Inside the Gaslamp’s Swanky New Karaoke and Cocktail Bar | Eater San Diego
"Downtown’s newest nightlife attraction is an upscale lounge that brings together karaoke and serious cocktails; the Gaslamplighter is opening in the former Ciro’s Pizzeria space on Market Street and features a sparkling stage for confident crooners as well as live music. Owner Frankie Sciuto—San Diego–born and a fourth-generation bar proprietor who started his career at the Lamplighter—enlisted GTC Design to create a glittery art-deco 1,600-square-foot room hung with photos of famous singers and nods to the neighborhood like replica gas lamps and a scaled-down Gaslamp Quarter sign. Veteran bartender David Tye consulted on a crafty 16-drink list that ranges from a back-in-fashion Carajillo to a truffle-infused martini garnished with olives, onion, and caviar, plus fresher options such as Down the Rabbit Hole (vodka with carrot, cucumber, ginger, and aloe vera). Guests can order the Side Bar’s popular double-double wagyu burgers while a bar-snacks menu is in the works; after a preview weekend the Gaslamplighter opens to the public on Thursday, February 8, with live music earlier in the evening and karaoke beginning around 9:30 p.m. and running into the wee hours." - Candice Woo
