"It’s a historically-documented fact that no one had more fun than the American expats in 1920s Paris. You missed it, that sucks, and you won’t be going to 1920s Paris any time soon, but as a consolation you should check out Gaslight in the South End. It’s all there: the French food, the globe lighting, the white-tiled walls, and the silver bar. Grab some friends and split the shellfish platter. Or if your group is six or more, let the restaurant customize a menu for your table. This isn’t the 1920s, but you also don’t have to worry about Spanish flu, so you’ve got that going for you." - Dan Secatore

For nearly nine years, our home was nestled in Gaslight Village until our recent departure. Situated in the southern region of Boston, it remains one of the finest rental locales. The administrative team, particularly Marry, excels in their service, fostering a sense of community despite our tenancy. The maintenance crew, notably Kyle, consistently provided exceptional support whenever called upon. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Gaslight team for the cherished memories and wish all residents continued prosperity.

I just want to say thank you to the leasing office employees. I know they were short-staff that week, but it was very welcoming and informational the Tour that I had. Everything was great. The paperwork went smoothly, and it was just a warming feeling while I was in the office. Hoping to get approved to get on the list.

I moved here in October and I was a bit nervous but from the day I interviewed with Cat, and then the day I moved in and got my keys I have never been happier. The residents I have met are wonderful, the maintenance staff is beyond fantastic. Kyle takes care of everything right away and is always polite and friendly. My apartment is awesome, The office staff are so friendly and understanding. The property is kept so clean I’m amazed. If anyone is looking for a safe clean and community atmosphere to live Gaslight Village is the place. They also have lots of activities and events for everyone which is nice. This is a wonderful, safe and clean place to live and it makes you feel at home.. Gaslight Village is a Gem of a place.

One of the worst community to live. Renewing lease is they say they will increase only 10$ and then you see 80-140$/month. Apartments are really old and squeaking each part of floor. worst part is New manager, he is one of the worst person and Human being. New management is one of the worst they put - Move to Avana apartments Near by.

Catherine was my tour guide and was extremely helpful. I’m from the north shore, but looking to move to the south shore. Some places that I have looked at barely gave me the time or day to answer my questions. Catherine has listened to all of my questions and followed through every time I have reached out. The location is perfect and I love how clean the facility is. It’s evident by the people that work there that the community is welcoming and respectful. Definitely worth checking out and request Catherine as your tour person because she was excellent!

I have stayed in Gaslight for close to 4 years. The community is too good. The staff in office are very friendly. Specially Marie and Cat are very responsive and always go extra mile to help people. Maintenance is very quick and respond within an hour, quicker if emergency. The best part of GasLight is cooking and heating is on gas and better. The rooms are bigger and we'll ventilated. Kitchen are compact but fully loaded with all necessary accessories, no need to buy any extra things. Laundry is shared for one full block of apartments but maintained neatly. The maintenance guys works round the clock in extreme weather to make sure the roadways, parkings and sidewalks are clean of snow. They start preparing well ahead of time for all seasons. The amenities are neatly maintained and every month there are activities for kids and residents. I had to leave the community as I had to move out of mass. I will for sure come back if I come back to mass.

This place was disgusting. The rent was through the roof and not worth it at all. Maintenance couldn’t do their jobs and ignored anything that was actually a problem. Mouse and rat infested which they did nothing about. Manager is incredibly rude and ignores anything you tell him. Do not move here.

Google
Employees and the manager is worst people. They dont communicate and just brings their attitude even though you speak nicely. Apartments are not that good either - broken woods, water damage etc. Worst thing is the management.

Lily J.

Yelp
Upon signing the lease, tenants are granted external storage space, gas stoves and pool use. As of today, they claim Weymouth won't allow the pool open, they are switching to electric stoves (which obviously raises our utility bills), and will also lose our storage space "to enable electric stoves" . These three "perks" are pretty significant, yet they're removing them without any offer of compensation or other plans.

Hannah A.

Yelp
there are no cameras so one of the tenants got their tires popped, the staff are racist and rude. If you want to live here please don't, it's just bad.

Jackson R.

Yelp
Worst place i ever lived, never live there, staff are rude, appliances are out dated, problems aren't fixed, they are bandaided. Water Pressure sucks, they don't care about there tenants. If you have bugs they don't do anything to prevent them from coming back all they do is put out bait and traps. Walls are so thin you can hear everything going on with neighbors. Grass looks gross. Barely anyone picks up dog poop. people walk aggressive dogs off leash. They don't take care of the property. If someone keeps parking in you're spot even though they claim to tow, they will not do anything! If you're moving to weymouth avoid Gaslight Village at all costs.

Yelp
This is going to be long and I apologise for that. I'll start with the good because I think that's fair, I've lived here since about 2014 and it hasn't all been bad. In fact, moving here initially into the two br apartment was so peaceful. We had just come from a really unsafe apartment complex and I started to count my blessings every morning that I woke up here. In fact, from 2014-2017 I can count on one hand the issues we had inside the apartment where maintenance needed to be called. I was genuinely happy living here. Cut to the summer of '18 and my family and I switch to a 3Br apartment here. I began noticing a lot of insects once winter was over with. And I don't mean a fly here and a fly there. All kinds of bugs ALL of the time. It takes a lot for bugs to disturb my peace so to put it into perspective, I began spending many summer nights at my friends farmhouse in NH. There were less bugs and we could sleep peacefully. Last year they fixed the structure around the dumpster (the dumpsters are very close to our bedroom windows) and this seemed to help quite a bit. Mold! Mold has been a source of contention for myself and maintenance. In fact I get the impression when I bring up mold it's like awaking a sleeper agent that was in place to defend mold and mold alone. Jokes aside, the air conditioner in this new 3br apartment/master br was thick with mold. The former manager fixed this immediately but the conversation between him and the maintenance man is something that lives in my head forever. "You sure that's not dirt?" "It's ...mold..." Anyway, it happened again in the one they replaced it with. Replaced it again. It happened again. The thing about AC units is they can be prone to mold because they don't drain FAST enough, you need to drill a hole under the coils or add a piece of cloth to create a wick effect. I don't think I need to tell anyone how dangerous black mold is, I'm a cancer patient of almost 15 years and my treatment affects my lung capacity. So mold exposure is dangerous for me. The former manager and I had words over this. He stated that mold doesn't spread and that they will not be replacing the unit again. He then told me the last AC unit they took out of my bedroom was cleaned and reused. So I asked, ok can you clean this one then because I don't want to take apart an appliance that isn't my own property. It was a no. Eventually maintenance came up with the solution of giving me a small window unit AC, but that still leaves the mold infested unit hanging out in the bedroom. This eventually had mold grow on it too but I'm sure you see a pattern here. Let's talk about noise. Everyone sees the reviews, the walls are thin/floors are super loud. We used to think it was just neighbors being jerks (sometimes it is) but it's really mostly the apartment itself. The new manager is building kind of a "no nonsense" reputation. They're actually planning on withholding part of my deposit because either maintenance/the former tenant painted the bathroom sink and mirror two different green colors and no one made note of it. So when he took over we got a bill saying we were being charged for this. Not sure why I'd paint the sink two different greens but keep the rest of my apartment a bird doodoo white but whatever floats your boat! Having a no nonsense manager has its pros though. It seems like he is taking care of problems that were being neglected for far too long and I'm appreciative of this. I think this place needs serious help though and anyone who inherits it will surely be overwhelmed. We have a new mice problem in these buildings now (exterminator came and took care of ours but we know our friends are still having problems.) There are some other issues going on that have been for awhile like people who are involved in drug activity (doesn't feel super safe), having our doorbell buzzed at 1-2AM by strangers, uncharitable behavior like subjecting everyone including children in the building to loud intimate noises and late partying, plumbing issues, heavy cigarette smoke (I'd suggest an air purifier.) The problems that everyone is having here would be small if one happened every once in awhile. Our neighbor the other day said it best "I don't expect perfection but every day there is something new." If you report problems enough to the office you'll start to feel how I feel, like you're bothering them even though you're doing what you're supposed to do. Some notes: Gas Light is one of the most affordable apartment complexes here in South Weymouth. We are still here because we suffer financially and sometimes when you're poor and there are this many issues, it feels like you're not good enough to live to the standards that everyone else has available to them. Feeling abandoned and overwhelmed is something I've felt at times here and I hope to be able to leave soon.

Yelp
Throughout the year 2020, The property manager and maintenance men of GASLIGHT VILLAGE APARTMENTS have broken into my apartment and stolen, most recently, my autographed copy of Richard Thompson's new book ($33 dollars). This has been going on since before the pandemic and I can't WAIT to move!! I should go- he's already given me two fake eviction notices......The place is a dump- 40 years of layers of paint- on the baseboard?? I am a Disabled Senior. Means nothing to these people. I wouldn't take a chance coming here if I were you and ignore the star.

Yelp
I normally don't bother with reviews because the property will come back with their canned response of "we strive hard to make this place beautiful, blah-blah-blah". I have been here over 13 yrs. When we 1st moved in, this place was beautiful, well maintained, peacefully quiet and a wonderful place to live. it USED to look like the photo's but not any more! Now I feel like I live in another country. The grounds look horrible, dead trees, bushes and the kids running amuck all over the place with no parental supervision. They have destroyed the grounds (bushes, trees & grass). They ride their bikes ALL OVER the grass, climb on trees. They stand out in the common grass areas and yell & scream, run around parked cars, in between buildings. They are disrespectful, rude and have mouths on them like a salior! One of my neighbors said she won't take her grandkids to the play ground because the kids are mean, and as I said disrespectful, rude and have mouths on them. This certain group of kids have taken over the play ground, & tennis courts. It's sad. Gone are the nice peace & quiet days. The apt mgr's think if they put this small paragraph in the monthly bulletin (no-one reads) that it will solve this problem. They don't care about those of us that have lived here a long time. They turn a blind eye because they want the rent money. They will rent to anyone. The people who have moved in over the past I'd say 3 years, don't take care about this place, they throw trash and leave toys, bikes, scooters, you name it they just toss it every where. People leave dog poop all over the yards. You aren't supposed to hang clothes off the balconies but they do. Even employees walk by trash & dog poo and never pick stuff up. There is no respect for this place, or their neighbors. Looks like a 3rd world country. Not surprising. I want to move so badly, but I can't at this stage of my life. I'm sort of stuck here. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I would have 8 years ago, but not any more. Look elsewhere, trust me, you don't want to live here.

Renee L.

Yelp
Normally not one to write reviews but hope to save anyone from any future troubles. Dont believe the glamorized photos. The only thing that will be like the pictures are the flowers and the pathway into the complex. Make sure when you get an offer for apartment that you in fact see the unit your going into. Some of the buildings are not in the best shape they don't seem to keep up with routine maintenance care unless a actual problem arises versus doing routine care to prevent things from happening. If they hesitate and show you a sample unit run for the hills because that will be your first red flag.

Mallikarjun C.

Yelp
The apartments are quite, built in a bit 80's way though. Overall clean. It was much better place to live when I first moved here, but it is degrading day by day. The maintenance stuffs often are not willing to come to fix the problem. The office staffs are friendly and gentle. The old lady supervising the pool and clubhouse is rude and often misbehaves.

Greysi B.

Yelp
I've lived here for only 4 months and hated it since we move in. We never had a noise problem and the first day we hooked up our TV the old man that lived above us complained. The walls are so thin I can hear a man snoring upstairs. On top of that, the place gets so HOT. It would be 40 or 50 degrees outside and 76 degrees in our apartment even with the windows open. You can only imagine how it's been in this July heat. I've never paid more than $50 for my electric bill, and this month it came out to $115. Our bathroom fixture is from the 60s/70s, and the kitchen and dining room tiles peel up even after they came in to "fix" them. Don't even get me started on parking. If you are a two car household, the fact that they have so many visitor parking spots will seem great at first, until you get assigned to a building that's far from the clubhouse. Even though we have an assigned parking spot we've been parking both our cars at the plaza next door because it's so close to our building and so much easier to drive out on to that very busy road. They have a model apartment that they show prospective tenants that looks nothing like the actual apartments. Don't fall for it. Ask to see your actual apartment before putting any money down. The club house seemed great at first, but we didn't realize you couldn't access it after it closes, and it closes early. Which sucks because this is the only place you can fill up your laundry card. There is also an old lady I see there the few times I've been to the clubhouse and she comes off as rude and racist. Overall, my experience at Gaslight has not been great. We are definitely moving once the lease is up.

Amanda L.

Yelp
Safe friendly beautiful community. Spacious apt. $1340 for 2 bed. Heat water gas included. Electric bill is affordable. Ac units not central. Clubhouse and pool are great. Laundry 1st floor uses laundry card you add cash to card from clubhouse. Never any cops here no bad ppl. Apt has security drive around at night. Downsides thin walls smell ppls cooking like all apartments.. Kitchen is small and older appliances. There are some updated apts but u pay higher rent probably. All my stuff works great tho so no complaints. Balcony is nice . Can only smoke outside so u don't smell ppls cig smoke.

Yelp
This has been by far the worst place I have ever lived. The staff if rude and completely unaware of anything that goes on. They let pretty much anyone live here like drug addicts and thieves. Our first year here was okay but I have no idea what happened after that. They say they are smoke free but they are not. It is disgusting and unfair that my family should have to breathe someone else's bad habit. This entire complex is more of a construction site than a place of living. Not to mention you hardly have any privacy because the maintenance people come into the apartments without warning. The buildings smell so bad and the laundry facility is filthy. Honestly do not waste your time and money here. You will be charged way too much and have to deal with too many problems.

Pspetal S.

Yelp
We lived here for 2 years because the rent here was lower than other places with the same square footage, and it is close to Boston and the red line and grocery stores and malls. The management here is rude, grumpy all the time and quite unhelpful. We managed with this fact by interacting with them as minimally as possible and even then it was horrible. They definitely behave differently with "different" tenants which is offensive since everyone pays the same rent for similar spaces. The other tenants are mostly old retirees who smoke a lot and are pretty grumpy too. The apartments are extremely old, creaky and thin-walled. The kitchens are tiny and appliances are also extremely old and yellowed. When we received the apartment, the carpet and knobs were paint-stained and very old and had a weird smell stuck to it that never came out. The corridors always smelled dank. There were cigarette butts and dog poop all over the place. They have bathroom fixtures from the 60s/70s and their ventilation fans don't really work. The kitchen has vinyl tiles that peel up. The window sills are cracked in every room. There are no light fixtures in the bedrooms and living rooms. The entire apartment is creaky. The rent is pretty high when you consider how old and badly maintained the apartments are. They also start landscaping in the mornings and seemingly every few days for hours at a time. The club house is a joke. Half the machines in the gym don't work, the pool is always dirty, they close early all the time, the old lady that sits there is rude and talks to you like you are a disobedient child, the bathrooms in the clubhouse are dirty and out of paper all the time and the laundry card can only be filled in the clubhouse. So good luck to you if you stay in the building farthest from the clubhouse and need to do your laundry at 8pm after work because you'd have to walk up to the clubhouse and it will probably be closed. I had read reviews about other people being charged for carpet replacement or general wear and tear after leaving but I didn't think it would happen to us because we shampoo cleaned the carpet regularly since I am allergic to dust and had left no permanent marks anywhere in the house. They kept most of our deposit to "replace" a patch in the carpet because they said there was a small 1" stain. The carpets are cheap to begin with and how it would cost $900 to replace a small patch is beyond me, but be aware that this will happen to you whether they use the carpet as a pretext or another issue. If you have options, spend your money elsewhere because they definitely don't deserve it.

Yelp
Unfortunately this place has gone downhill since we moved in 4 years ago. The back of the apartment grounds are disgusting. They now allow dogs and people walk their dogs and don't pick up the poop!!! Especially in the back of the building because no-one polices it and they can get away with it. Trash all over the place. The tenants in the building next to mine toss their cigarette butts, bubblegum and trash off their balconies. I am sick of walking in dog poop, on gum and all of the other trash. I will move out of this place as soon as I am financially able to. I think the rudeness people speak of is just because the staff is probably sick of hearing about all the problems. I speak to 3 staff members often and have found them to be nothing but kind. They need to clean up the whole grounds and not just plant flowers at the entrance and keep up the entrance so ppl think wow this is a pretty place. Go to the back of the apartment complex yourself and see how unkept it is. I smell the cigarette smoke from people along with all the Middle Eastern and Indian cooking smells!! They don't "fix" things, they cover it up. We had major water damage due to this unruly winter. All they did was slap some paint up. You can still see water stains. I am sure there is black mold in the ceiling. We have had to call about our appliances, and they say it is working, when infact it isn't. They don't care. One of our friends moved out because they finally got sick of it. I will too eventually. Walls are thin, you can hear everything. Sadly this place is not as great as it was 4 years ago. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Anon A.

Yelp
Not such a great experience here. Kitchen is TINY and appliances are so dated, the office staff is completely rude. People park in our assigned spot ALL the time and the office does NOTHING, even though there are signs everywhere saying that you'll be towed. In the winter there's no guest parking because that's where they dump all the snow, so anyone with two cars is screwed. And they even dump snow in the assigned parking spots while you're at work after you've spent an hour shoveling it out. The club house is supposed to be open certain hours, and that's laughable. That's the only place you can reload your laundry card and they're basically open or closed on a whim. The halls smell musty all summer because they leave the windows open and it gets extremely damp. The maintenance guys are rude, leave your doors unlocked when they're done with their "inspections" when you're not home. If they do a renovation on a unit in your building they shut the water off, which is fine, but they do it first thing in the morning when people are getting ready for work. Same with street sweeping.. they make you move your car, or threaten to tow you, in peak morning hours while most people would be getting ready for work. They start they landscaping FIRST thing in the mornings on the weekends, always seems to be on that rare occasion you try to sleep in a little. Also the lawn people blow clippings onto all the cars while they're parked, or while you're driving by, they don't care. And on top of ALL THAT, they charge ridiculous rent for dated, old apartments. With paint drips on every wall, and paint on all of the door knobs, and light switch plates, kitchens are yellow tile, yellow appliances that are rusty and old. The tile on the window sills are cracked and separated from the window. The "tile" on the floor of the kitchen is vinyl sticker and bubbles/peels. The counter tops are particle boardish and yellow like the yellow tile backsplash.
