10 Sheltered Patios for Rainy Outdoor Dining in Boston | Eater Boston

"While not entirely protected from the elements, a fair number of the tables that hug the outside wall at Gather are protected by its geometric overhanging roof. The overhang is especially adept at protecting buttermilk pancakes from raindrops." - Nathan Tavares

This little gem in Canton is a must visit for a morning brunch. The food was really good and tasty. The service was great, and the waitress was very attentive. I would definitely come back to explore other items in the menu!

Google
Traditional breakfast foods with a bit of artisanal flair. My GF and I were both very pleased with our plates. The build your own coffee was great and the house made hot sauce was top notch. It doesn’t affect my rating but I feel I should mention the waitstaff felt a bit disarranged.

Google
Came here with my family and was not disappointed. Nolan was our server and he was absolutely amazing. So attentive and friendly. One of the best servers I have ever had. The food was delicious and you could tell everything was fresh and made to order. Highly recommend and I will definitely be returning.

Google
This fairly new gem I’m the heart of Canton village was such an unexpected elevated food experience. From the sliced and griddle grilled cranberry muffin with vanilla bean butter on the side to the Chef’s Choice breakfast that included a freshly toasted English muffins bathed in their famous Mornay cheese sauce topped with crispy pork belly, arugula and a sunny side egg to the banana French toast cold brew to the delicious Rhode Brew, this breakfast experience was nothing less than top notch. I will be back very soon, and I hope to see you all there.

Google
Beautiful plates and great people ❤️. The food was delicious and so satisfying! I had the breakfast burrito bowl, and my husband had an omelet. We also tried the corned beef and fried chicken. Everything was fresh and full of veggies. We loved their in house hot sauce—it’s so good we left with a bottle.

Google
Delicious food and unique coffee drinks! Our table got the Corned beef poutine (flavorful rich sauce), Harvest brunch bowl (delicious and filling), kids pancakes and French toast sticks (homemade vanilla cream butter served with them was yummy). I also tried the shaken maple cold brew which hit the spot, and my husband enjoyed black coffee. Everyone was totally satisfied, and we can’t wait to come back. So happy to have a restaurant like this in Canton.

Google
We stopped in this morning for breakfast and just like with the Pembroke location, we were not disappointed! We started with a chocolate chip bread pudding muffin and a couple of the specialty coffees and had a breakfast burrito/breakfast burrito bowl as our main. Everything was very tasty and my husband enjoyed the house made hot sauce. They did a great job decorating the new place and their staff was attentive and very friendly/helpful. Definitely will be back!

Google
I greatly enjoyed the meal, but the service was abhorrent. 20 minutes after being seated our server didn’t bring the pitcher of water or coffees that we ordered. She was folding napkins at the bar, I had to go to the bar request our drinks. Once the food was served we had to ask for utensils. The food took about 45 minutes (omelette and pancakes) it was tasty albeit slightly cold. I asked for condiments, after 10 minutes I went to the host stand and nearly grabbed them myself before a staff member noticed me. Not once after the meal was served did staff come by the table. When we were about finished the owner came around and greeted the tables, it was nice but the damage was done. I’ve never walked out on a meal but this was close. When we asked for the check it was another 10-12 minutes, at which time the server asked us what we ordered 🤣. The staff was young with zero front of house presence. I can’t say that I recommend this location after this experience. 3 times I had to leave my table to find a server to get items that I requested previously. It was not busy, the dinning room had multiple open tables and 3 servers were working the floor. 6/15

Yelp
The IG page looked amazing so we decided on brunch this weekend. We got there and luckily we got seated pretty quick. It's pretty small 10 tables or so with a counter area that had 6 or so seats. Menu looked great! It took our server close to 10 minutes to come to our table. They had 3 or 4 servers on for 10 tables should be no issues. We ordered our food and I ordered a flight of lattes. So the appetizer came out, it was the breakfast egg rolls. They were ok. Not much flavor to them. My French toast came out next with my wife's eggs. The French toast i asked for extra butter on the side. I didn't get any butter. I asked the server and finally got some. Next my side of sausage and corned beef hash came out. Still no water, side plates or silverware. Finally, my lattes came out. My wife's latte never showed up. I had to return my French toast to the kitchen. It was barely grilled and was super mushy. It seemed like all the kitchen wanted to do was push out food with no timing of the rest of the ticket. Overall, I see so much potential, maybe we will give it another try. With so many amazing brunch places, it's hard to give 2nd chances.

Yelp
Cute little brunch spot in Canton. There's a small parking lot and plenty of street parking. It was a bit busy on Saturday for brunch. We waited a little bit for our waitress to get our food order in. The food was good and it was filling enough where I didn't feel too stuffed. When we were checking out, there was some technical difficulties with the card reader.

Yelp
Cozy brunch spot! Coffee flight was fantastic and the omelette was amazing! Good hearty portions for in between some games). The bread was (buy a loaf to take home) worthy.

Yelp
Best restaurant experience I've had in a long time! First of all, it's beautiful inside. They definitely pay attention to each detail- from the decor to the table settings to the food itself. Each thing that came out from the kitchen was beautiful! Food was perfectly seasoned, portions were big and fairly priced, and the staff was all friendly. The chef came out to greet everyone! They made a great first impression, we will definitely be back!

Yelp
Perfectly decent brunch experience, but nothing to write home about. My friend and I walked in around 11 on a weekend and the sign up front said to seat ourselves. There were a couple empty tables but they still had dishes on them and we didn't see any other seats - eventually a few people left the bar so the servers cleared and wiped down the bar for us. We had to ask for silverware and water, but they gave us the menu pretty quickly and checked for drink orders early (we didn't order anything). Because we were at the bar we were able to flag them down easily to place a food order, and we both got omelettes. This is where the wait was (consistent with other reviews) - it took probably a half hour to get our food. It was clear that they got it out to us when it was made because it was still hot, it just took forever to actually make our dishes. The food was quite good, the homefries a little on the oily side but therefore well crisped and all cooked (none of those hard potato problems) and the omelettes were nicely sized, they didn't skimp on the fillings. The toast was particularly good! We asked for the check as we were finishing eating so we didn't have to wait for that. I would probably come back if I were in the area, but not if I were in a rush.

Yelp
Goodness. Came here on a rainy Friday morning and there was PARKING and NO LINE. I really loved the energy of the place. There were families with kids and the chef was speaking to regulars at the bar. It felt like we were all just coming together for a meal. Now the food. Oh my gosh the food. They ran out of the Snickerdoodle coffee I'll just have to come back to try that but the Maple Cold Brew with cold foam and the Salted Caramel mocha were *chef's kiss*. The maple Cold brew had real maple syrup at the bottom and so the end of my drink was just as good as the first sip. My friend got the eggs and toast option (Something simple, I think) but I got the eggs Benny with chorizo and traditional hollandaise and it was SO good. The hollandaise had a tang that I really like. Would recommend. The REAL star of the show though was the bread pudding muffin, recommended by the chef. We split one and then each bought another to bring home later. Sorry I didn't take a photo. Had to eat it. No time for pictures. I'll come back again!! To try that Snickerdoodle coffee and to stock up on those muffins.

Yelp
A new brunch spot located on a Main Street of a busy town center, Gather brings delicious dishes to all! AMBIANCE: Clean and quaint, the venue itself can accommodate large groups and couples. There's bar seating as well. There is typically a long wait on weekends so I recommend coming through early! FOOD: The menu includes a lot of familiar favorites like eggs and hash, French toast, pancakes, and eggs benedict. I ordered the hash and eggs and it was absolutely delicious! The salted caramel latte was interesting but probably wouldn't order again - coffee and flavors weren't strong at all so that was disappointing. SERVICE: The staff was friendly and checked up on us frequently. At one point the chef came around and greeted everyone which was nice.

Yelp
I want to like this place but have been here twice and it's just so overpriced and doesn't execute strong enough. Today I paid $7.50 for a white mocha matcha drink that was actually a nice flavor but it came in a small mug and was 1/3 foam. I also paid $5 for a tiny side of bacon (3 pieces) that I asked for crispy and it definitely was pretty flopsy. The restaurant business is hard but for their prices they need to deliver a stronger end result.

Yelp
Omg who does that! Waitress delivered the wrong plate to the wrong customer. I'm glad my daughter just happened to see this. The customer took a bite and then told the waitress this was not what he ordered. After a few they brought the plate straight over to our table. Had to be told I saw that. Should have ruined the first one because the 3 mm remake came right back out too fast‍ At that point we just paid and left. Better sanitary practices please. The coffee was good.

Yelp
I went to Gather for the first time & Ill be back! I really enjoyed the Chai tea and the quinoa bowl was yummy & full of vegetables! I am looking forward to trying more dishes soon.

Yelp
I was really excited to support this new Black-owned restaurant, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The initial impression was positive, as we were seated promptly in a quiet area. However, things quickly went downhill. We sat at our table for **22 minutes** without any service -- no water, no menus, nothing. We tried to make eye contact and wave down the waitstaff, but they walked right past us, even giving menus to a couple that had just arrived. After a while, we waved down another waitress who asked if we had been served, and when we explained we hadn't, the two waitresses exchanged a few words, pointed towards our table, and... still nothing. At that point, we decided to walk out. It's disappointing because I was excited to try a new restaurant, but this experience left a bad taste. I really hope the management takes note of this issue so future customers aren't left feeling ignored and unimportant.

Yelp
Food was drowned in oil. Food was over priced and not good. Coffee was okay, dressed up but the coffee itself tasted average. Couldn't eat my food though, just completely inedible. Server was kind but seemed upset we didnt eat everything but it honestly wasn't edible.

Yelp
I came in skeptical but I left impressed (and brunch is my meal). I came to check out this new spot with a friend. I was expecting a line at prime Saturday brunch time, but there were multiple open tables (maybe suspicious? Waiting to see.). The waitresses were super attentive and friendly. They didn't miss any of our requests. We both got the snickerdoodle coffee and different versions of their eggs benedict. I was impressed by how everything was cooked! I got the veg benedict and the mornay sauce and was so impressed with the presentation and taste, which was very veggie forward. You need to order potatoes on the side which I didn't love. It was a little expensive overall for the amount of food we got, and the potatoes needed more seasoning. Otherwise, great experience, and I will definitely be trying more here!

Yelp
I love everything about Gather and their new location. The new space is much bigger than their previous location but still feels cozy. My favorite thing about Gather is that it is a family owned business and everyone seems genuinely happy to be there. The food is incredible and I will never stop raving about the Morne sauce. There is a lot of love behind each dish. I am also really happy to see they now have some new tasty cold and hot coffees. The ones we tried had the creamiest cold foam I have ever had. A must try if you are in the Canton area.

Kathleen D.

Yelp
The food was out standing. We had the avocado toast that was fresh and delicious. The bread pudding muffins were warm and tasty. It's worth the wait!

Tabitha L.

Yelp
My family's regular brunch / breakfast spot! Amazing food and awesome chefs, waiters and ambiance!!

Ian B.

Yelp
Absolutely love this spot in Canton. Really nice atmosphere, service and food. Chef/owner Shelton took the time to check on each table being served (~11am on a Friday). I got the Carolina, my wife got the chocolate chip pancakes with bacon, and we split a cinnamon roll. Plus, the coffees were fantastic. Highly recommend, we'll be back.

Shealynne W.

Yelp
The food here was delicious & the pistachio latte was so yummy! The wait staff was very personable & provided excellent services. The vibes of the establishment are very comfy & welcoming. We will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Went back to give the restaurant a second chance after having gone when it first opened. Unfortunately, they still require significant help. Ordered the Something Hearty and it took over 35 minutes from placing the order to receiving the food, which is far too long for a breakfast restaurant serving eggs and potatoes. Additionally, the potatoes were browned on the outside, but uncooked on the inside - couldn't even be pierced by a fork. The only item on the plate that wasn't cold was the bacon (which was quite good). The bread was just thrown on the side, wasn't warmed or toasted. Hoped this restaurant would be a great addition, but they need a lot of work.

Melissa F.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the hospitality was welcoming. We met the owner. He came to our table and had a small conversation with us, that made us feel comfortable. The setup of a simple meal looks like a 5 star dish. I would recommend this restaurant.

Jared M.

Yelp
My wife and I went to Gather for breakfast on a Saturday morning, and let me tell you, it was like hitting the jackpot. The service was great. The chef came out to check on us and treated me like an old buddy, and that makes a meal even better. I had the corned beef breakfast poutine and it's like they've cracked the code to breakfast perfection. The corned beef was killer, mixed in with crispy sweet and white potatoes and a delicious gooey cheese sauce. I'm not sure how I'll be able to order anything but this dish in future visits. If you're looking for a spot that dishes out fantastic food and treats you right, Gather is where it's at. I'm definitely making this place a regular breakfast spot.

Yelp
Start to finish this place is wonderful! Mandy served us and couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating! Took care of all of our needs with a smile. The food was unbelievable, the breakfast burrito was huge but I couldn't stop eating it, especially with the house made hot sauce! The owner came out to check on everyone with a smile. Everyone in my party was raving about everything. Clean, cute and friendly. Can't wait to go back, absolutely the new spot!

Mary C.

Yelp
I can't say enough about the food and how delicious it is and how lovely the entire staff is. We came in this morning to celebrate the adoption of our son being finalized and felt like the entire restaurant was celebrating with us. We had a lovely conversation with the chef and it just made this day even better than it already was. Cannot wait to come back and make Gather a regular spot for our family. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!
google avatar

Tessa M.

Yelp
We enjoyed it here. First time was amazing and we had the hash second time I got the same thing and it was undercooked. (Mostly the potatoes) so it's a bit of a hit or miss but we will still be back.
google avatar

Straightshootah C.

Yelp
This new place is not one to which I will return. It is small and drafty, the tables and chairs are metal, which was a bit u comfortable and very cold when we sat down. The food was okay. Very limited menu and I guess if you wanted only fancied breakfast food, it would be okay. It's very pricey, and when we went for lunch, I ordered their grilled cheese sandwich, which had bacon and bits of tomato. It's served with chips and cost $13.99! Most everything else that would be a good lunch choice was higher priced. I won't be going back.
google avatar

İlke O.

Yelp
First 2 times the food was great but they were understaffed and chef was losing his mind in the kitchen by himself. Orders were constantly getting mixed up. That's all fine new business and we thought we should support them, went there again. We were told there was a wait and we were asked to leave. When we said parked far away, waitress went and asked the manager if we can wait inside and we were told no - we had to go back to our car. I am not going back it's 37 degrees and you basically don't want my business!!!!

Angela H.

Yelp
This place should have a 5 star on Yelp. This is my favorite breakfast place I've been to. It's so good. The coffee and the breakfast. This isn't your typical diner, it's much more elevated. The chef changes the menu every few months and it's a scratch kitchen. They have the best gluten free bread I've had and you can tell it's made fresh, not like Udi's. I try to at least once a month. The only thing that can be improved I guess is the service, something there are several dirty tables just sitting there, but not something that impacts my experience. I have brought friends and family here multiple times and it's honestly the best food you won't be disappointed!!!

Annelise F.

Yelp
Great food - Great drinks- Grest Sevice!!! We love their creative menu, we always find everything so fresh and delicious !!

Gina A.

Yelp
The restaurant is cute and my server was great. The food was good. I got the breakfast burrito and liked it very much.

Seif A.

Yelp
Horrible. Server was so slow didn't bring us water. The food came before the coffee and then while eating we found a piece of hair in the food. Our sever didn't check on us once when we called her over to tell her about the hair she was just texting on her phone. Do yourself a favor and don't come here.

Jayne C.

Yelp
The food here is always delicious and the chef is very creative. I used to go to his business when he was on the South Shore and really missed it. Highly recommend.

David S.

Yelp
Food was great, and the service was very good!! The wait wasn't long .They could use the wall on the right to put a few more tables, like the previous owner did. We will be back again soon. Best of luck!!

Amanda M.

Yelp
The vibes were really cute. It is a really nice, cozy restaurant. Food and drinks are super yummy! I got the sweet potato chicken sausage omelet and it was delicious, very big portions. I also got one of their cold brews, very very good. The service was incredible. I had this young boy and he was amazing. One of the best servers I think I have ever had. Amazing. Highly recommend.

Catherine A.

Yelp
The food was delicious and fresh. And the service was quick and friendly! We really enjoyed the coffee, eggs, pancakes and kid friendly menu as well. We will definitely be back
google avatar

Cee E.

Yelp
Gather is a solid no-frills brunch option in the heart of the town. It's located in the former Amber Road space, and while they've optimized the layout slightly, it's still tiny so get there early! The pancakes were light and fluffy, and I thoroughly enjoyed them even though I am not a pancake person. The employees are super friendly but efficient.
google avatar

Don Y.

Yelp
Went there last week with my kids. The waiting are is not adequate for the winter. They said they could modify most items on the menu and they didnt. We tried to get French toast without the sweet potato filling and they said they couldn't do that. We got regular french toast and it was under cooked. My other daughter got chocolate chip pancakes, there was just a few chips in pancakes. The egg dish was cold, the bacon was the best thing on the menu. Finally my daughter has a nut allergy and they gave her a side of butter with what appeared to have an almond in it.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Today was our second time at Gather, we had a five star experience on our first visit but left very disappointed this time. We started by splitting a cinnamon roll and two of their specialty coffees. The cinnamon roll was good but outer edge was crunchy and not soft. The coffees lacked every bit of flavor we experienced during our first visit. We hoped the coffee was just off today and the rest of our meal would be as delicious as the first time. I had blueberry pancakes with my breakfast but they were still raw in the center. They offered to remake them for me, which i accepted. When the new stack came they gave me three instead of two but they were still slightly undercooked. My fiancé also had to send her Benedict back because it was cold. They remade that too but this time the pouched eggs were overcooked and not runny. We never got an apology and nothing was credited on the bill. Sad to say we don't think we will be back.

Bob D.

Yelp
Great food. Cool menu choices and flexibility. Nice interior. Bring a sweatshirt. They crank the AC.

Bridget B.

Yelp
Be mindful of the hours. The cafe indicates that it is open at 7:00 on the website and Yelp, however it is not open until 8:00am. You will not know until you arrive and see the sign on the side wall outside of the restaurant. I drove up from RI and stood outside the door for about 10 minutes until I noticed. The workers inside looked at me and went to the back to be out of view.

William R.

Yelp
Good quality food but a bit bland. Old place before this closed down but was amazing. If owner of this place remembers old menu or can hire previous staff, they would be rocking in money. All the locals feel the sane way.,

Madison K.

Yelp
Food was delicious!! Mandy was an excellent server. Shaken maple cold brew is a must when you come here. Good atmosphere and cute vibes

Kei C.

Yelp
We had a private dinner gathering! The service was amazing. The crab cake Benedict was amazing!!!! You got come try this place out!!!
google avatar

Tatiana D.

Yelp
Like so many other locals, I was super disappointed when Amber Road closed since it was one of the very few places offering gourmet breakfast options. I was reluctant to try this new place thinking there was no way they could even come close. I'm so glad that I finally stopped in for breakfast with my daughter last week because our meals were amazing! While the menu is much smaller than their predecessor, the variety & flavors were unique and creative. The coffee was impressively bold, breads freshly baked, and the house made mornay sauce was absolutely delicious(and gluten free)!! I cant understand why some of the other reviews aren't great but I would say it really depends on your palate. If you are looking for your basic bacon & eggs then this might not be your place(although it is on the menu) - but if you are looking for fresh, creative, gourmet breakfast options, then I would highly recommend. We were both impressed and certainly will make it our go-to place again.

Stan O.

Yelp
Excellent food, love eating there. service, ambience. Recommend it to everyone I know

Chris Y.

Yelp
walked in today Sunday march 10th at 1:29 we were greated "sorry where closed " if you close at close at 2:00 then close at 2:00 if you going to close at 1:29 then post a Sighn you close at 1:29 no at 2:00 I have eaten there twice before once when they first opened not Impressed second time last fall still not impressed (they ran out of a few items on the menu that I tried to order as well) I always give a restaurant 3 chances today was the 3rd chance no more won't go back

Mary Jane B.

Yelp
Gave this new restaurant a try for breakfast and was so glad we did! Food was spectacular and service was top notch. Chef Shelton's homemade hot sauce was excellent! Great addition to downtown Canton!

Jason M.

Yelp
Food was decent at best. This was my second time. I'm not giving them 2 stars because they've been around for only a month and hopefully they improve their food

Rachel M.

Yelp
Ordered mocha caramel coffee, tasted no mocha, coffee was sour. Menu very limited, service quite slow, it's cold and drab inside, got bacon and cheddar omelette, eggs were overcooked and cheese inside was not even melted, English muffin was dry nothing on it, no butter on the side even, and at that point it was too cold for the butter to even melt on the muffin. Very disappointed in this place I was so excited to try.

Jim L.

Yelp
Our waitress was very nice, professional and communicative. She explained the specials. The food was awesome and not too expensive.
