"A native of Vorarlberg, Michael Scherz – no stranger to Cologne's gastronomy scene – focuses on Austrian cuisine, with classics such as Tafelspitz (boiled beef), Wiener schnitzel and Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake with raisins). Great Austrian wines. The service is speedy; the staff friendly and well-trained. There is also a nice bar and a very pleasant terrace to the rear of the house. Good to know: the restaurant is easily accessible from the city centre by tram." - Michelin Inspector

Had a great schnitzel here it's crazy to me how puffy the crust was none of it was even attached to the pork itself which I found strange and yet delectable. Give it a try if you're ever nearby

Gasthaus Scherz, Köln (Cologne) » Category: Austrian everyday restaurant » (Last) visit: Oct 2024 » Number of visits: 5 » My scores for this restaurant, always in relation to its category: › Service: 4.2/5 - good › Food: 4.8/5 - very good › Wine: 4.7/5 - very good › Presentation: 3.3/5 - sufficient › Premises: 3.5/5 - sufficient to satisfactory › Price to performance ratio: 5.0/5 - excellent » Total score: 4.5/5 - good to very good » Comment: The kitchen has apparently modernized the menu: Although you can still order some of the classics - which I often found quite hearty - there are now also some lighter, "fresher" and presumably lower-calorie dishes on offer. Overall, I would rate the food as very good and the price-performance ratio as excellent. B|100|43

Terrible service! APPALLING! I was visiting Köln and heard they had the best Schnitzel. The food was indeed good but we had to wait to be seated (it was empty), waited to get the menu, waited be able to order, waited to be pay, waited waited waited. It really hurt the experience and I don’t think I am going back even though I liked the food.

Austrian restaurant in Köln Sülz. Come to have authentic Austrian cuisine. Start your dinner with a bowl of Tafelspitz (boiled beef) or Backhendl (grilled chicken) on salad. Go on with Wiener Schnitzel (breaded escalope) with potato salad or Sudfleisch with spinach. End with a very special dessert of authentic Austrian style. Austrian white wine of best provenance. Austrian beer from best breweries. The staff is very attentive and helps you choose the right dishes for your individual taste. One of the best restaurants in the city! 🔝🔝🔝

Stumbled upon this place, and so glad we did. Food and service excellent. Serving traditional Austrian food. The level of cooking was the best I have had in my many visits to Köln. Will definitely be back.

Modern yet rustic at the same time inside. Service was *slow*. There was an aperitif menu on the table which the waitress asked if we'd seen, we ordered some drinks, they came and we still did not have a food menu. Starters took 40 minutes and mains another 45 after that. Would not recommend for a quick spot to eat. Sadly had heard good things but it was a little pricey for what we got also. Would maybe return in the summer as there is apparently a lovely garden.

Food is good but not many choices.
