Try the Roasted Pumpkin Cappelletti...it is out of this world good. Our table had all of the starters, and they were all mouth-wateringly good. The ingredients were very fresh. The staff was welcoming and very good. Garrison was by far the best meal we had during our trip to D.C. I would go back in a heartbeat..

Great food and service. Our server's recommendations were all spot on. Only slight quibble was with dessert... apple pie for two looked amazing, but was a little bland. Should have ordered more veggies instead.

Truly excellent food! Fresh, seasonal, and creative. Small portions allow you to try a variety of dishes. We happily explored the menu's delicious offerings. My favorites were the fluke crudo and the summer three bean salad, but everything we chose was excellent.

The food was very good. Balanced flavors and great seasoning. Delicious all around. The service on the other hand is just blah. No one is interested in the menu. No real explanation of some of the menu items. Our waiter was just not really trying to explain anything or be of any real service. Its a shame; if the service was better i would have given it 4 stars!

The food here was good. The service seemed flustered and the atmosphere was confusing. The portions are quite small so definitely order an appetizer and a starter and an entree. We expected the portions to be bigger based on the $$$, and left quite hungry, having only had appetizers and entrees. We didn't want to order more food there though, as watching the ongoing service was quite stressful. Got a quirky welcome by the manager who went into great detail about the liquor laws in DC and why they cannot accept my foreign driving license as valid identification to serve me; which is fine - it just was a weird interaction, which made me uncomfortable and made for a poor set-up to the evening. Overall a weird experience, may have been an off night for us and them.

The Garrison doesn't stick out until you give it a chance. It has 3.5 stars on Yelp and hidden at the end of 8th Street on Barracks Row. The first time we went, we only grabbed a drink and almost missed out on this 5-star restaurant's food. We recently went back and wow. Amazing. Every dish uses seasonal ingredients and change all the time. Ask your server what s/he recommends. We ordered the seasonal sweet corn tortellini and was the best tortellini we've ever had. We also ordered the roasted cauliflower and that grilled mushrooms. Both were simple but looked beautiful and tasted amazing and fresh. No matter what drink you get, you'll savor ever sip. If you like sweeter drinks (but not overwhelmingly sweet) order the Right Stuff. If you like a little spice, try the Siamese Fireback. You won't be disappointed! The service was spot on and the atmosphere inviting (though, a bit dark). We're looking forward to coming back!

Excellent food, unique and fresh ingredients all around. Service was great on substance and staff demeanor, but the pace of the meal was a little too slow and drinks were sometimes empty for 5min before seeing a server. Portion size was a bit small as well. Overall I highly recommend Garrison and I hope they can tweak it into an excellent place in the coming months.

I ate at the Garrison on 1/14. The restaurant is nicely designed and the service is good. However, I can't help but have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth when you consider what you get for the price point. I get it that fresher ingredients cost more and while I do appreciate the notion of a seasonal menu and fresh from scratch, I also do not enjoy leaving a restaurant hungry at $30 a plate. My wife and I during mid meal had a feeling this would happen and we ended up getting pizza after because the portions are tiny. If the plates we had were closer to $20 in relation to what you get I'd be giving them 4 stars but at the price they charge you expect more food and not to leave hungry. The dish I had was solid but not amazing.
