Stopped by this cute cafe for brunch! The cafe is big and spacious with seating. They also have a backyard patio! Only complaint was that we waited SO long for a salad & a sandwich (that was shared between 2 people). It wasn’t busy at the time we went, only 1 other pair of patrons ahead of us yet we waited almost 30 minutes for food that shouldn’t take that long to prepare. The food was delicious and service was very commendable and kind, however we were a little too hungry to fully enjoy the meal after waiting so long!

The patio is beautiful, with tables surrounded by trees. Service was slow because it was just the owner and one other person but it didn’t matter because it was such a nice place to hangout. My friend got a smoothie and they give us the extra in a separate cup! This was one of those personal great finds and by accident. I was really going to one of my regular Chinese restaurants and it happened that they were closed on that day and as I was walking back to my car, I gave the Garden House Cafe a second look and decided I'd give it a try. I checked out the menu and I opted for the bacon and egg sandwich option and asked the lady to use croissant instead of their usual. She was more than accommodating. The sandwich was very good, but it was the whole atmosphere that compelled me to write this review. The interior was old school coffee house darkish, but it felt quaint and cozy comfortable. Some folks were busy with laptops as they worked away given they have free WiFi access there. But what sold me on the place was the outdoor patio/garden-like dining area, quite Eden-ish in tranquility as I settled in for one of the most relaxing midmorning brunch I've had in a long time. I lucked out in that the weather was perfect, I had the patio area all to myself and had no other pending errands to do. Maybe that was just it, that for a short period, time felt unhurried and with bacon & egg sandwiched in a croissant, could life get any better?

Loved coming here after a long hike. The backyard patio was wonderful to sit with a group of friends. I got the breakfast egg bagel with a couple of add one and it was delicious! Janette is a wonderful host and owner. Thanks for making the places special! Note: cash or Zelle only.

such a lovely, woman owned business in this quiet part of san fran. my husband and i stopped here for breakfast sandwiches, coffee, and a chai latte before hiking. everything from the art, plants, books, and worn with love chairs gave a “let’s sit here and read all day vibes”. the service was beautiful, and the barista had such pride in working there and serving us our drinks and food. thank you for being so warm and welcoming. definitely recommend!

The woman who I assume to be the owner is very sweet and attentive. The music creates a very calming and pleasant atmosphere. The plants are very pretty, especially on the back patio! There was a lot of great bougainvillea in bloom! The cafe is filled with paintings and beautiful pieces of art that adds to the charming vibe! There’s also a piano for customers to play—We didn’t use it, but is a really nice touch! The cafe appears so unassuming from the street, but is so large and cozy once you go in! My partner and I both really enjoyed the sandwiches. I’d definitely recommend the vegetarian eggplant sandwich on a sweet french roll. The chai latte was a bit weak, though still good. However, the cafe latte with syrups was very nice! They definitely don’t skimp on the latte foam! Great service, very sweet and charming business :)

This cafe has the best ambiance of any cafe in San Francisco, seriously. There's a park across the street, awesome outdoor patio in the back, and the indoor seating is like sitting in someone's apartment, with books and plants and a piano. Really recommend if you care about the space you drink your coffee/tea in

The lady working here is very nice, I've been here a few times in the past. The issue is she needs help during the morning when it tends to be a little bit more busy. It took 30 mins to make my egg/cheese/spinach bagel! 30 MINS from ordering to pick up. It took 40 mins for my tuna sandwich and Chai tea latte! Luckily, I had my laptop out and I was not in a hurry otherwise who can wait 40 mins for their order??? Secondly, the chairs needs to be replaced here. Almost every single chair is cracked badly, has holes and you can see the stuffing come out from them. It's soooooo gross and makes you not want to sit here at all. I do like the classical music playing, the library and the Parisian cafe meets San Francisco charm. Minimum, this place needs new chairs, desperately! PS: cash or Zelle only.

Food (skimped on the meat in sandwich) service (workers are very very slow, it took 25 mins to get a bagel sandwich and coffee) & ambience (dusty, dirty) could all use major improvements. To top it off, they only take cash or Zelle! Tax evasion much?

Coffee and bagel tastes awful. Never again! Just go to Art Bistro (a block away), sooo much better than this cafe!

First of all they are a cash and Zelle only cafe. So we had to leave and find an atm, their atm was out of cash. We finally got cash, ordered our sandwiches and waited almost a half an hour! Seriously, the place was not busy, I can't understand why it took so long to make two sandwiches. I took a bite of my sandwich and had to open to see if they forgot the meat, all I could taste was lettuce. There was one thin layer of meat hiding next to the mayonnaise. Ambiance? Dated, dirty but with a cute back patio.

Cash only. This cafe has a decent ambiance but is only for people who don't mind filth. There are many plants, a piano, and an outdoor area to bring your dog. The food was mediocre. The trash cans are so disgusting I couldn't touch them to sort my trash. There is dust everywhere, and some dead plants.

My boyfriend and I wanted to go on a Black Friday hike nearby and this was one of the few places opened and I'm so glad we chose this spot. You walk in and you get greeted by two sweet women, they seem like a mother and daughter. They're both incredibly friendly and patient. Eventually I get my two sandwiches, two medium Roma sandwiches on a French roll, and I leave. When my boyfriend and I finally ate our sandwiches in the middle of our hike, we were pleasantly surprised. The sandwiches had so much flavor and suddenly I realized all the other sandwiches I've ever tried don't taste quite like these. I got a mild ground pepper flavor throughout and I LOVED the flakiness of the French roll. My only regret is that I didn't get two large sandwiches instead to enjoy more of it.

I came here for this first time when I was craving a sandwich and it definitely delivered! I didn't realize they didn't take card so the Zelle transfer took me awhile but the worker was very patient with me. The place was pretty empty when I went so my sandwich came out in ten minutes or so. I took it to go but there's a seating area if you want to sit and stay!

I love this place- if you're a bougie critic go somewhere else anyway. This little family business reminds me Of a Parisian cafe but with that old school San Francisco charm. I just had the best sub sandwich on a French roll the way they made it was just right and the French roll was light and crispy. Perfect experience after my derailer broke riding down the hill and needed a place to land and wait for my friend. Free WiFi with a purchase too which these days a lot of cafes don't even have service.

For all the ambience, the coffee was lousy, and the sandwich was really not thqt good. Plus, I was overcharged. Thankfully I had cash because the owner refused to accept my cards. Unbelievable in this day and age.

My partner and I have been coming here for coffee and sandwiches for years. The space is very homey and cozy and the owner is very friendly. The sandwiches are so fresh and come on a delicious homemade roll. One time we even called right as she was opening one to try to pick up sandwiches before a hike and she was extremely accommodating and excited that we wanted her sandwiches specifically. Very fresh food and kind owner, highly recommend!

We finished a Lands End hike and were looking for a place for lunch. When we stood at the doorway, we heard Janette and some customers having a friendly chat at the counter, so we went in. She had a great selection of baked goods and coffees, so I ordered a house salad, coffee and tart. Janette made a point of remembering my name, and when our food was ready we sat in the back library area, adorned with paintings and photos of San Francisco. It's not fancy but has great atmosphere. Can't wait to come back.

Driving through the city & trying to find a good spot for lunch. This place caught my eye online, & once we got inside it was more than what I imagined. This place has charm and the food is soo delicious. The lady who made our sandwiches really took her time making them & she was very friendly. There's even a relaxing outdoor patio out back surrounded by beautiful trees and inside there's even books to choose from or tables to do your morning work/studying. If you're ever in this area, I definitely suggest trying the delicious food here.

Sandwiches were very tasty! A rustic, homey, quirky cafe. The two servers behind the counter were very friendly. Only negative is the tables were sticky/crummy but probably because the servers didn't have a moment rest to come clean them. And the wifi is too slow to actually get any work done.

I love garden house!! Jannette is so welcoming and friendly every time that I come into her cafe. She bring so much joy into the community. Get the turkey sandwich on sliced sourdough it's the best. We were in the area picking up our friend from the VA Hospital. We were also a bit famished from running around so we decided to grab something light to eat. Which brings us to finding this spot for a little grub grub. I had the Roma Sub with however they make it on french baguette. The sandwich was so wonderful that It compelled me to write this review. I would definitely come and order a sandwich here again. Just because my sub was that delicious. The place is really nice and rustic. I do adore the decor, it really looks as if you were in some sort of a secret garden. Also, there was only one person working the shop that day and she was such a delight. This place was AMAZING!!!!! The sandwhich was so yummy and perfectly crafted by the sweetest woman. The place is beyond beautiful and so loved. The patio is beautiful, the workers are so sweet! I have a severe dairy allergy and always disliked places that charge for a milk sub, but they didn't charge me for a milk sub which was so kind. The drink was amazing, food was yummy, workers were so patient and sweet, and the cafe is so beautifully decorated. 1000/10 recommend!

A bit of a surprise given the outside of this hidden gem near Lands End. It is a great stop before going on to explore the trails and perhaps art in the Legion of Honors museum (just 3 minites away). The cafe has an old school interior and a beautiful open patio in the back almost as big as the actual coffee shop, great for Covid precautions. The menu is standard for coffee espresso drinks and teas. I ordered an ice coffee that tasted freshly brewed but not as top notch as some more coffee-focused shops. The selection for sandwiches is wide, from breakfast bagels, to complex layered wheat sandwiches, to vegan and vegatariam options. The vegetarian french roll sandwich was very tasty with fresh ingredients, two types of cheese, toasted bun, lettuce/tomatoe and creamy avocado slices. A healthy kickstart for the day. The place is open until 5pm so it's great for sitting outside without rush. The inside is a bit disorganized, but charming because of the piano and a quite impressive collection of books for browsing. Perhaps in non-Covid times this could be a spot for artists and friends to hang out all day. Both the owner amd the young server were genuinely warm and friendly.

Cozy neighborhood place. Part of the charm is the mismatched furniture, the locals who seem to come here every single day, the irregular portion sizes, the fact that they only accept cash. We came with another couple and they ordered separately. The food took a while to arrive, so we kept going up to the counter to check and the lady there said, "I'll bring your food to you." And she did for the other couple's food, so then we were waiting for our food. When it hadn't come after 30 minutes we went up to the counter and a different lady admonished us for not coming up to pick up our food at the counter -- the had been calling the order and we couldn't hear because we were sitting in the back and we thought the system was that they would bring your food. So that's part of the charm. Portion sizes are quite uneven. For example, I ordered a ham, egg, and spinach sandwich on wheat bread and my friend ordered a ham, egg and spinach sandwich on English muffin (same price) and I swear I got about twice as much filling as he did, presumably because wheat bread has more surface area. Check out the picture and decide for yourself. The salad was pretty good, but also pretty basic and I wasn't a huge fan of the deli meat and cheese on top.

We came here on a weekend afternoon and there was one staff member there. She was making the sandwiches, bagels, coffees, etc. She was definitely working a lot and had a lot to deal with taking orders, assembling sandwiches, and receiving payment. In my opinion, she seemed a bit overwhelmed, since she asked me to write my order down on a piece of paper. Anyways, she said that they mainly take cash but would take Venmo in an emergency. She also pointed me to a nearby atm that charged a fee, and so I just used Venmo. The everything bagel we took tasted more like bread and wasn't very special. The espresso we ordered also tasted a bit watered down, but it was alright. Overall, we might come here again for a sandwich or something but perhaps not a bagel or coffee.

This cafe is such a neighborhood gem - motherly vibes from the coffee shop owner, relaxing piano music, and amazing bites and drinks. More than enough room for seats to do work on your laptop or read. Would 11/10 come here again :)

Literally one of the best coffee shop experiences I've had in the city. The space is really unique and endearing, with paintings, books, plants, and even a piano. The owner even let me mess around with it despite me not knowing how to play properly. The garden is absolutely gorgeous. One of the best parts was the owner and staff working there. We had a wonderful conversation about classical music. The whole place feels like a passion project came to life, I'm really glad I found it. It's super charming and really accessible for working/studying because of the seating, free wi-fi, and various outlets. Food is bomb, coffee is pretty good. They accept cash and Venmo, but there's also an ATM in the store! This small boutique cafe is a gem in the area. The fresh veges coupled with a touch of own sauces it kind of gives a taste of genuine comfort meal. My favorite is a turkey special with bread toasted lightly. It literally melts in your mouth. Place filled with small paintings by local artists. A good place to stop by before after the visit to Palace of Fine Arts up on the hill.

This little cafe is so adorable! They have an outdoor seating area in the back that resembles tea gardens I've been to, plenty of indoor seating, and a piano/books available. The woman who served us was just lovely, she was so apologetic for working by herself on what seemed to be a busy day, but apologies weren't necessary. My boyfriend and I walked in behind a trio of ladies who had just ordered lunch and as we were finishing our orders three more people walked in behind us. Before we completed our order she let us know it may take her some time and asked if we wouldn't mind walking back to pick up our food as she was on her own and couldn't bring it to us. We told her not to worry and found ourselves a spot in the back to work while we lunched. Our sandwiches were delicious, and made perfectly. I got the garden house sub and my boyfriend a turkey sandwich, both with Thai Iced Tea's which were delicious. We had to write our orders down on an index card and she went over them in front of us to ensure we got exactly what we wanted. The wait was entirely reasonable and honestly so worth it for the food. This place is CASH ONLY, which she asked if we were okay with as we placed our orders, and had we not been prepared there is an ATM on the premises for your use.

I live in the neighborhood and LOVE their toasted sub sandwiches! We stop by with our 4 and 6 year old boys for a muffin after playing at the Lincoln Park Playground. The service is terrific and the ambience is cozy as can be!

I really wish this cafe was walking distance from my house. I would come so often to get some work done and just enjoy the ambiance! The toasted sandwiches are the perfect lunch. Great to take on a picnic to the park nearby. The pastries and tea available make for a lovely breakfast. I recommend the Korean herb tea. It is very soothing! I would definitely come back if I am in the area!

I went on a Thursday (today) and the shop closes at 5:30pm not 7:30pm. Cash only. Because it was my first time there she allowed Venmo. My rating is also because I ordered a roast beef sandwich and received a turkey sandwich. I really dislike turkey but it took long to receive a simple size small sandwich so I didn't say anything as the place was closing much sooner than posted hours here on yelp.

I love this place! It has a super cute garden with tables and eclectic interior and the family that runs it is super nice. It's always a treat when I stop over on this side of town. Also great for a vegetarian lunch.

Came here for lunch today for the first time ever. At first, I was a bit hesitant as I didn't feel like just getting another sandwich for lunch but I was desperately in need of coffee and this was the only place within walking distance. Upon entering, this is clearly a small mom n' pop outfit run by two, very kind Korean ladies. I ordered a double shot of macchiato because I desperately needed a pick me up, as well as a medium Salami to go. The sandwich was $8.95 for the medium size, and was toasted, soft, with the perfect level of crunch on the outside. The ingredients used were quiet generous and very delicious. Will definitely make this my regular stomping grounds for the rest of the week while I work nearby! Cash only so make sure you bring that moolah $

We came here after our hike at LandsEnd and honestly such a find! The food is good without being too heavy. The pastries are delicious and the owner was so sweet and kind. The atmosphere was the best part 100%. It was about 90% natural lighting and the vibe was eclectic but cute. They have an outside dining area but we enjoyed the music and the books they offer o read for free. Pinning the place for the next time we come to SF!

This is the cutest little cafe! The woman who helped us at the counter, I think she may have been the owner, was the sweetest lady. We got a couple sandwiches, and I got a Thai iced tea (it was very good I recommend). Throughout the little cafe it is very cute with little trinkets and such. In the back there's a garden patio, it the perfect place to eat lunch. The sandwiches were good, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere.

Don't let the generic-Chinese-restaurant-name fool you. This place is a memorable and adorable cafe that serves really good sandwiches. The lady who owns it clearly takes pride in her work and the sandwiches were tasty and fresh. She has a tight workspace but keeps a very good health grade and works at a good speed. Got the turkey sub and veggie sub and both were great. If you're in neighborhood, you should definitely consider grabbing a bite or a coffee. I know when COVID has been controlled, this would be a great place to sit around, have a cup of coffee, maybe do a little reading.

Friendly staff. Cool atmosphere. There's a piano that looks open to guests to use. You can also charge your phone here, if you trust public charging stations :) Wish there was a sign before you enter the store stating cash only -- but there is an ATM here that's gonna charge you at least $3, so might as well take out enough cash to make up for fee. By the time you've ordered food, you feel guilty for not having cash so you end up using the ATM anyway, even if you'd rather not.

The most amazing service! The woman who owns this place is the sweetest lady. This place gives you that small coffee shop vibes in big city feel that can't be found anywhere else. Good variety and options of drip coffees. Garden sub sandwich is so yummy! This was a delightful find after a brisk walk on the Pacific Coast Trail. Janette Kim, the owner was warm, welcoming and extremely accommodating in making my chai latte with almond milk and my husband's coffee exactly to our tastes and requirements. The best part was being able to sit out (masks off) in the sun on the lovely patio full of plants and trees. Great experience all-around.

Came here on a whim, and had such an incredible experience! The owner happened to be working at the time, and let us know that she planted every tree and plant in the garden 23 years ago. So sweet and beautiful. Quaint cafe that reminds me of what San Francisco used to be. Come for the environment, and stay for the croissant breakfast sandwich. Will come back next time I'm in town :)

I don't like shredded lettuce, But! This place has delicious bread and was an unexpected highlight of our trip. And the woman that served us was precious. She embarrassed my husband when she said that with my my mask on, I looked like his daughter, but right before my 40th birthday, it made my day (We're only ten years apart)
