"While it wouldn’t look out of place in Copenhagen, the understated craft feel that permeates this Shaker-style 1920s barn is pure California. Owner Scotti Sitz excels not only at curating the exact pieces we want for our homes but at transforming a shopping excursion into an immersive experience. Garde is speckled with local ceramics and minimalist furniture by German and Belgian designers, like Hanns-Peter Krafft, alongside exquisite rugs by Faye Toogood. But the best part is you can actually sleep here. Sitz has transformed the upstairs space into an apartment where the décor changes seasonally and everything, down to the fixtures, is for sale. Spend the night soaking up the ocean views—the store is perched on the edge of a cliff—and sleep on whether you should buy the Douglas fir table downstairs."

Yelp
I am actually stunned. A chair I found on Wayfair, ($669.99)is selling for $5000 at Garde. That means they bought it from Wayfair, a retail outlet, not a supplier and marked it up by 1000%. That's insane. Normally a retail store buys from a wholesaler and marks up maybe 50%. That is from a WHOLESALER!! Typically, the average markup of furniture ranges from 20% to 50% based on the furniture's wholesale cost. Furniture retailers use markup to cover their operating costs including employee salaries, rent, utilities, marketing costs, and other overheads, while leaving a portion for profit. 1000% is like saying " I know people who shop here are idiots" Crazy.

Yelp
This place is the quintessential overpriced "wealth tourist trap" that takes itself way too seriously. Pretentious by definition. We live close on East Valley Road, and heard about this shop and decided to stop in. The owner sat at her computer the entire time and hardly even looked up. I don't get the concept or their vibe. I sure miss the antique store and Bea!

Yelp
I love this place. It is the antithesis of all the other kitschy/beachy stores in the area. This is a store where you can find modern designers of the highest caliber. My favorite glassware and lighting has been purchased here. Is it "cheap"? No, this isn't some thrift or antique shop, those are a dime a dozen around here but you will get what you pay for. Garde is a truly unique experience in Santa Barbara County and brings some much needed elevated style to the area.
