Four Chicago-Area Restaurant Shutters to Know - Eater Chicago

"Garlic and Chili closed earlier this month after plans to demolish the Marshall Hotel began at 1232 N. LaSale Drive where it resided for more than a decade on the hotel’s ground floor. However, the Thai restaurant announced it’s moving to a new space at 1512 N. LaSalle Drive inside the renovated Carling Hotel. The new Garlic and Chili should open on February 2." - Daniel Gerzina

The attached hotel has character to the point of sketchy; the Thai restaurant however, is great. It maybe small, but its clean, quick and delicious. Great for takeout and delivery too. The resturant is BYOB which keeps things cheap. Overall this place is a good value for the area. Service is usually really good too (sometimes they can get busy).

I have lived in Chicago for 8 years. I have been consistently underwhelmed with the Thai food in this city... with the exception of Garlic and Chili Thai. I have found that this restaurant has the best tasting thai in the city... even better than the Silver Spoon Thai restaurant which is next to the Thai Consulate (where you would expect great food - Silver Spoon = 2nd best). I really enjoy the curries, red, green etc. If you like it spicy, this is the only restaurant where I have actually had spicy thai food when I asked for it. The ingredients are fresh and the price is cheap. This place is awesome!

If you love SPICY food, this is the place for you. They don't mess around with the hotness of their foods. They even have their own caliper with a wall of fame to back it up! My friend & I have been trying to get on their wall but we couldn't even stand their regular spicy menu and in order to get on their wall, you have order & consume (by yourself) a dish ordered at least FIVE EXTRA HOT. We only ordered the regular spicy and we were already suffering. And surprisingly, even ordered spicy, their dishes were still pretty good and had flavor (besides hot). The papaya salad though was kind of a let-down, too much carrots and not enough papaya. Anyhow, kudos to those who got on the wall of fame, seriously..your stomach must have given you trouble for a whole week after that.

fantastic pad thai & red curry, so solid. decor, i mean it looks like a whole in the wall, but that's what's kept this gem hidden so well. As a Thai-Food-O-Phile, highly recommend.

This is a good take out place for those who are craving pretty good Thai food. I like the pad see ew with beef. The pad thai is also very good. They give you alot of food for what you pay.

Great hole in the wall Thai place! Best Pad Thai in the city. Very reasonably priced. Fast service. Great for delivery!

Food is good but knocking off stars for the $10 minimum to use Credit Card policy. I never carry cash on me and I think that request is ridiculous.
