Gay Nineties Pizza Co

I’ve always seen this place on my visits to Pleasanton and decided today was the day. It was solid—great value for the money. The pizza dough was thick and had the right blend of salt. Lunch comes with a decent house salad. I had the pesto pizza with sausage, bell pepper, and onion, and I would easily have it again when in the area. The service was sweet. Talk about friendly people who sincerely want to help you. Love the energy. Note picture of pizza was of a friend and this is a small.

Our family got together at Gay Nineties on a Tuesday night. My dad grew up in the area and has always loved this place, and since we don’t get together often, the evening already felt special. Shortly after we arrived, the restaurant filled up quickly, but our waiter, Kevin, was absolutely phenomenal. Despite the rush, Kevin brought such positive energy to the table. He kindly explained the situation, checked in with us often, and made sure we were comfortable while the kitchen caught up. He went above and beyond for us, and we’re incredibly grateful for the exceptional service he provided. His kindness, attentiveness, and calm professionalism truly stood out. The staff overall was also wonderfully accommodating. My brother and his wife have a newborn, and they generously set us up on the patio with a heater so the baby could stay comfortable. The pizza was great, too. Five stars for Kevin, the staff, and the food!

We’ve been coming to this restaurant many times over the years although it has probably been about 5 years since our last visit. We had a fantastic server today who really took good care of us. Her name was Julie. She was great. Our pizza was a medium 1/2 Veggie and 1/2 Hawaiian. The crust was cooked to perfection but we thought overall the pizza was lacking real flavor. Maybe our taste has changed over the years since we have are big fans of Tony’s in SF (or his newer Slice House Establishments) or Gold Dust Pizza in Ripon. I still think this place is a nice restaurant if you are looking for a well made pizza and you’re in the Downtown Pleasanton area. We will go back if we are in the area and want pizza.

We always love getting a pizza and a salad here 😋 We tried the garlic bread, wasn't really garlicky but still good. The Franks pizza has meat and veggies and always one that makes us both happy to eat

My friend took me here for a late lunch and boy was it a treat! The wine was fabulous but the pizza, salad and garlic bread were TO DIE FOR! You could taste the perfected homemade recipe in every bite. Yum! Being a Texas implant I will recommend this place over and over again. Conner greeted us and Garrett was our amazing server. Go see them!

The place was half full and staff was running around crazy. It took 45min to get two pizza’s to go. If you like Italian pizza, this place is not for you. It has heavy bread dough. Toppings are good and fresh. But pizza dough has no taste, you can’t even taste salt in it. Wanted to try something else but we are not coming back and sticking with Mike’s.

First of all, the service here is always amazing. We had a server today, don't catch her name but she was super nice and made dining in even better. Best pizza I've ever had! Other pizza places I've been to never fill me up but with just 2 slices here I'm satisfied! You never have to worry about not getting enough cheese on your pizza and the taste is super good! They also have delicious ranch! I'll be going here for pizza often! Tried their boneless wings too and were also great!

We ordered BBQ chicken pizza and it was amazing . If you are Beer lover then try 805 . It’s really amazing . In the appetizer, I ordered boneless chicken wings. It was average

I took a bite and went, "wow". Let's just say I was impressed by this place. I brought some friends from out of town here on a Monday night. There were plenty of seats and the wait for the pizza wasn't noticeably long. Being the typical nice summer/autumn Pleasanton weather it was, we sat outside and got to admire the outside art. We ordered one of the pesto pizzas and a red sauce (I'm sorry I can't remember the name). Either way, the cheese was perfect. You know when you pull the slice away from the main circle and it's holding on like a clingy ex? It's like that but simply stretches and doesn't take the rest of the toppings along with a piece of your innocence with it. Anyway, amazing flavor, amazing cheese, amazing name; I will be returning.

Everyone I know has been raving about this place, so we finally caved and tried it... and honestly, I don't get the hype at all. The crust was super bland, like absolutely no flavor going on, and the toppings? Still basically raw. I shouldn't need to finish cooking my pizza at home. I love supporting local spots, but this one was a miss for us. Big pass.

We are looking for our go to local pizza place since moving to Pleasanton. This might be the spot! The pasta is mid, but the pizza is pretty tasty. I am prety sure some of the flavor is from the building being a million years old, it just leaks history! iF ANYONE HAS ANY LOCAL SPOTS THEY RECCOMEND, PLEASE DM ME

Date with the Mr. after a drs appointment. We wanted patxi but they're now closed. This was what I really wanted. Started with the cheese curds, crispy on the outside, melted gooey cheese on the inside, comes with ranch and marinara sauce. Button mushrooms cooked in butter, wine and garlic. The wine was a bit heavy but still very enjoyable. The PIZZA!!! My fave part of the meal. I'm a combo kind of girl, so I gotta have everything on my pizza. Every piece of meat and veggie stood alone in flavor. It didn't feel like mush. I was able to taste the sausage seasonings while getting the crunch of the bell peppers. Our waitress was super nice and kept our drinks filled consistently. Can't wait to go back!

I've always heard of Gay Nineties growing up and finally ordered takeout with some friends. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. The pizza was ultra bland, toppings just slid off, and the bottom was soft and soggy. The crust was decent, but not good enough to save the rest. Not a fan.

Best pizza ever! My family and I have been coming here since they opened many years ago. This is a p-town classic. Our server Kevin , & all the staff were super friendly and accommodating. Their sourdough crust is next level delicious. Nothing like a fun night chillin on the outdoor patio. (Indoors is awesome as well. Dark and old school classic vibe. Can't beat it. They also have a full bar now! You can't go wrong with any specialty pizza on the menu, and don't forget a side salad!! Their blue cheese is my favorite in the world. One of the managers makes a mean hot sauce that you can purchase. It's sooooo good.

There's tons of seating which is nice, They can accommodate small or large groups and I imagine they're a big hit with kids sports team based on the environment and layout. Cute spot for a kids pizza party for sure. We got a Medium pizza with pineapple and linquica- tasty combo and classic pizza flavors, nothing surprising, good ratio of meat to sauce to toppings so solid 8/10 Sweet chili wings were fine 6/10 Fried zucchini was fine 6/10 I like the variety on the menu at places like this, and give me a tall cold beer anywhere and I'm pretty happy.

Come here with my office colleagues almost once a month . Great service , super cute decor and fantastic food . We love to sit on their patio and enjoy their quiet location. I always get their soup and salad . Great minestrone . Huge chunks of fresh veggies and their house salad is delicious. Great price too. Comes with garlic bread . Couldn't say enough about their service either, adorable server , who gives us space but always is checking in on us. Love this restaurant !

Great food! There is something everyone. I love fresh pizza right out of the oven. The Cajun pasta is the best. They are great with family's with small kids.

One of our favorite go too spots for pizza when in town. We enjoy sitting outside on the patio in the summer and inside the cozy atmosphere during winter. Our service is always great! We will be back soon for another date night.

The food is so good, the pizza is absolutely scrumptious. The crust is so thick and toppings are loaded on. It is extremely filling, so you can easily share a medium. The service is fast and the waiters are happy to answer any questions. It is super cute inside, and wasn't too busy.

The crust is delicious and I am normally not a fan of pizza crust. I am a huge fan of this pizza and come from another city to eat here. Highly recommend.

Gay Ninetie's, an Italian/pizza joint steeped in history, offers both indoor and outdoor seating options. However, despite its nostalgic charm and dim ambiance, I was not a fan of their service. The pizza took an unusually long time to arrive, and the pricing felt steep for the quality provided. Hot chocolate was so-so. I only ordered just to have something during this waiting period. Even after requesting a thin crust pizza, I was served a regular crust pizza. The cheesy garlic bread sticks were just stale bread topped with a layer of mozzarella cheese sprinkled with garlic powder. I'm thinking if this is even a crime for letting this slide?! Even after second chances, my expectations were still not met despite trying Wayne's World and Frank's Special. Their pizza was a bit undercooked and too crust heavy for me. I think Zachary's, across the street, has a more inviting atmosphere and probably is worth checking out.

We ordered the Conner's special without garlic, on thin crust, and a side of ranch, for dinner this past Sunday. The restaurant was quirky and had a lot of character, as well as plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. However, we ordered for takeout, and the wait for our pizza was 30 minutes. Staff was patient and prompt in helping us. The pizza was really tasty, the pesto sauce was just a thin layer, but there was ample cheese and toppings, and all of the ingredients added so much flavor, those jalapenos were especially spicy. Went well with the cool ranch I got on the side, I'm a fan of the ranch sauce they serve here (it's definitely not hidden valley, thank goodness). I'm glad we got thin crust cuz that was already a lot of carbs for me, and it tasted good as well, even if on the plain side.

First visit there. Good pizza, great ambience, mediocre service. Will try one more time.

This is our to go to when it comes to pizza and pasta..servers here are always nice and attentive, foods that we've ordered really didn't disappoint us always.. Each time that we come here in downtown Pleasanton we make sure to come over here coz we love their appetizers specially the cheese curds that I forgot to take a picture coz we're so hungry. Love the vintage decorations and take note the restroom is clean ..here I go again always checking the restroom if it is clean.. Coz I do believe clean restroom so the kitchen is clean also.. Love coming back here with the whole fam bam..

This place was always one of my favorites. The pizza is excellent, thick crust, fresh toppings, and full of flavor. But what really makes it stand out is the vibe inside. The atmosphere is just cool, from the design to the energy of the place. It's the kind of spot where you want to hang out as much as you want to eat. Great food, great feel, definitely worth coming back

My siblings and I came here our monthly Sibling Date. My brothers girlfriend and her siblings came along as well (making us a group of 9 altogether). We came in and was able to seat ourselves. We ordered 3 pizzas the one I had was the Franks pizza (pizza is like your ordinary pizza, I wish I would've ordered the thin crust though). We ask order the Buffalo wings and Green Gas Wings. The name Green Gas was a bit interesting so we decided to give it a go. Not too spicy if you like spice but overall okay flavor. We preferred the buffalo wings over the Green gas wings. We also tried the cheese garlic curds. Very good flavor, just wish the temperature was a little hotter. My sister got the spaghetti and said it wasn't anything special and I tried the garlic bread it came with. The texture of the garlic on the bread didn't really sit right with me (not sure how to explain it). Other than that the cheese pull on all the pizzas was awesome. I wish I could give half a star more but unfortunately that's not how yelp works. All in all if you come here. Try the garlic cheese curds at least!

It was really good, my family and I ordered some wings and a pizza. The wings came out perfect they were so crispy and the sauce was nicely distributed. The buffalo sauce was tangy and but not spicy make it compliment the chicken. Now for the pizza, when you get your pizza you should know that your cheese will be extremely melted and that's not a bad thing. Somethings that I loved was how thick the pepperoni slices were and how there tomato sauce is so good a tier ran down my left led.... Their service is good the waitress was really nice and not scared to check up on us. I also appreciate how fast the food comes out, you order and the next thing you know you have a pizza fresh out the what ever they cook it in. So that is why I give them a 5 star review and if I ever come to San Francisco I will definitely come here again.

A Recipe for Invisibility: The Gay 90s Experience We arrived walked passed the crowded patio, me and my family--looking forward to dinner at a spot I'd been to before with other company, where I'd always been greeted warmly, seated right away, and treated with ease. But this time was different. We stood at the entrance with no greeting. No acknowledgment. As we waited, guests who came in after us were promptly welcomed and shown to their tables outside on the patio without hesitation. We watched it happen in real time. Eventually, someone motioned for us to sit ourselves. And once we did, we waited another fifteen minutes without a single word. No menus. No water. Not even a glance from the staff. The dining room was nearly empty, just one other table occupied, yet somehow--somehow--we were invisible. I watched as a younger server spoke to a blonde woman across the room. She subtly leaned around the corner, eyes finding our table, then disappeared. Neither returned. Instead, they floated out to the patio, where the crowd looked a little more... familiar to them. By the 20-minute mark, I had seen enough. I asked my family if they were picking up the same thing I was. They all nodded. So we left. And only then, as we reached the door, did the bartender who hadn't so much as glanced at us suddenly perk up: "Have a good day, you guys!" Right. That part still worked, apparently. We ended up grabbing dinner elsewhere, where the welcome was instant and the food was secondary to being seen. That night, Gay 90s served us nothing but a slow, bitter reminder: Some tables get service. Others get studied glances and delayed smiles. And it usually depends on who you're sitting with.

The atmosphere gives an old school pizza parlor in the 90's vibe. It's a bit dark and not a ton of seating, but good for smaller groups. Their Hawaiian pizza was not lacking toppings or cheese. It was so yummy & that crust was real soft & thick! The staff was very kind and attentive. They weren't too busy when I went, but they were super quick! I will definitely be back when in the area.

Gay 90s is the best place to bring your family if you wanna have a good time and have some tasty food. The atmosphere is wonderful. The people are amazing. And the food is delicious... And they have an internship program lol JK.

If you are looking for delicious hearty pizza that is heavy with fresh ingredients order Franks special from this spot. I'd stay away from the veggie one because it is soggy, maybe have it extra toasted. Staff is very friendly and the place is nice and cool in the summer. They also make their own ranch which is a plus. 10/10 would come again with family and friends.

First time visitor. I was not impressed, and very disappointed with this establishment. 1. Most concerning, there was a tiny rock in my pizza. I took a bite of my slice and was shocked to find a piece of rock. 2. I only ordered 3 items, and yet they got my order wrong. 3. When they handed me my change, instead of a quarter, I was given an Indian rupee. I didn't notice this until I got home.

I love the ambiance that reminds me of dating my husband in the 1990s. Comforting American foods like pizza, garlic bread, and variety of salads. Cute 90s decor. After a tiring work week my family likes to relax here.

Service was horrible. We got sat and took 20mins before the server acknowledged our party(7). After that another party came in same size as ours and took that server 1min to help them. So I ask why did it take our party to be 20mins to even be acknowledged? We went there to celebrate our father's birthday. He wanted us to try this place because he use to work there back in the 90s. Pizza was ok. I got the fried chicken pasta. I assume it would be a fried chicken breast on top of the pasta. It wasn't. It was fried chicken thighs and a fried drumstick. And the pasta on the side. Wasn't what I expected. My dad complained to the person at the register and he told my dad he would let the manager know. And I hope he does.

Located in downtown Pleasanton. Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Our preteen girlscouts had just did the escape room a block away so we walked over to eat lunch. Not many people inside since it was about 1:45 pm. Ordered 2 pizzas, some cheese sticks and bunch of drinks. Pizza was ok, lots of indoor seating & out door seating.

Gay Nineties is the greatest. I don't know what kinda cheese they use but they have something special there. Food- excellent Vibe- unbeatable Service- fantastic What's not to like? They have history, vibe, and great food. Highly recommend a visit.

Always enjoy eating Gay Nineties Pizza. Nothing fancy but their pizza always hits the spot. I especially like the the crust which is perfect for dipping olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

After walking around the Alameda fair grounds, Gay Ninties hit the spot. This place is very close by and has ample seating inside and out. There is entertaining decor all around. The people are easy going and very prompt at helping you out. We got the Connors special with some ranch. I'm pretty sure it's like hidden valley but better. The pizza was very tasty and perfect for a Sunday movie.

This is a cool place, foods not bad but not great. The meat lovers was packed with lots of meat and cheese but the dough was a little undercooked for my liking. Two slices at most is all you need because it's super thick dough and just heavy. Service was good, very much a pub vibe. When the service walks up there's nothing fancy just a simple, hey what can I get going for you. But the service fits the whole 90's thing and fits the atmosphere of the place. Overall, if I'm in the area I'll probably try some of the other pizza spots to see what else is in the area. But I'll for sure give this place another run. It fit the bill for our night out and I liked the old school feel.

Horrible experience!! Waiter was extreme indifferent and had no good customer service. I came with a group of friends (we are teenagers) and we were extremely nice, yet it took our food 1 hour to come out in a practically empty restaurant. While the atmosphere is nice, one pizza and one pasta should not take that long in an empty restaurant. I am extremely disappointed in this place's treatment of teens. We even asked the waiter how much longer and he said 5 minutes and we countinued to wait another 30 minutes.

Never come to this place, the service here is very bad and horrible. It took them at least 40 minutes to give us the food we had ordered almost an hour ago. And the restaurant was empty there should be no reason a slice of pizza should take this long and we are teenagers starving after conditioning practice this is not OK especially for the prices they have and all we ordered is a pizza and a pasta Plus adding on the pizza was raw and undercooked. including that they had a haunted bathroom. WORST. PLACE. EVER.

Just had a five star pizza and beer experience here sitting at the bar; my preferred seating location. The small thick crust pizza I ordered was great, with an entire half to take home for a second meal; maybe more. The service was attentive and polite. Draft Beer selection was very good. Love the quirky, eclectic decorations throughout the entire place. Didn't have any, but I noticed they had a pretty good wine selection as well. I will definitely be revisiting this place for more pizza and other menu items which I am anxious to try!!

We love coming here considering we live close enough in the Fremont area. Food is delicious but service has gotten worse and worse each time. Came here in February for my birthday and the service was horrid, we brought up the issues with a manager and he sent the server back to our table to apologize yet he said things like "you didn't say no ice" even though our entire table vividly remembers me ordering a Pepsi no ice and "you didn't say that" about something else that occurred, can't recall what but I just remember he kept using "you" statements and did not take accountability. Went again today and it was dead for a Sunday afternoon. One, their fryer was broken, so no apps other than garlic cheese bread. Ordered all our food at 2:30 including eggplant parm and got everything around 35-45 mins later except for the eggplant parm. Server (receipt said Harris??) checked on us and my sister asked for an update on the eggplant parm and she said she'd check. Came back a few mins later and she said it'll be a few more mins. The point is we ordered it an hour ago, never got it. I went to the register and asked for a manager and "not in yet" at 3:30. I was told it was made as a pasta instead of a sandwich (didn't know it could be made as such) and I had to double check if we ordered sandwich or pasta although I assumed sandwich and I was mistaken. So I went back to the register and stopped them from making it as a sandwich not a minute later and server said "oh so you don't want the sandwich?" I said, no we wanted as a pasta and I was here a minute ago saying it's a sandwich and I'm trying to correct that. The issue is we never got it in either form and we ordered an hour ago. She said "there was an error with the ticketing system and it never made it back" which idk what the issue really was, she forgot either way because if it was made as a pasta, it had just been sitting there? Mind you it was warm outside and we were hungry. Anyways, think we'll be taking a break coming here for a while.

Uh-oh...I hate when I forget a name - Judy or Julie greeted me with an amazing Smile and informed me of all the delicious foods. I ended up adding a Linguine with clam sauce because she guaranteed it would be not only delicious but also quick! She is AMAZING! I am definitely coming back to try out their salads.

Absolutely amazing service from the moment we walked in. Great recommendations on food and beer, and tons of patience when it came to my daughter's request. We asked if they had a kid's fettuccine/pesto and Garret immediately offered to make it work. Super accommodating without hesitation, which made my daughter extremely happy because it meant she didn't have to share a meal with one of us Garret and Conner were both welcoming, friendly, funny, and perfectly attentive. They made sure we had a great time and felt like long time friends. We also got a cool little history lesson when I inquired about the name of the restaurant! We had only been here once before and were impressed that time as well, but with this experience, we were thoroughly blown away with the customer service. These guys are amazing. Great food, great service, and fun place all around!

Fire. Moved here from SF looking for a local pizza spot and this place fit the bill. Service was great, with a smile. So polite. The vibe was just old school pizza parlor.

I love the pizza at Gay Nineties, in fact in might be the best pizza in Pleasanton. It is very fresh and uses quality ingredients. There is no doubt in my mind that the dough is freshly made. Truly, there is not other place like it. My family and I have been coming here for a while, both dining in and take out. Unfortunately, I have recently been very disappointed in the service here. There seams to be many workers, however, they can't seam to manage all of the tables correctly. This is a huge downfall to the experience here. Today, I came in to pick up a pizza that my family had called in. They were very busy, so I waited in the lobby as instructed through a sign. After a couple of minutes a big line grew behind me. By the time an employee came back to the front, I was completely ignored, even though I had been standing there the longest. I found this to be very rude, considering I was simply waiting to pick up my order and pay. Overall, you may be receiving great pizza here, but that may come with no quality of service. I think Gay Nineties has a lot of potential, however, it is currently a small restaurant with a great outdoor dining area. The indoor eating area is very congested, so I would recommend eating outside. A great place to try if you have the patience to endure a questionable pizza experience.

What a place! Some excellent pizza here. Fried zucchini's were bomb too! The pizza while it was a littleeeee pricey, didn't disappoint. The crust has a perfect texture with the right crunch as you take a bite. The pizza was nice too, we ordered salami, pepperoni and jalapeños (judge me haters). The pizza overall was very enjoyable and there was a solid portion size. The fried Zucchinis took me by surprise of how great they were as well. Ate them up reels quick. I think my favorite thing about the place was the ranch though. Perfect thickness, perfect flavor, and they gave us a ton of it. Almost asked our waitress to bring out some Ranch shots for us! Our waitress was nice and she left us to eat on the beautiful backyard area and it was a very pleasant experience overall.

Gay Nineties is about so much more than the pizza! Let me list 9 reasons: (1) the history - it's a local institution that has been serving our fair town since the 1950s. The name refers not to the 1990s, but is an American nostalgic term referring to the prosperous decade of the 1890s. (2) the ghosts - it is a prominent stop on the downtown Pleasanton Halloween walk. (3) the outdoor patio - we love sitting here, and it's been a God-send during Covid. (4) the service - prompt, friendly and old school. On our last visit, the waitress climbed onto a chair to get our space heater going! (5) the drinks - and I don't just mean their excellent list of beer and other alcoholic beverages. They serve a mean cappuccino and superb hot chocolate, perfect for those cool California evenings! (6) the décor - everywhere one looks, there are interesting and unique touches. No drab murals, furnishings or wall hangings here! (7) the churro basket - this is worth coming for on its own! Twenty (at least) piping hot churros (they are closer to beignets IMO) dusted with powdered sugar, served with the sweetest thickest honey you can imagine! A steal at $6.95. (8) the Kid's menu - I kid you not. Such as pan-sized 8" cheese pizzas, at the very reasonable price of $8.95, for that unreasonable child who loves to eat pizza but doesn't want any toppings! (9) the pizza - of course! Try it and you'll come back for sure. During our last visit, we ordered the Frank's Special ($35 for a 16" nowadays) - it was perfectly baked, delicious, filling and piping hot - as a good pizza pie should be! I heart you Gay Nineties! Can't wait to come back!!

I like this restaurant's pizza and fried chicken. The pizza tasted a little worse than before, but the chicken was still delicious! And they kindly changed the wrongly ordered menu and the service was good.

This place was great for a Friday night in downtown. We ordered a small pepperoni pizza. There was 3 of us and the amount was enough for us to feel full. I really like thick, fluffy crust so that was a plus for me! The service was great for busy Friday night!! I loved that there was a lot to look at inside and the dim lighting was perfect.

Classic pizza. Gay nineties has been around for a long time for a good reason, they have good food and good service. The regular pizza has puffy crust. My husband says it is "most excellent". There is lots of cheese and other toppings. They have gluten free crust available. It is best right out of the oven. The cheese is good when hot. Once it cools the crust gets tough. However microwaved the next day it is just as tasty.
