My experience with hospitality:
Garfield’s wide selection of spirits, always bring me in. I was ecstatic to know I was in the area to be able to shop for my ingredients. I sought out to source the things I will need to create my marketing campaign hosted by Brown and Balanced; a Chicago community organization that celebrates and showcases Black bar & hospitality professionals.
When entering and inquiring about the Spirit, I butchered the name of the Brand and instead of helping me navigate or troubleshoot what I may have been looking for, the employee told me “oh I’ve never heard of that” and went back to whatever had his attention in his laptop. I calmly told him “no worries I can look it up” for him and when I found the correct name. He proceeds to point me to a shelf that is two times my height.
The other person eventually came over to help, but again both energies presented me with intellectual bullying as if I was in a space that I didn’t belong in, solely because Im mispronouncing a name. When funny enough, my rewards number was taken, and my name wasn’t even close to being pronounced right when they were confirming. But I digress.
I actually love the options and the accessibility of the spirits of Garfield Beverage Express, which will bring me back, but the lack of hospitality that I feel, when I walk in both locations the two most recent times, as if I am alien to the space, I hope is something that you can revisit and work on.
