Highlights

Hotel Bayerischer Hof: A world of its own. The moment you enter our hotel you will become aware of two things: firstly the atmosphere of a leading world-class luxury hotel. But you will notice something else, too: we are genuinely delighted that you have chosen to stay with us. The hotel Bayerischer Hof has been owned and run by the Volkhardt family since 1897. In other words: hospitality has a long tradition with us, that might be the reason why the hotel has won a lot of excellent awards.

Some days ago we decided to try the Garden Restaurant for dinner. The location is nice and airy, there were many service people moving around but only one person was taking orders - he kept himself rather busy, despite the fact that not many tables were occupied as it was still early. We ordered our starters and the mains. Bread and butter was put on the table. The table next to us ordered after us and what a surprise, while we still waited for our main course they had finished their two course dinner, had coffee, paid and left. And we kept waiting for our mains. During all this time, many service people hovered around but it seems the kitchen was understaffed. The food was OK, however when I saw the main dish - Lamb - I was somewhat surprised as nobody at our table was on a diet. Coffee was served but the bill again took its time to arrive. When going through it, we were taken aback to be charged for bread and butter with € 2.30 per head. I have never been asked to pay for this in Germany. This is the more surprising as the prices are rather steep; in Italy it is another case but there they call it "coperto" and usually the tables are white covered. At the garden a wooden table with individual table mats. Overall, food OK but not overwhelming, service needs improvement, together with the kitchen. Do I want to go there again??

Google
Snooty service and the food wasn't great. They got our order wrong and mixed up plates serving a vegetarian a meat dish and vice versa. They also advised the wrong wines. They didn't seem to know how to run a restaurant. Poor service. Avoid.

Google
Wonderful place very lightly and space. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Second restaurant of the hotel with traditional cooking but very well executed. Wonderful and interesting wine card. To be recommended.

Google
Ok food and professional service. Would benefit from a midday menu since service is too slow for a business lunch.

Excellent restaurant with fine food and good service. A very good selection of wines available. Highly recommended.

Yelp
There are aspects of this hotel that are 5 star, and then there other significant aspects.... The beds are rock hard and uncomfortable. The layout is confusing. The cooling is ineffective. Butt the rooms are beautiful, and the bar is gorgeous. Butt the beds are hard and uncomfortable. Where is Motel 6?

Yelp
Great location, wonderful breakfast if you choose to include it when booking and comfortable accommodations. The concierge was wonderful and shared where we could get a delicious authentic meal at reasonable prices. The area this hotel is located in is very walkable and feels very safe. We visited in late June and were glad we had light jackets and umbrellas.

Yelp
My whole family has loved our stay here. The rooms are big and very clean. The hotel is right in the heart of so many things to do and see. The hotel has a pool that is on the rooftop giving us a great view of Germany. There is also a great gym( not the I used it) a steam, sauna and a cold water plunge bath. Loved it all. Shout out to Elias who took care of us all night while we enjoyed the pool. He made the evening perfect, great service and such a sweet young man.

Yelp
Arrived at hotel with a 5-star travel company. Assigned us to a room that was 80 degrees inside. Asked someone to come up and take a look. He came, then said he would need to talk to his superiors regarding fixing this. He never came back. I had to call down to find out what happened. He came back to move us to a new room. New room had hair in the bathtub and was much smaller and older. Hand held shower wand didn't work. Disgusting. We had paid for the superior room ahead of time as part of the tour. I would NEVER stay here or recommend this hotel to anyone.

Yelp
Service is impeccable. Staff is friendly and attentive. Several fantastic dining options each with their distinct characteristics. Walking distance to the city center and easy access to the subway system. Rooms are large and appointed well, service was great. Special note to Philipp (three p's) who is very nice and upbeat.

Yelp
Another classic in Munich, the location is perfect but service and amenities were not that good, the room decoration was very old too. I wouldn't stay here! Otro clásico en Múnich, la ubicación es perfecta pero el servicio y los amenities no están buenos, la decoración de la habitación era muy antigua también. No me quedaría aquí!

Yelp
Wow! Okay, expensive, but I managed to get a great deal! Number one, this hotel is all about SERVICE. Everybody greets you and can't do enough for you. While some may find this annoying, I rather enjoy it, as they are not overbearing, they just want you to have a good stay. The rooms are extremely well appointed, mt bed was comfortable, great bathroom; I had a Junior Suite so i really enjoy the extra space. The location? You cannot get much better. Just a few minutes walk from the Marienplatz, the trams, U- and S-Bahns are all close as well, so it brings Munich right to the front door.Breakfast was typical, great freshly prepared eggs any way you choose, a huge buffet of the usual German fare and really good coffee! If you want a great place and are prepared to drop some cash, this is the place- I would say it's the best hotel in Munich!

Yelp
I have only ever been to events at this hotel and never stayed here. It's a Bavarian institution and has welcomed many a celebrity and other famous guests over the years. There are lots of bars, restaurants, event rooms, movie theatre, live events that happen here during the year. They also hold the luxury watch show once a year which is quite the event for mechanical watch fans. The wintergarden terrace has one of the nicest views in town and super classy. Atelier is a two michelin starred restaurant in this hotel and, there is a night club which is open till 3am. The event staff are very helpful and responsive and we have looked at doing events here before. It's certainly not a cheap option but a luxury location for a classy event. I am likely to come here once in a while and will try to check out the Blue Spa one time. I hear it is good and you can go there even if you are not staying at the hotel.

Yelp
Very sad bar. Super Poor Lightning. Mostly elderly couples making Out. Really dissapointing.

Yelp
We visited the hotel on a group trip so cannot comment on the check-in. The hotel location is great as it's within walking distance of many restaurants, shops, and the Glockenspiel. The staff is very helpful, especially the concierge who'll make dinner reservations for you around town. The hotel is odd, but in a good way, as there are two sections the old and new. The old is very traditional German while the new is all dark stone and very modern. We stayed in the new section. My only complaint was the room was very warm, and we couldn't open our windows as there were pigeons right there :-). I called housekeeping though and they brought us two fans which kept us very comfortable. The bathtub was lovely and large, and I used it each day. My husband enjoyed the rain shower, which was also large. No coffee maker in the rooms though, which I think all Americans have come to expect. The breakfast was delicious as well. Oh and then there's the Michael Jackson shrine right out front as apparently, this was the hotel where he held the baby out on the balcony...craziness! I honestly cannot say enough about the staff though as they really were outstanding in every way. It's worth the money for the location and the level of service! We'd definitely come back.

Yelp
Great hotel. Terrific restaurants. Expensive place but worth it. Excellent service. This is always my first choice in Munich. Good food. Swimming pool with a spectacular view. Quiet rooms! Really good food! And now off to a good night's sleep...

Yelp
This is the only hotel at which I'll stay when I'm in Munich for business. My first stay here was in 2006 and I've stayed here several times since then. The hotel is well-located and the rooms are of average size. The service is outstanding and efficient (I wanted to rent a Porsche to drive to the Alps and they took care of it in less than 30 minutes!). The breakfast room on the top floor offers delicious food and splendid views of the city. Can't wait to stay here the next time I'm in town!

Yelp
Attended a Black and White Gala here and was amazed at how beautiful the Hall was. The hotel also has on of the best restaurants in Germany Atelier. The restaurant isn't for everyone's budget but is definitely worth it on special occasions.

Yelp
This hotel is in a great location with top notch staff. We especially liked our valet in the parking garage. Our room was spacious and made us feel at home and the bathroom was gorgeous. We did wish that there were outlets by the beds to plug our electronics in rather than at inconvenient locations by the entry but that's a small price to pay for the luxury of our room. For Americans-no lobby or in room coffee but you can get some a la carte in the dining area. You can walk to almost anything including Oktoberfest which may take 20-25 minutes. Wanted to also give a shout out to Jennifer in the Concierge department. We had a package returned to the hotel and she was so kind to take care of getting it to us.

Yelp
Stayed here on many occasions, and it has never disappointed me. Not even a little. Great, attentive, friendly and professional staff. Rooms are very nicely laid out and does not feel standardized. In-room amenities, hotel facilities (not to mention the spa!), bars and restaurants are all excellent. The physical appearance of this hotel is immaculate, reminiscent of a japanese experience (in terms of the attention to detail). Last but not least, you will often see the owner of this hotel being present and actually working there. As with so many German hotels, breakfast is good - but imo this hotel has the best breakfast of them all, ever! PS Love the keys they have here.

Yelp
I hear that this is a historical hotel that hosted great artists like Michael Jackson, Martin Scorsese and others. Well now they're hosting high-tech marketing geeks like me. From an old trip. We had to pick a luxury hotel because we had to use their conference rooms for some press briefing, so it had to be a luxury hotel. Did I just say luxury twice? I'm a far cry from being a Teutonic Knight, but the hotel rooms and the beds here were made for kings and giants. Because this trip was work related, it meant checking in late, having a beer/dinner downstairs with our VPs in one of about six restaurants (I think it was the Atelier or Pallais Keller, I can't recall), getting up super early to prepare, having a grand buffet breakfast that seem to have more items than dinner (at their atrium-sun-room like Dachgarten (roof garden) restaurant), then having a conference with press people in one of the conference rooms, and finally leaving for the airport. Was I even here? I didn't even so much as ruffle the bed sheet. Rats. If you don't like luxury hotels, if you don't like to relax in luxury, you don't like impressive architecture, beautifully maintained and renovated, spacious rooms, great restaurants and bars, excellent wellness facilities.. then this ain't for you. Auf Wiedersehen und ich hoffen Sie, wieder zurückzukommen.

Yelp
A gorgeous hotel with a history located in a great part of Munich-shopping is close as are the major sights. I'm pretty picky as far as hotels go having over the years stayed in my fair share of higher end establishments I've come to expect certain things from my stay and as a guest. Firstly my room was nothing special- it was small and nice- great bathroom and tub but the decor wasn't all that- a little boring and outdated and the carpet was pretty hideous- Oh and this hotel still uses old fashion keys instead of swipe cards which is kinda cute. My friends room down the hall was a little larger- but again the decor was average although to be fair they are undergoing a complete refurbishment which will be finished some times next year and our floor was one of the yet to have been re-done. The mini bar of course was the usual highway robbery as all hotels are- but the selection wasn't too bad ( I managed to make a couple of bathtime G&T's out of it's contents which is pretty much all I ever use from the mini bar) I'd have liked to see more crisps (mmmmm salt and vinegar!!) Room service was pretty good with their timing although my late night snack of tomato soup was simple awful- my friends tuna salad was good though. Breakfast room service is quick and yummy- the hot chocolate is dark and perfection, the fresh orange juice is freshly squeezed and served by a very young and cute bell boy! But what makes this hotel really special is the newly opened Blue spa located on the top floor- complimentary for the guests- the gym is shiny and new well equipped and has a stunning view of the Munich roof tops and a little outdoor balcony for rooftop yoga )weather permitting. The pool is warm and stunning gorgeous views and a skyline roof- white linen resort beds surround the pol area and there is a spa cocktail menu and snacks that can be ordered and enjoyed by the pool or you can simple curl up in your bathrobe by the pool fireplace and enjoy a good read while your friend does laps as I did. The spas downstairs is where I spent the most time in- I made the mistake of wearing my swimmers - I soon realised that I looked stupid as everyone else is certainly naked... and soon it becomes habit for you to arrive at the spa only where your bathrobe and slippers (unless you place to swim-and even then you remove them once finished) there's a tile covered eucalyptus steam room, communal shower outside for cooling off... an ice tub for dipping in after a hot sauna session an extremely hot wood traditional Nordic sauna and a chill out room with water, beds and music to listen too. Everything is mixed sex-but generally found the women and men levels were quite equal for the most part. Men and women's bathrooms are large and also separate downstairs too and there is plenty of treatments and massages to choose from the spa menu. Heaven I felt rejuvenated and pampered and very liberated- I hardly care that your naked after the first little while and it seems weird when you encounter the odd non European guest still hanging on to the swimmers... poor dears! The rooftop lounge and breakfast bar is drenched in sunlight and makes it feel More like early Autumn then winter- I love ti that the encourage you to relax and have breakfast in just your hotel bathrobe and slippers... so laid back - and the view is sensational There are several restaurants and bars in the hotel to choose from- we went to an amazing Polynesian-Asian fusion place in the basement where I enjoyed chicken chow mein in a crispy noodle basket- a couple of gimlets and the most divine lemon sorbet served on a giant scallop shell nesting on a bed of ice with a cold shot of vodka to pour over it- Amazing early C'mas present from my dear australian friend (all courtesy of his company expense account of course-heh) My only complaint is the room cleaning service was average (my little toiletries weren't replaced everyday which was annoying) and it lacks the 'new room' feeling that you usually get everyday when re-entering your room after cleaning- Oh and the sheets were over starched which gave me a really bad sleep the second night as I'm allergic to laundry starch Great stay overall!

Yelp
Stayed here for 10 days of travel and arranged rental cars through them as well. The front desk was exceedingly helpful and were able to assist me in shipping my purchases home. The gym and spa were excellent and the masseurs were outstanding. The views from our room and the breakfast restaurant are spectacular and rather panoramic. I would certainly give 5 stars if not for the fact that i had some smaller items stolen out of my room. I didn't make an issue out of it since they were not worth much but i know 100% that they were on the desk when we left for austria and gone the evening we returned. Still, the hotel is well placed for walks through the city and parks and our room was pristine every time we opened the door.

Yelp
My mother and I really enjoyed our stay here. We had a slight problem with our first room (smelled smokey despite being a non-smoking room), and the hotel changed our room assignment even though it was a very busy weekend. The new room was a much nicer upgrade, which was a nice plus as well! No two rooms are exactly alike, and ours was the Laura Ashley room. A lovely atmosphere for a mother daughter trip to the Christmas markets! The location is superb, the breakfasts delicious, and the service is impeccable. My only qualm is that the concierge was not overly helpful, and the lobby is a bit small.

Yelp
NEIN!! We have stayed in many five star hotels all around the world. This is not one of them. Our room, decorated in grays and blacks and facing a courtyard, reminds me of a coffin. They refill the plastic bottles of lotion and bath gel, and there is only ONE bar of soap in the bathroom. The hair dryer is permanently attached by a short cord to the wall under the sink, and requires you to continually hold down a button for it to function. Mine shorted out within two minutes. The air-conditioning is inadequate, to say the least, and there is no still water supplied in the room save for one skinny bottle located below the TV set. Beds are rather hard, and the goose down pillows are so ungenerously stuffed that it's guaranteed you will have to call housekeeping for more. Skip this and go to the Mandarin Oriental instead. At least they live up to their hefty price tag.
