Chicago's Most Exciting Fall Openings - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Judging by the number of French restaurants that keep opening in this city, Chicagoans love pretending they’re in Paris. Soon, they’ll have a new place to wear berets and discuss Les Misérables en français thanks to Gavroche, opening in Old Town." - veda kilaru

The Good. Wonderful location, quaint and near the cobblestone road to sit and people watch. The service was kind and acceptable. The Bad. Everything else. I rarely leave poor reviews unless it really warrants it. This one unfortunately really warrants it and we left very disappointed. All of us ordered a cut of beef from the menu. All of us ordered medium rare. The beef was watery, and rare. Little to no seasoning and was completely inedible. No amount of chewing would engage the swallowing reflex and everyone left 1/2 to 3/4 of the beef on the plate. The potatoes, while flavourful were reheated. The salad dressing was the only “saviour” on the side salad. As a Canadian eating beef in France for the first time perhaps my expectations were set higher or I’m not familiar with how the majority of French like their beef. But I’m well versed in cooked meat. The food all came out way too fast for a proper medium rare plus resting. I would not recommend this establishment. It’s a shame because the ambience was lovely. Tres disappointed.

We tried four different dishes and we were all pleased with our choices. I was their first guest to try a new burger with BBQ and bacon and sweet potato fries. It was really good with good quality bacon and a burger I could choose the frying temperature of the beef burger. Try this place! It took some time to get the food but the waiting was worth it! Well made food with rich flavours.

Came here because of the positive reviews and here's me giving credit where it's due. Super friendly and welcoming service. Food was really nice. I had the burger with sweet potato fries and my partner had the salmon with mash. Both tasted great and was reasonably priced. We also had a nice view of the town. Our waiter treated us well and I hope he makes it out to London one day 👍

If you like french food with a twist on some dishes, great service and in a beautiful setting, then you have to go to Gavroche. The owner Victor greeted us, sat us down and served us for the evening, It's rare finding an owner who cares so much about their restaurant and the food they serve. My husband isn't a big fan of snails, but the way Victor and his staff made them, he was changed! Everything we ordered was fresh and made with care and experience. The waiting staff were polite and helpful too. Meal: Buratina fruits acidules, Escargots "nus", Saumon mi-cuit, Piece Du boucher and profiteroles. Parisis beer was great, and I had a St Germain spritz. Thank you Victor and your team, we hope to see you soon :)

I totally loved this place! The spot is incredible, you can sit and eat looking at the overview from Montmartre. The waitress who served us was very kind, always with a smile on her face! The food was exceptional, especially the salmon tartare and the French fries.

It was a festive dinner. I loved the onion soup, it was very tasty. The home made baguette came warm and tender. The waitresses are very friendly and smiley like „gavroche“… Very nice concept, delicious food and pleasant atmosphere.

Very conveniently located next to Sacre Couer. We booked a table for lunch, and everything was delicious. The owner was very attentive and went out of his way to make us comfortable. I highly recommend the eggs mimosa, which does not jump off the menu as the most exciting dish, but I thought it was superb.

The service was great, but the food was sub par and I was very disappointed. Very expensive for something I could have got in a bar in the 10th. I’m very sorry to say. The Onion soup was bland and the eggs were overly salty. So much so that I had a hard time eating them. The Croque Monsieur was basic and I regretted ordering it after I had the first bite. Our server was lovely and we enjoyed the atmosphere and view from sitting outside. A beautiful restaurant but the food is lackluster. Very disappointing as I had read the reviews thoroughly and was really looking forward to eating here.
