Chicago's Most Exciting Fall Openings - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Judging by the number of French restaurants that keep opening in this city, Chicagoans love pretending they’re in Paris. Soon, they’ll have a new place to wear berets and discuss Les Misérables en français thanks to Gavroche, opening in Old Town." - veda kilaru

A surprisingly great experience! It may look and sound like a typical tourist spot, but it’s absolutely worth your time. If you’re not local, this is a solid choice with excellent value for money. The food was very good—yes, the menu is tourist-friendly, but in a way that makes you feel comfortable and welcomed. Service was exceptional: friendly, fluent in English, and genuinely happy to have us there (not always a given in Paris!). Highly recommended for a relaxed and enjoyable dinner.

Food was amazing. We were happy to be seated quickly without A reservation! 3 steaks and sauce were perfect. Best meal in Paris thus far. Highly recommend!

This place was amazing. Mathis served us and was so nice and helpful. The soup was fantastic. Great place, great atmosphere-not touristy at all and not too busy.

I had a lovely lunch at Gavroche. The escargot was delicious and I wanted more! It truly was the best I've ever eaten, a very delicate preparation. I also had the burrata des fruites salad and it was lovely. I wish I could have tried everything on the menu! Out of many restaurants to choose from, we just happened to decide on this one. It wasn't crowded at that time of day (about 1:30 pm I think). It turned out to be a great choice!

It was such a lovely experience having a lunch date with my husband. We enjoyed a delicious tomahawk steak, a juicy burger, and a delightful dessert to finish off the meal and even the wines.. Everything we ordered exceeded our expectations, and we left feeling completely satisfied and happy.

The food is absolutely magnificent 👌🏻 — I was happy to have the beef marrow (amazing!), the onion soup, and those Crêpes Suzette. And a huge thank you for the locally made cognac! Highly recommend♥️

Arrived without reservation, but it was around 4pm, so there were spaces available. We only ordered the French onion soup as we had dinner plans elsewhere. It was the best onion soup that we had in Paris. Just want to mention that the soup is watery in case you were expecting a more creamy texture.

The Good. Wonderful location, quaint and near the cobblestone road to sit and people watch. The service was kind and acceptable. The Bad. Everything else. I rarely leave poor reviews unless it really warrants it. This one unfortunately really warrants it and we left very disappointed. All of us ordered a cut of beef from the menu. All of us ordered medium rare. The beef was watery, and rare. Little to no seasoning and was completely inedible. No amount of chewing would engage the swallowing reflex and everyone left 1/2 to 3/4 of the beef on the plate. The potatoes, while flavourful were reheated. The salad dressing was the only “saviour” on the side salad. As a Canadian eating beef in France for the first time perhaps my expectations were set higher or I’m not familiar with how the majority of French like their beef. But I’m well versed in cooked meat. The food all came out way too fast for a proper medium rare plus resting. I would not recommend this establishment. It’s a shame because the ambience was lovely. Tres disappointed.
