Garrett Popcorn Shops

We decided to stop by Garrett shop on yesterday and what a treat! We hadn't had this popcorn in a while and it definitely pleased the taste buds. The staff we encountered was pleasant as well. Garrett popcorn is still #1 from the time that I was a little girl until now my children and grandchildren eat it too. Keep it coming!!

Man oh man!! They need to just shut this location down or hire new staff. Immediately when I walked in I asked if they had fresh popcorn, not to mention the cop sitting in the corner which was kind of alarming. Why do you need a cop in a popcorn shop? Right away when I entered the staff was just hanging out. Some were looking at their phones. One person was sitting on the floor by a fan. I had asked if they had fresh popcorn and everyone looked at me like I was crazy or I was inconveniencing them. The young lady said no. This is what we got. Oh well, excuse me, it's only 1:00 in the afternoon. I would think you would want to pop some fresh popcorn by now. I will never go to this location again. I will continue to go to the one in downtown Chicago.

This establishment has the best freshly popcorn! The staff this night upon closing was so beautiful and generous to my family. We were leaving town on Sunday morning before they opened, and it was not intentional to go that late, but I wanted to share my lifelong experience with Garrett Popcorn with my family and the entire staff even while closing their shop was amazing! Thank you so much for being so professional, although we slowed you down.

Always good as usual! The spicy cheese popcorn was fire, very good for people who appreciate a kick in flavor. This location has no line and parking. A great pit stop if you’re driving east out of Chicago.

Quick, fast, and courteous. The ladies took care of us and our order, being efficient and pleasant all the while. No need to go all the way Downtown: you can get authentic Garrett's Popcorn "raht cheer!

I have not had Garrett popcorn in years. I remember they were downtown on just about every street corner. My mom grabbed me a bag and I was excited, however no nostalgia for me, the cheese popcorn was just too salty, the caramel was pretty good. Glad they are still going strong 💪🏾

Visited Garrett Popcorn yesterday 8/7. Purchased 2 large cheese & cashew caramel popcorn. I didn’t did into it yesterday because I was tired & my husband got home pretty late. Fast forward to today. We’re both home around the same time from work & decided to dig in, so disappointed because this popcorn is so stale. I’m so mad . Waste of $22 😞…. Garrett please do better. I really want my money back frfr. Bag still extra full. Couldn’t even eat it 🤬

Extreme incompetence. I ordered a mix caramel & cheese. I SPECIFICALLY told the young lady just a lil cheese. It was basically ALL cheese. I return after tossing the bag because I had eaten out of it. I repeated the order after telling them what had just occurred. I received all Carmel not 1 bit of cheese. Smh

Second time here while working in Chicagoland. Of course Garrett's has the best popcorn this side of heaven. I'll always recommend them for the popcorn lovers. My favorite is the cashew caramel crisp. Oooooh wee, these are very addictive and require some serious self-control. Order and enjoy!!

Ordered a medium cheese and Carmel and the Carmel had the sharpest burnt taste you could imagine. I was so mad because I haven't had garrets in a while and this just ruined my whole experience. Definitely will not be going back to this location. And probably won't go to garrets for awhile. I'll stick to kernels all the way in Naperville for now.

Garretts popcorn speck and $1.75 from 1 PM to 3 PM Monday through Friday this week. This is the line for the popcorn with people waiting at the door. The line is just as long in our vehicles.

Location is not that great; security is by the entrance. The Garrett mix and almond crisp are my favorites.

Quality on 87th is not the same as downtown. The taste is not that fresh. What a shame. When they first opened, it was fresh and good. Not now. Do better please.

Busy location and they even have a drive- thru. Ordered lots of popcorn plus I got a lil something for my neighbors. First time trying the caramel with cashews mixed with cheese. It was so good. They have a lot of beautiful classic and holiday tins to choose from. The ladies were so nice and helpful which added to an overall nice experience.

Nothing like good ole Garrett's Popcorn!! Too bad we don't have em locally, would be a huge hit!!

Everytime I've gone to Garrett's I've had a very pleasant experience. This is a solid location as there is very rarely a line. The employees are super efficient and helpful. I normally get the Garrett's mix and call it a day. Parking is always super open as well. This is a leas busy location as it's more so on the outskirts. Will I be back here? Duh?

The popcorn is delicious per usual but the staff's attitudes are horrible at this location both times I've been to this location. I briefly took my mask off on one side to adjust it and the lady rudely told me to put my mask back on. Now this wouldn't have bothered me had she not yelled it AND if her co-workers were following the same rule. One worker's mask was under his nose the entire time and another worker walked in maskless. I really wanted to say something but this is Chicago and I need to make it back to Dallas alive, lol.

I love Garrett's popcorn. I drive from the Southwest Suburbs to order for my family and me. What a HUGE disappointment today. I usually order all nuts in small, large, and jumbo. The cashier told me there was no almond popcorn it's available for the weekend only--weird, and added recently. So now I am paying the same price as if I have all nuts --it's not fair the prices should be adjusted. Here is another problem. The employees who filled my order didn't give me what I paid for. My bags were pretty skimpy. I ordered over $100 worth of popcorn. I'm not sure how or what the process is for making the popcorn with the nuts--in comparison to my previous visits am sure I was cheated, I don't know the reason why but this is my last time visiting this particular location. I'm popping mad about my Garrett's run today.

I am so happy I don't have to go downtown to get the same great flavor of popcorn anymore. They have parking and a drive-thru you can't ask for anything better.

This popcorn is so good and addictive. I only stopped here because I was traveling to another state and my family wanted me to bring them some Garrett's popcorn. I've had it before but after it had been days old. It is delicious, fresh. People love this pop corn because it was about 25 people in line ahead of me. The great thing is the line moved pretty fast. The staff is nice. I will definitely come back FYI- they offer a military discount which is about 15 percent off.

A chicago staple! Delicous unmatched popcorn! We have seen imitators and many other brands and companies attempt to duplicate the Chicago mix of cheese and carmel but no one else can quite hit the mark! I have brought plenty of family and friends from out of town to Garrett's and they all frequently place orders online. The lines are usually long however it is worth the wait. If you are traveling and taking popcorn home, put it in a ziplock bag to keep it fresh. Love this Chicago staple!!!

This is one of my favorite past time treat worthy of every calorie. The location is just off expressway. The store is clean and customer-friendly. While following the social districting guidelines, the staff is fully masked, gloved, and only a few customers are allowed in the store at a time.

I was driving by this south side location and decided to make a u-turn. Their drive thru is open and was not that crowded. I waited in line about 10 minutes. Placed my order with a nice, friendly lady named Dyneisha. I ordered the medium mix which is cheese & caramel popcorn. It was $6.35 plus .65 cent in tax. Most people probably could wait til they get home....hmmmmm not me. I started right away after cleaning hands with hand sanitizer. Good tasting popcorn, the one I get downtown is usually warm so this may not be freshly popped so that costed them a star. Otherwise it satisfied my craving during this stay-at-home order.

If you want stale popcorn, this is the location for you. In all of my years of buying Garrett Popcorn, which I've always bought downtown, my first time patronizing this location and the popcorn is stale. I bought a bag for my friend, tasted a couple of kernels for freshness once I made it home and they're chewy. Stale chewy. Less than 6 hours of purchasing. I want my money back, but I'm not bothering going back to Chatham over stale popcorn. Now I know though..

I love my Garretts, but the last four visits to this location have been disappointing to say the least. The popcorn is not fresh, hard and tastes like it's 1 to 2 days old every time. For what it's worth though the staff is courteous and friendly with good customer service.

Everything has changed! Yet the prices still rise. Carmel was loaded with pure sugar and very hard. The Cheese had no real cheesy flavor, just oily and bland.

WORLD FAMOUS!! What more can I say? The Chicago Mix (cheese and carmel corn) truly lives up to its name. The combination of the salty cheese and sweet caramel popcorn is like a big hug! Oh, so COMFORTING! You can watch the process of the carmel corn after it's made. The lines are usually out the door at all the locations I've visited but they moved pretty fast, besides, it's definitely worth the wait!! I always buy a small carmel, small cheese and combine the two in a Ziploc for the PERFECT even blend. This is enough to eat on the my way home and have some two days later. Was able to purchase a miniature can with my purchase for $5 [normally $15) as a Black Friday special. Although parking is a zoo, I'm happy this location is here, saves me from the drive and headache of driving downtown Chicago or Ohara from Gary, Indiana

You can purchase bags in Jewel-Osco food stores. The authentic at the stores is the fresh best. The prices are reasonable and service great

The person getting the order is too slow she didnt get my right order combination when i get home to California 2 buckets was not given the right order so make sure to watch to watch them travelled thousand miles to bring it home

The wait time was moderate as this location is popular for tourists. If it's your first visit let them know so the associates can quickly walk you through the options and mixes. Samples of new or classic mixes are always available; don't be afraid to ask to try a sample of the available options. We ordered several bags of the classic Caramel and Cheese mix; Garret's is a must if you enjoy popcorn

Stopped in to get a bunch to send to a friend who moved out of state. I didn't realize that I was an hour early. They were slammed, but the sweet women who worked there got it done for me anyway. Awesome staff and amazing popcorn!

This past Sunday I was in Chicago and stopped by your store on 87th street; off of Cottage Grove. I ordered a large cheese, large mix and small caramel with pecans.   The product was horrible! The cheese corn was not edible as I chewed it, it was obviously stale as it stuck to my teeth like "crown". I ordered the carmel pecan for my wife, and although it was a small bag ... only 1 pecan?  Really? I spent almost $40.00 driving through your store to purchase my order on Sunday and feel completely ripped off. Yeah for drive through service and the most excellent popcorn anywhere. Service was fast and efficient and service representative at the window was patient and helpful. Definitely more convenient than driving into downtown Chicago to buy. Need more shops like this in northern Indiana and elsewhere.

My boyfriend took me to Chicago this past weekend for my birthday. This was my first time in the Chi, so naturally, I wanted to try all its staples. Being from St. Louis, we always heard about the famous Garrett popcorn. I always thought, "It's just popcorn!" Well, I can honestly say I understand--It was really good. My bf bought two bags of the caramel/cheddar mix. I believe it's known as the Chicago style. I love a sweet and savory blend, so this medley was perfect. The cheddar was incredible; you can tell its REAL cheese. The caramel was sweet, but not overly done. They have several Garrett stores around Chicago, so don't feel you'll be designated to just one. The portions come in nice sizes, so know that it's perfect for sharing or simply saving for later. My bag lasted two days, considering I shared it with my mom. My boyfriend paid $10 per bag. If you find yourself in the Chicago area, I recommend you swing by Garrett, even if it's to say you were there.

I am very disappointed. Although the staff is super friendly and efficient, today was the second time in a year this location has let me down and embarrassed me. Whenever I'm in Chicago for work, I brag to my industry friends in LA about how I'm going to bring them back the best popcorn they've ever tasted. Unfortunately, today was the second time I received five large bags of ridiculously stale and chewy popcorn. That's unacceptable.

This is my 2nd visit and yes a very enjoyable experience mixing popcorn flavors of your choice is always fun and by me being from Memphis if course I got one bag to eat and one to take home and enjoy yummy

Since I live in NC and these guys are in PA, I called and ordered the caramel popcorn. Came fast, and freshest popcorn I've ever had. Not like some of the cheap popcorn, most places sell, here they use only quality and fresh ingredients and I believe 100% they make batches to order or their top sellers, cheddar cheese, caramel mixes of flavors get thrown out quickly and fresh is the key word I'll be a customer for life. Also it's sealed in a tin, which keeps it fresh for days

I have went here 2 times buying pecan popcorn and cheeses & Carmel I'm very disappointed it was stale bout times I'm so hurt I drive from south west to get this and horrible both times that's not right I spent a lot of money

Me and my Relative actually went to this Garrett's yesterday The customer service experience was awful one of the worst I've experienced out of my 40 years. I had just purchased the same popcorn yesterday at a location in the Chicago downtown area and the customer service was excellent. The taste of the popcorn was also different. Downtown Location had the perfect amount of seasoning. The 87th St. location popcorn was salty and the caramel taste burnt

Always very good.. I was in Chicago for a funeral and I stopped here to take home the Garrett house popcorn and it was worth the wait and drive.

If you like popcorn, you will LOVE Garrett Popcorn Shop. It's all fantastic - the Garrett Mix (aka Chicago Mix) - is superb, and any of the Caramel Crisp nutty mixes will melt in your mouth. This location was closest and what appeared to be the easiest to get to on my most recent weekend trip down to Chicagoland. I just now read Edward W's review that states if you are not from the area visit a Shop in one of the more touristy neighborhoods. I cannot agree more. While this location was a straight shot east on 87th Street, we went through some questionable spots...... I visited this location on an early Sunday afternoon and the line was out the door. There was a police officer on duty letting people in as others left. They were really jamming in there; hip hop and rap music was blaring over the speakers. Which was fine, it was just different than the 2 other Garrett locations I've been to. Customer service was meh. I did feel bad for the employees, they seemed rather robotic. Popcorn = 10 stars!!!!!!!!! I cannot recommend enough! Customer service = 2 stars Location (for a traveler on a weekend adventure) = 2.5 stars

WORTH. THE. DRIVE. Garrett's popcorn is always great no matter the time of year. The sweet, salty complex always saves the day for me. It's way too hard to put the bag down, so if you don't trust yourself I recommend getting the small bag and going back to purchase more if you can handle it.

They sold stale popcorn. The quality of the popcorn is not same as downtown location. Unfortunately, I did not discover it until I had driven away.

Store was very clean. Staff were very nice and helpful. Easy to find, and fast service. Popcorn was fresh and delicious. I would probably try to find a different location that would be closer to my hotel next time.

Ok, so everyone knows about the world famous Garrett's Popcorn. BUT, did you know there is a location right on your way out of the city, heading back to Indiana?! After many failed attempts at parking downtown to grab an order for my entire family, I've learned that it's best for my mental health to avoid those locations especially on the weekends! So I looked for alternatives and stumbled upon this location. It's about a 3 minute drive from I-94 and GPS will direct you right back to the toll road to head back to Indiana. This location always has a steady crowd, but you never have to wait outside in the elements like you do downtown. Nothing is quite as humbling as standing outside in the rain for a bag of popcorn. The staff at this location has always been very friendly, they always offer samples of whatever flavor is featured, and they even gave me suggestions for a place down the street to grab food. I don't think I will ever go to a downtown location again.

This is the Famous Garrett's Popcorn that started in Chicago over 50 years ago. This location is on Cottage Grove ave(@87th street) on the city's south side. I prefer this location due to not having to find/pay for parking downtown. The only drawback is that the parking lot is small and you may have to street park in order to place your order. Other than that the popcorn is freshly made and taste AWESOME as all of the other locations. The line varies, but moves quickly because most patrons know exactly what they want to order. Flavors range from: Classic Butter, Cheese ,Caramel, Almond Caramel, Pecan Caramel, Macadamia Caramel, Cashew Crisp and mixtures of two flavors. Garrett's is VERY addictive!! Be prepared to spend minimal 4.50 for a small bag to over $10.00 for a large bag. Garrett's has online ordering (Tin canister size) as well, from 1 gallon all the way to 6.5 gallon size! This is the only South Chicago location. Come for a visit!

I would like to start by saying the customer service at this location was phenomenal. They were extremely nice and friendly. They put together my order quickly within timely manner. So therefore that's why I gave them one star. Sadly to say this business is not known for customer service but Its All ABOUT THE POPCORN! So I purchase $164.41 of the mix popcorn. All different sizes and containers. I purchased them as gifts to bring back to Atlanta for family and friends. Yet all the cheddar popcorn that I gave out to everyone that was part of the mix batch is stale. I'm so disappointed. The reason how I know the cheddar popcorn is stale, Is because the item I already gave out. Which are (two bags and two containers). I posted two pictures below of the items that I still have.

Ok, ok, Chicagoans were right!!! Despite what seemed like an over amount of hype for popcorn this stuff is DELICIOUS!!! It's also much less expensive if you purchase it from them at one of their several Chicago locations vs a retail place like airport. It definitely adds to the Chicago experience and is worth it!

I visited the "Chatham" location first time (11/15/15). I ordered a quart of "Chicago Mix" as a gift & a small "Chicago Mix" for Me. The popcorn is fresh & delicious. The service was prompt & courteous.

Does this aptly describe how I feel for Garrett's on the Southside? I love IT, I love them, and everyone here is so engaging with the customers, and they love the line wonderfully!

Garretts popcorn is a Chicago Staple. If you've never had gourmet popcorn you need to try Garrett's. The popcorn is perfection and it also pretty affordable for the quality you get. I've tried other popcorn shops and Garretts is the true winner for me. Even though their locations are spread out throughout the city, sometimes the drive is worth it for the sweet and savory mix of Caramel and Cheese popcorn. I like to get the "Chicago Mix" aka as the Garrett's Mix. I usually ask for more Caramel than cheese. The customer service is usally great, I've honestly never had a bad experience at Garrett's the only con I can think of is the long lines but that's what happens when you have something people can't get enough of. I wish they would open more locations in the suburban areas but other than that Garrett's is one of Chicago's best and if you visit the city, you MUST try it out! You can thank me later.

Sooooooooo, I've been eating Garrett's practically my entire life. As a child, whenever we would drive into the city (which was often....at minimum weekly) my parents would take us downtown for Garrett's. GARRETT's the best caramel cheese mix EVER!!! Well, I've since moved out of state and decided to try this new 87th St location while in town (it was convenient). Now, Antonio (the young man who rang me up was very polite and professional); however, sister-girl #1 and sister-girl #2 were yapping it up with each other as they were preparing orders. Neither one of them gave me eye-contact our said "Hello". Then I get home only to eat mediocre tasting Chicago mix. What happened to the world famous Garrett's that I craved so badly that I would order a tin online? Does anyone know? Come on Garrett's, we are better than this! I've been defending you against Kernel's Gourmet Popcorn in Naperville....for what? This? I'm going to Kernel's or maybe even Popper-Razzi in Hazel Crest next time I'm in town. Please step it up 87th St Garrett's I do not want to see you fail. The southside needs you!

I have worked in downtown Chicago most of my life, so I've been to my fair share of Garrett's. However, the location in Chatham is my favorite by far. Most downtown locations get thousands of visitors a day, so they focus on volume. The Chatham location focuses on customer service. They greet you as soon as you walk in the door. Even if the place is packed, they get you in and out as quickly as possible. And, they pop the popcorn on site, so the popcorn is always fresh. I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience here. I always leave knowing that I will be back to this location. Try this one out for that cheesy caramel goodness. You won't regret it.

Went to this location after waiting in line to pick up an online order for 30-40 min. Was visiting from Colorado. Upon coming to the window trying to follow the online procedures it was apparent the store was clueless or at least the young lady at the window. She was very rude and unpleasant. After getting the popcorn home it was so unfortunate that the popcorn had so many huge clumps of the caramel clumped together unable to mix with the cheddar. I was so disappointed!

On a busy holiday weekend trip to Chicago, I couldn't understand why lines for every Garrett Popcorn Shop overflowed out the door and onto the streets....now I do. At the request of my cousin, I was asked to bring back just one thing from Chicago for him-- Garrett Popcorn. I ordered two large bags, one Chicago Mix, the other a almond/cashew/pecan Caramel Crisp mix. My commitment to ensure the adequate transport of this popcorn back to Atlanta included bringing it on a separate carry-on (yes, just the two bags of popcorn) and being pulled over and inspected by TSA. Let me tell you, it was soooo worth it! I didn't enjoy the caramel glazed as much as the Chicago Mix, but I would absolutely be ecstatic to have one again! Or both! Or either!

You know this popcorn has to be good if you go pick up some prior to visiting your momma when you come to town. If my schedule doesn't support it, I remind my fam of how much they love me and insist that they send me Garrett's popcorn. This popcorn is pretty popular and you can expect a line out the door some days. It's very much worth the wait. The parking lot is about average and getting out the lot can be a challenge due to inconsiderate drivers who won't let you merge as you exit the lot. They offer a military discount and can ship almost anywhere. I've got friends in San Diego ordering online after I introduced them to this goodness. You have a few choices; cheese, caramel, mixed and even options such as pecan and cashew caramel popcorn. They have traditional plain popped but if you gonna wait in line you better get what you want. My suggestion is to make a sampler out of the smaller sizes if you want to try more than one item. If you've been here before, you know the drill; when it's your turn you better sound off and don't be holding up the line. Customer service has been good here and I appreciate the staff for keeping a cool head when some customers are being difficult. Cash and credit accepted for your purchases.
