"This Junius Heights spot is known for its classic American fare focused on farm-fresh ingredients at affordable prices. Sit in the garden and order a flat iron steak or the Ivy salad with kale and shaved cabbage. It’s also open for brunch." - Courtney E. Smith

The was our first visit here…if you are going to eat here on the weekend, you should make reservations! We were there on a Sunday, and luckily, my wife had made reservations as they weren’t taking walk-ins. We had made reservations to sit outside in the garden area and it was a nice atmosphere. We ordered the Texas Watermelon and Tomato Salad (watermelon, cherry tomato’s, red onion, cucumber, feta and mint vinaigrette) and the Classic meatloaf (with a garden marinara sauce and Parmesan breakfast potatoes). The salad and the meatloaf were really great with fresh ingredients. You probably don’t want to come here if you’re in a hurry….as it’s more of a laid back vibe….but if you’re ready to sit back, enjoy great food and conversation, this is your place…just relax and leave yourself plenty of time as it may take a while for the food to come out. Also, if you are having desert, put your order in early. We ordered the strawberry shortcake after we finished our meatloaf, and it took 20 to 25 minutes to come out. The servers were great, but they may have been a little shorthanded as it seemed the servers were having to literally run at times to keep up. All in all, a great experience. Lastly, it was nice to check out the garden after our meal to see all the things they grow fresh and use for their restaurant.

Absolute gem! Quaint cafe tucked away from the hustle bustle of city life. Yes, the food and service were great; my treat was strolling through the vegetable and herb gardens where you'll encounter dill, cilantro, oregano, okra, broccoli, asparagus, chard, etc and a couple hens in a coop. The collards are top notch btw!! The wait is worth the experience.

Came here for the first time on a Saturday evening. We immediately loved their patio sitting area. The herb smell throughout was just perfect. We tried several dishes and shared everything. The Trout was our absolute favorite and the grilled artichokes were delicious and worth the work 😄 We will definitely return here and highly recommend this place.

Google
I would consider this place an awesome little hidden gem. It's a more casual restaurant with a good variety of brunch items. The patio is definitely the place to be. It's in the middle of a garden, we visited in the fall and the weather is cooling down and it's looking a little like someone's back yard project at the moment. It's so very quaint, and the food is very good. The waitress was a little slow getting us drinks and menus, but we were not in any rush. I ordered a Mexican inspired juevos del sol dish and my bf went a little more traditional with his omelette and pancake. He ordered a mimosa and I ordered a latte. I also ordered a seasonal special a raspberry bread pudding which I liked. I would definitely recommend the juevos del sol, it was very flavorful! I loved how dog friendly the patio was! I would definitely

I was so excited to bring my friend here! Not only for the amazingly delicious food, but also for the gorgeous garden patio. Everything about our time here was delightful. Shoutout to Mo, our server. She was attentive and very kind. Always a great experience sharing this place with fellow foodie friends and walking the garden.

Kamiar K.

Google
Holden was our server and he was wonderful and steered us clear of some of our questionable choices! We really appreciated that and were very happy with his recommendations. The spot is cozy and beautiful, hole-in-wall feel, and I hope it continues to feel that way while it flourishes and reaches new customers. Our Orders ————————— Mocktails: Saturday Sun (shoutout to Holden for the rec) Remy’s Garden (crisp and light!) Appetizers and Greens: Burrata Shishito peppers Watermelon salad (our favorite opening!) Entrees (again, Holden with the great recs): House meat loaf (just wow!) Beef cheek (amazing, very tender and flavorful) Ended the night with a walk to the back and through the beautiful garden. Mark the owner stopped by to chat, he’s very friendly and delightful. Great experience all around! Would definitely go again and recommend to friends and family. Places like Garden Cafe should stay in our communities and we should support them, especially when they have perfected their craft.

Google
5/5. For brunch, I tried the Chicken Fried Steak and eggs and it was solid. I liked the Shrimp and Grits better though. But the Parmesan Breakfast Potatoes and the French toast….will have me coming back EVERY SINGLE TIME. It is so good and The patio is amazing. I would say it’s only worth to come here for the patio. They have fans outside. They have a beautiful garden outside that supplies their herbs and vegetables. And I believe our servers name was Holden and he was great! We added on French toast late and he made it happen to where we only waited a few minutes. For peace of mind, I would make a reservation if coming on the weekend. Came again for Dinner and the flat iron steak *chef’s kiss* and the burrata was divine ✨ My favorite mocktail is the Pineapple Jalapeno Agua Fresca Also they change their menu seasonally

Google
Would recommend at least trying this restaurant! The vibes were awesome & I loved sitting outside on the patio with our dog. He loved being able to watch the squirrels run along the fence as we were eating our brunch. Service was pretty slow but it was a Sunday & they were busy, so I understand. I will say that I tried a macchiato & it wasn’t great… I’m not the best judge of coffee, but it just felt unlike any other macchiato I’ve had (even ones made by friends who are superb baristas). Maybe I’m just picky. Food was great!! Nashville hot chicken was sooo spicy & delicious. Cheese grits were good & the French toast was perfect.

Yelp
My girlfriend found this kind of hidden gem and I'm glad she did! I saw some reviews that said the service wasn't good but we had great service! We ordered burrata for an appetizer and it was delicious and I would definitely recommend. For our entree we ordered the pork chop and the meatloaf and I thought the meatloaf and mashed potatoes were delicious. The biscuit was also very good but I wish it was served with butter. My girlfriend said the pork chop was a little too salty but otherwise very delicious. The setting is very pretty and wonderful to sit in on a nice day or night. We had a good time walking around the garden after we ate and seeing the different herbs and veggies that they grow. We wish that the notated on the menu what was grown in the garden as kind of a fun tidbit. I would recommend and would come back for lunch and breakfast!

Nikki J.

Yelp
This spot is the best of a farm to table bistro and bakery. Hard to call it a hidden gem at this point, it's clear that they were not prepared to become TikTok famous, and at this point have been unable to adapt. There's some general disorganization that's causing tables to not get turned quickly enough and the hostess seems chronically confused so getting seated takes a while and getting your food takes forever. However, it's clearly worth the wait so reset your expectations for a European dining experience and it will be the best breakfast, brunch, or lunch in recent memory. The patio ambiance is just special, in the middle of a twinkly lit garden, with squirrels and pollinators abuzz, surrounded by fragrant rosemary and greenery. And once our server Mo arrived, it was clear that we were in good hands. She has that critical but rare server trait of customizing her service to the guest, both prompt and patient enough to share recommendations, enthusiasm, and ingredients, as needed. Literally everything was exceptional and fresh- including coffees to champagne cocktails (liquor free) and mocktails, as were the baked goods (still swooning over croissants) and salads. Everything that can be housemade - from butters and strawberry jams to ricottas were. Everything that could be sourced from the garden was. The Nashville chicken was also crispy, juicy, and succulent with a great spice. We got as many entries to share as we could and still eyed everything else that came out with envy. If you have the patience, your only disappointment will be that you didn't save enough room for the dessert specials.

Yelp
Unique place and food was excellent. Very busy (we went on a Sunday ) Just one teeny problem with the Mickey mouse pancake we got for the kid - it was a little well done for a pancake though not burnt & it was not looking like Mickey

Winta E.

Yelp
I had a great breakfast experience at this restaurant! The menu had a great variety of options. The service was quick and friendly, and my food arrived hot and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it a perfect spot to start the day. I'll definitely be coming back.

Unteryca R.

Yelp
Food choices were weak! Ended up only ordering pancakes and sausage and the pancakes did not have the crispy edges...bummer!

Edwin D.

Yelp
Got the chicken fried steak and eggs, chipotle turkey sandwich, and their seasonal pumpkin spice latte pancakes. Overall food and service was good, and the vibe at the outside patio felt like we were in someone's backyard which was pleasant. Chicken fried steak and eggs came with some delicious breakfast potatoes and the chipotle turkey came with steak french fries that were seasoned well. Chipotle turkey sandwich was dry and hard to bite into though. Wasn't particularly fond of the sandwich but everything else was solid. If there's one thing to try it would be the pumpkin spiced latte pancakes. Moist and pumpkin delight in every bite.

Jackie L.

Yelp
Everyone seemed so unusually stressed out despite not being too busy but our server was very kind. had the chipotle turkey sandwich and it was very dry, hard to eat but the fries were amazing. Pumpkin spiced latte pancakes were 9/10 super good too.

Victoria O.

Yelp
Very cute place--biscuits were fantastic! Very nice waitress! We went on Saturday for Brunch. The food was great!

Kaitlyn E.

Yelp
Super cute laid back spot in an outdoor garden! Favorite part? No up charge for oat milk or coffee syrup! Server was great. Food was good! Coffee was great.

Ana R.

Yelp
There was a line already formed before they opened so we knew we picked the right place. The food was delicious and the service was great. Will definitely be back!

Em H.

Yelp
Great place!! Appetizers were good, but when it came to the main my sons chicken was dry and the messed up our order.

Jason D.

Yelp
My family and I came to Dallas from Abilene and were looking for a solid coffee place. I do not and will not recommend a place who will not allow a legitimate service dog (not a website ordered form) to enter the premises. Served three tours to Iraq and Turkey and my service dog has a purpose. This place will not receive my service or those who I know. Not to mention the comments from the employees when they heard there was a service dog on site. Absolutely appalling!

Rachel R.

Yelp
This is a nice little brunch and lunch spot in the Junius Heights neighborhood. They have a big garden in the back and patio tables posted around it. They also offer indoor seating but the patio is the coolest part of the experience here. They have mimosas and bloody Mary's and yummy brunch with vegetarian options too. The food is good, nothing out of this world incredible but I will be going back to for brunch and to enjoy the atmosphere.

Gb G.

Yelp
The food was excellent and the service was great. We really loved the quaint ambiance of the restaurant. Grade A

Kurt V.

Yelp
Nice place! Came here for Sunday Brunch for my Niece's birthday. Nice outdoor patio with seating in the garden. I am not a fan of heat and flies, which combined to affect the overall experience. They have fans with misters but they were not in use though at 11:30 it was already 93 degrees with a 102 heat index. Even with the heat, the ambiance was cool, so I will be back in the Fall! Service was great! Service was friendly and our server had a great sense of humor. Food was ok, not fantastic, just ok. I ordered the Cowboy Benedict, a southern take on Eggs Benedict. Think ham biscuits and gravy and you got the idea. Probably not a good choice in the heat, but my choice nonetheless.

Han C.

Yelp
Super friendly and warm service. Vibes are like a nice diner. Ordered the hot chicken, and though the chicken skin was nice and crisp, the flavor was lackluster. Thinking I probably should have ordered something else, but can never turn down fried chicken when I see it on the menu. Recommend skipping that dish here though!

Julie T.

Yelp
Great casual brunch spot. Best to get patio seating for cute garden view of fresh herbs growing. Chicken coop in back.

Anika N.

Yelp
Beautiful ambiance in the patio area. I enjoyed being surrounded by the garden, but there are bugs flying around the plants and produce in case that bothers you. We were celebrating Mother's Day and brought our toddler and as well as all presents to exchange with each other. The waitstaff was patient and we didn't feel judged for having all our toddler's distractions out when he started getting fussy. One of the servers even stopped to show our son a butterfly. If that wasn't enough, the food was VERY good. It was fresh and flavorful. We ordered: French Toast with Fresh Fruit 5/5 Breakfast Chicken Fried Steak 5/5 Voodoo Shrimp & Grits 5/5 The parmesan potatoes that accompanied my husband's breakfast serving of Chicken Fried Steak were phenomenal and my son scarfed down his French toast. I loved the flavor of my Voodoo Shrimp & Grits. At first, I felt may need more shrimp, but it was just the right amount. Prices are reasonable for the location, quality and quantity and we plan to come back again soon!

Joshua A.

Yelp
Every time I go, the food and service are incredible. Absolutely one of my favorite places in Dallas to get brunch. They also have a great vibe and great coffee.

Melody T.

Yelp
Great lunch outside in the garden on a beautiful day. Great service. Enjoyed our meals and a delicious dessert. Had a glass of white wine which was tasty and complimentary. I had not been here since they went full service and I was impressed! Love this true neighborhood place.

Tommy C.

Yelp
What a gorgeous setting for breakfast. Anytime I can eat in a backyard farm setting is a good time to me. The food is great. They do get extremely busy so come expecting a wait. It's all worth it though. So worth it.

Loralei B.

Yelp
My fiancé and I live right down the street from this place, and I try to get him to go here as much as he will let me. They serve coffee at all hours which I love. service has been absolutely amazing and friendly. Every time we have gone and the food is absolutely delicious. And I like that the restaurant has a cozy and love project feel to it. There is a patio, so it is dog friendly. The only thing I would mention is that they are closed Monday through Wednesday.

Katherine W.

Yelp
We love Garden Cafe. The food is wonderful as is the service. A true East Dallas gem! Our most recent visit was for a delicious lunch, after which we toured the garden to see what's growing and visit the chickens. This is a small locally-owned business. Every one we have ever brought here has loved it, too! Not fancy or ostentatious - just great food and people.

Leena J.

Yelp
We decided to check out the famous garden cafe. I was so excited about their reopening that it slipped my mind that it's winter and the garden would be in hibernation mode. We decided that if it was sunny enough we spoke sit outside and try to snag a heater. We were in luck, we had a wonderful waitress, Misty was so nice and very attentive. The hostess promised she would rearrange the heat lamps so we could warm up, but she didn't return until a good while later. We relocated to a sunnier spot and Misty was adamant on helping us the with the heaters. The meal was light and fresh- the salad was delicious. We also tried to the Monte Cristo- it was a bit soggy and the ham was very thick. Not our favie version of the sandwich. We had a pleasant time. Misty was great. We will try again in the spring or summer when everything is in bloom.

Don C.

Yelp
Nice patio area and cozy inside with booths. They updated the dining room during the pandemic so now there's a bar. Make a reservation on Sunday's if you want a good seat. Food is good, staff is nice. Check the garden out back.

Cory T.

Yelp
Need to update to 5 stars - my first review was pre-COVID and when they returned, they stepped up their game. One of my favorite places for breakfast/brunch AND dinner. They have the best staff and the best meatloaf!

Nem C.

Yelp
The food is amazing and has big portions. Great service, the staff is so friendly and cool, and the place just has an all around chill vibe and ambiance. 10/10

Cynthia A.

Yelp
Wonderful garden to table cafe in Dallas. The staff is polite and super accommodating. We sat out in the garden area, party of 8. There is a decent amount of shade. Our food came out pretty quickly after ordering and it was delicious! Highlights include the pancakes ( one of the best I've ever tasted), omelette ( you can substitute egg whites), the Parmesan potatoes ( to die for). All and all a wonderful experience. I would definitely come back when I'm back in town.

John W.

Yelp
Awesome brunch spot tucked away in the Lakewood area! Came here on a Friday morning and wasn't let down on any level. The ambience is great, especially if you're looking for a low-key brunch spot with great service. The vibe here is very laid back and chill, and the staff is cool too. They also have an outdoor patio area that competes with its indoor dining area, especially when the weather is nice out. I got the omelette with sausage/red peppers and fries on the side and couldn't have been happier with my order. The omelet is great and definitely filling, but the fries were the part that really did me over. While there was a $4 up charge with my order for fries instead of a salad (that typically comes for free w/your omelette), I still felt I got what I paid for due to how well cooked the fries were as well as the way they were prepared. They, also, feel like a healthy snack compared to other places that serve fries where grease and too much seasoning can become a thing. Overall, I definitely recommend this place for anyone living or visiting the Dallas area! Do keep in mind though, this place, during the time I visited, wasn't open Monday through Wednesday. This may not be a permanent thing, but was something I wasn't aware of till after I made my visit.

Lauryn W.

Yelp
This was an awesome find for me and crew. We had a reservation for 8 outside in the beautiful garden and the table was ready when we arrived. The garden has good coverage so it is much cooler than the texas temperature and they have these cool fly fans that do a pretty good job of keeping them off your food. Our waiter Holden was top notch, kind and charismatic. He was very intuitive and helpful. Everything we should ordered was yummy. If your looking for a friendly cool vibe with a lovely garden give this spot a try

Jessica K.

Yelp
This is hands down one of my favorite brunch spots in Dallas. They grow all their own vegetables in their beautiful garden and all the ingredients for their delicious dishes are fresh. I love sitting on their outdoor patio surrounded by the perfectly curated garden. We ordered French toast, blueberry pancakes and a breakfast sandwich and each dish was delectable. Their pancakes were especially good as they weee fluffy and the perfect amount of sweet. We also enjoyed some lattes with a special backdrop.

Mike J.

Yelp
A small hidden gem! The food was great. I ordered the French Toast based of the pics I saw online. When I got my food it was a little undercooked (mushier than I liked it to be) but still tasted so good. I didn't bother sending it back because I was hungry. I just know to note for next time, order well done. The sausage patties and eggs were cooked toOur server was on point. He checked on us several times, made several recommendations and held good conversations. Definitely coming back.

Arthur F.

Yelp
Fantastic food, all farm to table. Great vibe and great staff 10/10 recommend! Drinks and outdoor vibe are fantastic as well.

David G.

Yelp
Since moving to Texas years ago our dining out has been limited by the state's BYO regulations colliding with our love and large collection of wine. When pulling up to the restaurant we questioned if we made a mistake as there were so few cars out front. While their indoor seating is relatively limited, most tables were full and their extensive outdoor space was empty due to the cold evening. We had a very enjoyable meal, beginning with very large appetizer portions of cauliflower steak and meatballs and the hanger steak and salmon as mains. My wife truly enjoyed the demi-glace on the hanger steak and I thought the sweet potato mash with cranberries and spinach was excellent if a slightly small portion of salmon. We'll definitely return!

Bess D.

Yelp
Tucked away surprise! Nearly straight from the garden fare. Mark & his crew of happy folk welcome in a way that makes you feel you are topping by a friends house. Menu is tweaked seasonally. Always with an eye toward enjoying the current season bounty. Service is steady and informal. Brunch breakfast and lunch order at the counter and seat yourself, either inside at one of the intimate booths or follow the single hall out the back door to the pergola shaded w fans al fresco seating within cafes working kitchen garden. The Garden Cafe is a no hurry fresh dining experience. The energy of the place, the people who serve you and the delectable delights presented are healing. You can't hurry that.

Laura P.

Yelp
Ambiance is always wonderful & service is great. Two Egg Breakfast was delicious & their mimosa carafes are a fun addition to a weekend brunch!

Kaylee G.

Yelp
Let's start off with the wait time. We sat down at 11 and didn't get our food until 11:41. The food was good but cold when we got it. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The new bar addition was nice for the extra seating. As we where eating two girls walked in, one had a dog. She let the dog on the table and none of the employees said anything to her....this was a little disappointing and down right gross. And I know for a fact that the dog wasn't a service dog. No vest or anything to indicate.

Michael L.

Yelp
To the owner of Garden Cafe: We are a family that lives in the East Dallas area. I highly advise that when you have Mother's Day weekend brunch all weekend and require Reservations for the entire day on Saturday and Sunday that you explain to your staff to be more friendly to families that live in the area. One of your staff members told me that my two very young kids could sit at the bar, but there is not a table for your family today in a very rude tone. My youngest child is 2 years old. This is after we waited 30 minutes for them to open and two staff members saw us at the front door. Train your staff to be nice people. We will not be back.

Jon P.

Yelp
Probably the worst meal I've had since Covid. The shishita peppers were burnt beyond recognition. Everything was over cooked. The only good thing we had was the watermelon salad. I mentioned it to the waiter. He didn't do anything about any of it. He also seemed out of it I don't know if he was stoned, but I would highly recommend avoiding this place. The pre covid experience was just the opposite, all was wonderful.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
My favorite place in Dallas. I take everyone I love here, especially if I want to impress them with my knowledge of local cafes and show them a good time in Dallas. Matt, the owner, is the best guy around. It doesn't get better than a locally owned, neighborhood restaurant.

Catherine R.

Yelp
Decent spot to dine for brunch when everything in Dallas is booked out. I used to really love the thrill of finding quiet spots like these but the more I go back, the more I find some of the menu items here are just 'okay'... anyways, it's an eclectic ambiance and the staff is always so wonderful so cheers to finding a decent and not too crowded hole in the wall of Dallas

Lacey G.

Yelp
Tried almost everything on the new dinner menu and zero complaints. Wow! Apps- I can't stand cauliflower but accidentally ate it and couldn't believe how amazing it was. Grilled artichoke- can't really screw this up but can make it amazing and this they do! Meatballs- so amazing! Burrata- one of the best ever! Shishito peppers- again can't really screw this up but can make them better than most! The new beet salad was the highlight of the apps for me. So good! Oh and those grit fritters- just do it! You won't regret it. Entrees- steak was so good and those potatoes-yummm. The vegan pasta was BEYOND! I am intolerant to cheese but still sometimes eat it with a digestive enzyme because I love it so much. I was SHOCKED this vegan "cheese" sauce was actually vegan. So impressed!! I rarely order chicken from a restaurant but this is legit delicious! Salads- The Ivy is the standout. Must try! Haven't tried the gnocchi but given everything else, I'm sure it's a winner too. And you can just never ever go wrong with Nana's chicken & dumplings- a comfort food delight. Simple perfection.

Monica B.

Yelp
This was a great little spot. The location was great, and the customer service was even better!! We had coffee, and my lavender latter with oat milk was delicious. I got the shrimp and grits with greens ,it was so filling and flavorful. I was glad I tried it. I wanted pancakes, and they didn't disappoint, either. I will definitely be going back and maybe for drinks!

Just K.

Yelp
There were a few flies on the patio but the smell was the worst part. I don't know if it was a dead rat or compost pile but the wind kept blowing the smell across the table. The cjilaquiles didn't have much flavor. The French toast with nuts was excellent. Make sure to get fruit & nuts on it

Diana V.

Yelp
Update- still one of my favorite gems in Dallas!! They finally reopened recently since the pandemic with a bigger menu. They now serve DINNER! I'm so excited to come for that. French toast is a must for brunch. It's perfection!! Love the garden cafe!!

Hannah C.

Yelp
I love this place! The food was delicious, the service excellent, and the setting was peaceful, friendly, and beautiful. I look forward to next time!

W R.

Yelp
Don't know what the fuss is about. Chicken coop and garden are nice. Good for families with kids I guess... many choices in the menu to please everyone in the family?

Mike B.

Yelp
Fantastic food, service, and atmosphere! Off the beaten path and away from East Dallas traffic, my wife and have enjoyed the peaceful environment of Garden Cafe. The food is always tastes fresh and the service is friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast foods and local wine options.

Katie R.

Yelp
Ate here for my 60th birthday. Service was great, food fabulous. Appetizers: meatballs, burrita, cauliflower steak and a mixed green salad were delicious. Entrees: the gnocchi, chicken, eggplant Parmesan and skirt steak were all great and we enjoyed the wines we ordered as well! Try this wonderful gem
