I had dinner at Gaspar Brasserie Française and overall it was a solid, cozy experience with a few standout moments.
I started with the burrata, which was good nothing groundbreaking, but burrata is always a win. It came with tomatoes and bread, and I had a vision of making a cute little tomato-burrata-bread sandwich bite, but the tomatoes were too big and chunky to layer easily. They were juicy and fresh though, so no complaints on flavor just a bit annoying trying to get that perfect bite ratio. There was also a little quinoa at the bottom of the dish, but not enough to really contribute much. It tasted fine, but it didn't add anything and was hard to scoop up.
The bread they served was basically a mini baguette roll, and it was great. I just wish it had been a little warmer so the butter would melt more easily, but overall it was definitely better than the sourdough I'd had at other places recently.
Now for the main event Cavatelli au pesto de truffe this was incredible. The sauce was creamy, well-seasoned, and there were thick shavings of Parmesan (which I love). Underneath, there was some melted cheese that pulled everything together so well. It also had mushrooms not my favorite texture-wise, but they didn't ruin the dish. I even ate a few! It was honestly so good, but I hit my full limit halfway through, so I did what I always do and handed the rest over to other people to try, who agreed it was one of the best dishes of the night. They even said it was their favorite meal, and I completely agree.
For dessert, I got the chocolate cake. It was really good dense and rich but I kinda wish it had been warm because I personally love warm cake. It came with a scoop of ice cream that was pretty standard, nothing mind-blowing, but it paired nicely with the cake. I had like three bites before I physically couldn't eat anymore and passed it off again to others to finish.
Final verdict: Gaspar is a really solid spot. Great pasta, cozy vibes, and solid flavors all around. Definitely worth checking out if you're craving something classic and French with a little modern twist.
