacos. I wasn't expecting just finely chopped up meat and beans. It was strange. The queso was a little bland and the salsa could have used more flavor. We ended up ordering the guac and queso sampler and it was overpriced for the little bit you get. I didn't understand spicy cold ranch which was supposed to be creamy salsa. There wasn't anything over the top amazing. Not a place I'd prefer to visit again.

Yelp
the food was sooo good and the waitress was very sweet and attentive i loved the rice and beans

Yelp
We were greeted when we entered. Super friendly staff. The food was bland. Great presentation.

Yelp
Great place for Mexican Food! If you have not been there in a while you need to check out the new out door seating! Great place to go in good weather!! Margaritas are very good, several to choose from, I got the El jefe! Chip and salsa are very good. Add some Cheese Dip for the chips, if any is left over use for your entree. My fav is the Sizzling Baja, the flavor is amazing! Warning it is sizzling HOT!

Yelp
I really love meeting friends here after work, it's a quality Mexican spot in the heart of Cool Springs. The food always tastes fresh and authentic. The salsa has a good cilantro homemade taste, chips are perfectly crisp and warm. I usually order a skinny margarita & the tequila lime chicken plate, it's one of my favorite meals. The flavors are a delightful burst in the mouth! The service is kind & attentive. We enjoy the air conditioned patio with plenty of sunshine and people watching! Also, parking is never an issue bc it's a large plaza beside Target! Pro tip - if you're meeting girlfriends, hop next door for a mani/pedi after!

Yelp
This is one of our favorite spots for family dinners or drinks with the girls. This family owned business is warm and inviting. The service staff is awesome. The best pork tamales in Williamson County in my opinion. The queso fundito is delicious!!!!!

Yelp
My go to Mexican in the cool springs area. My kids love it. The staff and hostesses are ALWATS friendly. Salsa is amazing and a top reason to my returning status. Consistency is key in my book. I'm coming in to get what I always can rely on -fresh salsa. Quesadillas are a fan favorite in our house (aside from the queso dip). Yumm I'm getting hungry. Ambiance is a more modern, street fusion-Mexican. They have a great patio (in a shopping plaza) which is unique to other restaurants in this area.

Yelp
Ordered some food from this location for one of my doctors offices and then ordered the carne asada for myself! It was fabulous, though I wish there was more meat. I should have asked for double meat because it came with 3 small pieces, but what was there was fabulous!!!

Yelp
Excellent flavor and fresh Mexican cuisine, with friendly service. Ambience is not disappointing. I've eaten there countless times and recommend it whole heartedly.

Yelp
Food is great and the service is always spot on. Highly recommend. We have been going for years. I feel this is the most authentic Mexican food in the area.

Kim T.

Yelp
The food was amazing. I had the tequila lime chicken. Outstanding, the chicken was so tender and the seasoning was on point! The service was excellent. I was dining alone on a business trip and Sandra B was attentive but not overbearing. I highly recommend.

Yelp
Met up with some friends here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised with the food. It was authentic and very fresh! I had the Shrimp Tacos & the portion was very hearty! Their Salsa is also super fresh & oh so yummy! I would have loved to add a few more stars to my review but I always base my impression on the service & experience which I feel was not so pleasant. We got there at 6:30 on a Saturday night & it was not crowded. Our server rushed us to place our order & then at 7:45 the bright closing lights ( ugly lights) came on and we knew it was time to leave. No bueno! I will be going back here for the food & maybe take out but Garcia's is definitely not on my list for a night out with friends! There are plenty of restaurants in the area that are more welcoming!

Yelp
I used to frequent the Cool Springs location of Garcia's when I worked in the area, but haven't been for about 6 years. Last night, after a late Costco run, we decided to drop in and give it another try. Glad we did! We were greeted and seated quickly; service was as fast and friendly as always. They have a slightly more upscale menu than many "meat/beans/cheese in multiple combination" places around here. Chips are super-thin and refreshed frequently; salsa is not watery and tastes freshly made. She had the cilantro lime chicken; two large chicken breasts marinated in lime and grilled with cilantro. Juicy, tender, and, most importantly, NOT cooked to death. I deviated from my usual (tropical chicken fajitas with pineapple and grilled jalapeños) and decided to try the burrito chupacabras. It wasn't one of those "loaf of bread" sized burritos that you feel guilty about leaving half on the plate; it was a reasonably good sized portion. A large tortilla stuffed with chorizo, chicken, bacon, beans and cheese, covered with a spicy queso sauce, and served with Mexican rice and frijoles. Totally satisfying. We ate so fast we forgot to take pics. Dinner for two with soft drinks cost $48 including tax; a fabulous bargain. Highly recommended for upscale Mexican food in Cool Springs!

Yelp
Passing thru the area on a long drive and decided to meet my brother in law and family for dinner as they live in Nashville. My request: near the interstate, Mexican, super fast. Now I should have known 'super fast' would depend on how long my wife chatted with his. Food came in 10 minutes. Took us an hour and a half to drag everyone out so I could continue the next five hours of the drive! Atmosphere was great - not too fancy but not as 'dumpy' as most Mexican strip mall restaurants are. To be fair, I like dumpy. It it was a nice step up without adding cost or reducing quality or portion size. Food was great. Their salsa was perfect which is really what drives my love of Mexican places. I ordered nachos which were just ok but everyone else loved their meals and I sampled. I simply ordered the wrong thing. Service was super quick and all in all I would repeat if in the area again.

Donna M.

Yelp
First time here and I ordered the chicken fajitas. They were pretty bland and not really tender. The rice and beans were very strange, almost had a sour taste. The chips were warm and thin and very tasty, but the salsa was just ok. Kind of bland. Probably wouldn't come back after paying $20 for a meal that was just ok. Service started good and then he just disappeared for a while when I was finished and had to ask another waiter to get him. Onward to my quest of finding GREAT Mexican food! Oh, and they use mozzarella and feta cheese??? In a Mexican food place? Hmmm.

Yelp
Fine Mexican food in Cool Springs area in front of Target. Been here several times, liked the tacos and the taco salad, and prices were quite reasonable. Service is friendly. Recommend outside under cover on a nice day!!

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. The enchiladas in particular are a favorite of mine, and our whole family loves the salsa that comes with their chips.

Yelp
Had a club meeting here. They sat us outside; they didn't have room to seat the 17 expected attendees. Was a bit chilly but most geocachers were prepared for adverse weather as usual. And of course, arrival times varied so not all things went smoothly, but staff was friendly and supportive. One guest was missed when orders were taken, but she actually was one of the first to be served. Food: I ordered the Quesadilla Garcia and was very happy with it! Everyone else seemed very pleased with the quality and speed of delivery (and the staff knew where most dishes were to go without asking!). Service: see above. Happy, friendly, management kept checking on us! Ambiance: can only speak for outside - very nice. . I am not going to joke that the A/C could have been turned down a bit. Would be happy to return here!

Yelp
Upon sending this restaurant to a friend to meet for dinner, I noticed a rating of 3.6 and was APPALLED. Garcia's has delicious food, a great atmosphere, an amazing margarita and friendly staff. I have had many items on the menu throughout my years of being a Garcia's customer, but I highly recommend the Enchiladas Poblanas. I dare you to try that dish and give this place anything shy of a 5 star rating!

Yelp
Garcia's is a local Mexican spot in Franklin that sits in the same shopping center as Target. For the most part, it is your standard Americanized Tex-Mex spot. I ventured in on a Thursday evening for a quick dinner and got just that. I was immediately sat and my server was not far behind. She was friendly, but a tad absent-minded as I had to request a straw and sour cream for my meal multiple times. Garcia's has a decent menu that includes all the classics such as quesadillas, tacos, burritos, chimichangas, enchiladas, etc...the only thing missing for me was the combinations. I am a big combo guy, but I managed and ended up ordering the Pollo Bandido, which is the dish with grilled chicken on a bed of rice covered in queso and sided with warm tortillas. Before I landed on this, I of course started our with the queso, as one always does. By the end of the meal I was honestly disappointed. The queso was small in portion for $6.00 and was not very flavorful. The Pollo Bandido was equally sad in seasoning and flavor with bland rice and dry chicken. Additionally, prices were not reflective of service sizes as things were more expensive than they should have been. Overall, it was an underwhelming experience, one that I probably won't be in a hurry to relive. I see the draw here for the atmosphere and great patio that is perfect for margaritas, but I think I will find my Mexican fix elsewhere next time.

Yelp
We had an early dinner here on Saturday. It wasn't too crowded and the service was fine. There is a good amount of room inside the restaurant as well as tables to sit at outside. Our food didn't take long to arrive after ordering. The queso, chips, and salsa were okay. My beef burrito was fine with the traditional beans and rice. I tasted the spinach filled enchiladas and they did not taste good at all. Nothing special here for me to want to return.

Tina M.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 3+ years and never once had a bad experience! The best fajitas ever! Great service too!

D S.

Yelp
Surprisingly bad customer service. First of all, the food was pretty good. The chips and salsa were good. But, the waitress asked us how everything was. Dang it! So i said it. I told her the margarita was really bad. (It WAS!) I don't expect a great margarita in a Mexican restuarant, just a somewhat decent one. Well here comes the manager. Seems he was not happy with this. He comes over and literally FLARES his arms out and looks all around at all the people and tell me they are happy! He clearly acts like I've lost my mind. Well, guess what. I haven't . The waitress asked me and I told her my honest opinion. I just told it was bad. I didn't ask for a refund...nothing else. It was a terrible terrible terrible way to respond to this. I mean, I would not let him bully me. (And yes, his behavior was very bullish!) There were several other pleasant ways to handle this, but he choose to treat his customer really awful. I am not a grippy customer and it's literally been years since I've made any kind of negative comment at a restaurant. (But, the drink was really bad.) So for this horrible treatment of a customer who was not slamming them or anything like that...they get a ONE star. I don't support businesses that treat their customers this way. So, I'm out from now on. There are way too many other places to eat.

Jessica D.

Yelp
The food is incredible the service is quick and I could drink the complementary salsa. I keep coming back to Garcias because I can't find Mexican food I like better in all of Middle TN!

Yelp
Love this spot! Especially in the summer with the doors up! Great atmosphere - clean and festive decor. All the food I have tried has been fantastic. The Flautas de Pollo were the perfect pairing of spice and savory. The shrimp tacos were also fantastic. The chips and cheese dips are also delicious and standard. Not a fan of the salsa it is heavy on onions and lacks additional flavor.
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
OK WOW!! Just wow! So my hubby and I are foodies. We are food snobs and great cooks in the kitchen if I do say so myself lol But we love Mexican and we found a gem!! You can tell everything is made from scratch and fresh. The chicken fajitas were tender and flavorful and for me, the GROUPER tacos and the shrimp tacos were perfection!! Having lived in Florida and love grouper I was in shock that they had grouper!!! We WILL be back!!
google avatar

Dillon M.

Yelp
Cool little mexican joint that's a little hidden (IMO) around the Cool Springs shopping areas. Food was great and so were the margs!! We will definitely be coming back here. The only down side (& reason for 4 stars) is that they kind of rushed us out as we were enjoying our drinks post dinner. Apparently when they close, they truly push you out.... lol

Mark R.

Yelp
The service was great and the food was very good, the salsas had a little different flavor that I have had before. I recommend trying the restaurant.

Fred K.

Yelp
Garcia's has become our new favorite Mexican restaurant!!! Delicious food, friendly service.

Yelp
Pretty good. I liked the salsa and queso. The Quesadilla Garcias was tasty as well. We ordered take-out online, we had to wait a long time to get it. The staff was very nice though. Overall, I would recommend coming here, but watch out for a long wait.
google avatar

Yelp
Recently descorred this restaurant and I've lived here for years! Yes yes yes! Loved! Huge fan of their taco salad! The queso was 10/10 and the service is always great. During COVID you can rest easy knowing they have outdoor seating and they take your temperature.

Yelp
Garcia's Mexican Restaurant is in the Target shopping center in Cool Springs. The restaurant is in a nondescript area of the center. We were greeted when we walked in and our waiter provided quick service and was attentive. The street tacos have terrific flavor. We had an order of the carne asada and Al pastor, both were delicious. The chips and salsa are top notch.

Yelp
Went here because it was close by, cute decor but overall the food was mid. The rice taste like it was out of a box mix like you buy at a grocery store, and it was hard.. like not cooked all the way. I forgot to take a photo but they barely gave me any chicken. The service was nice enough and quick.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
The BEST salsa in Nashville. The staff is friendly and the food always taste fresh and well seasoned. The taco loco is my favorite item! I sub out beans for rice!

Yelp
Felt like trying this place out since I was craving Mexican food and margaritas (when am I NOT craving that) and I live less than 5 minutes away. Sometimes the stars do align... I immediately noticed that they have a "patio," which is the front portion of the restaurant. Since it's winter the garage style glass windows were rolled down, but in the summer I can imagine how dreamy it gets when they're rolled up, creating an open concept with fresh air. It's very vibey. Starting with chips and salsa: I enjoyed their light, airy and crispy chips with their mild salsa roja. My husband who prefers a little kick, asked for a spicier salsa and they brought one out which he was happy with. Though not advertised, we stumbled in (and out!) during their happy hour margarita special, where their house margarita was $5. We could not say no and it was delicious and pleasantly strong. As for their food, I would definitely not call this authentic (us snobby Californians have our own standards) nor your run-of-the-mill tex-mex place. I would liken it to a "level up" in Mexican food, on par to what Sopapillas may serve, but more affordable. On Garcia's website, they call themselves "Mexican fine dining" but I wouldn't go that far. My husband went crazy over their tacos al pastor. I absolutely loved my slow roasted pork enchiladas (enchiladas yucatecas). The option of black beans was a nice change from the traditional refried. If I had to give one negative remark, it would be their rice. It is basically an American style rice pilaf with barely there flavor. Ugh. Feeling extra perky, I treated myself to a slice of their tres leches cake. It was so good! I feel like I'd have to get that again in spite of usually opting out of dessert! All in all, I would say this place is a close tie with my other Mexican flame, and both have unique reasons as to why I'd trade off between the two. Super happy I have another reliable place for my latin fix!

Yelp
Tonight I had an hour to kill before seeing "It: Part 2," (no pun intended), and wanted to grab a bite quickly before I sat in the theater for three hours (the longest movie ever, y'all). I was craving Mexican, so after a quick Yelp search I decided to try out Garcia's right across from Target in Cool Springs. I was able to parallel park directly in front of the restaurant, and once I made my way inside was asked if I wanted to sit on the patio or not. I chose to sat inside because it's very humid right now. MY appetizer was a cold Corona and lime (very cold and refreshing), and their housemate salsa and white corn tortilla chips. The salsa was very tomato-y and refreshing. Not my favorite, but I did enjoy it. I decided to order the Pork enchiladas, that came with rice and black beans, and also requested hot sauce. The very nice waiter said he would bring me a bottle of Valentina and their homemade hot sauce as well. It only took 5-10 minutes to get my food on my table, and I dug right in. The enchiladas were stuffed with moist, cooked perfectly pork, and topped with green verde sauce, pico de Gallo, and cheese. The homemade hot sauce was delicious and I topped the enchiladas with that as well. The rice and beans needed salt (but that's why salt and pepper shakers are always within reach). My waiter was very attentive and checked on me regularly. I was only there for about 30 minutes, but it was the perfect amount of time before my movie. I would go back here if I was craving Mexican again in that area!

Yelp
Dear Garcia's Mexican Restaurant, I have been coming here since 2019. In the past two years, it has gotten worse and worse. I really like you and I want you to succeed. Please take this feedback so you can succeed. 1) The guy greeting people at the door with the huge mask is creepy. 2) Your drinks are not good. The margaritas are just margarita sugary mix and a tiny amount of tequila. You are not fooling anybody. 3) The tortillas you use are very low quality. 4) Basically all the food coming out of the kitchen tastes like the person cooking does not care at all about the food. I have noticed that there are less and less people. The food is so bad at this point that everybody is probably not gonna come back.

Yelp
Woah! That was a horrible experience! We've been once before and it was wonderful! Today, not so much. We walked in at 12:15 with a party of six. They looked for a table, it wasn't full inside. They then told us they were setting it up, so they sat a party of 4 while we stood there, then they said we had to wait because they have our table to the party of 4 that came in after us. I was a little annoyed but whatever l! 5 mins later they sat us at a booth. When the waiter came over he wasn't very friendly, I leaned over to tell him we were celebrating our two daughters birthdays. He didn't even let me finish what I was saying and abruptly said "I'm not giving them nothing for their birthdays!" Oh my blood began to boil. Now it's one thing to say you're not doing a birthday celebration, but to be so rude to my kids ages 6 & 8! I told him that was incredibly rude and he just ignored me. I went and told the manager who informed me that yes, they do an ice cream but don't sing. Which would have been fine but he was so terribly rude. The manager said he's switch waiters but we just left. I was so upset by the two bad experiences within 10 mins of being there. We won't be going back.

Gail R.

Yelp
We have been coming to this restaurant since they opened. Today, we had a dismal experience. We started with nachos and margaritas. The skirt steak nachos had a watery cheese dip, no guacamole, a minced mystery meat, practically nothing of substance. Margarita was $9. We had planned to order something else but decided to cut our loses. So sad to remove Garcias from our dining list.

Jackson H.

Yelp
Incredible flavor and one of the most fresh-tasting Mexican restaurants around. From the chips and salsa to the desserts, it's a phenomenal spot to eat. I recommend the "Taco Loco." See below.

Yelp
Enjoyed a great margarita, guacamole and chips! Also tried their ceviche which tasted very fresh and the service was excellent. I will be returning.

Yelp
Major foodie seeking quality Mexican food! Highly disappointed! I asked for steak Quesadillas and I got cheese quesadillas with onions peppers and mushrooms. The steak is minuscule and my first 1/3 of my quesadilla I had the slightest taste of beef. When I made my displeasure known, the manager disputed with me and begrudgingly took my plate and then charged me for food I hardly ate. He then came back to my table and still felt he should defend his lacking excuse for a steak quesadilla. He also referred to all the other customers finding pleasure in their meals. Then he said he discounted my meal $2.00 I paid for my meal shook the dust of this place of business off of my feet! I feel totally robbed!
google avatar

Meggean L.

Yelp
The food was a moderately expensive price for what you get. It lacked seasoning and portion sizes were small. The salsa was just heat, needed more acidity. They had a unique feature because they only use a QR code menu. I got the pollo bandido which was 10 for a very small portion equivalent to a lunch size. I had to request hot sauce to give it flavor, they had Valentino's which is one of my favorite hot sauces. The staff was very friendly and they cleaned well from what I could see. A lot of customers came in maskless though, which I didn't like. I probably wouldn't give them another try again.

Lori K.

Yelp
Garcia's... will you marry me? Cuz I am in love!! Seriously though, wanted Mexican tonight but knew it would be crazy anywhere I went so I decided to order some to go. I was next door getting my nails done earlier in the week and remembered seeing the parking spot for curbside service and decided to give it a shot! So many restaurants got rid of curbside service which is such a shame! The Tacos Asada with skirt steak were freaking phenomenal!!! I couldn't believe how great the flavor combination was and how tender the steak was! This was after 10 mins driving home too, imagine how much better they would taste hot and fresh! Also got the dip sampler and loved the dips! Good guacamole, super fresh tasting salsa and something yummy and spicy (no idea what it was). The queso is your typical white queso - good but the same you get at every Mexican restaurant nearby. Hot fresh chips too! After living in Phoenix for a decade, I've been struggling to find good traditional Mexican food and finally found it!!

Yelp
Excellent grilled salmon special with black bean & rice. Perfectly grilled. Great service. Friendly atmosphere.

Yelp
They clearly need to hire some staff before we go back. We showed up and there was a wait as expected on a Friday night. We were told there was a 30 minute wait so we went to the bar to order some guacamole, chips and a drink while we wait. We were the only ones seated at the bar. The young bartender was making several drink orders. Occasionally a waiter would come back and make drinks. Eventually she took the drinks to a table, then returned to make more drinks. At no time in the 20 minutes we sat there was eye contact made. In fact, no one acknowledged we were there. We decided to leave and drive down the street to Mexicali Grill on Carothers. We were seated, had drinks and were eating chips and guacamole when the text came that our table was ready. We've had some good experiences there in the past but until they hire staffing, we won't be back.

Yelp
If you like shrimp tacos go for those alone. Comes with three rice and beans as well. Great service and food!

Yelp
The food was really good!! Service....not great. Could be related to the great recession. We sat for 15 minutes before any server/waiter came to take our drink order. Not cool. HOWEVER, my husband ordered the (off menu) birria tacos and they were fantastic!!!

Yelp
Garcia's serves a really good interpretation of Mexican cuisine. My husband ordered the salmon and found it tasty. His order came with a good bit of a cheese based wine sauce. I ordered the shrimp chimichanga and found it quite acceptable. It tasted as if it had been assembled not-too-much earlier in the day and freshly fried. The end result was a non-greasy treat of small shrimp and black beans with (the same) light cheese sauce. The vegetable casserole was deceptively spicy, but yummy. I like this level of spiciness, seriously authoritative enough to make sweat break out on the forehead. The salsa was the same, but quite flavorful... unusual for the average Mexican restaurant. Our portion sizes were larger than medium, but not enough to need a take-home box. Our service was prompt. I can recommend this restaurant completely to those who love authoritative spicy foods.
