Went to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for my birthday last night with family. My brother got an absolute kick out of the fact that you can have a beer while you watch your movie. I love the movies the Garland plays because it’s all my old favorites. Staff is always so friendly.

We always have a great time at Bon Bon. Jacob is an awesome bartender. He is kind and skilled. This is a great atmosphere for meeting friends and is noise balanced enough to easily listen to the music and still have conversations. Never a problem, always fun! It's truly a local vibe.

Google
I love the vintage feel of this theater and the pricing fits the vintage atmosphere! I love it even the bathrooms are awesome! This theater is special and offers lots of free movies and even a $5 movie club membership it’s the true gem of Spokane

Google
Gotta say taking the parking out is a deal breaker for me. Most of the old lot is an apartment building. The rest is paid. For 2 movies, $20. Sorry, but no. Wond go there. I'd rather pay for a real theater.

Google
This might be the best thing about the Garland District and it has been here over a hundred years. If you haven't gone to a movie here then you probably don't know the Garland District.

Seats are a bit uncomfortable for a big guy like me, but the movie The Wild Robot was perfect and very quiet.i would recommend it

Google
Love the history of the Garland. We saw the Elf interactive experience and it was fun and kids loved it! Learned I'm not a 'beyond dog' fan, great for non-meat eater. They have pretzels 😊

Google
Beautiful theater. Banging popcorn. Alcohol if that's your thing. Great snacks. Seats are decent and updated all around the physical theater. The picture quality is excellent. The staff is second to none. Go! Cheaper than chain theaters! A good mix of older, newer, and newish movies. Pretty regular you can catch a free flick sponsor by the likes of KSPS or Numerica and others. Go, go, go!!

Yelp
Great prices, great popcorn, great decor, great service. My only qualm is I find their movie choices a bit odd. Wish they would play some more mainstream movies.

Yelp
Nice old community theater anchoring the west-side of the Garland business district. They do a great job curating 2nd-run films, older fan-favorites, and special showings. Tickets are about $5 each (cheap!) Seating is comfortable and the theater is kept relatively clean, though the floor is so sticky I almost lost a shoe.

Yelp
This property is such an iconic spot in town, and it is well-maintained with a welcoming atmosphere for gatherings like this. From the front-of-house staff to the technical crew, everyone was friendly and accommodating. My experience at The Garland Theater was nothing short of amazing! I can confidently say that any gathering held here will be successful due to their commitment to providing excellent service and quality facilities. It truly is one of Garland's finest venues!

Yelp
If you can wait for the initial exitement to die down, you can probably see the movie you want at the Garland and it will be cheaper. Plus you get the experience of having a lot more choices to sit. The slope makes most seats here good. The decor is in the old classic movie theater style. The smell of decades of popcorn brings some nostalgia. Speaking of popcorn, you get to put your own butter on so you can have as much or as little as you want. Yay!! Since I am one of those people who doesn't have to see the movie the dayit debuts, I will probably bring my family back here again soon. Thanks for a great Saturday family outing Garland!

Yelp
I love this movie theater! Beautiful space with all the vintage charm, the best prices on food and tickets, and many options in the neighborhood for killing time before a movie! Quintessential Spokane experience. You can even join an unlimited movie club for $70!

Laura H.

Yelp
Garland always has the best prices for tickets to the movies. The theater is always clean, lines short and food is always great. It's one of the few theaters that offers beer. The service is always friendly and prompt. It's great to have a locally owned theater here in Spokane.

Yelp
Show Me the Money! But just a little bit. When the Garland Theater opened in 1945, it was the the place to be seen and the place to see films. The theater was very forward for the time, with wide aisles and a cup holder in each reclining seat. A novel idea was the snack bar. Today the Garland is an icon with all that old style. Its well perserved, staying true to the era. You not only get to see the show, you also get to experience movie theater history. Its retro cool. Here's what you can expect: *Historic Icon Movie Theater *$3.50 Admission *Second Run Films 3-4 A Day *Good Popcorn - Featuring the "Bottomless Bag" *Kids Free Summer Morning Movies *Free Parking *** Winter Wednesday $1 Movies Okay, you aren't going to see new releases or sneak previews. But if you can handle not seeing it opening weekend for at least twice as much, the Garland might be a place for you. You do get fairly current films and occasionally a cool classic or two. Cheap Thrills await you at the Garland Theater.

Yelp
Would give it lower. The new owner was sitting behind me and asked me to turn my phone off because it was distracting her no big deal so I pull my phone out to turn off she kicked my chair and went off and started yelling about how we are not welcome there ever again. Dude you need to calm down lady. I'm sorry I got a text on my silent phone and checked it. If you gave me a min to turn it off I would have. Your yelling was way more distracting then me looking at my phone. Next you will be getting my popcorn to your face.

Ava Jeanne G.

Yelp
Not wheelchair friendly. The whole theatre is quite nice, and it's always fun to watch movies here but they underwent a renovation which took away the entire handicap section to enjoy their movie. Before there was a handicap section in the back row (near the wall upon entering the theatre) but now there are none. This forces people who need wheel chairs to sit in the isle (not blocking means to be on a slope) or at the very fount, making hard to see the screen and much less enjoy the movie. I talked to the manager who told me it was because of the historic quality of the theatre and there is nothing that they can do. While this is realistic when it's about the aspects of the original building, this doesn't make sense with new 21st century sets they installed recently. There's a simple solution which is to take out flourish seats near the wall (where its flat) and have a handicap section there.

Yelp
Can't beat a movie theater that serves beer and wine and pizza. I really love this place and it has a very chill vibe. They're awesome with kiddos too and the ticket prices and food are super reasonable.

Yelp
Being born and raised in Spokane, this theatre holds a place in my heart. From going with my allowance to taking my child to random date nights when they are featuring The good stuff like Grease and The Breakfast Club, this theatre defies all the norm and that's my favorite part. It stays old schooooool. Cheap ticket pricing, huge theatre and the concession stand doesn't cost more than my phone bill. A locally owned theatre that keeps it traditional is something to be appreciated.
google avatar

Carrie A.

Yelp
Would have been my first suds and cinema but alas it was not to be. We stood in line about 20 minutes and then they put up a sign on the ticket booth saying SOLD OUT. Apparently enough people had already bought tickets so they didnt have any to sell to people in line. Soooo next year im going to be ready!

Yelp
I'm proud to call The Garland Theater home. It's the place where I do Rocky Horror every year when it's out. Not only is Rocky Horror hella fun every time I go there, they have great selections of old movies that they play during the summer as well as some of the newer movies at very cheap prices. If you're looking for an affordable movie going experience then The Garland Theater is right for you! The Bon, the bar that's in the theatre, is a great place to get smashed with friends before seeing a cult classic or "bad movie".

Yelp
I used to work the snack bar here years and years ago until I eventually blossomed into the glamorous life of becoming a manager. Within my first week of employment I nearly burnt down the place because I didn't know how to run "the popper". People literally had to vacate the theater and firetrucks came. They didn't fire me. I refused to refund a rich dude his $1.50 and instead told him, "nice shoulder pads". He called my boss. They didn't fire me. I used the wrong lens when playing Too Fast Too Furious resulting in the movie only showing Vin Diesel's torso and not one person complained. Best job I ever had. I wonder if my Employee of the Month sign is still on the wall. I haven't been here in some years, but back in the day The Garland Theater had absolutely the best popcorn in the world! The movies are cheap, they do the summer Friday night midnight movies and day time free movies. GOOD DEALS HERE, YOU GUYS. I'm just sad that I wasn't able to experience this place now that there's a bar built in to the building.

Yelp
Encore theater, wonderful customer service, freshly renovated, full dinner/lunch menu, and plenty of special events to keep you thrilled. Only $5.00 a person, half priced tickets on Wednesdays, and a $7.00 bottomless popcorn, check out all the show times only at GarlandTheater.com

Yelp
I'm hesitant to write a review...not because of a negative experience but because of how wonderful my experiences have been. I've seen 2 showings here so far, and plan to see many, many more! This is the CLEANEST budget theater I have ever attended! It is nearly immaculate! The showings are only $5 bucks and the concessions are very reasonable. Large popcorn $7.25 unlimited refills! They have an extensive menu, but have yet to try it out! The movies vary week to week, and they update the website accordingly. There is a cute dive bar connected, but I am not sure if it is part of the theater or its own entity. Come check out a show, but don't tell too many people about it! Only "con"- no popcorn salt and they will not provide a separate tray to split popcorn- the husband doesn't like butter (he's weird).

Yelp
Places like the Garland are hard to review. They're less establishments and businesses and more institutions and landmarks. But it's comforting to know that things like this can last beyond decades. Originally, the Garland was a $1 theater, which would be great nowadays, but, as prices change, they've bucked the trend, as shows are only $5, which is still great for second wave movies and their classic and theme nights. The theater is never less than half full, which can be a good or bad thing, depending on how you like your theaters. The seats are roomier than the majority of theaters in the area. Their concessions are mostly standard theater fare, but they have a small menu of alternative offerings to include a lot of hot dogs. My wife swears that the popcorn is better than most other theaters we've been to, but I'm not a popcorn expert. The family and inlaws have seen a lot of movies here. While consulting her for the review, the conversation turned to memories of walking to the theater for $1 movies with her family. Which I think has always been a selling point of the Garland. A building packed with history in a unique part of Spokane.

Yelp
This review is entirely for the woman behind the recording for the number (509) 327-1050 as of 9/30/2020. She speaks unbelievably fast and some of her words run together making it even harder to understand what is being said. I was calling wanting to book the theater for a company party and she waits until the end of her long message to state they don't take messages at that number and then there's a recording to leave a message, rather confusing, unprofessional and frustrating! If you're the owner or manager, you should be embarrassed by your business voicemail!

Yelp
This place is awesome. Their website says they're in the process of restoring it. I can't wait to see it when it's completed. If I owned this place I would show classic great films a lot and have amazing food and beer for people to eat during the movies. Make it a total hang out/destination spot. It also looks like there is a stage in the theater. They should be doing live performances. Anyways, this theater has tons of style. I'm glad I went, just for the architecture. It reminds me of the movie theaters in Westwood.

Yelp
My wife and my 25th anniversary of being together was on June 1st of this year and I wanted to do something special for her. I contacted the theatre by email inquiring about the possibility of renting the facility for my wife and myself and playing the movie from our first date. The manager Tana contacted me and we worked out the date I needed and the price. Movie day came and everything was perfect. The marquee out front had happy anniversary to the two of us and the staff was very professional and helpful. Lethal weapon 3 was played for us and we didn't even have to get up for more popcorn as staff were there to take care of it for us. I cannot put in words how perfect and professional everyone was and would HIGHLY recommend to anyone wanting a special event to consider using this venue. Great staff, great experience!

Yelp
My wife and I went to see the "Hunger Games" last week. We enjoy going back in time when going to The Garland. We both used to work here years ago. The place seems to be in great shape. The popcorn is still the best in town, however tasted a bit old that night. Friendly crew working, but they were way under staffed, especially when the young lady behind the snack bar had to leave to start the film projector. As for presentation I am pretty tough to please, having specialized in this for most of my life. The film was very scratched, out of focus and kept bouncing on screen. When I brought this to an attendants attention and they said they had just fixed it. Oh well, we still had a good time.

Yelp
My family of 5 and I have lived in the area for twenty years. We have enjoyed this theater multitudes of times. Both when we didn't want to pay the exorbitant prices for a new release and when we missed the new releases. Being able to still see it on the big screen. The service we have appreciated, though not necessarily taken advantage of; are the FREE or reduced cost movies every morning the weeks school are out. Such as Christmas and Spring Break. Now they continue to upgrade; seats, food service etc. Really appreciate their commitment to local community in NOT being greedy but affordable! Yes prices rise with the cost of living but in order to stay afloat, give people jobs etc this business does amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
Finally had a chance to see a movie here and loved the experience. Service at the counter is fast and friendly, the theater has seating for everyone and then some. My only complaint is that it is cold so bundle up if you're going and don't forget 2.50 Wednesdays. Grab a friend and a glass of wine and enjoy a movie.
google avatar

Narnia P.

Yelp
This is an inexpensive second run theater. The sound and seats are not as good as what you get at a first run theater, like AMC. They also do Rocky Horror every now and then, which is good fun.
google avatar

Courtney J.

Yelp
There isn't a better place to watch a movie. You can order amazing food and take your drinks in. The theater is family friendly with booster seats for kids, friendly and helpful staff and an all around rocking screen and sound system. Prices are reasonable and the popcorn (add butter because why not?) is fresh and wonderful.
google avatar

Patrick L.

Yelp
Way too fucking crowded every single time i go. Seriously, there was a giant mob outside for a miyazaki movie! Who watches japanese anime in spokane? Not that many people. People come to the garland just for the cheap drinks and popcorn, which is fine. But its frustrating, and totally not worth it, to have to show up an hour early just to get tickets. And don't even try getting in by buying a drink at the bon bon. You can read my review if you like, but suffice to say, they will never serve you, and you will miss the film. Open another location already, you got the business for it.
google avatar

Stephanie E.

Yelp
The Garland is great. Movies are only $3.50 currently, and all showings are a buck on Wednesdays. I've been going to the Garland since 1989. There used to be a tall, old guy that was like an emcee of sorts, and would welcome you all - "live." That was odd, but fun. I used to go to the midnite showings, but last time I hit up the Rocky Horror Show, some idiots were throwing actual rocks at people, including me. So I am done with that crowd. The upper chairs are firm, and the lower chairs are way-back leaning style. The sound and screen always work fine, and the retro styling is fun. Check it out! Support a local joint.
google avatar

Yelp
Always a pleasant inexpensive treat for me and my kids to enjoy a few times a month, I really would love to go to Rocky Horror:)

Yelp
I would like to take a few minutes of your time to let you know of the lack of professionalism I experienced last night at The Garland Theater in Spokane. I am an individual experienced in customer service, I have a family, and a life. I am a regular customer of the Garland, I attend most of the midnight movies and have begun a tradition with my teenage son attending the midnight showings of Rocky Horror Picture Show. NEVER AGAIN. On Saturday night 6/6/15, I was told I had to wait in line and could not buy tickets in the hour before the show. So, we waited. It was about ten minutes after 12, when I was finally able to purchase tickets, however they were unable to accept debit/credit cards, and enter the theater. There was still a line waiting to get in behind me, and I can only imagine how many were turned away. Once inside, the theater was already full and they were still letting people in. We were unable to find 3 seats together, so we decided to join the lineup of people standing along the back divider wall. We were chased off and told to go find seats, but there was only a handful of random singles. We spent a solid 15 minutes asking to sit where seats were vacant, and people were "holding" them for unseen guests, so we returned to the wall along with many others lined up there. The "owner" approached us again, and said "do I have to go with you?" She informed us that we could not sit together and that they had not oversold the seats. At this point there was still at least 50 people looking for somewhere to sit, all having no luck. I told her this was ridiculous and unprofessional to her customers, that I wanted to speak with the manager. She told me to go the box office and get my money back and leave. I asked to speak with the manager again, and she proceeded to yell at me, I am the manager... I'm the owner. To the point that when she spoke/yelled her spit was on my face. It took another 5 or so minutes to get our money back, and finally walk out the doors. Once in the parking lot we saw/spoke with several other groups of people that had encountered a similar situation. I live in Post Falls, about 40 minutes away, so I also lost the hour wait in line as well as driving time both ways and did not get to see the show. I used to love the experience of going to the Garland and have been a long time supporter. I will find someone who wants our business, whether it be a family movie or a fun midnight showing. I will never again recommend any movie at the Garland. I don't expect my customers to put up with this level of incompetence nor will I put up with it from another business. The Garland Theater, you have lost the respect and business of a regular attending family, and a years long tradition has been ruined. Congratulations, I hope your anniversary celebration was wonderful.

Yelp
I have loved going here since I was a kid great memories and lots of fun. Will go here over the regular theaters everytime.

Yelp
Love this theater. Good popcorn. Nice to take family on a budget. Good movies and very nice staff.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
I love the old school theaters. I have visited many such places accross the country, It is a big part of Americana. The Garland Theater is well maintained, the staff are friendly and the concession stand items are not ridiculously over priced as in the case of our new and modern theaters. In other words, I was never disappointed in any of my visits to the Garland Theater.
google avatar

Jim M.

Yelp
I love the Garland Theater. It's half the price or less of the mall theaters, retro but very well maintained, it's huge so there's always uncompromised seating available and they don't have the wretched all-reserved-seats that keep me permanently out of the Regal Northtown and every other theater that does that to their customers. Plus the Garland has good food (love the pulled pork) and a full cocktail lounge attached that's accessible through the lobby. You can take beer and wine only into the theater, not cocktails. And there's a vast free parking lot.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Classic. This is the word to describe this place. My friend brought me here and definitely feel like I took a step back in time. Where movies were only $0.25 and the popcorn was $0.50... ok that was a bit dramatic because I am only 23 and it was never that cheap growing up (I'm calling you old people out!). But it is the cheapest place to watch a movie at $4. Keep in mind that this isn't a place for new movies, it's movies after they have been played at the AMC theaters. It is CASH ONLY!
google avatar

Taylor W.

Yelp
As far as theaters go this one is my favorite! My grandfather was a manager here in the late 60's and 70's,so I love coming here for the nostalgia. The seats are a little uncomfortable but, it's a "vintage" theater with a great atmosphere,so I can deal with it. The concession stand is really good! The popcorn is great but I LOVE that they have a small menu of other items as well. The hot dogs are delicious! Encore showings of the movies are great! All in all, if you want a cheaper night out and to enjoy a piece of Spokane, this is the place for you!
google avatar

Rachel O.

Yelp
I will always love this place. Cheap movies, good snacks that are cheaper too, and just a good atmosphere. Lots of seating, plays popular shows. In the summers, they show old cult classics at midnight, like rocky horror and the goonies.
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
We love it here great food and affordable moves. The BBQ sandwich is one of the best. Love when they show the NFL games. I wish they would show all the Monday night games.
google avatar

William C.

Yelp
What's not to like? Movies you can take everyone to without breaking the bank. Cheap tasty popcorn and snacks, comfy seats, midnight movies chosen by someone who obviously knows and likes movies, discount movie days, free summer movies, good local atmosphere, all in an old style theater. A Spokane mainstay.
google avatar

Kathleen M.

Yelp
Great independant 2nd run theater, $4.50 for all shows, $1 on Wednesday. They also frequently run midnight movies, Retro Tuesdays (for $1) and free kids movies during some of the summer time. They are in the middle of a renovation, they just finished the concession stand, and are about to replace the old seats! There are few installed already, and they look amazing!

Dena A.

Yelp
They were sceduled to open at 11:30. The manager sat and stared at us for 5 mins while we were shivering in the snow, then opened at 11:35. Power happy punk kid with a set of keys. I'll never come back.
google avatar

Aleysha B.

Yelp
This is a place to take your kids or just a friends night out...do not expect to be comfortable in the theatre, seats are super close together and old as hell. Once again you really do get what you pay for!!!
google avatar

Cayla C.

Yelp
Nice theater size and good snack bar. Bon bon is right next door if you want adult beverages. The seats = super uncomfy, especially the back part. Thursday night movies were $4.50, can't really beat that! Film quality was pretty good and started on time.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
This is an old theater located in Spokane's wonderful Garland district. The staff is friendly and accomodating, and the matinees are always great. This theater supports the idea of having a date night with a loved one, or a fun treat for the whole family. The new renovations updated the theater without ruining the integrity of its art deco era styling. Plus, its always affordable.

inter n.

Yelp
We...the family and me, love the Garland. What's not to like? The price had jumped from the time I cam to live in SPokane from $1.00 to $3.50 but what the heck, right? In the summer it is downright cool and in the winter it is nice and cozy. No glitz and glamor with the price to match like theatre chains. We really doooo love this place. I do not know who owns or runs the place but I am grateful it is still here after all thses years of popcorn and fun. Where else on earth...or at least in Spokane can one see old movies on the big screen or wait awhile and still see newer movies at this price and get out of the house?

Rao X.

Yelp
Old, cheap and fairly big. Just how I like my women.

Julie B.

Yelp
I'm sad to say that I only got to go to Garland Theater once, but if I lived closer it would be a home away from home. It's that awesome! Beautiful old theater with quite an interesting history. Five dollar movies...you can't beat that! And any theater with real food is a plus in my book. We got the Porky's Revenge and it was just amazing! Hands down, the best pulled pork sandwich I have ever had. I would go back just for the sandwich. Another plus would be Bon Bon, the attached bar (although we didn't partake, unfortunately). The girl who helped us at the snack counter was also very friendly. If I'm ever in Spokane for any length of time again, "I'll be back." ;)

Yelp
love the new seats and the sound system is great.. best movie deal around. classic old school large movie theater.

Rox K.

Yelp
I loved coming here! When I get back to Spokane, one of the first places I am going to.

Breanna J.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place!! Such a great value that my boyfriend and I come almost once a week it seems. And the Bon Bon Room being connected and allowing you to take beverages into the movie is great as well! Service is great, movies are current or beloved classics, and it is much less expensive than the big cinnemas! I recommend this place whenever I get the chance. One of my favorite places in Spokane.
