The 37 Best Restaurants in Milan, Italy | Eater

"Aya Yamamoto, born in Tokyo and raised in Milan, opened this homey Japanese restaurant to serve “Grandma’s vegetables.” That broadly translates into a focus on items not normally seen at the city’s roughly 400 Japanese restaurants, which mostly stick to maki and California rolls. There’s lots of meat, from ka-ree (Japanese pork curry) to donburi steak, and salmon, both grilled and in sashimi. The vegetarian options are many, rich, and the most unique for Milan; try the seaweed salad and potato salad with Japanese mayonnaise. Vibe check: This Japanese comfort food draws a clientele of local regulars." - Elizabeth De Filippo-Jones

It’s a cozy, popular Japanese fusion restaurant. The star and the service were great. However I wasn’t too impressed by the okonomiyaki I ordered. For Me Japanese ponzu and majo just didn’t go well. But I noticed that others ordered all looked great. It’s a popular spot. If you don’t have a reservation, it might be a wait.

Gastronomia Yamamoto in Milan is a cozy and welcoming spot that offers authentic Japanese flavors. The ambiance is simple yet inviting, making it perfect for a relaxed meal. The Katsu Sando (pork cutlet sandwich) is a standout—crispy, tender, and served with a fresh side salad. Another must-try is the Japanese curry with rice, which is rich, flavorful, and comforting. The service is friendly and attentive, adding to the overall experience. It’s a great place for anyone wanting to enjoy traditional Japanese dishes beyond sushi. Perfect for a casual lunch or dinner, especially if you’re looking to try something unique and delicious!

An Exceptional Japanese Dining Experience in the Heart of Milan From the moment we stepped into this beautiful Japanese restaurant, we were welcomed with warm smiles and an atmosphere of true hospitality. The staff was incredibly polite, attentive, and genuinely kind — they made us feel not just like customers, but like honored guests. The food was outstanding — each dish was a perfect balance of flavor, freshness, and presentation. The ambiance was serene and elegant, adding to the overall authenticity of the experience. What truly stood out, however, was the impeccable service. Every request was met with grace, and the staff went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful evening. Their respectful, professional demeanor added a special touch to an already exceptional meal. If you're in Milan and looking for a memorable Japanese dining experience with five-star service, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

First of all, the atmosphere is incredible, casual but elegant. There are lunch menu sets with 1 main dish, 2 sides, and miso soup and they are quite authentic. The most impressive is the pudding dessert (6€), tasted as the expected firm Japanese style. The onigiri (3€) comes in 2 flavors: tuna and prune. The small flaws are the matcha sponge cake doesn’t have much matcha flavor while the cream on top was a little too milky; the katsusando wasn’t as crispy as expected on the outside. But overall the experience was great.

The tasting menu was fantastic! Japanese food might not be the first thing one thinks of when coming to Italy, but this place was delicious, very unique, and very much worth a visit. I will come back again when I'm in Milan next.

Yelp
You need to eat here! The Japanese Lombardy inspired fusion hits such perfect flavor notes. Right away you'll be asked if you have reservations. If not you'll likely be seated anyway. The service is prompt, caring, and not over bearing - plus they speak English and Japanese. They care about details such as each pair of chopsticks having their own unique artistic holder. The fried chicken was delicious. Anyone should be happy to try such a flavor packed dish, especially when it stays crisp covered in tartar sauce. The eggplant and potato salad appetizers are smooth and delicate. So far I haven't tried a bad menu item. You should really take a break from pizza and risotto to give this establishment a taste.

Yelp
This is a phenomenal spot in Milan for when you want something unexpected. Gastronomia Yamamoto serves homestyle Japanese food, like curries, stewed, fried chicken, and barbecued eel (my fave!). They also have unique Japanese beers to go with your meal! They offer reservations and the service is great. They are very attentive and easy to get a hold of if you need them. The restaurant is not too stuffy, so if you want a nice meal without having to get too fancy this is a great spot!
