"Gaudino’s puts a modern spin on the traditional Italian market while maintaining a casual vibe. Under the care of a third generation of Gaudinos, the menu’s Bolognese, five-spice ribs, and takeaway entrees like pans of lasagna are cherished, and come from decades-old family recipes." - Danny Palumbo

We were shopping in the area, so stopped in for lunch (first time), where we were warmly greeted. Tried one of their famous subs and I can see why! Delicious. Finished up sharing a chocolate cake dessert - one of the best I ever had. Service was excellent. Thank you and we will be back soon to try the dinner menu.

My buddy and I stopped here by chance for lunch on our way back from a meeting. The atmosphere was very pleasant and thought out. The waitress gave us a history of the place and family who had owned the property/business over generations. Very nice to hear. We ordered a custom pizza with basil, Italian sausage, mushroom and mozzarella. It was a bit more bread than I like but still very tasty. We took some Gaudino Italian subs to go for later and they, too, were delicious. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely come back!

This was our second visit to Gaudino’s. The service was as spectacular as the first visit. The food was again incredible. I had the filet, not pictured, and it was cooked perfectly as requested. We asked for recommendations on entrees and appetizers and the results were even better than expected. We will be back soon. Great place, great food, great service, and excellent atmosphere.

I had high hopes for Gaudino’s after hearing so many wonderful things and Italian is my absolute go-to for going out to eat but unfortunately I was completely underwhelmed. I will say, the ambiance is beautiful and I liked the dim lighting. Their market looks great with a variety of cold cuts, salads, pastas and other pantry items. I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan. The food is delicious, but the portions are ridiculously small. We ordered two appetizers to share, plus our meals and dessert and I didn’t feel full. I wasn’t even that hungry to begin with but the portions were very sparse especially for the price-point. I have never left an Italian restaurant without feeling stuffed or having leftovers. The service was another big turnoff, as we felt rushed and our server was not very friendly/cheerful and it really seemed like she did not want to be there that Friday night. We had a 7:30p reservation, they closed at 9, and there were only a couple other tables while we were there. A young busser kept constantly coming over asking to clear our plates when there was clearly food left on it. I appreciate the efforts but it was excessive, every couple of minutes. Very off experience and I’m not sure I’ll be back.

Google
The server was very nice, clean restaurant, great food, and the only drawback was the sort of slow service. The server answered my questions and they’re very good about helping assist my choices in a dairy allergy so that was a bonus. The sub sandwich exceeded my expectations. The chicken pastina soup was delish. Meatballs (appetizer) were very tasty- and the mougue sauce served with the calamari was so good! I would recommend Guadino’s.

Had a fantastic evening at Gaudino’s tonight! The staff were friendly & top notch from the minute we stepped in. Really enjoyed exploring the deli cases and other goods. Live acoustic trio was VERY good and added to the experience. The food, drinks and dessert were outstanding. Great couple’s date night! Thanks!

Google
Only tried the famous Italian for carry out twice. Both times they were delicious. The only reason im giving 4/5 starts is because on the second time i ordered a bowl of soup and it was $9 for what looked like a cup size portion. Being that sandwich is $10.50….id say the soup is way overpriced. Good soup but not worth the price they are charging. Will be back to try an entree at some point.

Google
Had dinner with a few friends. The atmosphere was great. Service was excellent, and the only reason why I didn't give the food 5 stars was due to my own taste preference. My food choice was good, but my pasta was a little drier than I wanted it to be. Nevertheless, I enjoyed myself and would go back.

David S.

Yelp
I had the Halibut Arrostata. This was a great dish. The fish was very good. The corn cake was awesome. The service was great as it always is.

Yelp
This place has received rave reviews for years, and recently my wife and I finally made it to Gaudinos for a dinner date. Let me say, the food itself is not the issue, our appetizer was good and our meals were very tasty. The portions were a little on the small side, but not a one-bite plate by any means. The service was another story. As we walked in behind another couple who was happily greeted by the host and server, we waited our turn to a very snarky, short response from the host. We were seated, our waitress came by once every 15 minutes, if I'm generous. The dish crew were nice and pleasant, but they were also high school aged kids who hadn't had the life sucked out of them by this atrocious establishment. It appears to me, that unless you are a regular debutante, you are relegated to the sidelines and your patronage is not of particular importance. All in all, there are better places to spend you money and night out than going here. 3 stars for decent food and drinks.

Jenni R.

Yelp
This place was very good! We met friends for dinner here and got to meet the owner who was very personable. The owner even took the time to give us the history of the place when we asked (3 generations!). There's lots of old family pictures in the area by the restrooms too. The food was very good - Italian. Most of us paired and split a salad and pizza. We had leftovers for the next day. Highly recommend!

Janet L.

Yelp
Service was horrible. Absolutely horrible. We ended up asking for the bill right after the appetizer that we finished and still hadn't ordered. I could understand if they were busy but they are not usually open on Sundays and there was nobody else dining in. What a shame the food had potential to be great but we didn't get that far. Calamari grilled was over salted. Good luck Gaudino's. Also girl walked in circles many times but never stopped to ask us anything just stare awkwardly.

Randy K.

Yelp
Awesome food, great service and a cool atmosphere. Love Gaudino's!! Always a hit when I introduce new people there.

Rebecca R.

Yelp
If I've said it once I'll say it twice. Gaudino's is one of my favorite restaurants in St Clair Shores. Just all around good fare. I highly recommend their chicken soup. It's good for your soul.

Ch C.

Yelp
I actually like this place, something I find more and more difficult to say about restauarants these days.

Joe B.

Yelp
If you're on the east side and looking for a great lunch Gaudino's is a place you should consider. Head sandwich maker Sal Rubino always puts together something delicious. Great guy and all the offerings are delicious. Plus you can purchase sausage, sauces and all kinds of other great Italian staples. Tbs entire staff makes you feel welcome.

Marne B.

Yelp
Excellent food, well prepared. Quite a unique restaurant, grocery , deli experience. Wonderful tiramisu dessert. Can be a bit loud when kids are running around, as tables as very close.

Yelp
I've been here like 10x with never actually dining in. I have no clue why this is. I don't frequent the area much and when I am around here I'm usually just thinking of grabbing a quick bite. The sandwiches are in top 3 for metro-Detroit. They're incredible. The cannolis are absolutely divine. I love the atmosphere and concept of this place so much. I can't wait to actually get in and try a dinner service.

Jared H.

Yelp
Everything about this place is amazing. The food is great, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the owner comes by frequently and is absolutely wonderful. I've only had great experiences here.

Natalie C.

Yelp
Delicious. Marvelous. Spectacular. Went for an anniversary date. Very clean and comfortable environment. Drinks and wine were delicious. I got the JoMarie martini and espresso martini! So yummy. If you like a creamy espresso martini, best one I've had is here. Langostino pasta was very scrumptious. Large portion on your plate, lots of langostini - creamy delicious pesto sauce. Tiramisu was spot on. "Spectacular, give me 14 of them right now (TikTok reference)". Recommend getting it with salted caramel gelato. Excellent service, we never had an empty water glass. Will come here again!

Tom L.

Yelp
First time eating here. We tried their signature Pizza and Bolognese. It was excellent. Next we will get a reservation as it assures you a better table. The price was very reasonable and the server knew the menu well. Wine selection was small but had quality choices. A full bar as well as a deli that sold meats and other dishes to carry home. Can't wait to eat here again.

Yelp
Finally grabbed a reservation for 4 of us tonight, booked it the night before. Yeah. Took my mother and SD out for a belated birthday dinner tonight. Judy is waiting on us. She's attentive and good to us. They changed their menu. No more lasagna. :/ Ordered a verdura pizza and calamari, Melanzane parmigiana (eggplant Parmesan), a bowl of zuppa di casa, Mediterranean salad, Manhattan, 2 arugula salad, ravioli, tiramisu. The eggplant Parmesan is okay, tad salty. The halibut wasn't bad. It tasted and smelled a bit fishy. The corn risotto wasn't my favorite. The Mediterranean salad was good. The chicken zuppa di casa was good for my SD. The ravioli was the tastiest. The verdura pizza was so-so. Crust was crispy. The calamari was lightly breaded, not greasy and super light. Nicely done. The arugula salads were good. Light lemon dressing. The insalata mista wasn't bad. The tiramisu was quite good. We all shared it since we were all stuffed but wanted a cake slice to put a candle on. Service was really good. Our table was kept clean and clear of excess items.

Dan C.

Yelp
Excellent! The filet is especially delicious! Great atmosphere and service. Gaudino's is in our rotation!

Katie D.

Yelp
The ambiance is perfect for an afternoon lunch or date night dinner! Love the Italian sub!

Annon Imus X.

Yelp
My husband and I ate here last weekend. I wish we hadn't waited so long to try this place! Everything we had was amazing. We started with the charcuterie board (very nicely done with a nice size portion of meats and cheese, especially compared to other establishments that can be quite stingy) and the meatballs (which were wonderful!). I had the porcellino pasta (omg, I cannot wait to have it again) and my husband had the carbonara, which he loved. The interior is quite interesting. There is a deli counter, cold salads, and cheeses in showcases, along with dried pastas and other dry goods located in the center of the restaurant and along the wall. Then there are guest tables and a long shared high-top table around the exterior. It sounds strange but it somehow works and makes it feel like a quaint, neighborhood restaurant. I can't wait to go back!

Rob P.

Yelp
I hate to drop this reference, but I went to Rome last year, before the world shut down. Who am I kidding: I *love* saying that. Since I have no idea how long it will be before I can go back, it's nice to know that I have a little slice of Italy not far from my house. One advantage they have over Italy is that you don't have to go to several shops to find what you're looking for. Another advantage is that everybody here speaks English. There's no produce, but anything else you can imagine that's involved in Italian cooking can be found here. I couldn't find orichietta (ear shaped pasta) at fancy pants Nino Salvaggio's across the street, but they had two different brands here. They have truffle zest here: not truffle salt...truffle zest. The selection of cheeses is truly exquisite, but you do pay a premium for the quality. This is totally worth the price if you feel like something better than a standard block of Parmesan Reggiano that you might get at the supermarket. There are also some terrific prepared foods here. Again, you do pay a premium for what you get. The eggplant roulade is amazing, but will cost you three dollars for a small roll. You can also make a meal of your visit if you like. There was an excellent selection of wines to go with a variety of freshly prepared foods. I am looking forward to returning here on Sunday: they have brunch.

Linda S.

Yelp
Excellent food, nice menu choices, wait staff is friendly, fun to shop the meat counter, but menu is fairly pricey.

Molly Z.

Yelp
I've been for lunch and it was good, but recently went for dinner and it was AMAZING. Our waitress was perfect - answering questions and helping us decide all while never rushing us or pushing us into any dish in particular. The food? So good. The portions? generous. The salted caramel gelato? Great! Will be back.

Kerry S.

Yelp
The meatball sub was delicious!!! Everything in the restaurant looked amazing and the staff were very friendly. Will definitely be back to try more items on the menu.

Alicia F.

Yelp
Their hanger steak meal is one that I crave. The portions are a good size, the atmosphere is modern and intimate, and the desserts in the counter were a great way to cap the meal. Our server JoJo is one of the best. It will make our main rotation of local restaurants.

Alexa L.

Yelp
Oh man, this restaurant is underrated. I went here for my birthday because I know someone else who did and we've driven by a hundred times. Let me tell you, St. Clair Shores and the Grosse Pointes have some crappy restaurants. I haven't rated any above 4 stars. But this one is a 5. The atmosphere is super fun, the service was excellent and the employees were all so nice. The food was great, authentic Italian without being stuck-up and fancy. We each got a pizza and both were great, as was the complimentary bread and oil appetizer. Two of us ate 1.5 pizzas and we took the rest home. If you have people visiting from out of town and want to show them somewhere unique and fun, this is the place!

John M.

Yelp
I was in the area visiting family and we decided to meet for dinner at Gaudoinos. Overall, I would say it was pretty good...here is what I especially liked: - Cool Italian market-in-a-restaurant vibe; but, we were there around 5pm on a Wednesday and it was packed so plan ahead. - Nice broad menu...lots to choose from. I was the only one drinking and found the wines-by-the-glass selection to be acceptable. - Food was good overall...we especially liked the Prosciutto & Mozzarella appetizer. The Pappardelle had about two scallops and two prawns, which was a bit skimpy from my perspective. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente though. Bottom line: Nice location for an Italian meal...not the most spectacular Italian food I've ever had, but completely solid. And, the ambiance was a plus, especially for the area.

Steve R.

Yelp
Awesome food, service and wine! We ordered a pasta and filet, with a bottle of red wine. One of the best meals I've had in a while!

Cameo M.

Yelp
Food is fresh and delicious. You can tell it's homemade in house. I recommend one of the sandwiches on the lunch menu with their homemade bread or the oven roasted pizza on the dinner menu with their homemade crust.

Jim O.

Yelp
Good, not great. Different concept, with deli in middle of restaurant about a 10 minute wait- with 8 pm reservation. Started with a bottle of Pinot noir, pretty good. Shared egg plant Parmesan and lamb chop dinners. Chops were winner of the two. Encrusted with pistachios - tasted good. Eggplant did nothing for me- came with small amount of pasta. Ok salads included. Chose spinach as aside with the chops. Bread, olive oil and cheese- good also. $105 with tip. Service was good.

Jackie S.

Yelp
Great food, home-style atmosphere. A couple of suggestions to elevate the experience-the host looked darn miserable being there. Rather than tossing the menus on the table and sulking away, it would have been appropriate to pull out my chair and tell us to enjoy our dinner. You lose points for that. The bread should be warm and crusty instead of cold like it came from the cooler. These two very small things could have earned an additional star from me. Also, the veal chop for $59 should have a small side of pasta with it like all meat dishes should, it would cost almost nothing to elevate the special.

Stephen H.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant in Saint Clair Shores. The environment, the staff, the food is all top notch.

Dara D.

Yelp
Excellent local Italian restaurant!!! The Italian wedding soup is delicious! Ravioli was excellent! Everything is homemade and they always get their carry out orders correct. Highly recommend!

Mj J.

Yelp
Great time celebrating birthday kickoff at Gaudinos! This place is adorable in every way. Gaudino's serves as a market and eatery. They have a huge deli area with grab and go items from speciality meats, cheeses, wine, and Italian prepared food selections. They have a cute covered heated patio area for dining. I was excited to enjoy a romantic birthday dinner. We ordered a few drinks...of course, I wanted some bubbles and he decided on a mule. We decided to choose a few entrees to share. The pizza was very good and the pasta, quite tasty. Of course we ended our night with a piece of tiramisu and Spanish coffee to keep us toasty. I think we both agreed that the tiramisu was the best item on the menu. Hahaaa On a side note: Bill, the manager, is fantastic! He went above and beyond to accommodate my birthday celebration.

Caitlin S.

Yelp
The Italian sandwich is so delicious I had it two weeks in a row. I Highly recommend !!

M S.

Yelp
Slipping slipping big time I'm very sad to have spent almost $200 here for a meal that was fine I suppose but so lack luster. The dishes used to be far more exciting and complete feeling. Three of the items we got were technically different menu items but aside from chicken on one of them you'd never be able to tell. It was sad - especially because it was supposed to be a special night out for a celebration and the food did not do anything to warrant the price nor did it feel like a time we'll spent. Highly disappointed and won't be returning

Jon R.

Yelp
I am 100% Italian born and raised, and the food is absolutely exceptional and authentic. Closest thing to my mother's cooking I've ever had, and I highly recommend it!

Erika R.

Yelp
Mmmmm so delicious! I recommend making reservations for SURE. We tried to get in at 5:45 on a Saturday, but they didn't have an opening until 7, so we went down the street for a drink while we waited. I got the raviolis- it was crazy good!!!! Prices are just right, and the service was amazing. It's a semi-formal kind of place. I love that they have a little market so you can take some stuff home! We will certainly be back!

Annette S.

Yelp
Haven't been to Gaudino's for a while. Went with family members. Very disappointed. Prices have gone way up. I know all restaurants have raised their prices. However their prices were ridicules for what you get. Had to pay extra for pasta with the dinner. Salad was just lettuce and dressing. The server had an attitude. Did not even want to leave her a tip. Won't be back. Rather go to Salvatore Scallopini. The food is much better.

Irwin F.

Yelp
I had their Italian Panini/Sub and it was better than Ventimiglia's which is known and popular. The sub roll had a nice crunch to it and the dressing was a solid match. The staff/customer service was great and the other foods look good. I will be back to try more.

Sarah J.

Yelp
Always have had a great in-person dining experience. They have a deli and bakery right in the middle of the restaurant, which is so fun to peruse before food arrives, and they also sell items such as sausage and fresh bread. Their menu is on-trend and always delicious. They have an abbreviated menu for carry-out, which is still delicious and suitable for everyone. We got the calamari appetizer, margarita pizza, and tortellini bianca tonight and it didn't disappoint. Very flavorful and my tortellini was filling. Looking forward to hopefully going back to in-person dining soon!

Sue C.

Yelp
I called for a pick up order. I ordered what I always order. A skinny Italian shirt b, it always came with turkey, cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato. I got home after picking it up and it had turkey and salami on it. called the restaurant to let them know my order was wrong. The girl put me on the phone with the general manager. I explained what happened and he told me I was wrong, that's how they make it. i explained I had ordered this sub 10 to 15 times and it was just turkey and cheese and asked if they had changed the menu. He said no it's always been that way. I said that's not true, I've ordered it like ten times. He then said you just told me 15 times, which is it? Are you lying? He was rude and condending

Jennifer C.

Yelp
This place is a GEM! So so many things to choose from. Carry out from the deli, have a beer or glass of wine at the counter or pasta bolognese to go! You can sit inside, or outside in the right weather. Subs, pizza, olives, desserts, pasta.. shop for pasta, Italian breadsticks, desserts! We will be back!

Dee K.

Yelp
Update. Last night came in on whim. Good choice. The orrichetta with short rib was great. Veal with lemon was lovely as well. Cannoli and tiramisu in-house with salted caramel gelato...Devine! Small salad was fresh and tasty as was the bread and Coppala merlot. Too noisy though. I wish they would cater to adults better. If you have a separate area that already has adult couples seated, don't add large families to this compact area please.

Mike S.

Yelp
Delicious food and good service. My only gripe is that after over $150 dollars for dinner for 2 I was still hungry.

Vladimir S.

Yelp
All around pretty decent and fresh food. No complaints with the hygiene or presentation, but the wait times and the staff's attitude is a bit lackluster , I also did a bunch of refurbishment work to the restaraunt and never once did they offer me a snack or even a glass of water. Which I found to be highly rude.

Alyssa H.

Yelp
Beautiful, clean, new restaurant ! Stepping inside I forgot I'm in my neighborhood , felt like I was in a different trendy city or vacation. This I did like I wouldn't come back for the Food though. The caprese had barely any pesto on it - although the waitress had no problem promptly bringing me another side . The presentation was beautiful . I don't like gnocchi so I was able to substitute the spinach and cheese ravioli (was here for lunch) in the primavera sauce. The sauce tasted like Campbells tomato soup I was hoping for more of a seasoned flavor with garlic The iced Americana with Carmel shot was delicious . My server was a doll, made for a pleasant experience There was no wait - I sat on the screened in patio I think if they used the feedback and tweaked the food the restraint has potential because the concept of market with a dining experience is something you don't get to experience much. The food just needs more flavor !! I don't see anything wrong with the portions I had leftovers to take home . After tipping my lunch was $35 for just myself and I didn't love any of the dishes .

Alexis I.

Yelp
It's all about the sandwiches! The mortadella and the prosciutto sandwich are both fantastic. I'm Italian and rarely like red sauce from a restaurant but the pomodoro sauce was solid!

Ed B.

Yelp
Looking for AMAZING subs and homemade Italian food items? (they have a market as well) Search no more! The sandwiches are first class! Worth the drive if you are in the vicinity! You WILL NOT be disappointed. Sal is a master sandwich maker! Best in the area - by far!

Aimee T.

Yelp
One of my favorite Italian restaurants on the East side. I literally dream about their Porcellino dish. It's a beautiful blend of their home made sausage, Arugula, Cream, Tomatoes, tossed with Rigatoni. I always start with the Rustica salad, which includes, Mixed Greens, Soppressata, Red Onion, Artichokes, Gorganzola, Olives tossed in Balsamic Vinaigrette. During the shutdown, they've added family dinners to feed four. Great food, excellent value, awesome people.

Patches O.

Yelp
Love the look of the building inside as well as the outside. Really nice crisp clean lines with beautiful decorations. Deli is really nice, a bit expensive. With Nino Salvaggio right across the street I know where I am going. The ravioli was really well done. Spinach was prepared well and the cheeses used in and on top of the ravioli were really good. The appetizer of bread and olive was good, better if the bread would have been warm and the olive oil Greek (just my preference). I enjoyed next time I want real Italian food in the area I know where to go.
