Gasthaus Assenmacher

I had been planning my hike of the Rotweinwanderweg for two years and concluded the best part was from Altenahr to Ahrweiler, so decided to stay in Altenahr and made reservations for two nights at Gasthaus Assenmacher. I arrived around noon and was greeted warmly by Christa Storch, co-owner with husband Christian (she allowed me to check in early). I asked her if there was a good local hike in Altenahr for the rest of the day and she highly recommended the Ahrschleife bei Altenahr (Ahr Loop in Altenahr). Please see my TA review on this. It was wonderful. I had a tasty lunch before I left and was looking forward to a nice dinner in their fine restaurant. I was not disaapointed. I had a local white fish with a cream sauce and the smoothest and tastiest mashed potatoes I had ever had. Plus several glasses of local Spätburgunder. The meal was so good, I ate here the second night and had the exact same thing! Great experience. Room was quite nice

Outdoor balcony dining is a beautiful experience here. Excellent food. Friendly staff. The food is a bit pricy, but worth it and they’re very flexible with ordering single meals or sharing plates. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for an excellent meal with a beautiful view.

The hotel owners welcomed us to their guest house with enthusiasm. Comfortable beds and new, modern very clean bathroom. Breakfast was delicious and we had an excellent dinner in the restaurant overlooking the river and gardens with castle and scenery views. We were so happy here we didn't want to leave and would certainly return.

What a friendly place! We arrived a bit early for check in and the front door was locked, but the man in the wine shop opposite yelled up at a top floor window to alert the owner who came running down to help us! What a lovely and helpful touch. It is a family run hotel and very friendly and personal. Our room had a balcony overlooking the little river at the back. Perfect. At breakfast, apart from all the usual yummy things - yoghurts, hams, cheeses, bread etc we were asked if we would like a boiled egg - or two and also how we would like it cooked. Five minutes later it arrived piping hot and boiled to perfection. How nice, rather than a bowl of cold hard boiled eggs.||The staircase could be a bit tricky if you are not very mobile.

My Girlfriend and I wanted to go eat there, they told us to come. We arrived 30 min later and they where closed (we arrived at 1:33, kitchen closes at 1:30) - the lady told us, she cant speak english, hence she couldnt tell us on the phone that the kitchen closes at 1:30…lol-obviously she was able to tell us this when we arrived! The rudest explanation ever - not even apologizing! Worst ever! Dont support this place!

We had a nice and bright room in this hotel. People who run the place are really helpful and friendly and if you want, they can offer hiking tips. A lot of the hotels in Ahrweiler look a bit too dreary and modern to my liking, but this building had some character even if the rooms and bathrooms were (conveniently :-)) modern.

Beautiful restaurant, excellent food and service! Definitely worth the Bib gourmand rating. Highly recommend!

I called to see if we can get a table for 2 for lunch. The lady that answered the phone said yes. We took a detour from our way to get here to be told that they are closed. She did not want to give me her name (older lady in her 50’s) and was super rude. Worst experience- she just ruined my day!

The ambience and the menue of this restaurant are truly exceptional especially considering a region which tends to suffer here and there from mass tourism. The menue reflects regional specialities as well as cross-over cuisine. The amuse bouche, compliments from the chef, are unusual and very tasty. The service is unintrusive and the price level is just fine. There is a profound selection of regional but also French and Italian wines. One won't find many more restaurants of this kind in the area.
